Every so often I'll run into some whack pizza and here we go. I ordered for delivery a slice and a beef patty with cheese. I asked for the pizza to be well done. The pizza came soggy I'm not sure if it was in water but I've never seen pizza so soggy with cheese that I was able to rip it like a napkin, trash. The beef patty for what it's worth was mid. I needed a quick slice before heading to the airport and decided to give this place a shot. I typically only go to Vesuvio's but the pizza here was decent. I wasn't as fond of the sauce, but overall it was a decent slice of pizza. They seemed to have a decent menu of various items aside from just pizza. In addition, the prices are on par with other pizza shops in the area, they wanted $3 per slice. read more

I have had their pizza before and it's ok. Today, 12/23/22 I was next door at the nail salon and decided to stop in for a bite before heading home. I went in to eat pasta. It was HORRIBLE! I asked for penne with vodka sauce and Chicken. It's on the menu as Chicken Vodkagiana which I assumed was Chicken parm with Vodka sauce pasta. The guy at the counter said they didn't have penne and asked if I wanted ziti. Also order a side of garlic knots. What came out was really sad looking half dry pasta with a sauce that came out of a jar or can. Was almost sour tasting. We ate half of it. The garlic knots were old and dry and lacking flavor. No marina sauce was offered with them. When it came time to pay I was told my order was $21 and I was flabbergasted. I thought it was $13.50 as it says on the menu. The guy proceeded to tell me that I ordered a side order with it which made zero sense. I literally ordered a pasta dish and didn't realize I was going to be charged separately for chicken in a dish that says "Chicken Vodkagiana" in the name. Apparently... "the dish" is just chicken parm and the side order is the pasta... I'm honestly still confused. Especially since my chicken wasn't even parmigiana... it was cut up pieces of dry tasteless chicken cutlet. After some fuss and me not backing down they changed the price for me. With a warning that it's was "just this time." Like I'm ever going back...lol This place is a joke. Apart from the food there were some issues I cannot overlook... There was a weird smell of cat litter and I realized it was coming from the delivery guy every time he walked past us we were smacked with the smell coming off his jacket. I didn't check their bathroom as I usually do for my yelp reviews cause I didn't want to spend another moment in there. While waiting for the food I left my 11yo at a table to wait while I ran to the corner store to get hot tea (for me) and hot chocolate (for the kid.) We didn't want to drink cold drinks cause it was freezing outside. As we were leaving an older guy, who was just lingering in the pizzeria the whole time, he held the door for us and wished us well. My child then told me that while they were waiting for me the old man approached them and repeatedly kept saying "you're beautiful, so pretty god bless who made you..." which made my child uncomfortable. My kid knows i have no hair on my tongue and I would've flipped on this old man so they didn't tell me until we left cause they didn't want to cause a scene. I'm so upset that my child was even approached... why is there a predator just sitting there talking to children. My kid is obviously a preteen... old man should've kept his comments to himself. I almost went back to confront him but my kid begged me to leave it alone. This place is trash! Save your money and your time! read more

This place is usually pretty good. However, 2 out of the last 3 times that I ordered from here the pizza was terrible!!! First time, the pizza crust tasted old, like bread on the verge of going moldy! I gave it another chance, because the food is usually pretty decent. Last time, as soon as the delivery guy took my food out the carrier, something smelled off. I opened the box and it smelled terrible!! Had a veggie slice and the veggies were definitely no good! If you want pizza with absolutely zero taste you found your place. I choose them due to proximity to Bay Parkway walkway and wanted a hot slice sitting near water. Red Baron frozen pizza had better taste. I'm not expecting gourmet but jeez, A decent slice in Bay Ridge should be a no brainer. I was surprised. The pizza is pretty good, he uses pretty good ingredients, the cheese is 100% Grande mozzarella unlike other places that blend it with 10% Monterey jack. So I was in this particular neighborhood in Brooklyn and I wanted a quick slice of pizza before waiting for my train to head into the city. Pete's Pizzaria is located smack dab in the heart of Bay Ridge. The service here is fast and efficient, and they have a decent selection of pies to choose from. They also serve Italian inspired sandwiches like Chicken Parm as well as pasta. I ordered a mushroom slice with extra cheese. A few minutes later it came out nice and hot with generous loads of mozzarella melted over the mushrooms. It was soo good!! read more

I was craving that greasy slice of Brooklyn pizza and I was in the bayridge area. I asked my friend where I can go and he recommended petes pizza. It looks like an old school pizzeria with the booths and square garbage pails. The pizza looks like it's been chillen in front of that glass for many hours and it looks dried out. A slice will cost $2.50 it kind of tastes like cardboard with sauce and cheese with bland flavors. I guess if you're in the neighborhood and you're hungry head over to petes, or find a more decent pizzeria in the area if you're looking for something more. Do not buy food from this establishment. My chicken parm hero had no parm. They claimed I had to click further and pay extra for the cheese on my parm. Parm w/o parm? These people should be ashamed to call this pizza. Infrequently, if I was pressed for time, I would buy a slice at this place. Typically, it was bland and had a texture near to rubber. On this particular day I went in intending to purchase a slice. When I walked in the counterman was taking left-over pizza out of the refrigerator, as well as a pie out of the oven. The left-over pizza looked very dried out and unappetizing. I asked for a slice and the counterman started giving me a left over. I told him not that and to give me a fresh slice, that is fresh for this place. Much to my disbelief, the counterman actually said to me why not this, pointing to the dried out left-over pizza. In fact, it was common for this place to display pizza that looked like it was sitting there for days. Disgusted with these people, I walked out. In addition, to the pathetic product, the hired help is rude and discourteous. This place has been here a long time. Although the pizza has always been low quality it just continues to go down. I am a person who takes her pizza very seriously. I arrived in Brooklyn with some time to kill and a serious craving for NY-style pizza. It had been 5 years since my last visit, and I was suffering this craving pretty bad. So, on my way to the Salty Dog to meet my friend, I slipped into the first pizzeria I spotted. It was Pete's. And there I had one of the most satisfying slices I've ever eaten in my life. Later, I told my friend this and she gave me the evil eye. Then I was scolded. Then her sister came home and scolded me. Apparently, the locals don't like Pete's. They hate it. There are at least 6 better places for slices in the neighborhood, and I had to go and like Pete's. (Tourist!) Shame aside, i still think it was really a good slice (and my dining companion agrees). They have everything else you'd expect--garlic knots, hot and cold heros, calzones, etc. But how can you go wrong with a simple slice of cheese? Just don't tell Lithsz! It wouldn't be fair for me to give a five star review to Pete's because I only ate there once, though, as previously stated--it was heavenly. read more

Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything special. I ordered the eggplant slice,cold, though the nice man behind the counter wanted to heat it, to amplify the taste. I declined, got my slice, no extra condiments and dashed. my first bite, holy crap that's awesome! It was a layered eggplant slice. nice. This place is just a place you grab a slice from if you are not near anywhere else which might be better. Its one of those joints in Bay Ridge which to me, has nothing at all unusual or distinctive about it to distinguish it from any of its peers on the rest of the rungs of the lesser-pizza-tier it occupies. The pizza is basically tasteless. It is hot and fresh, and filled my need to scarf something down but nothing much more can be said about it. The tomato sauce is thin and without any kind of 'zip' or 'snap' in the slightest. Cheese is nowhere near salty enough. Crust? Perhaps the most important part of the pie. But here it is handled negligibly. No effort is made to follow any classic tradition. It was thick, and doughy. Pete's has the usual variety of slice choices on the counter; and specialty rolls. They're probably okay but none of it looked all that appetizing. Hey, I am sure they make some decent products here; but I'm just not that interested in trying every last thing they offer in order to find out what that might be. The place looked clean enough. It's definitely an 'old school' pizzeria with 'old school' looks. I would certainly sit down here and eat. And while I did not exchange enough conversation with the staff (two older gentlemen) to discern *either* geniality or gruffness. I will say its refreshing to encounter at least one pizzeria in Bay Ridge run by guys who actually appear to be Italians. Pete's offers both an excellent, classic New York pizza. But it also has exceptional artisanal- style pies, without pretense, and without pretending that an honest pizza, made with a little care, needs to be $30. The seating area is nothing to look at, but the people who go there for a lunch know what they are doing. Follow their example. We can't decide if the white pie includes truffle oil or not. If not, then the cheeses blend in this perfectly aromatic way to suggest that aroma. So it does not really matter whats in it - it makes my toes curl to eat it. Whenever we order from Pete's, we feel like we are doing our part to keep the NYC pizza tradition alive. None of that "La" or "Di" stuff for us. When I first moved into the neighborhood, I was looking for something quick and easy to grab and take home. My husband and I each got a hero from here. For the price, I was pretty impressed at the quantity. One hero each was way too much for both of us. They were fully loaded. The toppings were spilling out (which was great) and the sauce was making the bread kind of mushy (which was not so great). I get takeout here all the time. The pizza and sandwiches are good and the service is fast. (hot sandwiches are made fresh and take up to 15-20 minutes so call ahead.) The place is what it is - a neighborhood pizza stand. It's not a three or four star restuarant and it doesn't try to be. There's a TV inside that you can watch while you eat. There are half a dozen or so tables so if you're with a group of friends you'll be fine. Personally I don't care if Pete or anyone else stands on the sidewalk and smokes. It's not like he or anyone else smokes inside the place. Update 3/23/17: If you order delivery, it will be super fast but it will be a reheated slice pie made earlier in the day with the toppings and some cheese to cover it on top. These guys do not make fresh pies when you order. It won't happen even if you ask , so be warned. My latest delivery pie was black on the bottom and barely edible. I threw more than half of it in the garbage. About 30 dollars including tip for this! (They raised prices recently.) At least the chain shops make the pies fresh when you order. Bay Ridge around the 80's has quite a few pizza Places, and this one I believe may be the best in terms of quality and taste. Take in: The place is clean, they have a TV going for entertainment, and they are quite friendly, in a Brooklyn kind of way. Delivery: Extra cheese actually arrives on the pie when you make a phone order, which is a rarity at most pizza places. Staff is intelligible over the phone and friendly. Delivery guys are considerate and called as opposed to ringing the bell after 10, so as to not disturb neighbors. read more

For an old style pizzeria, you'd think they would get it right. Well they don't. Went there one time, and never again. The old man behind the counter(probably the owner Pete) is not the friendliest of people- he doesn't say hello, can i help you?, or thank you. If I didn't hear him talk, I'd figure he was a mute- the way he looks at you w/ that expressionless face. While I was sitting their eating, Pete was by the door smoking a cigarette. A customer happened to walk in, waited for about a minute to be served- then walked out after she saw no one behind the counter. Pete continued to smoke and finish his cigarette and paid the customer no attention. He doesn't seem to really care about his customers or his business. Pete's. What can I say, I love this place. To me, Tony and the crew make the best pizza I've ever tasted. When away from NY I shudder whenever anyone suggests we get pizza, because I know it will be a disappointment after having had Pete's. They've ruined me in terms of ever enjoying another slice anywhere else ever again. But I'm not calling that a bad thing. I've been going there for years and live around the block. My bf has been going there for close to 15 years and we both are devoted customers. In addition to pizza, they have dinners, sandwiches, pasta, rolls, calzones, pinwheels, garlic knots, even soup(!), and in the warmer months Italian ice. It is all good. Better than good - delicious. It has that secret ingredient: love; a true passion for the pie and all things Italian. In addition to awesome food that's about a 3 minute walk out my front door, the people at Pete's are great. No glad-handing b/s, just honest-to-goodness guys (and the occasional gal) who know their pizza, and their neighborhood. They're hardworking; and every time we stop in or pass them on the street there's always a wave, a smile, a hello, how are you doing? If I'm without my guy, they ask about him. And if he's there without me, they ask after me too. Pete's is the type of place that makes me so glad that I live here. It's a big reason why Bay Ridge feels more like a small town somewhere in middle America back in the 1950s. And that, to me, is a very good thing. Something the rest of the country in large part no longer has (you know those towns where all they have are Starbucks and corporate restaurant chains with flair-wearing, overly enthusiastic servers? Yes, awful places such as that really do exist, and in large number). Last thoughts - Tony is a true Bay Ridge icon. That man makes me smile every time I see him. It doesn't get more Brooklyn than him. And that sign, it's a gem that I hope lasts forever. I lied, one more thought: the delivery guys are all super nice, fast at delivering your food, and they remember your name and say hello whenever they see you out and about. read more
