I've been to Petra multiple times and I've always enjoyed it. The ambiance is nice, not too loud, parking is relatively easy for its Belltown location, and the food is great. But more than anything, they have the BEST HUMMUS in town. Hands down, the best I've ever had. It is by far and large my favorite hummus. Couldn't say if the food was good or bad. Couldn't get a seat with 4-5 tables open because they didn't want to combine them for 4 adults and 2 kids. They said 8 people were required. Petra is so good, you get coaxed into the door by the incredible aroma at the street. Yum! Petra has impressed me with reasonable prices (I go at lunch time) and unbelievably flavorful food. It's a hit every single time. Highly recommend Petra Chicken Salad -- it's grilled chicken breast on a bed of lettuce with a garlicky dressing and lemon wedges. OMG. I've been obsessing over this to figure out how they do it so I could maybe wow my family at home. Similarly, the Garlic Lemon Chicken is virtually the same meat, this time on a bed of flavorful rice. High marks also for the Lamb Shawarma. Decor is interesting -- it's 8 or 9 blown up photos of the exact same archaeological site from Petra, Jordan, which is also the motif of the menu. I just think it's funny that there are so many photos of the exact same thing. I love the music there...not too loud, adds to the experience. One small complaint: One time, way more tip was added than had been actually given and my coworker only discovered it because she meticulously checks her bank activity against her receipts. I don't usually write reviews but our group of 4 loved all of the food we ordered here. We were the second group of people in there on a Tueday night at about 5:30pm. By the time we left at 7pm the place was 3/4 full. One of us took our excellent waiter's advice and had the lentil soup. I tried a spoonful of it and it tasted great. I wished he had left some so I could have finished it for him! I got 6 huge perfectly spiced Prawns served on a wonderfully delicious bed of rice - Mediterranean Prawns. My wife loved the same prawns in the Prawn Shish Kabob and she raved about the rice as well. I went here with my ex the other night before The Comedy Get Down. I was skeptical at first because I don't eat foreign food often. I ordered Lemon Chicken and Purple Grape martini to go with. They brought out the red lentil soup and it was f*cking delicious. I have been thinking about the soup since I have left. It is vegetarian but tastes like it has meat in it. So good. Great thing is they sell it to go! While I was eating the soup a dancer came out and it was very entertaining. She put a sword on her head and even let me and my fiance take a picture! The purple grape martini was easily the best martini I have ever had. I suggest it a lot if you like grape flavored juices. Now finally, the entree. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the glaze on the chicken was a bit strong but it didn't stop me from eating everything! And the rice, oh the rice. Was heaven! I usually only like white rice, no butter, no sauce. But this garlic rice is crazy good. I think I may go back this week. Last but not least our server was amazing. Very attentive to my needs, no attitude, and was working to his full potential. (I was a server in the past so I recognize good service when I get it) I wish I would have got his name. This is the important part of the review, WARM BAKLAWA! You can get it at this place & that means that you should really probably stop reading reviews, save yourself the time, go here & eat already. Tried the baklawa sampler & every nibble & crumb was savory & sweet & at least 3 different kinds of amazing... Everything I tried here was absolutely delicious. Had the Petra fries & they were all jazzed up & looked real pretty on the plate, by the end of it we were using forks to avoid licking our fingers & making a scene. The shawarma is served with rice & comes with a soup or salad, the salad was very fresh & had wonderful flavors. Tried both the gyro shawarma & the chicken shawarma, both were by far the best I've ever had. The food is so good that it makes you want to keep eating until you hurt for it & what's better is that if you actually do (which I did, so I know by experience), the food is fresh & cooked in a manner that doesn't pit in your stomach so you're really only uncomfortable for about 45 seconds anyways, which is very important because you're going to want to order some baklawa for dessert. read more

Went there for a family reunion. All of us like Mediterranean food and the Yelp reviews were great so we decided to give it a try. From the appetizers, we really liked the fried calamari, good size portion, pretty tasty. For main course, I had the falafel plate and it was OK. 6 pieces, the taste was nothing special, I've enjoyed the falafel at other places far better. Petra has the best baba ghanouj I've ever had. It's a perfect blend of creamy garlicky goodness. I usually get the mezza tray but their lentil soup is so so sooo good! Also, the service is excellent. They are consistently friendly and helpful. I once ordered to go and when i got to Petra, I realized that I had left my wallet at home that day. I was looking forward eating at Petra after my friend greatly raved about how spectacular the food is, and the great reviews on yelp. We had originally planned to go eat at Saffron Grill (Indian/Mediterranean restaurant) because I loved their spinach paneer naan, and their masala chai is great (free refills) but, we decided to go to this restaurant instead, due to driving distances. It was late Thursday night, and so parking was easy to get to in Belltown. Location of Petra was easy to find. Petra was fairly spacious, dim-lit, and well decorated middle-east decor. I especially liked the camels holding the lantern in their mouth. I decided to try the garlic lemon chicken, with the brown lentil soup. I liked the idea that your meal came with an option of a soup or salad. My friend had the lamb dish with the red lentil soup. I liked his more than mine, so we switched. The brown lentil soup was, in my opinion, overly spiced with cumin and coriander, and salty. It overpowered everything. If this is what the soup is supposed to taste like, then the cooks nailed it. I liked the red lentil soup. No prominent flavors to write home to, but decent. When our main courses arrived, I was pretty pumped. The presentation looked nice. When I tried it, I was underwhelmed by the flavor. The chicken was very salty and dry. No indication of lemon in the chicken, as described in the menu. It was spiced well, but nothing distinguishable. Might of burned off while cooking. I did, however, like the bed of rice served with the chicken dish. I tried a piece of my friend's lamb. It tasted dry, and overcooked. Yuck. I like my lamb on the medium rare side, or at least moist. This did not meet any of my expectations. The servers were great, and very attentive. My glass was always full with water Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the food. But the service is good. That is the saving grace of this restaurant. read more

I was traveling through Seattle and craving some really good middle eastern food. I Yelped this restaurant and was immediately surprised. First, the vodka tonics I was drinking had a very generous amount of vodka. Then, the waitress brought my hummus ... OMG - I was in heaven! I had to stop eating it because I needed room for dinner. Friendly service, AMAZING food, and a wonderful atmosphere! I came here with my girlfriend on a date night, and it was one of our best dates ever. It was raining heavy that night, so to walk into a small, warm restaurant was a great start. We had a reservation, so our wait time was non-existent. Once we were seated, the servers were prompt and helpful in anything that we had questions on (drink and soup recommendations). We split a hummus plate with warm pita, which was delightful. I had a brown lentil soup (good, with just a touch of cinnamon spice) and my girlfriend had a green lentil soup (very good, kind of like split pea). Then the main course: I chose the gyro shawarma, and I can't even remember what my girlfriend had (I think chicken curry?) because the shawarma was SO good that I couldn't focus on anything else. The meat was so tender that I could break it apart using my tongue and the roof of my mouth, and it was spiced perfectly. In conclusion, I would HIGHLY recommend this to anybody looking for good food, helpful waitstaff and an intimate setting. Not sure how it would handle larger groups, but if you have 6 or less, it should be just fine. This is simply one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. As a vegetarian, it's hard to find restaurants that fit my diet but the selection here is wide and excellent across the board. They have perhaps the best falafel I've ever had and the labni (which I'd never had before coming here) was a revelation. I've eaten here several times over the past few years and the service has been superlative each time. I promise you will not regret coming here. Oh, and the baklava is a far cry from the usual americanized, drowned-in-corn-syrup mess you find at a lot of Middle-Eastern or Greek places.
