We weren't sure what to expect, as we are new to dog training. We scheduled an initial appointment for private in-home training that was $150 and was listed to be up to an hour and a half. Following the payment, we received an email with the trainer's availability and requested a time within it. We then had to go back and forth to find a time that worked for the trainer. It would have been much more helpful to just receive a list of dates/times that were still available instead of just a general schedule for booking. Again, we weren't sure what to expect but got up bright and early for an 8:00am session in our home the morning after Thanksgiving. The trainer was 8 minutes late. I know that isn't a huge amount of time, but it was our first meeting and we were ready on time and waiting. We received some helpful tips on how to start working on the main concerns we had with our dog, but felt like we didn't receive clear instruction on what to do if the dog didn't do the command, etc. We contemplated booking more sessions, but ultimately decided against it for the amount of money we paid vs the information we received. Maybe dog training just isn't for us. Maybe we just didn't mesh with the trainer. This was our experience.

Jeff to the rescue!…read more We have two Jack Russell Terriers and they are a happy handful!!! We have had previous training with some good, but mostly lackluster results. We worked with Jeff for one session and he trained us to be the pack leader in a way where the dogs understood and accepted it. Now instead of rushing the door and being all crazed, it's calm, even when the doorbell rings. They look to us for direction instead of trying to 'protect' us from what's on the other side of the door. We wish we had found Jeff years ago! But you can teach a not-so-young dog new tricks! Then she took them one by one and offered suggestions for how to deal with each issue, also explaining relevant issues about a dog's innate (and learned) behavior. She also gave us a copy of a book she just published, her third. I had heard wonderful things about her, and now that I've met her, I can say there is probably no one in Tucson with more experience with dog training and animal behavior. She had a calm, low key presence and I am most anxious to start using her training techniques. One of the most reassuring things is that she was very clear that he is not a bad dog; he is just a dog. As the humans we have to take responsibility for letting him know what is acceptable and what isn't. And Karyn has given us the tools to know how to do that. I didn't know what they meant at the moment I'm and after some back and forth figured out that because of my comment they don't think I'm open to their feedback. Never said I wasn't open to feedback. What I said was that I didn't feel like a valued customer because my dog doesn't go frequently. And this last conversation confirmed it even more.

The first day of class I almost cried because my dogs behavior was so bad! He was reactive, anxious and could not be around dogs, strangers or new things. When we started Hallie reassured me that he will be able to at least tolerate the things he struggled with. She made it clear she cannot magically fix his issues but she is confident that he will be able to tolerate strangers, noises and other dogs. I took all three classes with Hallie beginning, intermediate and advanced. My doggie has COMPLETELY changed he is able to tolerate a lot of things he couldn't before.
