If I lived in the area I would be there once a week. love this place. The food is excellent. The fish is incredibly fresh and well prepared, whatever they order. If you end up at this place, it's not on a whim, it's because you went there for a reason given its location. On my most recent trip we took 8 people and eight bottles of white wine, Bordeaux blanc, etc and gorged ourselves on seafood. "Cozy" atmosphere as some would call it. "Rustic" feel due to the furniture/decor. Ciopinno didn't impress me, as my half lobster came out half raw. The broth was great, sort of tomato-like. Wish it came with some crostino to dip in it. Scallops & shrimp were both kind of overcooked and chewy. Ironic.....since my lobster was not fully cooked. For $25, I wish it came with something else on the side. The bread & dip for starters was amazing. Must be the garlic & oil mixed together. Skate wing tasted allright, but I'm not an expert on fish so I couldn't tell if it was good or not. It came with mashed potatoes & string beans. It annoyed me that the menu was written on paper on the wall, I had to keep turning my head to read it, I'm accustomed to menus given in the form of a book. Sadly, I left here hungry. read more

Something is definitely wrong..such highly rated place...I believe some worker is messing with the owner..I called asking to speak to the owner and some guy with a Spanish accent laughed at me and my friend ..He picks up the phone saying 'what you want' and then hangs up. ...I asked to have the owner call me bakc and no one has. .spoke to a man named Bogdan he took a message but owner never called back. ..Also I called twice today and both times the cleaning guy laughed at me and hung up ...saying that if I want to speak to the owner I need to come down there....so weird I'm buffled....All I wanted is to make reservation.for 10 people....geeee read more

We came early to get a table for 6 and it was worth it. Started with the two chowders (corn and seafood) and would definitely go with the latter. For appetizers we ordered the oysters and salmon which were both outstanding. The main courses at this place are all remarkable particularly the Thai Cod Curry and the Oysters in Dijon. The desserts are all superb and what's better it's got a funky romantic feel and is BYOB. By the way if you see this review and go this week, they are having the $25 Brooklyn Week special. read more

This restaurant has everything I expect from a French restaurant in this part of Brooklyn - hidden away, cozy atmosphere, great service (waitress was unreliably nice), excellent food. Even the portions exceeded my expectations - the plates were not small and we could have easily ordered less. Desert, while limited variety, was very good. I'd actually like to give 3.5 stars if I could. The restaurant is teeny-tiny, which is totally fine! We waited for about a half hour for a table at the bar next door. They called us when we were ready and were sat near the front. It was cool to be able to see inside the "kitchen". The hostess wasn't the friendliest person, and the waiter, not the most knowledgeable. Overall, the food was good. I had the scallops with a dijonaise sauce. My boyfriend thinks there was some kind of a wasabi flavor in it that I was not fond of, but it seemed to only be on one half of the plate, so I was pleased. We also had the seafood chowder and the fried oysters which were both very good. We brought a bottle of wine which they were happy to open for us (I don't believe their was a corkage fee) and poured for us whenever our glasses were low. (There is a liquor store right across the street.) They are cash only, which is kind of a pain. We appreciate BYOB -- with the cost of going out to dinner, especially if you're drinking, it's a nice little break. We'll go back for sure! read more

My girlfriend and I SO enjoyed our evening here. We had mussels and salmon, both fresh and delicious. The mustard crusted salmon was cooked perfectly and not overpowered by mustard seed, the fish spoke on its own and it spoke so well. I had high expectations for this place but frankly, the experience fell short. While the staff was friendly and place had a nice neighborhood vibe, the food was just eh? I had the seafood stew which really wasn't that hearty... but yes there was half a lobster, a few clams, and some shrimp... the liquid soup was probably only a third of the bowl. Highlights though were the fried oysters and the dipping sauce (olive oil, garlic, etc) for the bread. Low point was the non functional toliet. If you're in the area, check it out yourself.. otherwise, don't let somehow convince you to trek there from outside of Brooklyn.. not worth it. read more

As cute as this place is, I'm still not convinced it's worth the price. I ate here for the first time over a year ago for our staff Holiday Dinner and then returned last week while house-hunting in the area. the fried oysters were good enough and I had a yellowtail that was nicely grilled, but to shell out $100 in the end for no alcohol, two apps, two entrees and two meh desserts (something grainy in the rhubarb/strawberry tart and the crust was flavorless and weirdly textured) seemed a bit much. Is it cute? yes! Is the server nice? yes! (but did he need to go outside, smoke a cigarette, come back in, serve us our water with cigarette lingering smell on the glasses???). Perhaps pay more attention to reviews of folks who came on Friday nights, BYOBd and ate the right dishes - for now, I'm probably headed somewhere else. read more

Disclaimer:I visited this restaurant in 2010. It is a charming, quaint restaurant away from everything. I had the salmon paillard with capers and I enjoyed every bit of it. On the other hand, my date did not enjoy his curry cod that looked like soup. The place is VERY tiny and some may feel claustrophobic in this atmosphere, so you've been warned. I don't know what kind of people gave this place low ratings because Petite Crevette is shockingly ah-MAAAA-zing. Seriously. I am not often impressed with seafood restaurants in NYC so stumbling upon this spot in Brooklyn was such a pleasant surprise. EVERYTHING IS SO FREAKING DELICIOUS!!!! I had the crab corn chowder, fried oysters and salmon burger and my friend had the lobster with shrimp, mussels and scallops. Remarkable little French seafood restaurant in Carroll Gardens. Started with the crab corn chowder which was smooth, creamy and flavorful. It had a nice dollop of chunky crab meat placed in the center. For entrees we had the roasted bass and salmon paillard. The fish for both were very fresh and expertly cooked. I'm not much of a salmon lover but their's may have converted me. Not fishy at all with a nice char kept me picking off my date's plate. Mashed potato and grilled veggies came with the bass and were very good. It's BYOB (good thing) and cash only so come equipped. Two thumbs way up! read more

This place is super cute and a great deal with BYOB. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was wowed. The older gentleman waiters were incredibly kind, joking with us and showing us to a table by the windows. The menu is written on the walls and ceiling but because I have a habit of going blind instead of wearing my glasses our host kindly advised me what he thought were the best items on the menu (and were they!) Try the salmon. Glazed with mustard seeds, it is out of this world. My friend had the mussels which she seemed to like as well. The bread and the dip that accompany the meal are also fabulous. This place is great! The ambiance is fantastic, like a little neighborhood joint that's been around forever. Very romantic for a date. My boyfriend and I were definitely the youngest people there by a generation, but it was not weird. We went Memorial Day weekend (when all of NYC is out of town) so there was no wait, and service was attentive. BYOB is a plus. The food was really solid is not knock-your-socks off. Portions were definitely healthy. I mentioned to the waiter that scallops in the cioppino had kind of a metalic after-taste, and he comped us a delicious flourless chocolate cake. read more

I have eaten here a few times and I think it worth a review. I have had the seafood corn chowder, and I think they do a very good job. Nice amount of seafood and a nice cream flavor sweetened by the corn. The salads are fresh and the tomatoes do not have that hydro taste, actually they taste like a tomato. The salmon burger is fantastic, a good choice when feeling indecisive. I have had it several times and the best was when it was served on the bread that is from Mazzola bakery(that's what they said) and not the sesame bun. The last thing that I have had is the skate special in a lemon butter sauce. I would say that it was nicely prepared and the skate was not overpowered by the sauce, not sure if it warranted the 25$ MP that they seem to use as the blanket whole fish price since it's skate(inexpensive bottom feeding fish) !!!! read more

I was also here on Vday last night and I had a somewhat different experience than the previous reviewer, Nikita E. Maybe it is because I have worked in many a restaurant and I know what it is like to serve on Valentines Day, the busiest day of the year (and the day most of your coworkers & cooks are likely to call out sick and leave you weeded with pissed off customers). We took it in stride. Had a 9pm reservation. Was told that things were slow and customers were taking their time, and that we should go to his bar around the corner for a complimentary round of drinks. We complied and i also picked up a bottle of wine at the liqueur store. We had our round of drinks and then 45 minutes later walked back to the restaurant to check on the situation. I had a sneaking suspicion that this guy was so in the weeds with people wanting to sit down that he was just sitting the most angry of customers with reservations in no apparent order. But since it was obvious he had no hostess and was understaffed, I didn't mind. As soon as we walked in the door he said our table was just getting cleaned. We were then promptly seated (good thing we came back and didn't wait for a call). Again service was slow, but this is VALENTINES DAY. This has got to be expected wherever you go, and especially in such a tiny little non-corporate place. The atmosphere was amazing. Like being transported to the south of France. The food, OMG, just delicious. Every bite from the bread and oil to the final cherry tart was exquisite. We started eating at 10pm but that was ok with me. I already had a nice buzz and was ravenous (in a good way). We opted for the pre-fix ($38 for 3 courses) and for appetizer had the seafood soup and lox. For the main course we had the bouillabaisse and the spicy mixed seafood (both cioppino but one with a spicy sauce) and dessert was the tart. We must have been one of the last tables to get the Cioppino dish because both tables next to us wanted it and they were all out. In fact, by the time we were finishing up our meal and the other two tables were ordering, they were out of most things. It ended up working out perfect for us. We had a fabulous meal and left completely satisfied. I will 100% come back here again for a delicious seafood meal, I will just make sure to come on a slow weekday! :) read more

We haven't been to Petite Crevette for over two years and their quality seemed to be declining. We only had appetizer, Fried Oysters and Salmon Carpaccio, and didn't order main dish because the appetizers were so underwhelming. To be fair, Carpaccio was OK, but oysters were not flavorful and not even hot. There was only one server (owner?) working and it took him 10 min to bring us water. He left middle of our order and answered phone. Their fishes are OK. but they are nothing we can't cook at home. If you are kind of person who doesn't know how to cook a whole fish, by all mean, eat here and pay $20 for the fish. Slow service, OK food. Not sure why there are so many raving reviews. read more

Terrific and funky seafood place in a non-location. You may have trouble finding it since the door isn't on Union Street. Oh, make sure you bring cash. And since they don't have a liquor license you'll have to head over to Union or bring your own wine/beer or what-have-you. I have to admit being put off by the $5 corkage fee. I mean, if you bring your own you aren't exactly substituting for the restaurant's list, so why the fee? Did I mention? Don't forget cash--this is a cash-only establishment. read more

Love this place! Just went here this past weekend for a date night. Loving the fact that it's BYOB, we were able to eat out and have a bottle of our favorite yellowtail wine that we can hardly ever find at restaurants. The menu is a great combination of French/American, where someone who is more of a meat and potatoes type can have a burger or steak, and someone more like me can have scallops (which were amazing btw! I wanted to LICK MY PLATE). It is definitely a tiny place though, so try not to get there too late read more
