the last honest auto mechanic shop…read more.. look no further than econo auto service for all your mechanical needs! my wife is a traveling photographer and was recently sent to eugene for work (we live in central oregon). her car made it safely there, but the next day, she heard a "pop" and it wouldn't go into gear. yikes! what do you do when you're in a city far from home and your car needs repair? imagine the panic. as luck would have it, i came across david at econo auto service. i called him and explained both the situation, and my fear. he immediately put me at ease. he recommended a tow company, and took my wife's car in for evaluation, diagnosed it within hours (bad master/slave clutch cylinders--a repair we had attempted to do ourselves last year), and had it repaired in less than two days. we knew that the starter was on it's way out, which noticed and suggested replacement during the other work because he didn't want my wife to be stranded somewhere. he explained everything in plain terms, didn't make either of us feel stupid for not knowing more about our car, allayed fears with constant communication and patience. the work was superb. and even tho he could have easily gouged "an out of towner" his rates were both reasonable and fair. my wife drove home safely without any further issues. we got lucky. you can too! call econo auto service and know that you can trust them with your repair.

Later they attempted to charge me for a very expensive repair that was very likely still under warranty from a much earlier repair. They said the mechanic "just knew" this repair was needed, but denied it was related to the older repair. They then told me the documents for the earlier repair were not in my glove box and that they could not access old records bc their system had changed. After several days wait, they called to tell me I could come get the car. No mention of that urgent and expensive repair was made and my documents were not returned. Not taking any chances, I dropped by and asked what the problem was. $45 later, i was told my car needed an oil change. That was for "diagnosis" only. Initially my experience was great. They fixed a couple things another shop flubbed, and I thought I had found my home. As things went on i got the growing impression that they have zero interest in saving their customers money, charging me by the book on literally everything when I knew the job wasn't necessarily taking that much time. Again, exorbitant labor rates. I proceeded, and then i discovered that on the oil change they did for me, they overfilled my crankcase by at LEAST a quart. When I tried to get them to acknowledge this and make sure no harm had occurred because of their error (being very patient and kind in my communication) they got super defensive about it. This was the last straw for me. I didn't want to write this review, but as I search for a shop and have to make hard choices, I think it's important that the service providers of the Eugene area understand that enthusiasts will go to whatever lengths necessary to take their business to shops that are committed to excellent service and not fleecing their customers.

I brought my car to Alex, and in record time he was not only able to locate the source of the issue, he fixed it! He even fit the work in last-minute as I was headed out of town the following day. Alex may be a German car specialist, but believe me when I say this guy just knows cars in general inside & out. He was smart, polite, efficient, and I would absolutely use his services in the future.
