Went in today after Chris and I caught "Man of Steel" (which was pretty good BTW) I was in the mood to try out the Fish Tacos so we got 1 Halibut $7 and 1 Snapper $5... I think we preferred the grilled fish over the fried. It was a little dry though we needed more Avocado Crema so we asked for Limes and juiced it up. Also I asked for a side of Pineapple Marmalade (this is served with the Pork Tacos) but it sounded intriguing so I wanted to try it out... DELICIOUS!! BTW you need to request Limes they do not automatically accompany your tacos. People who got here after me already eat and left, well I keep asking for 30 minutes where is my food and they're keep telling me I'm next I'm just wondering how long can take to make a burrito and a torta?? Wonderfully fresh, exciting and surprising flavors. My mom and I had the ceviche and the fish tacos. Eat the taco quick because the tortilla starts to fall apart in the juice-super yummy! The guys behind the counter working were really cool and helpful. They explained the menu a bit to my mom and had patience for our large and somewhat complicated order. I was a little shocked to see tacos for $5 by both my mom and wife said they were pretty large and the meat was good quality. I had the Machaca burrito which was huge and very filling. This small location becomes larger as you approach the seating area, it is decorated beautifully and the restaurant owner really made the best of the area with what they had. The seating is in nice shade, the location is ALL outside seating so flies will be present. Now for the important part: the food. We ordered the ceviche first. The ceviche itself was very good, it came in a styrofoam cup with some chips to share. I ordered a carnitas taco, I do not recall what my girlfriend ordered but we also ordered a side of beans. None of the food that we ordered that wasn't ceviche was good. The food is very bland, the beans and rice are so bad.. This place has location potential but the food is not competitive with other restaurants in the area. This place is a bit pricey, though with little enjoyment of the food, the next subject is the service. The young gentleman at the register could use a big time up. He has attitude and shows that he does not want to be there. The cook in the building also is rude when you are clarifying your order or asking if you heard your name get called out. asked for two cheese and jalapeño tamales and got them with meat instead. the service here is always incredibly terrible, i've placed a few orders here before and every time i go i am met with rudeness. It honestly feels like the workers truly don't want to be here. when I told them that my order was wrong the blondish worker told me that it wasn't wrong. After I did eventually get my tamales they didn't even apologise. And apparently asking for salsa is too much of an inconvenience for them although I had to spend my whole lunch break, getting my order that was supposed to have in the first place, he continued to roll his eyes because I asked him for extra salsa. truly the worst don't come here unless you want terrible service and mid food. read more

This food here is damn good. Some other Yelp reviewer started their review like that and I felt like plagiarizing. But really, it's good. And the ambiance, service, and street food vibe here all around makes Petiscos a place to come back to. I got the John Pollo which at the time of this review, is "roasted chicken, creamy tomatillo sauce, refried black beans, pickled red onion, queso, and fresco. You can see it in the attached photos to my review. This was a work lunch, so there are other photos you'll see as part of my review including carnitas tacos and fish tacos. With that said, keep in mind because the concept is around small bites, the tacos are pretty small, so if you have a big appetite, you may want to double or even triple the number of tacos you'd normally get at other places. I ordered a coke as well, which came in a 12 oz can as opposed to from a soda fountain machine. There is free WiFi, but as I was on a work lunch, I didn't get a chance to test the network, plus it required a password and the staff appeared busy -- This place does get pretty popular around lunch hour. Service was slower than most other taco places, but since there is only one person working in the kitchen, it's to be expected. Finally, there is plenty of seating here and the music is good. Some songs that came up during my visit here include but are not limited to: - Cluster by Porcelain Raft - Lazuli by Beach House - Burning by The Whitest Boy Alive So if that gives you an idea of what kind of music plays at Petiscos, there's your answer. I've been here twice - the first time a few weeks after they opened and at that time I was disappointed because the food was tasty but small portions at premium prices, not what I expected given the casual atmosphere. 4 of us left hungry and $40 bucks lighter. A few months later and the prices have not changed that I noticed but the portions are much better...I recently had a bowl of posole and one taco and I was full...excellent! I love this place. Who cares if it's slightly overpriced and not that authentic. If you take it for what it is, this place is really great. You order the food in this little cottage stand that is barely visible off of 1st. It takes you to an outdoor dining area where several picnic tables are laid out. Lights are strung across the trees and when the sun sets, you get a nice glow from the tree lights. It's nice. And cute. I have sampled the beef torta which has slow braised beef cheek, avocado, shaved red onion with queso fresco on top of a toasted ciabatta roll which is slightly small, but delightfully tasty. I also like getting the red snapper taco sometimes when I feel like ballin and spending $4.75 on a taco. The street corn is pretty good too. I mostly come to grab a beer, and just really enjoy the quaintness of the space. The flavors of the food are non-offensive and with that, sometimes slightly bland. The flavors are mute, but I get it especially considering the location of the restaurant. Take Petiscos for what it is. It's fun. Clean. And a nice place to grab a beer. read more

This is a really cute space! There's only outside seating, but we didn't mind because the weather was beautiful. I saw a fire pit and lights surrounding the space, so I can only imagine what the ambiance in the evening would be like! Also, pet friendly! We brought our dog, and one of the staff members had a water bowl set out for him. The ceviche did not have as much acid as I would've expected from others, but that didn't negatively impact the dish in any way. It had a crunchy element that I really loved. We also got the hibiscus drink, which was really refreshing. All 3 of the tacos we tried were really good. The chicken in the hatching hen was tender and flavorful. The spicy porker has a definite kick, so if you like spicy, you'll love the habanero slaw. The fish taco had great texture and a good combo of flavors. The potatoes and street corn weren't bad, but I feel like the tacos really stand out here. I would definitely be coming back here to try some of their other tacos! read more

Delicious food, I ordered the posole and I enjoyed it completely, it doesn't have the traditional red quajillo chile or the traditional green tomatillo chile but a tomato salsa base, but it's a delicious take on regular posole. My husband ordered a birria burrito and that was delicious as well. Their chips and salsa were amazing as was the champurrado. I will be back soon! There's really no indication that this little spot is there---the sign doesn't specify what kind of food they serve or that it's even an eatery of any sort. Not sure what the problem is or if people are taking themselves too seriously but this place is easily one of the most "good vibes" spots in all of Claremont... I had just sat down at one of the picnic tables and taken a bite from my carnitas burrito when a gentleman asked for the restroom door code so his son could relieve himself. We had a pork taco and a gringo taco to simply try out the place. They only brought us one plate even though they saw it was two of us. The pork taco was flavorless, the meat was hard, and the pineapple overpowered the pork's flavor. The gringo taco was HORRIBLE! We get their BRC burritos and they are fantastic! They do not skimp on the great ingredients and pack the burrito full of what's yummy! Their street corn side item is to die for! They Casa salad is amazing and the beans in the salad is a really nice touch. It's a meal all in itself. The outdoor patio is welcoming and a nice respite from the hustle of sidewalks. This place is so cute. It makes me feel like I'm sitting in my parents' back yard. I checked it out a few years ago and enjoyed my tacos and corn on the cob, but I think I got too lazy to write a review. A few days ago, I had a chance to stop in. I ordered two chicken tacos and the fruit tray. Everything was made to order, fresh and so good. The fruit was identical to the way us Mexicanos like to eat it, with lime juice and Tajin (red chili salt). As some have mentioned, the tacos are not true Mexican street tacos, but that's ok, we all know where to get our fix in our neighboring cities. These are a little more gourmet. I will definitely be back to try out some of the new menu items.
