Ordered a 16 inch thin, sausage, mushroom, onion, with the butter garlic crust, well done. Excellent! Delicious sauce, mushrooms stood out (somehow, don't know how, but loved it). Ingredients and cheese were generous. I was a pizza cook years ago, so maybe my opinion might carry a tad more weight, but hey, to each their own. It was cut into smaller than usual squares - maybe 2.5x2.5, just guessing - which neither me nor the wife minded. She thought is was a tad salty. Been a devoted customer to this place for over 25 years and since the new owners took over, have not gotten an order correctly! Biggest error is they do not know how to cut a pizza that's half/half (half sausage/half onion). Middle of the pizza is always both sides! Why is this so hard??? I haven't had Phil's in a while but I remember when Phil's opened on Northwest Highway. I was 12 so maybe 1983 and the bus driver on 68 NW Hwy told me he was opening his own pizzeria at the location. So, While my dad used to order From Dino's or Roselli on Higgins, I would occasionally order from Phil's. Me and my friend liked to go out on school nights and climb buildings and garage roof tops or just wander around neighborhood and a few times we went into Phil's and the small dining room they had on NW Hwy and would hang around inside to get warm and kill time. The guys working in the kitchen were never bothered and never asked us if we wanted to buy something (we were 13 And 14 or 7th and 8th grade) or ask us to leave so it's always been nice family or people running the restaurant. The pizza was always good, comparable to the other places my dad had ordered from for years before Phil's was opened. I think I also tried the panzerotti and everything was always good. If you're not from the area or new to the area Phil's would be a good choice, based on my experience but You might want to compare other reviews of Phil's for more recent experiences. I think the last couple times I intended to get pizza from Phil's they were closing. They don't seem to stay open late. I've spent a lot of time lately in Los Angeles and for example in Hermosa Beach they have a couple pizzerias right on PCH that will still serve and deliver good NY style pizzas and slices even late like up to or past 2am. I guess the only problem with Phil's would be they close early and you will have to find something else if you're getting hungry or wanting to eat past 10pm. Covid lockdowns really changed the late night scene in Chicago and Midwest but, For example, in Los Angeles, even mom and pops small niche businesses seem to have continued and maintain a late night scene. Chicago is definitely in a slump. Having lived on east and west coast and Wisconsin and Texas and growing up in Chicago I think that's true. But I guess Phil's knows its customers or targets certain customers for a reason and doesn't want to focus on everyone. 40 years speaks for itself and doesn't need my advice. But that's only reason I haven't had Phil's in a while - it closes early. And I don't drink or carouse anymore so I'm not a late night party animal. Just maybe nocturnal and not looking for a 7pm or 8pm sit down or delivery. I guess they focus on families or businesses that want dinner aftern 5pm but not too late, like past 10pm. If you want to try authentic Chicago pizza from NW side of Chicago while you're in town or now that you're in the neighborhood, Phil's was good always and a 14" sausage thin crust or 16" Sausage thin crust for two will give you a good meal and traditional Chicago pizza. And when I met the CTA bus driver 41 years ago boarding the 68 NW Hwy and he told me about soon to be opened pizzeria, I think I remember he had Italian accent, maybe born in Italy, so that's authentic and traditional. It's just been so long ago and memories sometimes cross wires with each other, that I can't say 100% but I would bet yes if I had to bet yes or no. Try to fast all day because Chicago thin crust sausage and cheese is so tasty you will want to eat more than your body's caloric needs for the evening and it's good to balance the books when it comes to calories so you won't get fat. It's a rich delicious calorie dense food you will enjoy and want to keep good appetite and not have guilt afterward. You can always save half for breakfast, it's good cold (unlike cold deep dish) the next day - thin crust sausage and cheese pizza. read more

The new owners have redeemed themselves. Phil's was #1 in my neighborhood rotation with the old owners. I was disappointed in the first couple pizzas I had with the new ownership and had not been back until yesterday. People in one of my Chicago pizza facebook groups said Phil's was good again so I decided to give them another chance. Glad I did. The pizza last night was back to how I remember it. My oh my.. we tried this place out about 2 years ago when we moved here from clark and devon. We were nervous to try a new pizza spot being I'm a die hard fan of JB and my wife to Villa Palermo. Glad to say, phil's did not disappoint!!! The thin crust is amazing, fries are crispy on the out, mushy on the in. Jumbo Wings are just as delicious. We fired our other neighborhood pizza spot that's just steps from Phil's, so decided to try Phil's Pizza. We've been in the neighborhood for 4 years now and now I'm mad we haven't tried Phil's sooner! I was pleasantly surprised by the menu! There were a lot of things that I definitely have to try on future orders. What I did get a chance to try was a deep dish. We did half sausage and half onion/green peppers. My husband brought the pizza home and that boy was a thicky. It weighed like 20 pounds lol. I actually had quite a hard time getting that first slice onto my plate because the cheese was so cheesy! What a good problem to have, but it did stress me out, not gonna lie lol! I actually went and got a pair of scissors to "cut the cheese." The tomato sauce was bombbbb. Sometimes you get a pizza and the sauce is just meh, you know? Well, it wasn't the case here. It had just the right amount of saltiness. The green peppers and onions had just the right amount of crunch. Ugh- so good! I really enjoyed my slice! Leftovers were really good (heated in the air fryer). This was my first time ordering from Phil's . Glad to say it won't be my last . We ordered a stuffed pizza , my boyfriend's favorite. He is a fan of sarrentos on Harlem and Belmont. It was delivered through grub hub . A stuffed usually takes longer , this is understandable. The delivery person texted me and said it would be ready in about 20 minutes form the original time , no big deal. It arrived hot and glad to say delicious. This wasn't for extra peppers just peppers on a PEPPER and egg sandwich. Pizza is still good, but unsure if quite the same. The owner going in the review section saying people are supporting more than ever before is not true. Give you 3 plates for 3 large pizzas - did he expect them to be eaten by only 3 people??? I mean seriously, who taught these guys how to run a successful business??? We tried pizza at this place 6 years ago when we moved into the neighborhood, and we were not impressed and never went back. They recently started advertising "open for lunch" with pizza slices so I decided to give it another try. Had a sausage slice to go and it was delicious! Lots of cheese and plenty of sausage. This place has declined tremendously since Sal and his family sold it and stopped running it. Prices have gone up, credit card fees are outrageous. Sauce tastes different and cheese tastes cheaper. The soup is watered down and clumpy as if they are just reheating old soup. They regularly forget to include sauces for onion rings etc in the order. Sadly we won't be going here anymore. Providing an update on the review I did two months ago for Phil's Pizza D'Oro. I stopped there on News Year Eve and picked up a 16" Pepperoni and I am very happy I did. It was quite simply the best pizza I have eaten hot in years. The service is limited to Pickup only now as the new ownership has something else in mind for the dining room. For eating cold I would give their pizza 4 stars, however their pizza reheats in the oven wonderfully and tastes almost as good as when I picked it up. read more

Yesterday was the first time that I stopped by this restaurant, in a long time. I'm usually not in this neighborhood but I'm glad that I stopped in and ordered a veal parmigiana dinner to go. The restaurant is now only carry-out and delivery, no longer dine-in. The meal was ready in about 10 mins, I drove home and it was still piping hot when I opened it up. The veal parmigiana was simply delicious! Absolutely delicious! I wish that I had ordered two dinners, to refrigerate the other one for the next day's lunch. Highly recommended. read more
