But this place stood out for several reasons: 1- They offered a discount for first time customer !! 2- The portion size seemed perfect, not too much or too little. 3- The food looks amazing. The falafels were on point and quite tasty. I actually felt bad about sharing them. I was disappointed in the flavor of the hummus, which is to say there was none. Paprika was sprinkled on top and it was a generous portion, while smooth and creamy... no flavor. No lemon, no garlic, just chickpea. The Platter was plentiful, good portion size. I'm not generally a couscous eater, but there was a nice variety to the flavor. The pita was spot on, and again, plentiful. Very light and airy, plus it held form against the hummus. I'm a sucker for spanakopita, so I felt inclined to try the spinach pie. I was torn between spinach and meat, but I'm happy i chose the spinach. I had the falafel appetizer platter with spinach, chickpeas and rice with black beans as my side choices. The food was good, however, I'm a big fan of both Mediterranean food and Indian food so I've eaten at places that have served authentic dishes from these cultures, I wouldn't say this place is one. The food was still really good. The price is very reasonable and the portions are big. I'd definitely eat here again next time I visit that mall. read more

My husband and I both had a gyro. We noticed they add feta cheese in addition to the meat, lettuce, tomato and tzatiki sauce. I don't think many places do that, at least not in our experience. For $7, there was a good amount of meat and enough flavors to satisfy our hunger. Reading the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect as some say the food is really good while others seem to be distracted at the speed of this establishment. My friend and I walked the mall for 5 hours and our hunger pain was finally kicking our butts. Cheesecake Factorys waiting time is usually 2+ hours and we didnt really want to tip so we settled for the food court at Potomac Mills. I was actually craving kabob and Petra Grill was the only option. I ordered the Combo Platter which has chicken and shami kabob. It came with rice, salad, and the bread with white sauce. The rice was bland with a weird after taste. Im used to adding saffron on my rice so maybe it tasted different to me. The salad was probably the best part of the dish, the salad dressing was not tangy, it was just right, I just wished they gave a little more of the salad. The bread was actually a toritilla wrap and not actual bread, also very stale tasting as if it were just sitting around waiting to be headed up. The shami and chicken was way over cooked, and I thought drenching it in the white sauce would help but the sauce tasted different. I dont know if it were just that day where my taste buds were off or maybe they had an off day. But I am willing to give it another try. read more

Located in the back of the Potomac Mills Food Court Petra Grill offers offers halal food. When I go here I get the gyro platter and for it to be from the food court I find for the price it's not bad. The portion size is very ample and I can never finish the entire meal. I do not enjoy their mango lassi it is too sweet for me, but you would have to try to see if it is for you. Depending on who is working they may give you a small sample to see if you like it or not. I give it 3 stars bc I usually get a few dry pieces of meat that are a little burnt ( as you can see in the picture). I expect to get them but I wish they'd remove it before serving dry pieces to customers. I guess since they give you soo much meat they figure you won't notice lol! I do like the rice, bread, and dressing. I also removed a star b/c they used to offer chick peas which I enjoyed but not anymore. They were out of the baklava :( If you enjoy this dessert you will like theirs as it is very sweet and very good!! Depending upon the time of day you go you may have a little wait but I have never waited more than 5 minutes for my food. Totally uninspired by the food court regular mumbo-jumbo (and the free handouts of meat on a toothpick by the random asian and cajun places), we stumbled on Petra Grill. Since I just wanted a "snack" I order the baba ghanouge. My partner ordered the Gyro (again, only trying to satisfy a snack-attack). As we waited and saw this glorious display of different dishes being past out to the various patrons, I was kicking myself for not ordering the kufta kabob platter or the chicken shwarma salad. But, what we got was absolutely FANTASTIC. Gyro stacked and packed with yummy, tender meat a suburb ratio of lettuce, feta cheese, and a delightful yogurt sauce. My baba ghanouge was amazing; the texture was perfect. All for under $11. I'm not worthy!! Best bang for your buck. The best mediteranian food in the woodbridge area. Hands down. I visit the mall often but in most cases travel there only to go to Petra Grill. After living in the middle east for a few years this is the best by far that I have found. The mixed mezza and the spinach pies are the BOMB!! It takes me back everytime. Warning: Its always packed so be ready to wait on some occassions, especially weekends. The bread does not seem fresh but will do. My favorite meal combo is the lamb and kofta. I just wish they sold cheese bread. In Qatar they had a resteraunt called Turkey Central. They had the best cheese bread make fresh by the order. UMMM! Anyway, this place is awesome. read more

I do appreciate the variety that Petra Grill brings to the food court at Potomac Mills--it's a nice change of pace from burgers, deli sandwiches, and stir-fries and it might also be a healthier option than some of the others. That said, I found the food to be a big disappointment. The beef kabob was cooked well but had very little flavor. The rice was just white rice with some oil mixed in. The bread was the driest I've every had at a kabob shop--it crackled apart and was too dry to absorb anything. The highlight of my plate--and the reason I'm giving Petra Grill two stars instead of one--was the salad. It was an interesting mix of green and yellow peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions with a sumac dressing. I ended up mixing it into the rice to save my plate from being a total yawn. Best Shawarma's in the DMV!! I recently visited Saudi Arabia and ate a whole bunch of chicken shawarma's and came back craving them like no other and tried a bunch of places that couldn't match the flavor. That being said, I can honestly say that this place absolutely NAILED IT flavor-wise. Only difference is that here they are about 2x the size (hey that's America for ya) and have lettuce and tomato in them instead of French fries and a pickle - although I'm sure they would be willing to make it the way you want them to if you just asked - still tastes absolutely amazing though. If you want 100% authentic Shawarma's then go here, you won't be disappointed. It's pretty cheap too, ~$16.50 for 2 chicken shawarma combos which come with fries and a drink. The Shawarma's are about the same size as a chipotle burrito to give you a sense of scale. They aren't as thick but are a bit longer in length. Sooo good! read more

I'm used to getting shawarmas in the pita pocket filed to the brim with salad, onions, spices, and meat topped with a falafel. I was drawn by the healthy-looking menu and reasonable prices, so decided to give it a try. It was tasty, fresh and healthy! My chicken was made to order, the rice was soft and mixed with a bit of noodles (like it supposed to), the salad was fresh and yummy: radishes, bell peppers, greens and onions. I have been waiting with anticipation for many months for them to reopen. The chicken I had was hit or miss in the flavor. The gentlemen who work there are very nice and accommodating.... and yes indeed, this is the BEST Shawarma in VA, and Canada ( I can say that cuz I had some shawarma when I traveled to Canada recently). I experienced this heavenly delight when I was passing through Kuwait on my way to a military deployment in Iraq. I too had searched high and low for good schawarma and was thrilled to find it right up the street!!! The only thing that keeps me from stopping as often as I would like is the parking. Parking at Potomac Mills is a nightmare and if I can't find a relatively close spot, I drive on. You may have to wait 10-15 minites while your food is being cooked to order, but it's well worth the wait. People complain about the price, but I feel you pay for the quality & authentic Mediterranean experience. Thank goodness for Petra Grill! I work at the mall and have eaten here countless times and have NEVER been disappointed. Best things here: kufta, steak, and chicken kabob, tabbouli, baba ganoush, hummus, tzatziki, naan, stuffed grape leaves, falafel, baklava- everything is so delicious. Can't understand why anyone would give them a bad review. The staff is always very nice. It can be a long wait sometimes but well worth it! Totally in a class of its own compared to the rest of the food court. About $10 will get you a delicious platter with plenty of food and a drink to wash it down. Something more like $6-7, order a wrap. They have gyros as well as falafel wraps. Yum delicious! Also try the Petra Grill located off Hoadly road between Woodbridge and Manassas.
