I have been looking forward to trying this place for a long time. It was OK. The spaghetti was decent, the meatballs were very good, the ravioli was awful. The dough was too dense with not enough filling and it was undercooked. My sister's was the same so I think that's just how they make them. The bread was great. It's a cute restaurant with a very homey vibe. The food is average home cooking. It was a nice lunch stop on our road trip (it beats McD's) but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. read more

I have never had great service in my whole entire life. This is definitely been the best experience of food and it's in a great location. The food was absolutely terrific tonight but when we first came in, we had to wait for 15 minutes we were getting ready to walk out the door and one of the employees asked us to stay. We gave her a second chance and she had our food with us in about two minutes. The employees were so nice and everything about tonight was so amazing. We ended up getting a free dessert without even asking since we had such horrible service in the first place, it was definitely a roller coaster but I do recommend this restaurant. read more

My husband and I like to travel around Oklahoma on our weekends off and find new, interesting things around the state. So visiting Oklahoma's little Italy was right up our ally of interest. And ever since we took a trip to Rome a year ago, we've been pretty picky about Italian food. Was going to Pete's Place a trip to Rome? No. Was the atmosphere and food fantastic, with everything we ate tasting fresh and homemade? Absolutely. Everything is served family style and we were given an overview of how everything worked by our wonderful waitress, Misty. You also sit in your own private "dining room" so it feels like you are at home (or at least enjoying privacy away from other diners which was nice.) We were recommended the pork loin and the sausage, which is made local. Both had an amazing smoked flavor and I absolutely recommend you try either. We had so much food we had to take to go boxes (we have spaghetti for days in our fridge). Can't review the famous lamb fries as we did not try them, but we definitely look forward to making another trip down in order to do so. If you are intimidated by the prices, you definitely get enough food to make up for it. Also, order a Choc beer. This is our families favorite place to eat Italian! I think it's a favorite more for the past memories, because the food just isn't that great. I think they forgot the oil and water in the salad dressing the last time we were there because it was just straight vinegar and barely edible. Usually the salad is our favorite part! The glass of wine I got was just gross, I tried to drink it anyway but couldn't even force it down. They still charged us for it so my husband tried to drink it and he couldn't get it down either. Well, this place came HIGHLY recommended by good friends, so I know there are lots of folks who love it. When we went, however, I was blown away by how much it failed to live up to the hype. The menu is puny, the pasta was flooded in overmuch sauce (that could be blamed on one person in the kitchen having a bad) and, SERIOUSLY, when we asked for garlic, they said they didn't have any, just garlic salt. Not for everyone. We've been going here for 25 years off and on. The sauce is unique. It is not the tart tomato wang some expect - almost like there is a veal demi glace base to the sauce. Their house beer is excellent. The Italian dinner for 2 (spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, salad, bread, and relish plate) are enough to feed 4 people. Private little dining rooms are very nice. Go for the steak topped with mushrooms. (Mine was fine. Not impressive, no, but not a choice I regret having made.) The Italian food here isn't really Italian at all; it's "Okie-talian." (In other words, it is to Italian food what Tex-Mex is to true Mexican cuisine. And that's OK if, in fact, that's what you fancy.) The prices here are outrageous for what you get -- PERIOD. (At least the lamb fries were reasonably priced, yes, but -- much as I love lamb fries -- what the hell are they doing on the menu of an ostensibly Italian restaurant?) I can take the same twenty-five or thirty bucks I spent here and have a really nice meal in OKC or Dallas, after al.. My steak cost roughly the same as it would in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, or Dallas. (And, once again, it WAS a decent steak. But it's pretty bad, you have to remember, when steak w/mushrooms is your go-to choice in a place that's supposed to be ITALIAN.) I mean, where's the fresh seafood? The espresso? The pasta e Fagioli? The Spaghetti alla Puttanesca? The Panna cotta? The grappa? Bland pasta, iceberg freakin' lettuce instead of good quality greens, singularly pathetic ravioli with virtually no stuffing at all . . . this place is more along the lines of The Olive Garden than anything even remotely resembling a real Italian restaurant. (And that's no compliment.) Portions are huge -- there's THAT. (Now wonder the average patron around here has his or her own ZIP code.) I'm glad I just stuck with the steak. I'm giving this "institution" two Yelp stars in lieu of three for three reasons alone: a) the steak was good, b) the service was friendly, if cursory, and c) several of my fellow diners liked the Choc beer, a drink I'm no huge fan of. (It's made near here, though, and I think it's almost de rigueur that it be on the menu in this part of the state.) This place reminds me of Eischen's up in Okarche in that, well, the food may not be all that, yet every Oklahoman feels the need to make this place a pilgrimage spot. The COJ Plate was normal, something you'd expect. The Salad was very, VERY sour, as in you need to add a lot of parmesan and drink lots of water (maybe because it's a vinaigrette). But the toasted bread was actually delightful, a crispy toast covered with a buttery spread, way better than your typical breadsticks. Then the spaghetti arrive... and it was HUGE! I know it was 2 portions of it, but dang it was a mountain! It came with 2 measly meatballs and 2 homemade raviolis. The ravioli skin was too thick, while the tomato sauce was watery and had no distinct flavor (could've been more "thick" and added more seasoning). At this time, this was enough to fill 2 people. But boy we were reluctant to start the Lamb Fries and Chicken Alfredo. However, the Lamb fries were my favorite! A crispy, light batter exterior with a thin, soft tender lamb in the middle. At first I questioned if it was actually lamb, but it caught onto me. As for the Chicken Alfredo, it wasn't as good as the lamb fries. The chicken pieces were dry (stringy texture), the sauce was less flavorful (no seasoning/punch to it, Olive Garden was slightly better), and there wasn't enough sauce to coat the pasta. The value of the Lamb Fries far outweigh the Chicken Alfredo. To conclude this lengthy review, I'd like to say this was an interesting place to eat at. Obviously, opinions will vary with different palates, but I think everyone can agree that the portions were worth the price. But for me, the flavor was what brought down the portion's value. Would I eat here again? No. But, I think this is a great place for very, VERY hungry customers on special occasions. If this restaurant is on the way to your destination, try it out! read more

Wow! This is the same place which makes Choc Beer. I grew up in Oklahoma hearing about Choc Beer from my family here in Eastern Oklahoma. I wanted to go in have one beer to see if I liked it. Due to the bar being closed because of COVID-19 the host asked if we could be seated so I could try one beer! Nope! They insisted we'd have to "JOIN" them for dinner to be able to have one beer! We sat with a group of four, they brought out 3 meatballs & ravioli (3). We ask our waitress why she had no response. We ordered steak for two she forgot the mushrooms. Planned my birthday dinner out with husband on a friday night about 6:30, should have called ahead to get reservation for private room. Were taken round about to a room with 4-5 other couples already eating. After being seated were served wilted salad over-dressed with vinegar dressing , did not seem too freshly made. Soon were served luke warm spaghetti platter with one meat ball and two raviolis and a huge mound of spaghetti. On tasting the lamb fries I could hardly stomach because they were grossly over salted and husband remarked that his rib eye was probably dairy cow or old Ferdinand the bull, pretty tough in spots. We thought it was quite costly! $76 for two people. When we walked in, I saw boxes of spaghetti sauce stacked by a wall...i guess the sauce is not homemade? The set-up is $27 and consists of a green salad, antipasto plate consisting of a few slices of cheese, some green olives, and some banana peppers, while the spaghetti platter has a couple of meatballs and a couple of ravioli. The bread was good and plentiful and the refills are free, then if you order a main course it will be another $twenty-something.The twenty-something main course for me was chicken parmigiana. That was it, one chicken breast by itself on a plate...for twenty-something! We tried a Choc Beer, and peach beer and split a golden ale. This is my second visit. The food is very inconsistent. My first visit I ordered the lasagne and my second visit I ordered the ribeye medium rare which was more like rare extremely rare so I sent it back for the second time and opted for the lasagne. We waited for 15 minutes before a bus boy over head us say, "I guess they forgot about our two teas." She asked if we would like to place our order. We did. We tried to get the male servers attention who was working in the room across the hall but after several attempts, I just went myself to get the boxes and ask for our check to leave. When our waitress finally came with the ticket, I said, we would have liked to have our drinks refilled and she takes a defensive mode and states, " I just asked you if you wanted refills". My husband nor I heard her ask at all nor was she prompted to see it empty and refill it. The tea glasses were clearly empty but she did not apologize nor get them refilled but rather left our room.
