I grew up in the 80's-90's loving the original Pete's on Western. Sadly they sold and around the same time we ended up moving out to Park Ridge (yes we were that heartbroken) We found Pete's 2 and were thrilled it was so close!! Every so often we would order and they would deliver (only 3.4 miles away). One day maybe a change in management or they just shortened their delivery zone they no longer would deliver to us. Fast forward 12yrs to tonight since the last time I ate here....it was like being transported back my childhood. When they handed me the pizza it smelled EXACTLY the same...I got home (12 min drive in the snow) and it tasted EXACTLY the same!! I'm kinda on the fence with this place: 1) The staff was really, really nice. 2) I did try a bite of my friend's pizza and it was SUPERB. 3) My eggplant parmesan was kinda "meh". It was too mushy. It was like having eggplant parm soup. Also, I was served soup as an appetizer and it's rare I have to salt something because I usually think everything is fine "as is" or even too salty. The broccoli cheese soup just seemed to lack any flavor. 4) The place has a cute charming, kinda dive bar / basement feel to it. So it's kinda retro and old school, but that is part of its appeal. It's a total neighborhood joint. So, that said, this place for me (as of right now) is OK. I would say if you based the rating strictly on the pizza, it would be a 4. I'm a little biased because i grew up eating this pizza but it's great. I always end up coming back to petes. Everytime i get another pizza i just end up comparing it to petes. It has this part right in between where the cheese stops and the crusts starts that is delicious. The tomatoes carmelize and has this kind of sweet taste. The pepperoni gets a little greasy in a good way. If you dont want grease why are you looking at a review for a pizza place. Exellent. You gotta try it. read more

My BF was born and raised in the Chi and grew up on this pizza. He claimed it was the best, so to Pete's I went. First of all, I love the ambiance because it feels like I step into 1985 when I walk in...dark paneling, mirrored walls...you know the scenario. The booths are cozy, the waitstaff is as old school as it gets, and they're super nice. Oh yeah, and they serve RC, which is the best. (I love the RC logo) On to the food: -they serve a loaf of Italian / French bread to start, and they have a really good olive oil on the table. I know, all Italian places have olive oil, but theirs is really fresh and clean tasting. -the Pete's salad with Italian dressing is so good....romaine & iceberg with olives, mozzarella, pepperoni, salami, tomatoes, onions, etc. Don't be afraid to use a chunk of bread as an edible utensil. It's awesome. -And now, the pizza--medium thin crust with sausage and cheese. Greasy, yes, but it was delicious. The crust is thin and perfectly crispy all around. The sauce is not too sweet. The sausage is one of the best I've ever head. They cook the pizza to a golden brown, and it's just heaven. This joint makes me nostalgic, fills my belly, and makes me happy. Go Pete's! Oh yeah, there is a Pete's on Western Ave. across from Lane Tech, which had something to do with the original owners, but I'm telling you, the pizza is not as good. Ordered three 18 inch pizza for a table of 16 people and the pizza was fantastic, however our server was a complete bitch. She was a short older woman with gray hair who didn't want to be bothered with our table. Extremely rude and didn't care!! Never asked if we wanted more bread/butter or came back to check on our drinks. We had to flag her down for anything we needed. We all loved the pizza but management needs to keep their help in check if they want repeat business. read more

Street parking only, but that's ok, it worked out just fine. The place is small. they keep the ac on full blast and we froze our butts off. ( took off one star cause they wouldn't turn the air down ) We ordered a thin Cheese and Sausage and 1/4 of it mushroom for me. The Pizza was really Delicious. My son has ordered their wings, very good as well. Now I just call and order for pick up, the place is too small for my large family and they keep it too cold in there for our liking. I was pleased with Pete's pizza. I ordered a thin crust with sausage and anchovies. Even though the grease literally ran off the zza, the sauce, toppings, cheese and crust were pretty good. The best thing about it all was the taste. In most cases ordering a zza with anchovies will automatically turn your pie into a shallow puddle so I can abide. I'd be more than willing to try some other combinations as they have the biggest variety of toppings I've seen. This time I chose delivery and it was fast as others have mentioned. Pete's was also the one establishment that made a credit card transaction easy for delivery. I would recommend giving them a shot if your in the mood. read more

We recently had a dinner here for my daughter's 2nd birthday. Everything was wonderful. Everyone loved their food. Prices were great, including the alcohol. They went out of there way to provide great service to us. Melissa was our waitress and she was amazing. She constantly was checking on us and our table of 9 and was very attentive to the birthday girl. They held our cake for us and provided everything we needed for it, including packaging to take it home and shopping bags for our gifts. We never felt rushed to leave and were able to take our time celebrating. I was very impressed and would definitely recommend them for a party or just a family dinner. Extremely disappointed in our experience on Friday night. We've been going to Petes for years, but it seems when they expanded their space, the service really took a hit. This is a shame, because I really enjoy their food. First, we were seated and it took about 15 minutes for our waitress (I believe her name was sue) to even take our drink order. Then we watched as the bartender poured our drinks and they sat at the bar for over 5 minutes while our waitress seemed to have disappeared. The rest of the courses (the salad and the pizza and pasta) took at least twice as long as they should have to come out. Then, as the waitress was dropping off my moms spaghetti and meatballs, she proceeded to drop the entire hot plate all over my fathers lap, which instantly ruined our meal. The waitress made some sort of excuses about the plate being slippery and then continued to hide from our table the rest of the entire time we were there. The manager finally came over, and pretty much only gave us seltzer water and only comped the meatballs, which took a whooping $4 off our bill, and gave us some desserts, which we repeatedly told her we did not want. So we still ended up paying over $55 a meal that was completely ruined by poor service, and my dad left with a giant stain on his pants and shirt, which probably now has to get dry cleaned, and that means an extra cost for him. It honestly hurts me to say, but I don't think I can ever go back to Pete's. read more

I've been holding off writing this review for some time, but I feel that time is now. I live very close to this restaurant and my family has dined here many times since the remodel. My review will focus only on our dine-in experiences. To start positive, the decor is really nice. The remodeling created an excellent dining space to be proud of. The food is OK. It's good Italian family dining, and for the price I can't complain. Now for my rant. I don't think I've ever had such consistently poor service in my life. Every single time my wife and I dine there, even KNOWING we are going to get bad service, we are surprised at how the staff manages to disappoint. My favorite example was a trip last spring ( 2014 ). We came in and were seated at a table, the restaurant was mostly empty except for a table of 4 employees seated near the entrance. First off, this always seems to be the case and in my opinion doesn't set the right atmosphere. Why are there 4 uniformed employees sitting at one of the tables? Anyway, after we are seated, my wife and I sit for no less than 10 minutes without anyone coming over to our table. Meanwhile we are just looking at the table of employees wondering if one of them is supposed to serve us and just forgot? So I'm getting a bit upset/confused, and there is nobody in the place. I just raise my hand and stare at the table of employees. Eventually one of them notices me and stands up, he walks over to the door to back room and yells in there. He then walks back over to his table, gives me some sort of hand gesture to indicate somebody is coming, and then he sits back down at his table. Doesn't even come over to speak to me. After several more minutes a server finally appeared from the back room. Some variation of this is what you should expect from their service. There servers don't really seem to be top-notch to begin with, however I suspect that the management doesn't have very good systems in place for handling ordering, or who is waiting on what table. Another more recent incident included us getting the wrong pizza and the waitress asking us if we can just pick around the toppings we didn't want. I hate to write this review, because I really want my neighborhood businesses to succeed. That being said, if management doesn't really change things up, I can't imagine they are going to last a whole lot longer. To the Management: 1. Please please please stop having employees sit at a table in the dining room, especially right when you walk in. It doesn't seem very professional, and really adds to customer frustration when they aren't getting good service. 2. The wait staff seem to need better directions and systems to follow. They often disappear for long periods of time, seem confused, aren't sure which table what order is going to, get orders wrong etc. read more

I see the ticket and it's written correctly, which makes it worse in that it would appear the Kitchen can't be bothered to actually read the order or chooses to ignore it. OMG! If you can't handle hosting parties, then don't! I went to a family member's party here last night and could not believe how the staff treated the customers. First off, the food was not by any means anything to brag about. Pizza sauce had no flavor, cheese sticks were empty crust from being over cooked and their salad was warm. The servants were acting as though they were being asked to do things that were unacceptable, like serving their customers. I had to ask three times for ketchup and heard the table behind me have to ask several times for their drinks and napkins. Worst of all, it got to where the staff actually yelled at the kids at the top of their lungs. And at one point ripped a menu out of a child's hands. When this was brought to the very large manager, she gave some serious attitude and didn't seem to care at all. Will never ever return which is sad because I'm working at St Roberts Bellarmine right around the corner now and thought I found a good place for lunch for me and coworkers. Maybe our pizza might have been good had we received it within 30 minutes of it coming out of the oven. Instead our order arrived more than an hour after we placed it. As a result, we had cold pizza with solidified cheese that came off each slice with one bite. I live less than two and half miles from this place, so I'm unsure what the hold up was. We finally called after an hour went by, and we're given a simple explanation that the driver left a while ago....which only added to our annoyance. When the driver finally arrived, there was no apology or acknowledgement that he was uber late. Avoid this place unless you like cold pizza with weird flavored sauce.....Oh yeah, the wings were pretty awful too, but I doubt getting them hot would have helped. They were pretty much little pieces of fried chicken with no flavor. There's many other good places in the area, such as Due Amici, Al's and Frank's on Belmont. read more

Friday night. Dead as a doornail. That should have been a warning to me. But I'd driven up from the southwest side where there is a lot of bad pizza in hope of scoring a good old fashioned 1950's style pizza. The thin crust was thin but also the toughest crust I've EVER had on a pizza. Each ingedient had so much salt on its own that the combined salt level was crazy. The cheese and sausage was the lowest grade sold in the pizza industry and the sauce was sweet,bland and probably came from a #10 can. The MOB stuffed pizza was a horror. The salt level was run-away nuts and I am a person who has been criticized for using too much salt. The garlic tasted raw and there was way too much of it. The "meatballs" were little gray pieces of something that didn't taste at like the meatballs that I grew up with. Hell, they weren't as tasty as canned meatballs. For a pizza that was called a Meatnall p[izza there was scarcely any meat there. I finally gave up and called for the manager. The response was "Gee I don't know what you're talking about. These are best sellers. Everyone likes them". I agreed to pay for the Pete's Special but not the MOB. She was OK with that. She brought me a slice of chocolate cake that was a Sweet Street commercially cranked dessert. One more abomination. I was terrified to consider coffee. The waitress was very good, the manager was pleasent and willing to try but the food was terrible. The atmosphere is strictly sports bar and kind of cheap and beat up. read more

Been going here for years. After the remodel it was really disappointing. The food was never the best, but we supported because it was local and kid friendly. My last visit will be my last. Wait staff was terrible, ( with only 3 tables going) my order was messed up several times, had to ask repeatedly for items like napkins, water, etc.. Plates were dirty, had to send them back. The "Chicago's Best" T.V. segment which recently featured Pete's was a promising sign for its worthiness. But it was only a sign. The best indicator is obviously the taste of the pie. And boy, this pie--we ordered a deep-dish pan with sausage--tasted like it took a ride through a conveyor in Morton's salt factory. If this was not enough, the dough was remarkably saturated. To say that this crust is not crispy is an understatement. Even the cheese does not escape this realm of strange and deranged flavor. In spite of its generous portion, the cheese tasted like a bulk of mozzarella rather than a free flowing layer of cheese that arches from the pie to your mouth. The cheese arch is pivotal. Now, this sausage situation is an interesting one indeed. Not your typical sausage, these pieces of meat are diced into little cube like shapes. Yet, these little diced objects are the saving grace of a pizza that sinks into a land of Suck. Perhaps I'm being too harsh. Perhaps I just got the wrong pie. Because of these suspicions I will probably try Pete's again. Take this as a warning review in the strictest sense of the meaning. Sorry, Pete, whoever you are. read more

When my family and I are in the mood for some pizza, we often turn towards Pete's Pizza #2. It's not a chain, and we are supporting a local business, so why not? We order the family sized thin crust pizza with cheese, onions, sausage, and sometimes green pepper. It is very good, and I usually HATE sausage from chain pizzerias, but this sausage made me fall in love with sausage on pizza. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how the other pizzas are since we stick with what they're known for. Anyways, my family and I also order the sixteen piece chicken wings are pretty good, some small bits of celery and I believe carrot are in there, too. Right now at the time of this review, they are remodeling and increasing their space, and I have not noticed a change in the food due to this (which is great.) As for delivery service, it always works out if I ever have some friends over for a project or just to hang out. However, we live literally just about three blocks away from them, so the pizza wouldn't have an opportunity to get cold, if that's what people are wondering. We will be returning to Pete's when we are in a pizza craving mood. read more

I ordered a stuffed cheese pizza from here and the fucking thing arrived here severely under done (a good portion of the cheese wasn't even melted) and without any sauce on it. I called the place to find out what the hell was going on and the owner practically said that I was lying because the slip said that it was put in for the appropriate amount of time and so he offered me very rudely a whopping 7 dollar credit for my 20 something dollar pizza which I threw out in disgust. I should have went down there and threw that pizza at that fucker's face.
