Great service!! (Don't try this at home though!) Our dog sprained her ankle while playing. She fell off of a 20 foot ledge near a mural. My husband rushed her to a local vet that basically took two hours just to have him fill out paperwork. She was in agony and they hadn't even begun to treat her. In a bold move, I rushed to this Petsmart where staff helped me find doggy anti-inflammatory pain relieving aspirin and doggy bandages to make a homemade cast. My 6 month old puppy ( GSD mix) needed her nails trimmed so I took to PetSmart ( PetSmart In SF , off Geary) bc they are able to take you on the spot l. They checked her in and TWO employees worked on her. I figured this will be quick since two people are working on a puppy. They came out about 10 mins later and said they can't work on her nails bc she's nipping at them when they touch her paws. They said it's "policy" that they must stop when that happens. Then they tried to charge me the entire amount because they were able to trim two of her nails. I asked them why didn't they use a muzzle or something? What did they expect out of a 6 month old puppy? They said it's "policy" I refused to pay the entire amount bc my service was not complete. I was just in the store and they refused to sell me three neon tetras because they said my tank wasn't big enough. I guess they don't see the irony in the fact that while they think they are protecting the pretty neons they actually sell live goldfish to be sold to be eaten by other fish (btw many are floating and dead in the tank). Update (March 2022): I'm upset with myself that I ever trusted the groomers at the Ohlen PetsMart again. I got his hair cut last in Oct or Nov 2021... they did a good job, no problems. 2 out of 3 times however (to date) my dog has needed veterinarian care after a visit. This time was severe, see attached picture. A chunk of his leg was slashed off today. I'm emotional right now and so upset with these groomers and management. Please be careful if you care about your pet, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID. They absolutely do not care about your pets at PetsMart. May 2021 review (4 Stars): There was an incident with my dog in the grooming salon and my dog got a gash on his leg by accident. My lil guy is okay but I had a mild heart attack when I get the call. Well at first I was going to be very disappointed but the manager did right by me. I went to buy my dog food and her usual brand wasn't available so I bought something I thought would be comparable. When I paid the cashier asked for my number and I said that I wasn't a member so she proceeded to ask me if I wanted a receipt and I stated no. I got home and my picky little eater wouldn't touch the food. So I called the store and they said I could return for a full refund it if I used my phone number or had the receipt. Well since I didn't do either she said I could exchange it for something else, or I could drive around Austin (can you imagine!) looking for my brand at another one of their locations. That was not an option. I explained to her the cashier situation and she told me to come back to her store and they would figure something out. So I did and the manager gave me a full refund. That is what a manager should do since her cashier made the mistake of asking if I needed my receipt after asking me for my phone number. If you cannot return something without a phone number or receipt if the customer doesn't want to give their phone number don't ask them for the option of getting a receipt or not just give it to them. read more

Its a petsmart, its nothing special, some of the people that work there are nice and helpful but a little un-informed, but some of them are just down right terrible. I go to this location at least once a week to get some crickets for my skink, and I would say at least once a month it will take over 20 minutes to get someone over to the fish and cricket area to get me some. They have allot of birds that live in the store, and not just in the care to sell. if you ever get a chance to you know wait for someone to come get crickets for ya, look up and watch the rafters, full of birds. I wonder if any employees ever get pooped on ;P For some things going here is great cause it will be cheap, but for buying critters you can find better stores. read more

So friendly and kind and you can tell she not only really cares about the customers and dogs but also about her employees. A new employee was in training and she spoke so encouraging and positive towards her. She also took extra care of my super anxious dog and made sure to tell me details after and compliment our care of him. Grooming services particularly by Nate are fantastic! My Shizu-Llapso looks and feels great every time and we've been a client for years! I've moved away and drive-in for appts bc I trust Nate and he does teeth, ears and nails, as well as the best rounded cut my dog has ever gotten & Nate's consistent. My only concern and reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that they use cage dryers and I do not like this form of drying. It's convenient for the business and less than desirable, I'd say even uncomfortable for my dog. I think about this each time and ask him to keep an eye on my dog. When my dog comes home he's very thirsty and this is not the case when he comes home from other groomers (no cage dryers) or mobile groomers. read more

I decided to bring my pup here to have his nails trimmed, and the gals were so nice and accommodating for Shakes' first time going to the groomer's. One held and babied my 70-pound pup while the other clipped. They were also kind enough to adjust one of the specials to accommodate for the anal expression, and before long we were on our way. The only thing I'd mention is that the waiting area is a bit small, so 2-3 pups and their owners makes for a small space. That being said, their service was professional (asking other owners if their smaller dogs are okay with being close to larger dogs). It's affordable and you can tell that these ladies love their job and the pets they get to take care of! I had a great experience and would definitely return for the next trim. read more

This is a review of an order at Petsmart on IH35 and Slaughter Lane in south Austin. I ordered a product on line for curb side pickup. After a 4 hour wait and no response I went to the store to get the item myself. I was told that the item wasn't in stock. I understand things happen so I researched and found it in north Austin. The same item cost me almost $12 dollars more. They wouldn't match the price I paid online for the south store. Later that evening I get a notice that my item is at the south store and is ready for pickup. Emailed customer service at Petsmart and they said sorry you had a bad experience and here is the south Austin store's number to discuss your issue with a pet specialist. Huh? I need a customer service specialist who won't pass the problem onto someone else. After this experience please support locally owned businesses. read more

Staff are nice, and helpful, but they don't consistently keep basic supplies in stock, such as a very popular brand of solution to prepare tap water to use in an aquarium. I found neither of two sizes of the item in stock. Assistant manager said "we're getting stock in". This store is out of my way, so I didn't get more until I was completely out and urgently needed it to clean the fish tank. I told her that if I can't rely on this store to have items in stock when I need them, I won't be relying on shopping there in the future. I've been here several times and never have had any real complaints...until now. First, let me say that the staff is usually helpful if you can find someone to help you, besides up at the registers. I'm pretty much trained to immediately migrate back to the cat area...after looking at the kitties up for adoption first. I think I've been asked if I needed help once, maybe twice. They never seem to have turtles/tortoises for sale(or any impressive reptiles for that matter), but there's always a plethora of birds and small furry things...which I'm pretty indifferent to. ANYway, I just called (have you ever had to immediately review something because it just sucked?) to ask about pet carrier sizes for my move to Seattle. The airline has specific pet carrier size regulations, so I needed specific information. *Also, just as a minor side note, I called PetCo in the Hancock Center just before this, so my comparison is to the PetCo. I think I'm going to edit my review of them next.* I got an automated machine answer and I selected to be sent to the operator. The girl was USELESS!!! She merely said that they had all different sizes of carriers. As I tried to explain my dilemma, she seemed annoyed, then repeated herself. Then told me that I needed to come into the store to see the variety. Bitch! This phone experience alone (in comparison to the PetCo experience) will probably make me not go into the store again...even though I am a PetPerks cardholder! read more

Well I booked my dog to get groomed- the girl calls to cancel- doesn't leave a message, doesn't leave a text, email or even try more than once. So I had rearranged my whole day to pick up my dog and drop her off in between appts only to get there and find out the girl had gone home sick. Some other girl was there to tell me that-- didn't offer to help or anything- nor did she try and confirm the appt cancellation w me while her co worker was out sick. Does anyone know how to communicate properly anymore?!?! Now I have to go back and drop off my dog and hopefully will make my next appt. Typical of what I'd expect for a pet store. Good variety & selection. Decent prices, especially if you have a coupon + find things on sale! :0) Downside? The employees all try to sell me on their training. I don't really care for it because they heavily rely on treat training, which I don't think is necessary. You might not have a treat on hand when you want your dog to heel. Yes I understand that you can gradually stop offering the treats and the dog SHOULD obey, but that's not always the case. (Friends dog went here for obedience training and it did not help.) The place doesn't smell which is great! And, I love that it's down the street from my apartment. read more

Its a quieter store, so theres more stock of sale items, and they often have things other petsmart stores run out of! This store is always clean, and the staff is *actually* knowledgeable, or at least the one girl who helped me figure out exactly what my cat was allergic to (Chicken!!! Two thumbs down for their online shopping experience. Promising free shipping on orders over 49. dollars is a complete scam/lie/con game, even when All the items are in stock at the store you select. In my case Ohlen rd/Austin, tx. Ridiculous customer service from their online customer service dept. One complete "run-a-round" online entering the order and calling customer service, trying to get the order shipped for your sick/betta you purchased thru them, along with tank, food, water conditioner ie thru the treats program which is another scam, they say you get a discount online or at the store thru the program, but I haven't seen one. I have a disability and cannot drive. I've tried multiple times to place an order. Below is the order I tried to place today-All items in stock and order is 49.54 so qualifies for free shipping, supposedly. I've tried to place this order several times for my sick Betta Zippy, w fin rot...and in the past, something was not in stock-but even Walmart will ship orders over 35. free and if something isn't in stock, they will ship it short, or ship it complete when item comes in...not make the customer have to keep trying to enter the order over and over. I found out its just a scam, today, because All items are in stock...yet two of the items when you try to ship them to you-which is another hassle-having to enter every item separately, see if it is available...then if its not...you have to be inconvenienced to pick up those items and then order the other items another x...but in the case of sick fish...they sold you...this is not an option to stop by the store 3 different x's...be professional...if you want to save money and ship the order complete, petsmart...take the order and email the customer when the order ships.
