My only (slight) issue with the store is that they often run out of the products I'm looking for and don't always replenish them. Really great pet supply store. The owner is really sweet as are the young college aged kids that work there. Great selection for how small it is. We get all our pet food and goodies here. I have been going to both Petropolis stores in Camarillo now for quite some time for our little Boston Terrier/Chihuahua mix and we love the store. Every staff member there is very knowledgeable and very helpful. I love just going in and speaking with the staff about pets, pet food and dog care. I highly recommend going to this store to purchase all your pet supplies. They have a great selection of all natural pet products and even if their prices can be beat by purchasing online I would still go here to support them as again they are so helpful and it is great to support local businesses. This is by far the best Pet store in Camarillo! At first you may think the prices are high but considering the quality of the products it is a small price to pay. If you want the best possible nutritional options for your pet whether it be dry food, wet food, dehydrated, raw, or some tasty treats then shop here! This is my favorite pet store. I don't go anywhere else. They almost always have what I need and on the rare occasion that they don't, they'll special order it for me. All of the staff are wonderful and knowledgeable. I love that they rescue kittens and support the local rescues and the Camarillo shelter. A short time ago I was given a medium sized young dog and as I had never bathed one before, I was at a loss as how to go about going about it at home. I searched the internet for directions and stumbled upon the DYI dog wash at Petropolis. What a deal! They have a separate room all set up with everything one needs - waist high counter, large tub with gentle warm water spray, shampoo, towels and a host of grooming supplies. Initially my dog was very apprehensive and feared the forthcoming ordeal, but after a few minutes he began to settle down and almost enjoyed it. For him the best part was the towel drying which did require an extra towel because he really balked at the noise and ferocity of the blow dryer. The extra towel was $1 but In MHO, well worth it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone willing to spend the time with their dog. read more

Petropolis is by FAR the BEST pet supply store in Camarillo. The staff is really knowledgeable about nutrition and all things pet-centric. Every time I'm in there I learn something new from them because they care about helping customers choose the best products for their animals. I was confused about my dog's severe itching problem and the owner, Shawna saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars in vet bills by helping me switch his diet. I love these guys!!! Petropolis is great. I have to special order my dog's food and no one else in town would do it. Petropolis orders it every week for me so that I don't have to have a ton of it sitting around the house. I love Petropolis. They have a great selection of dog food and pet toys. My dogs go crazy for the Deer Antlers. Don't worry they are "naturally shed", as that was my first question. The antlers are pricey but my two dogs get hours and hours of enjoyment from just one of them. If they don't have the antlers then get the Himalayan Goat chews! The owner could not be more helpful and the rest of the staff is extraordinarily friendly. Much better than the other slim choices for pet stores in and around Camarillo. read more

There is a new location in Camarillo as well closer to me, but i have shopped at this location many times before the new one opened. The staff clearly know their stuff and love animals. They sell higher end organic food and products that you won't find at Petco. The new Camarillo location has a self service dog wash. They do Santa pictures at the holidays with proceeds going to charity. My baby loves coming here. read more

Today was my first trip into Petropolis and it definitely didn't disappoint! My poor terrier mutt has some arthritis issues and the most frustrating has been in her jaw. She can't open her mouth too wide and it's hard for her to chew on her beloved chewy toys! I went into Petropolis looking for some small treats that she could handle and they were a HUGE help! Walked me through the stuff that I wasn't familiar with, made amazing recommendations for items that didn't break the bank. I will definitely be heading back in the future! read more

Everyone was so nice and the gift bags were filled with tasty tidbits that my dogs have already been trying out. Even though Petropolis is farther away than where I normally shop, I am eager to come to the store. We wrote a letter to the owner of Petropolis and the dog groomer hoping to get some kind of response from either of them and after a couple weeks with not even a phone call apology - we are posting the letter we wrote. This is a huge disappointment because we like supporting local businesses - never this one again. . . . To the owner of Petropolis and Dog Groomer, We have waited over a week to write this letter to process what we feel about the way our dogs were supposedly groomed and every day it feels worse! We brought our 3 small white dogs into be groomed Wednesday November 23rd with your dog groomer. We know her from when she worked in the front of the store a couple of years back and found her to be a very nice person. When I brought the dogs in I asked for them to brought down about half way. The little Maltese had a couple of mats on the sides from the doggie diapers that were used over a weekend but they were not that bad. The other 2 dogs had no mats because we brushed them all a day before bringing them in. She also told us that there was a multiple dog discount which is helpful with 3 dogs. Guess what . . . She sheared all three dogs! We have had these dogs for 4 & 6 years and never has anyone ever "groomed" them this way. It looks like scissors were used - these 3 dogs who have very nice hair, now look like crap! They all had baths 3 weeks before this so they were not brought in neglected. If there was a need to remove all their hair, why weren't we called? Did she think we would be happy with having all their hair removed? There is no way that we could have a little Christmas card picture this year because of the horrible way they ALL look. Why did she do this? I think she needs to go back to school to learn more. This is not the way a dog should look after a professional grooming who is charging $50. a dog!! When their hair grows out enough, we will be taking them to a real dog groomer to have their coats fixed since it is all uneven right now! My husband mentioned the multiple dog discount to the grumpy lady at the front. He said she ignored his question and did NOT give the discount and charged out $150. To pay $150. and have the doggies come out looking like this is outrageous! He tipped the groomer $20 because he said he felt awkward not tipping but honestly it was a huge waste of money because it is embarrassing the way they look right now. When our friends were visiting recently they asked . . . "what happened to your doggies"? By the way, Jonez, the Maltese Shih Tzu has NEVER had mats and has a silkiness about his. His hair right now seems very dry and we are wondering about the quality of the products used to bathe them. This letter has nothing to do with money - if they had come out looking really groomed not only would you not be reading this letter but we would have rescheduled for their next bath as we always do! Beware if you decide to use this groomer - it's been almost a month and our doggies still look horrible and it is cold outside - not the time to shear them!! Shame on this groomer! 3/12/2016 Just to add to this review: We have run into this groomer a couple of times in a local restaurant and she treats us like we are invisible. It just seems so wrong for her not to take responsibility or be even a little bad about what she did to these doggies. I can say that it's been months and the new groomer has brought our doggies back to clean, shiny and really groomed. read more

i really like this place. it's walking distance from the boyfriend's house so we end up meandering on over whenever we feel like spoiling the puppy. it's a small store but obviously run by a very caring staff. they have a great selection of chews, food, toys and bedding. and after we take care of puppy, we inevitably head over to the sandwich shop next door and get treats for ourselves. read more

This is a true local gem. Shawna is an expert when it comes to nutrition and I'm not sure I've ever been in there without asking her or one of her employees a question that leads to many more. I have a 'high maintenance' Yorkie with a grain allergy and epilepsy, and now pancreatitis. She requires a special diet and I cannot imagine getting expert help on what she needs from a trip to Petsmart or Petco. We also go to Jersey Mike's and Dr. Miller's vet office in the same shopping center, so when we go to those places we also have to go by Petropolis to pick up special treats for the pups.. they have an amazing selection! I'm not a 'buy local' person if my local places don't offer what I need, but this is a great store and I'm so happy to support local business in the case of Petropolis! read more
