Decided to come here because of good reviews. No reservations. Waited at a bar on the corner. Paid 10 dollars for a glass of wine. 10 damn dollars!!!! The bar girl went around the corner and purchased more bottles of wine that cost no more than 15. Sat down to eat at 9. Didn't. Get appetizers till 945. Main entree didn't come til 1020. Do not get fried oysters. Nasty. Broth and actual mussels were very good. But not warm enough. I ordered mustard salmon for 20 dollars. The plate was covered in oil. They were busy. Place is tiny. The guy waiter was nice. The waitress kept fighting with him in front of all guests. Ru kidding me?!?! I wanted to tell him, please stay on this side. Don't listen to her because she kept telling him do u wanna be here alone?!? Not cool. My husband had skirt steak. OVERSALTED. don't get. Definitely not going back. Service was very pleasant, but dishes were all slow to come out. None of the dishes really had any flavor, my mashed potatoes and scallops were luke warm, and both our orders of the scallops has shell particles in them, none of the food was above average. Felt like I was in someone's very old dining room with "eclectic" decode. The only good dish was the seafood chowder, but everyone who got it had stomach issues after. Excellent Fish! Well prepared and seasoned with just the right amount of mashed and veggies as accompaniment . Loved the garlic infused oil and bread as well as the salad to start. My girlfriend had the Branzino--loved it and I had a meaty piece of Stripped Bass, now my new favorite fish. Great healthy flavorful meal, cant wait to return. Would have given 5 stars but for the waiter we had. He was deadpan and lackluster while the other waiters were engaging and informative. We dine here every week. this is our favorite dinner haunt in NYC (but we are biased as we do live around the corner). Their whole fish is divine- it reminds me of the seafood one can have in the Dalmatian coast.. The place is a unique, idiosyncratic ambiance that transports you to Europe. Somehow I've managed to not review this place for a long time. The place is small/intimate making it choice for particular occasions and not so great for others. Though the food is top notch. Everything from the bread you get while waiting to the meal itself it great. The food is simple in preparation, but it is consistently delicious. The skate I have the first time I went was likely the best fish I've ever had. Only thing I've had that wasn't as amazing was a Thai stew of some sort, albeit that may be par for the course in a place serving French food and not Thai. Petite Crevette is 2 small, cozy rooms with GREAT food. The menu is presented casually on chalk boards and fish/seafood is emphasized. French and Italian seem to permeate the choices but there is no stuffy snobbery. There is a hambuger and usually a carnivores' steak. Prices are not high - a scrumptious tuna burger, with fries and greens is $12. The fried oysters are stunning, served with greens. Where do the tasty tomatoes, year round, come from? Entrees run from $15-25. The BYOB policy is wonderful and Old Brooklyn Wines is right around the corner. Given the high quality/reasonable prices, combined with a small but comfy space, there can be a wait. Other diners are out there craving this food. The staff will take your cell phone # and call. The owner of PC, Neil, is not quite ... PC. He makes me laugh. He is jocular and engaging, on top of being a fine chef. If you think you are a star attraction because you are 6'8", if you dislike people older than you, stay home and eat boxed mac and cheese instead of low-balling this gem to a 3 star rating. If you decide to bring babies to dinner because they are your larvae and/or you cannot afford a baby sitter, be prepared to be an object of scorn. And be happy I was not there. Perhaps we could take up a collection for a baby sitter or birth control. A 1 star? Gerber gets a 5 star I bet. Disgruntalina post partum depression. Cozy, relaxed and romantic, but not private since you are so close to the other tables. A party of four is the maximum you should even consider. Decor quirky and fun. Service was very friendly, but the food was slow. Came on a Friday night at 8pm. Entrees came at 10pm. Food was simple, tasty, but not great. Scallops were unevenly cooked (big ones perfect, but the smaller ones were cooked too long and were chewy). Prices seemed a bit more Manhattan than Brooklyn, but the BYOB helped. I would recommend it to anyone in the neighborhood as a really nice place to go on a weeknight, but wouldn't recommend anyone travel for it. read more

This is a great place. Let's start with the food--it's delicious, fresh--and if you can get there during the week and Neil is cooking, so much the better. It's fun to crowd into the place with other neighborhood cognoscenti and although small, it's comfortable and friendly. If there's no immediate seats, go next door and have a drink...the Flying Lobster is part of the picture. I give it a wholehearted 4 STARS. This was one of my best restaurant experiences ever. And not only because of the food (which was very good) but because of the atmosphere that I have encountered there. I went to this place to celebrate my father's 75th birthday. The waitress was so attentive and so friendly and warm that after the dinner we felt like we became close friends, taking photos all together and chatting just about anything. My parents are really hard to satisfy when it comes to restaurants and when I told them that we are going to a very small but cozy place instead of fancy and posh one at first they weren't impressed. But as soon as they walked in and staff started taking care of them they were swept of their feet and at the end they told me that it was probably one of the best birthday celebrations ever. Everything is so fresh and cooked right in front of you if you sit in the older more 'relaxed' section, which I always do. BYOB is a major plus. Had a great meal here the other day, went early so got a table quickly. The fish was so fresh, was thoroughly impressed by the food across the board. Will be going back here regularly, love this little pocket of Brooklyn too, couple good spots to grab a drink at before or after close-by. to say i really like this charming place would be an understatement. the decor was eclectic, simpatico and amusing. we were fortunate to be sitting next to the windows and discussed at some length the way the light hit the windows of the building across the street, which in turn reflected golden beams of sunlight onto the mirrors on the wall of the restaurant, which in turn bathed the lovely senorita l. in a rosy glow. we also had a silly discussion about a strange but amusing statue in the room, of a nude woman. her head was disproportionately small; her facial features were rudimentary in contrast to the rendering of her torso. what amused us most though, was the elaborate and peculiarly stylized depiction of her pubic hair. it is a petite place, perhaps a bit too petite if one has claustrophobic inclinations. i wonder if the name of the restaurant is ironically redundant as it is in english. the server was a wonderful character. she had a kindness and joie de vivre about her, that contributed to the rosy glow and bon ami ambiance. briana m. was kind enough to go out and buy a fine malbec that was perfect with our meal. imagine my surprise when i ordered the thai curry cod, and it was as fabulous as mr. unlucky's secret soup surprise! i guess great minds think alike. the cod had a perfect texture and each bite of gingery, coconut rich, brothy morsel was savored. read more

the fourth star is really for the crab and corn chowder. i love a chowder and this was some excellent, delicious, flavorful stuff. perfect for a rainy, chilly saturday night. big portion, 8 bucks, bravo. i have always sorta avoided this place because i thought bouillabaise was overpriced and annabelle's was the worst ever. but the crab and corn chowder is definitely worth a visit. my dining companion had seafood chowder which was also fantastic. i had the curry cod over mashed potatoes and vegetables and it was good enough but sorta boring and not worth the 20 buck price tag. i'm always bummed when i order something that tastes like something i could have made at home. the service was spotty, even though the place is tiiiiny and we were seated in the front less than 3 feet from the staff. but the service was friendly, up until we got our bill and saw the double corkage fee for our two bottles of wine. okay, the first one i can understand......they opened our prosecco and gave us some glasses. but the second bottle went ignored by them, opened by us and we never even got clean glasses. sneaky. annoying. overall, i'd go for soup at lunchtime on a drizzly day. i was generally underwhelmed. read more

Having worked in restaurants for 15 years, nothing bothers me more than reading whiny complaints from yelp reviewers, giving great restaurants 1-2 stars because the bathroom was out of toilet paper, or the server didn't smile enough.... With that said, I am giving this restaurant 1 star because I called at 1pm and made a reservation for 4 people at 8:30. We arrived at 8:30 and the SAME guy greeted us and said it would be a 20 minute wait and I informed him that I had called earlier and made a reservation and he immediately said "we don't make reservations, we never have and we haven't in 35 years", my reaction was to laugh because I figured he just had dry-sarcastic humor, but he was completely serious, I started thinking to myself "AM I TAKING CRAZY PILLS!?"... Then he said it will be 35 minutes if you want to wait, so how did the wait increase 15 minutes in that short conversation!? I am very disappointed because the food looked so good and smelled amazing, but out of principle it's going to take me a while to even think about going back. A new favorite. The kind of unassuming, charming and cozy restaurants that can only happen in Brooklyn. The menu is small and 95% seafood (the other 5% for that fish-hating or vegan friend in the party). Everything is simple but perfectly prepared, the seafood is super fresh and great quality. Fried oysters were some of the best I've tried, lighter crispy batter and juicy, flavorful oysters. Thai Cod Curry is great, the fish stock for it is made daily and the seasonings are just right. Sockey Alascan salmon with mustard seeds is perfectly prepared - translucent pink in the middle. I ordered a special of skate which was buttery and decandent. All the sides are garlic mashed potatoes and string beans, French style, simple and satisfying. Even the chocolate homemade cake for desert, rich and room temperature - a welcome break from the tired molten chocolate tart - is delicious (although it's rather hard to save room for it). read more

somehow, my better half stumbled upon a place called, "Petite Crevette". i don't know how she found this place, but it's worth visiting! located at 144 Hicks St., between Union St. & President St. in the front room (where the host said to Dee, "two? please follow me...." he went to the left and she almost sat down" =x ) there's a showcase of the fresh catch of the day... a well lit room comfy for few.... we didn't realize that there was a cozy room on the back. it was a slow wednesday night, so we were seated in the back room which is SUPER cozy, romantically lit and made me feel like i was in the countryside, far away from my everyday troubles and concerns.....little candles were scattered on every other table, everything is dark wood or painted white, with a few interesting antique furniture pieces, giving it that nice lived-in relaxed feeling.... the menu is written on butcher paper hung on the walls so you can see the list from every angle.... there's a list of specials (catch of the day prepared a few ways room is a bit colder and more brightly lit, so if you can try to get into the back room, which used to be "rose's flower shop"...the old gold lettering is still on the window, giving it a vintage feel. we started with the crab corn chowder and were served a HUGE bowl lumps of crab! this bowl was loaded with chunks of sweet crab meat, lots of kernels of juicy corn in a creamy base... then i chose the tuna burger....med rare! VERY GOOD IT WAS!!! she chose the cioppino....this dish carries a succulent 1/2 lobster (like if it were from maine...), about 5-6 decent sized shrimps, 8-10 juicy mussels, and melt in your mouth bite sized scallops! the servings are just right... when we were done with dinner, the host kindly asked us if we had wished for desert.... we had a choice of apple, peach, or cranberry tarts, not to mention they have a chocolate desert, "flourless chocolate cake" that we have yet to try! we enjoyed dinner the tonight at Petite Crevette.... note : closed mondays cash only read more

We had a great private lunch with Chef Neil yesterday. It was such a delightful experience to be served by and eat with the chef. It's always best to take the chef's recommendations, so we put ourselves into his hands. We started with fresh scallops, mixed greens with tomatoes and fresh mozarella plus some sauteed mushrooms. All were fantastic - the scallops though were probably the most tender that I've ever had. Not even a hint of chewiness. For the entree we had the tuna - a massive, perfectly cooked succulent filet with mashed potatoes and winter vegetables. Divine. The filet wasn't seasoned, just broiled and the flavor was perfect in it's simplicity. We brought our own west coast Pinot but Neil brought out a bottle of Zin, and also a great Grappa. I'm not really a grappa fan, but his was a bit sweeter and slightly less astringent than I'm accustomed too. For desert - a chocolate mousse that Evan J. would have appreciated - rich, not too heavy, with some chocolate chunks to give it some additional texture. What a perfect meal. So I can honestly say that tonight I had the worst dining experience I can ever recall in my 15 years of living in NYC. It was a very big night . . . Meeting my partner's father for the first time, and we decided to dine locally at Petite Crevette. After waiting for 30 minutes in the adjacent bar ( great live jazz band, by the way), we were given a table and had a delicious meal, great conversation, lovely time and then it was ruined. We had barely finished our entrees when the waiter slapped the bill on our table. We were really surprised because we were planning on dessert and coffee. When we questioned the waiter about dessert, he lied and said they don't offer dessert at this place. I pointed out that this was very interesting because as we were dining I noticed the tables around us enjoying dessert. We were shocked and the waiter then said, "oh they didn't tell you that a big party was coming and we need the table?" The look of surprise and disgust on our face at the waiter's blatant lie and rudeness was obvious, and the waiter said to my partner, "Don't give me that look." He then said we have something for you. The chef threw a small piece of cake in a to-go tin and we were basically booted out. I have never been treated like this in a restaurant. I really am surprised and disappointed since I really love the food there. The server ruined a great night and Petite Crevette has lost a customer! read more

A local fish BYO has so much to offer, but I feel Petite Crevette falls short. On the plus side - it's BYO and they're typically able to seat tables pretty quickly. On the negative side, the fish we've had on the 3 occasions we've been (tuna, cioppino, scallops) only been so-so and the tables are really cramped together. read more

WOW - worst service I have ever had- terrible. Blonde server whose name I forgot- was so chatty we could barely talk to each other while we were eating. She told us her life story- had a sort of rehearsed comedy routine that was really annoying, overall was obnoxious, never brought our apps we ordered, forgot our drinks, another server nearby saw and tried to help but this woman was sort of rude to her when she saw her trying to save our evening from sucking. ANYWAY- The food was good but slow, and the atmosphere was adorable but not worth the bad service. Second time I have had a bad experience here based on the server. read more
