I used to be a regular. This before the pandemic. There were a couple bad years due to road construction that dragged on and on which slowed business down a great deal! Nearby shops closed because of it. But they continued doing their thing. Good Tex Mex and decent pizza. I guess the slow of the pandemic really shifted things because after trying some food the other night. I can't see a reason to try again. The pizza. I requested whether they could add a little extra sauce. She said for $3.50 she could add more! For that cost I asked how much sauce? Like an ounce or what? This got me wondering whether they are specifically counting the numbers of toppings used per pie. She had no response on quantity. I said, I'll stick with the regular amount. So when I received the pizza, there was less than a few teaspoons on a medium everything pie. Was that on purpose or are their pies severely deficient of sauce due to the status of their business?? I dunno and there isn't much desire to repeat. Whatever funk they seem to be in I hope they bounce out. read more

Where do I start... ok so I've always drove by here since early 2000s and never had I stopped to grab a slice. I did today though. So I walked in 20 minutes prior to closing (not my fault it said 11pm online lol). But you know what's amazing? They greeted me like I was family. Despite being close to closing time, they greeted me with such great energy and enthusiasm! You know the saying "you love your job you never work a day in your life?" I've eaten in here numerous times. I've lived in this neighborhood for years and this place has been here for who knows how long. I've always enjoyed the big huge steak burrito in here. And the taco plate is really good. It's never crowded in here but I've always seen a steady stream of takeout orders. But I like that rice milk drink horchata that they've got in here. And you always get your tortilla chips with the green and the red. The pizza is really good in here. I'd get that and I've had that pizza a few times. But definitely I like to come in when I need my burrito fixed. When I also like to get my taco plate fixed. And I got to have that taco plate. That's a must! read more

I've eaten in here a few times in the past year. They always have good food in here. I appreciate them being open when I need to get my big fat steak burrito on. I always like the fact that I get the chips and I like the rice drink. They're real nice in here. I've eaten in here a number of hot times since I've lived in the neighborhood. Great little place run by very friendly folks. The guy who took my order warmly urged me to sit down in their dining room while I waited for my food. He even offered me a glass of water to drink despite the fact that I ordered carryout. I was craving a calzone, so a Yelp search (thank you Raven M.) led me here. I wasn't offered a choice of baked or fried--it was fried! That sure is unusual but it worked. I wish that the calzone had more sauce or came with a side of marinara. Otherwise it was damn tasty. The cheese, pepperoni, and green peppers were all great; the dough was a little greasy and crispy as you would expect. As I said, it was light on sauce and maybe a bit heavy on cheese, but the whole package worked overall. I'll give it a B+. When I first heard of Sergio's, I was skeptical of a place that claimed to be both a taqueria and a pizzaria. For the first few times I ordered, I refused to even look at the Italian side of the menu. The carne asada nachos here are awesome, as are the shrimp fajitas (the shrimp have a small kick to them!). I only eat refried beans if they taste really good, and these ones get finished every time. Today I wasn't in the mood for Mexican again, but not many places around here deliver before noon on weekdays, so it was Sergio's again. Their lasagna is actually very good! Comes with plenty of tasty meat sauce and fresh bread. One order is 2 decent sized meals, so I have lunch for tomorrow as well! Norma is always sweet on the phone, and the delivery guys are quick and friendly. Sergio's is our go-to place for lunch deliveries. I hope to actually make it into the restaurant sometime soon! read more

Fan-flipping-tastic!!! We order here all the time for work lunches and they are always on point. They use fresh ingredients and have a delicious sauce for their pizza. Just tried their carne asada nachos with guacamole and I am in serious heaven. Soooo good, Sergio, sooo freaking tasty. This is a solid pizza place with fast, efficient delivery even on peak Friday hours. I , personally, love the ultra thin crust. Sauce could use a little zing but still a really good pizza. Prices are very reasonable. My daughter ordered a chicken taco and I was happy to see it was all bits of white meat, I hate the "boingers" that other restaurants sneak in. Beans were ridiculous. This would fall between a 4 and a 5 type of place for me but if you've read any of my reviews, you know I'm a round it up kind of person. I ordered delivery through Grubhub after a long day of moving. They arrived 10 minutes earlier than the estimated arrival time and didn't look bewildered at my sweaty hair and dirty shirt so A+ on that customer service. I ordered a ground beef tostada which came with two different salsas, cheese fries and a 'baby sized' pepperoni pizza. The pizza was okay, probably one of the better thin crust Chicago style pizzas I've had, but not revolutionary. I'm starting to think great Chicago thin crust on the north side is not a thing. Anyway, I had one slice and gave the rest to my friend. My other items were really good though! The fries were pretty standard with plasticky cheese sauce, but I love that and honestly it hit the spot. The tostada was definitely the star of the show-- I liked both salsas and was impressed that it was still crispy when it arrived at my apartment. Well today was a big commit a home neatness day, so I was not up for cooking anything or going anywhere.This place is in my neighborhood and I have never ordered from here, so I thought I would give it a try.. My order was fairly large because it was going to have to cover lunch for mom and I and supper for mom, Christopher and I. For lunch mom had a torta (ground beef) and a baked potato. Thumbs up on both of them. She does not like beans and rice so was great to have an alternative. I ordered a small Tex-Mex Pizza #1, which is thin crust and has sausage, fresh tomato and jalapeno on it. I really liked it. In my post menopausal dotage, I find my craving for hot food is escalating!!! For dinner I got 2 orders of spaghetti with meat sauce and a small chef's salad. The salad was very nice, lots of cheese and pepperoni in it. When I first looked at the spaghetti, I thought they were being a little chintzy on the amount, but DANG, the sauce was so meaty and rich that the 3 of us split one order and the salad. It was pretty darn good, better than a lot of the sit-down Italian restaurants in the area that I have eaten at. All in all everything I ordered ranged from solidly good to really good. AND, the best part, I still have a full order of spaghetti and most of my pizza left. OK, so here is the deal: It's a Mexican restaurant but has pizza there as well. Tacos are pretty good and I wouldn't say pizza was that bad either but I wouldn't go out of my way to check it out. On the flip side, my buddy LOVED their cheeseburgers. He said that if you want to get some, get em with extra bacon! Pros: Good tacos, decent pizza, good place to grab a quick bite that doesn't cost you any arm or leg. Cons: The bathrooms didn't impress me much. This place is not a good place to get your pizza fix, so let me get that out of the way. Great authentic Mexican food, tastes home cooked. I'd recommend getting a burrito. They leave you a choice of two salsas at your table; I'd say try them both and see which you like better. Dining area could be larger. There's a bar area in the back the seems to be taking up space, considering they do not serve drinks behind it. This little place is one of those gems tucked away on Bryn Mawr. A family tended mexican joint AND pizzeria. I know, sounds funny, but they excel at both. Their Hawaiian Torta deserves a trip. I remember my first one. A friend told me he had discovered them and so I sat down on the little 50's style counter (back before they added the dining room) and wondered what I was getting into. OMG. Spicy al pastor pork and fresh jalapenos dance in your mouth with pineapples, embraced by melted cheese. The bread holds this fine mess together valiantly. Spicy, not too sweet, flavorful! And so satisfying. Have it with some guacamole. Hands down some of the best I have had in a restaurant. You watch them cut it up and make it in front of you. Even the chips are deep fried in the moment. How sexy is that? Hooyah! But I don't want Mexican tonight? PIZZA, says you? This isn't Pizza Hut prices, but the pizzas are tasty and cooked perfect. Cheesy, not skimpy on ingredients, nice thickness and doughiness, ugh- I'm hungry just thinking about it. Also, very prompt with delivery. Where else can you get amazing pizza *and* guacamole delivered to you? Edit: The pizza that rotates is kinda sad. Don't order that one, it is no indicator of what they can do. Their fresh pizzas are where all the magic is. Their sopes are also pretty filling with a crunchy base and lots of stuff on top for your belly, the chile relleno dinner is a simple and hearty option I enjoy, but objectively, I know the quality does not rival my other favorites. One of our family favorites. We started coming here because it's a short 1/2 a block away from our house. After years of being regular customers, the staff at Sergio's is practically family to us. I've got to admit, we don't often stray from our order of the Carne Asada burrito dinner so I can't comment too much on the menu. However, what I can tell you is that we're never disappointed with our regular order (we literally order Carne Asada burritos on weekly basis... sometimes more often). Sergio's will always have a place in my heart because while drinking at the Hollywood I often get drunk-munchies for either pizza or tacos. Well gosh, a little hole in the wall that's open late and serves pizza and tacos! Excellent. The food here is pretty cheap. You're definitely not paying any extra for ambiance, but that really doesn't matter. The food comes quickly and everyone that works there is pretty polite. The tacos are good, the rice and beans are awesome. The pizza is your average pizza-by-the-slice style. Before I started making this a late night destination I used to come by here on half days in high school (which for me was right down the block) and my whole crew could afford to eat great and watch a ball game on tv. I went to high school right up the street from Sergio's (bet you can guess where!) and it used to be a place called Jonathan's. The only thing that changed, really, was the name. This place is really as good as it gets. The guys and girl who work there got to know us fairly quickly, because my friends and I were there really all the time. It's dirt cheap; as of like a year ago, a huge slice of really good cheese pizza (amaaazing crust) was $1.75. For high schoolers working on nothing more than a weekly allowance, Sergio's was a godsend. Also cheap and really good is the guacamole and homemade chips, which is what I frequently got for a snack since I was a vegetarian all through high school. The prices on the menu are really good all the way around, and you can do your own quality control since you can sit at the counter and watch exactly what they're making you. This place really is a dive. It's tiny, just the kitchen, the register, and maybe ten seats at a counter. As for ambience, there is none. It's all fast food, but they make it all fresh. They have a pretty expansive menu of Mexican classics and Italian snacks. They keep cans of pop, bottles of water, and many flavors of Jarritos in a cooler behind the register. Now, the best part. The cheap, greasy, crispy, heart-stopping, just-slap-that-baby-straight-on-my-thighs wet dream of guilty pleasures. Sergio's has calzones. You can get them baked, or if you're short on time, they'll drop it in the fryer. It's a wad of fresh pizza dough, rolled out, stuffed with a ridiculous amount of cheese, sauce, and topping, pinched closed, and deep fried. I can't even imagine the calorie count, here, and I refuse to even try. It's the most comforting comfort food I think I've ever had. It's heavy, hot, stretchy and gooey on the inside, golden, cripsy, and a bit chewy on the outside. I always got mine with fresh tomatoes as a topping, and the diced fresh tomatoes with the thick sauce and the mozzarella... OM NOM NOM NOM. And if I remember correctly, the whole thing was under $5. I don't care if you don't like Mexican food, or pizza, or dives. If you're short on cash (and who isn't nowadays?) and need something that can fill you up for the entire day and make your tummy happy to boot, go to Sergio's and get a deep fried calzone. Thank me later. [EDIT, but not needing an "Update"] 01/30/10: I went into Sergio's again a few weeks ago needing serious dinner seriously quick. It was almost to closing time, so the place was empty, and the prices had gone up only so much as would be expected in five years. However, the important thing to take away from this edit is that they have expanded into the space next door with an open, airy, quaintly decorated seating area in addition to the sparse and oft-crowded counter. This is a great little dive restaurant. This is just good food,, cheap. They have scrumptious cheeseburgers...just add the bacon and wowow...yummy. If you go to one of the colleges in the area...spread the word, baby, because this place is open late and the food is great. I ordered the flautas here like I do at basically any restaurant that offers them. The delivery was quick and the driver was very pleasant. He seemed very gracious for the tip I gave him, even though it wasn't that much. The food arrived in tact. Normally when I get Mexican delivery, the presence of beans, sour cream, guacamole etc make the flautas mushy. They put everything on the side which was a good idea. The flautas were crunchy and damn delicious. The rice and beans were a little bland but some salt and pepper easily fixed that problem. The guacamole didn't look very appetizing but it was good! I used to stop by here mostly to grab a quick snack when hanging out at the outdoor cafe next door... but Sergio's quickly became a destination in and of itself... for only one reason: the Hawaiian Torta. Now I know its probably scary to hype up a single entree from a hole-in-the-wall place like Sergio's... I won't tell you to drive all the way to North Park from the South Side just to sample this delicious treat, but I will say that if you're in the neighborhood, its DEFINITELY worth a try. You got a flavorful medley of ham and pastor, grilled pineapple, avocado, jalapenos, mayonnaise and cheese on sweet Mexican bread... its a great late night combo that will satisfy even the most severe cases of the munchies. anyways, this is a good place, with good people and in a nice neighborhood, but really for me its really all about the Hawaiian torta. Went here a couple nights ago with my mom after reading and finding out about this place from Yelp. The Hawaiian torta was absolutley delicious but not so over stuffed which was great. My mom ordered a taco de chicharron which was very fresh and a taco de carne asada. I have driven by this place so many times but just thought it was just another pizza joint but was very surprised to find out it was not!!
