I have nothing but great things to say! We hired Petite Sweets Detroit to create our dessert table, wedding cake and donut wall on our wedding day 2 years ago and it was a great hit. I was so excited to see Denetia open up shot in Detroit and will most definitely be a regular.

probably closer to a 4.5. If I were going to get diabetes, I would want it to be because of this…read moreplace. I am such a sucker for dessert spots, and this place seems to do everything right. From their cakes and cookies, to their parfaits and macaroons, everything just hits. On a most recent visit, I tried their biscoff parfait and it was a show stopper. It was hard for me to enjoy my Matilda chocolate cake (though I managed) knowing that I had more biscoff parfait to eat. They do coffee and other assorted beverages as well, but those are just support for the real stars of the show here, their desserts. I cannot say one bad thing I have had here (though a friend of mine says their cinnamon rolls were underwhelming). OVERALL - a great ending to an evening, or a destination unto itself. Get some, now! Stopped into For the Love of Sugar after dinner and tried the seasonal s'mores cake and an iced…read morematcha latte. Service was friendly, welcoming, and efficient, which I appreciated. The cake looked great and had the graham (I might have imagined it), marshmallow, and chocolate flavor elements in each bite, but it ran a bit dry and sweeter than I prefer. I'm in the "less sugar is more" minority, so most people might be fine with it. I guess I should have expected it given the name. The iced matcha latte used decent matcha and tasted light and pleasant, no grit. Inside, it is all pastels and cake themed accents, with the general vibe of "yeah, there are macarons here." The real plus is being near Little Caesars Arena in the newer development area, which makes it convenient for grabbing a treat and a drink while downtown.

Between the caramel apple cheesecake, double chocolate torte, chocolate Cannoli, Blueberry Bread Pudding with Rum, Strawberry Cronut, Chocolate Pistachio Baklava, Caramel Apple Bar, Caramel Cake, Butter almond cookie, and the lemon bar. We are in heaven with these pastries and will always go every time we are in town. The shop also has old fashioned "take a number" waiting which is a great way to manage a busy store. Everyone was lively and happy to wait for their yummy desserts. Overall 10* if that was a possible rating. You will not be disappointed with whatever you get there. Its moist, flavorful, and leaves you wanting more. Definitely try them out!

The pricing was very reasonable for what was being offered, and the staff was friendly too. I had their baklava. This was unbelievable. I have not had as much baklava as other desserts, but this was just unreal. There was a ton of cinnamon present, and it went perfectly with the honey aspect (believe it was honey anyway). The flaky pastry crust made it that more enjoyable. I was thinking of going back to get it again! Will I go back? Obvious.

I had dinner with my parents at Alpino last week, and we had a great meal. Alpino is an Alpine (as…read morein of the Alps) restaurant, so you can find nods to Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, and France on their menu and on their wine list. When you walk in, you get the Alpine vibes right away - carved wood, wood beams, a fireplace... It's beautiful but very comfortable. My mom is vegan, and Alpino's menu had several veganizable options for her (marked on the menu). She had a veganized chicory salad (bitter greens, golden apple, Comté cheese, pecan, and juniper maple citronette - they removed the cheese) and a veganized rösti (Swiss potato pancake, smoked salmon, crème fraîche, and mustard greens - they removed the smoked salmon and crème fraîche). My stepdad and I shared their carne salada (house-cured wagyu beef, crispy potatoes, rafano, and herbs, which was great. He enjoyed their chicken goulasch (Amich chicken thigh, paprika and tomato gravy, spätzle, and crème fraîche), while I fell in love with their Wienerschnitzel (breaded veal cutlet, morel rahmsauce, and pickled mustard seeds). Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert, because the food overall was great. Since my parents don't drink, I had a designated driver and so was determined to order a lot of their great wine. I had one glass of orange wine from Krasno in Slovenia and then two glasses of Grüner Veltliner from the Franz Etz estate in Austria. Their wine list is part of what makes a meal at Alpino such a treat. On top of great food, great wine, and great ambiance, the service was also great. Our server was Leonardo/Leo, who was attentive, friendly, and very helpful. The wonderful service helped make this a five-star meal for us. If I lived in Detroit, I'd be at Alpino once a month. It was a great meal. Great food, great vibes, great wine, great service. I used the word great a lot in this review, but it was just .... great! I'd love to return.

Loved the panna cotta too :) We hosted a private event for 15 people downstairs and Rebecca was incredible to work with from start to finish. She handled everything smoothly, made sure we were comfortable, and the service was top-notch. Food came out on time and tasted great too. Also chatted with David the owner; seems like a really hands-on guy and you could tell he really cares about the food, experience and his guests. If you're looking for a great spot to eat and/or to host a small gathering with great food + great people, this is it. Highly recommend!
