From our first phone call to set up an appointment for our little Chihuahua (which suffers from seizures), I knew we were going to have a good experience. Vet was thorough and answered all of our questions and staff was kind and gentle with our precious pup. We asked office staff to request our records from our previous vet (as we have two additional small dogs), and they were able to do that. The facility was very clean and seemed to be run with calm and confident "vibes." SO DISAPPOINTED, My cat has had a UTI for over a month now. I called to ask why I got no follow up and they said they emailed me. But no call because they are so busy that this is how they contact. After paying for the visit and labs being over $200 and now they want $45 for the medication. So my cat has been sick for over a month. I thought no call was good news but I had to call and find out an email was sent and was told they could tell I had not opened the email. So WHY didn't they call me! I did express my disappointment to the office manager and she was fast talking and offered nothing when I asked if I could get the medicine now and pay on Friday (in 3 days) but with a quick answer no or even a discount. I did let her know not to contact moving forward using email. I wish I could get my money back at least for the labs or free medicine because this negligence on their part too. read more

Been taking my dogs here for a couple of years, after this last visit, will be looking for a new vet. Everything was great until my last visit. Took her in for yearly vaccinations and well-check. During the visit, the vet kept bringing up blood work and heartworm testing/treatment. I told her I was JUST getting vaccs and well-check, "today". We continued addressing her food/eating issues. She AGAIN brought up doing blood work and heartworm testing/treatment. I AGAIN, told her NOT today. This women LITERALLY stopped talking and said, "OK" and walked right tf out. I called Ajo Vet's and they were able to squeeze me in that same morning! I had tried a couple of other vets in the area but due to covid everything was by appt only. I was so pressed for time & they were not only sweet and informative but they got everything done promptly. The cost was reasonable I think. paid $75. Worst service ever. Don't go here if you love your pups! The "vet" is neglectful and doesn't know how to handle pets. As soon as she walked into the room she had her hands up and accused my dog of trying to bite people. The nurse that came in before her was petting my dog and weighed him with no problems but suddenly she comes in as if my dog attacked her. We adopted Maxx from the Pima Animal Shelter and he came with a free check up to a vet of our choice from the list provided--I went down to the Ajo Clinic due to it's location. I was really happy with the staff-each and every person there was helpful and genuinely interested in Maxx. Some clinics I've been to in the past treat the animals like patients. Here I felt like we were family- everyone played with Maxx and gave him lots of attention, and even those in the waiting room were chatting and friendly with the animals. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, PLEASE, AT LEAST READ EYE OPENER (Bottom) I recently took my 5 month old puppy named Pepper in to Ajo vet clinic after she had been vomiting and not wanting to eat. I had called a few places but they were appointment only and I was advised 24hour hospitals were very expensive. First thing first, front desk lady was super nice, friendly, excellent customer service, over phone and during walk in. When I called Ajo I was advised I would be charged $98 for "walk in fee" which, with this being my first vet experience, and the fact my puppy needed help that day I was okay with. First thing done by vet tech (helpful male) was to take temperature (no temp), I advised the tech that I had been out of town, left puppy with my sis for 2 days and believe she was dehydrated, specially after knowing she didn't have a fever. My puppy was then tested for parvo ($55), result negative. She was also tested for a specific bacteria (leptospirosis - $40), also negative. I really wanted to get my puppy on IV fluids because I knew she had been vomiting but we had to wait for test results. When the vet came in and examined Pepper she suggested we did xrays, she advised me that being a puppy she might have eaten a sock or toy that would be obstructing and causing the vomit. This made sense. I accepted. First thing vet said when looking at xray "well it looks about 80% clear" meaning 80% chance obstruction was not an issue, she then suggested I leave pepper for more IV fluids and anti vomit so we could see how she did, I accepted. The charges for overnight stay were accurately provided beforehand (only good thing about this place other than friendly staff). I ended up paying $650 TOTAL (walk-in fee, xray, exams, overnight stay with IV and anti vomit injections). ***EYE OPENER COMING....*** The following day I receive a call from vet. She tells me Pepper is looking better, but had vomited the previous night. ***She offered a 2nd xray (I had just payed for one the day before) and to then open her up (Over $1k), in case there was a string or something that wasn't obvious on xray. *** If that is the case, why are you wanting a 2nd xray!!!? I told her I had maxed out my credit card and would need to take my puppy to another vet, she then suggested CareCredit or EUTHANASIA. I even have pictures from vet notes. I took my puppy to a recommended vet, when I hot there Pepper had a fever (which told me Ajo had not been monitoring her temp), ran blood test figured my dog was fighting a virus based on her white blood cell count (she might have picked up at Ajo). My dog DID NOT need to be opened up, this vet wanted to do unnecessary (2nd xray), costly and painful procedures (surgery) while my puppy's immune system was already weak. Second vet used IV and immune system shots to keep my puppy hydrated as she fought off virus. Pepper is all good now. read more

The worst place to take your pet (family member). I took in my dog to get his cough evaluated and a regular check up, paid more than 450 dollars for the evaluation and xrays. They told me test results were going to be provided the following day... 4 days passed and no one from Ajo Veterinary Clinic followed up with me. So, I took my dog and went in for the test results, the vet doctor started to reevaluate my dog and the doctor explained that his eye was comprised with valley fever, and suggested to remove his eye... I told her before suggesting surgery, I would need to see the lab reports. The doctor disregarded my request and continued to promote surgery... BTW, the Ajo Veterinary Clinic charged me to get my test results that I had already paid. When i declined to pay, they sent me off to collections... Our pet is doing better after taking him to another clinic, where they actually cared for our pet. Ajo Veterinary Clinic takes Advantage of peoples' emotional state and their beloved pets. And in the process of their greed, they actually harm defenseless animals just to make buck. read more

This place is absolutely perturbing. My Giant schnauzer puppy was no doubt handled inhumanely and unprofessionally. He was sedated by 4 different drugs without my consent. Inran from the front to the back where i heard him whaling and screeching and convulsing on a back room floor uncaged around lots of dangerous objects he could have been hurt even more. I recorded everything that was going on as well as my interrogation with the vet. I called my primary vet in California and discussed all that had been induced. He was very upset and told me and the vet what should be done next. My bill only through courtesy i paid for the exam and meds... no way in hell did i pay for any treatment, sedation or holding there after. I have awfully disturbing videos. read more

It has taken me a long time to write this review. I have needed a few months to come down after my fury. I will start from the beginning. I got my second dog, penny, in April of this year. I got her from puppy place,which needs a review all of its own. I will avoid my personal thoughts on that business in this review. my boyfriend and I moved to Tucson 1 1/2 years ago. Back in New Hampshire we had a great local veterinarian. I had not needed to bring my first dog to the vet before this experience. when purchasing an animal from puppy place, you get one free vet visit for the puppy at one of their listed vet clinics.we chose Ajo because of its location and hours. during this visit we saw Dr Porter. Our puppy was only 12 weeks old. She looked at her and guessed that this puppy was a Greyhound mix. she had told us during our visit that her skin and fur looked worrysome. She warned us, that because she had very thin and short hair, to watch her closely for any changes in condition. It "may be nothing" but we were urged to keep our eye on her. Three weeks later, we brought her in again because, her fur seemes to be even thinner. This time we saw Dr. Jesyk (sp?). The night prior, our other dog spring a very large lump on her chest, so we brought her along to get her checked out. Dr. Jesyk was not like Dr. Porter. He was very rude from the moment he walked into the room. My dogs barked at him when he walked in. (They were obviously both distressed with the situation and their conditions). His first words were "do they bite" and "keep them away from me while I am not examining them" First he saw Penny, the puppy. He told me that there was absaloutly nothing wrong with her, but she was "malnourished" therefore has excess shedding. He said I should be feeding my 15# puppy 4+ cups of food per day. I disagreed but aknowledged his advice. Next he saw Emma, our 2 year old dog. When he put her on the table he gasped at her lump. Before he regarded it further he turned to me (cornered in the small office) and said "ma'am, do you kick your dog?" This was absurd considering I rushed her into the vet for diagnoses. When I replied "no" he snapped at me saying "this dog was either kicked, hit by a car, fell down the stairs, or hit with a bat." All of these allegations were ridiculous and impossible. She was in the care and constant eye of myself and my boyfriend. When I said that he questioned my trust in my boyfriend and asked if he would "kick the dog while I wasn't looking" that did not happen. Dr. Jesyk refused ti look forward into the issue. He did not look further, and did not try any tests. Before I left he reitterated that my dogs were "malnourished and beaten" and suggested I "start taking better care of my animals" Remember, the reason we were there in the first place was because Dr. Porter had suspicions of a skin problem. When I said that again he told me "she does not know what she is talking about" and listed all of the award that he has been given, that she had not. I left that day with 2 dog (same condition as when they came) and a $200 bill for his "analysis." 6 weeks ago, I brought Emma to Valley animal hospital for another opinion because, although her lumo had gone down, she now had NO fur, sores all over her body, and could barely walk. Penny still had thin fur but did not have as many other symptoms. She was seen immediately and tested. She got 5 skin scrapings, bacterial tests, and afull physical exam without question. After 2 weeks of testing we found out that Emma had contracted SCABIES an extremely severe skin condition from our new puppy. The skin condition Dr. JESYK said was me poorly treating my dog. After hundreds of dollars in medication and weeks of recovery, they are BOTH in perfect health. If Ajo vet clinic, Dr. Jesyk specifically took more time, effort, and care into treating my dogs, they would not have had to suffer for so long. And if course, when contacting Ajo Vet Clinic prior to my experience Dr.Jesyk denied all statements and once again reminded me of his degree, awards, and experience and said that I "misunderstood" his diagnoses. I took my dog in to Ajo Vet Clinic on a Monday morning (9:30am) as an emergency case. He had been attacked by a pit bull who had entered my yard by squeezing through the wrought iron fence. My dog had a deep hole near his eye and his ears had been bitten. My other dogs tried in vain to stave off the pit bull but I had to physically remove it. When I arrived at the clinic, to my surprise, the same pit bull was in the waiting room. I explained the situation to the receptionist, and they quickly took my dog to the back. I then went to work but called a couple of hours later to see how he was doing. I was told it was a busy day and he had not been seen yet. I called a couple hours after and i was put on hold. Again, I was told he had not been seen yet. At 4:30pm, I went to the clinic only to find out HE STILL HAD NOT BEEN SEEN YET. A large woman/nurse/vet came out and said they had been extremely busy and had not had time to treat my dog but would do so now. Five minutes later they brought out my dog which had been shaved quickly near the hole and not much else. They gave me some meds for him. They then proceeded to charge me almost $300 for this. When i got him home, he went straight to his water bowl and DRANK WATER FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES STRAIGHT. It dawned on me that they not only did not treat my dog right away but had not given him any water/food all day. The hole near his eye became infected before the end of the week. I had to take him back on Saturday for a proper cleaning by another Ajo Way Vet who did a better job. They wanted to charge another $50 for the Saturday visit, but I complained about the shoddy treatment my dog had received the previous Monday and they lowered the charge to $20. By the way, the pit bull who attacked my dog was seen right away on that Monday and was doing fine (I asked the receptionist). She also told me he was the nicest dog she had ever seen. This incident occurred in March 2013. I have not returned to Ajo Way Vet since. I refuse to take any of my dogs back to Ajo Way Vet. I have found another Vet since then. read more

I have heard both positive and negative reviews both online and in-person from folks in regards to this clinic. My parents took their pets here for years, never a problem. Dr. Porter has been here FOREVER! We recently adopted a terrier mix from the Pima County Animal Control Center and took her for her free visit at this location. We did have to wait over an hour past our scheduled appointment time (not sure why, never got a straight response) and there were a ton of pit bulls around the waiting area. We were overall happy with our visit, Dr. Porter was helpful, kind, passionate and knowledgeable as always. Will go back again as our neighborhood vet. read more

I hate leaving places bad reviews, but here it goes. We gave this place 2 tries. The first time my sister took our cat and they made her wait 2 hours before calling her back to the rooms. I understand sometimes offices get backed up, which is fine. The second time, I took my cat because I was starting to get concerned that she wasn't spayed although when I adopted her, I was told she was. I took her in and again had to wait for a good 2 hours. I'm a first time pet owner so you can imagine I'm very ignorant about some things. I had an exam scheduled for her, which prob took the vet 30 seconds to complete. I was really concerned about the fact that my cat kept going into heat even though she was spayed. The vet didn't even bother looking for a surgery scar. She just said that it sounds like some tissue was left behind during the procedure. I had no proof of her being spayed either. I know that you have to look for a scar because later I took her to another vet and they told me she wasn't spayed. They couldn't find a scar. To me this seems like something simple the vet could've checked for but didn't. Anyways, now she's spayed and it's all good. read more

Super Rude front desk staff!!! This place has given me the worst customer experience Again! The first time was a few years ago. I had an appointment for a free exam with a pet I adopted at pacc.I waited over 2 hours in the lobby and although it was busy, my pet was never seen, and not one person there acknowledged me, or said they would be with me shortly. I asked them if they forgot about me and they rudely said they had an emergency come in and I would have to wait. No apology, no offer to reschedule, so I waited another 1/2 hour and then left. Then, this past Saturday I had an extreme emergency. My cat was super sick and I thought she was dying. I tried to call them during their business hours, for over an hour and the call kept routing to animal emergency. I decided to take my cat to the emergency place but since Ajo Vet was on my way I thought I would stop by and ask if they could see my cat. The lady at the desk looked at me like I was crazy, and instead of asking what was wrong with the cat , she went right to how much it would cost me, and because its an emergency they would have to "work" me into their busy schedule in between appointments. There was no one in the waiting room and only 2 cars in the parking lot, and I never even asked about the cost. This place has never given me a warm welcome feeling of genuine caring and concern, and I cannot honestly recommend them or their services to anyone. I am so glad I took my cat to emergency and not here and I will never try coming here again. read more

Would highly recommend staying away from this vet. Our doctor was Dr Jesyk, who has been mentioned in a previous, awful review. The techs take all notes on napkins instead of having legitimate charts on them. I took my 8 week old kitten in because she was peeing blood. Dr Jesyk examined her and told me it was because of stress. We asked about the possibility of a UTI because of things we had read online and he said "there is only a 10%, No, let's up it to 20% chance It is a UTI. It's very rare in kittens." He felt her bladder and said it felt full so he attempted a urine analysis. He came back in the room and said he couldn't get any urine out of her and sent us home with some litter that wouldn't absorb her urine. Unsatisfied, we immediately called Four Paws veterinary clinic who said her symptoms sounded like a UTI so we took her there. Four Paws kept her overnight until they could get a urine sample and then called to advise me that my kitten had indeed tested positive for a UTI and also had crystals in her bladder. All treatment included at Four Paws cost less than what Ajo Veterinary Clinic was quoting us for just the urine analysis. For charging that much, you would think they were educated enough to give competent advise and supply paper. read more

I have an almost 4yr old husky and went to this vet after a bad experience with another clinic. Based off my last experience, I'm sad to say I will not be returning. My husky has irregular heat cycles. And after some other symptoms I decided to take her in. After describing that my pup was eating well, drinking water like normal, using the bathroom like normal, but was having a long heat cycle and seemed lethargic the veterinarian said it could be an infection in her uterus and could need emergency surgery. Of course she recommended X-rays, blood sample for the lab, and some other tests which ended up costing $450. The price isn't so much the problem, especially when it turned out there were no issues and my dog is completely fine. My issue is the front desk staff who made me wait for an eternity for my dog while I was obviously an emotional wreck. The. The tech who came out and said the vet needed to speak with me first about the X-rays. And then the vet, who gave a five minute speech having me in a panic that my dog was very ill, just to tell me there were no issues. That in itself was completely unprofessional, played with my emotions, and was unnecessary. Rather than start by telling me everything was okay, she decided to drag out everything and create unnecessary suspense that had me almost in tears. read more

I have taken my own dogs and foster dogs to Dr. Jezyek for about 5 years now. His approach is always no nonsense. He tells you your options and what will be the likely outcome of each option. He is definitely an advocate for pets. He cares deeply about them. I was worried to take a couple of my dogs there at first because they did not respond well to men. It also took forever to get in and out although my pet had a minor ailment and I was very unhappy to have them try to sell me a bunch of products that are available over the counter for an increased price. The worst, though, was the vet wanted to do some exotic, very expensive diagnosis without doing basic veterinarian medicine (e.g. cbc or simple blood work). Having many animals all my life and seeing hundreds of vets, I have observed a variety of skilled vets. I won't be returning here. read more

We have been going to Ajo Vet since 2007, when we moved to Tucson. We have had nothing but excellent experiences and our dogs have all been well treated. The cost of the vet care is reasonable. The vets are all very experienced. My wife is extremely knowledgeable about dogs and many times already has any problems 'pre-diagnosed." The vets seem to like that my wife knows so much and they do not mind that she asks a lot of detailed questions. Over the years, we have had a total of eight dogs since moving to Tucson. No, not eight at once. Since the five we had when first moving here were all seniors, our vet visits were very frequent and spent a lot of money. We found Ajo Vets' care and pricing to be excellent and reasonable. read more
