The grooming services at this location is hit or miss. We've had one very good experience when we loved the way our pooch looked. A few months later, exactly the opposite. Sure his hair was fine, but they didn't cut his nails or clean his ears like we asked (Didn't realize til we got home. It was my own fault for not checking before we left, we just assumed they'd do their job). They cut the hair between his paw pads so short that there was nearly zero hair on his back paws. WAY too short. He ended up getting irritated between his paw pads and I had to get some salve to get rid of the infection before it took over. When we picked him up the second time, they said he was bad because he didn't like them touching his feet (sure, he should get more foot action and build his tolerance but I wouldn't say a dog who doesn't bite or bark is "bad"...). And then seeing how bald his little toes were, there's no wonder he didn't like it. We'll try one more time to see how it goes. read more

I go to this location about once a month as I have a monthly doctor's appointment nearby and usually have something to pick up for my dog or other animals. The time of day I typically come by is mid day and it's usually pretty clean. I huge selection of dog toys/treats but not much as far as leashes/collars. I like that they have the Omega One fish food which is a "premium" food as far a fish foods are concerned and can be hard to find, so that's actually pretty awesome. Got a dwarf hamster there 2 years ago and she's still fat and alive and never had any health problems with her. I went to PetSmart to have my newly adopted rescue cat bathed and have her nails trimmed. It was with good intentions but my poor cat was scared to say the least. Let's just say they had to cut the leash off of her and she bolted under the kennel. Shavon & Alison were very patient with my cat. With a bit of help from me they were able to get her out from hiding. Shavon provided great advice for future visits. While Zoe was still skittish, Alison was able to give her a waterless bath and groom my baby to perfection. Thanks again ladies for your patience and kindness. read more

The grooming at this Petsmart on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn was great years ago when it opened. So I had fond memories of that when I brought my new to me sixteen year old dog for grooming today. The two groomers in the salon were so surly, rude, angry, nasty, depressed, and passive aggressive that I asked for them to call the manager. Kelly, is her name. She arrived to hear the worst one of the two of them yelling like a distraught two year old. Kelly, rather than trying to solve the problem, or even ask what was going on refused to help. Clearly then, I understand, why the grooming place is so badly run. I am sorry that a good place has gone so badly downhill, and relieved that their behavior occurred before I left my dog with them. He would not have been safe with them. Please beware! Protect your loved pets from these toxic women. Luckily the neighborhood has several other excellent grooming places. The only reason I am giving one star is because I have to give something in order to write a review. I had an appointment for the grooming salon today dor my two cats. I am in a bit of a hurry because I have a moving to make in just a few days since I am moving out of state. I took my pets to the vet today, for a regular check up (health certificate for traveling purposes). No procedures or anything else was made. They told me they cannot receive my cats becaue they were at the vet today. They dont tell you this when you are bookiing the appointment. When I tried to explained the situation, the person they put on the phone, if you can call it person, I wouldnt call that thing that talked to me on the phone a dog (it would be an insult to dogs). He was the most rude individual I have ever met in my life, he was condescending, obnoxious, a total prick. He wouldnt let me talk or explain my situation and completely refuse to take my cats or listen to my reasons. I underatand they have that policy, but they should make the client aware of this since it is nowhere to be found in their website, and this could be a real problem for clients, like in my case when time is scarse. Of course I would never never never ever take my cats there for grooming or any toher service, because if that is the way they treat humans I dont want to imagine how they treat your pets. Though My grand-dog only needs nail grinding from the groomers at this Petsmart, every one has always been friendly and patient (she's not a fan of getting a pedicure). The store often has nice sales so though we have to travel a few minutes by car and then hunt for a parking space it's worth the trip. read more

Even though I was late and there was a mix up on my account and appointment, Jeanette smoothed everything out. She took the time to to go over exactly how you want your pooch to look and she does a damn good job. Tyrion "Tyrio" gets so many compliments on his doggie do! You can tell all the ladies love what they do and have personal relationships with each owner and pup. I highly recommend bringing your dog here for grooming, you will not be disappointed. Kyle in the grooming department is amazing. We have two big dogs; one calm, one not so much. He worked with our shepherd to make him comfortable. He recognized that he was being defensive, not aggressive, given this new stressful setting and didn't give up on putting him at ease and getting him groomed. He could have just decided he didn't want to deal with a difficult pup; but instead wants to work with us on getting our dog more comfortable at the groomers. Whenever I have worries or questions about the bearded dragon I purchased at this location I come here. The workers are always more than happy to help me and to answer my questions. I've learned so much about raising a bearded dragon ! 2. My girlfriend purchased a baby turtle from a random guy on the street and we didn't know anything about raising a turtle. The first place I went to is this petsmart ! The worker walked me through with everything that I needed to make sure my girlfriends turtle made it. Everything at a good price ! Now my turtle is happy and growing ! 3. A huge variety of decors, tanks, food, live food etc etc and all at a good price especially when you have a pet perks membership! First time here and I was greeted by a friendly worker named Vinny. I came looking for guinea pigs and he was very patient and answered any and all the questions I had. I wanted to see the color/ markings of the guinea pigs and hamsters so he patiently opened up each and every cage I was interested in. He even showed us guinea pigs up for adoption in the back that they didn't have room for on the sales floor. But we were only interested in a certain breed of guinea pig so we passed on them. Another day in the life of Stewie! Last Saturday Stewie had his tri-weekly Spa Day with Stephanie (I highly recommend her). My precious baby always looks and smells great after his session with her. When Stewie realizes where we're going he gets so excited and pulls me to the store. I've been bringing him to this grooming salon for a few years now and from day one when we met Stephanie, she and Stewie have been BFFs. Stephanie treats Stewie as family. Her interaction with him and other dogs that I've seen her groom is so satisfying and I trust leaving Stewie with her knowing that she will provide him with the best care. Brought my kitty here for his first ever professional grooming (the "bath & brush" option) and I couldn't be happier! The employees were very nice and the groomer who I booked with, Kia, checked us in quickly. They told me it would be 2-3 hours and called me after about 1.5 hours to tell me he'd be done in ~20 minutes, so it was almost exactly 2 hours. When I picked him up, Kia told me how he behaved during the grooming (he was a good boy!) which I really appreciated. We just got home a little while ago and my cat feels soft, looks well-brushed, smells fresh and clean, and has nice trimmed nails! He didn't seem stressed out when I picked him up from Petsmart, and now he's snoozing away on the couch :) Thank you Kia & crew! read more

I've been a VERY LOYAL CUSTOMER here since 2011. Whether it be Washington, DC or New York NO one else has received my patronage the way you did. I am a regular customer at the Grooming Salon for 7 years. I have missed appointments and have actively cancelled ahead of time when able to. According to you you policy cancellations even when informed are no shows. 3 no shows result in you losing the ability to book online forever. Recently I missed a 7am appointment on March 2nd a day where we had a powerful snow storm in NYC and the roads were not safe for travel. I called at 6:30am when I saw the weather conditions and your location "wasn't open" so no one received my call. Today I tried to reschedule an appointment and Mariana my former groomer who I've been loyal to for the past 6 years refused me and was supported by her manager and other team members. While I usually would support this type of camaraderie, I cannot support this unity in unprofessionalism. You CANNOT hood people accountable for life happening, especially if you as a business have inefficient systems which cause bogus policies. I will NOT step foot in pet smart again no matter how far I have to travel. Mariana was once considered part of our family as we made regular visits for both of my fur children but she has quickly turned into some sort of Dog show Diva! If this is the type of experience you want to provide your customers then you don't deserve my money or my referrals. Went here because my regular pet store - a fraction of the size of this store - had a freezer problem and lost most of its stock. This is about the grooming salon and not the store itself. We have been taking our labradoodle Ziggy to Petsmart upstate NY for groomings since he was a puppy and never had anything but wonderful experiences with the stores in Kingston and Middletown. We live in Brooklyn (have weekend place upstate) and decided to try the Atlantic Avenue grooming salon. BIG MISTAKE. Bad idea to not consult Yelp before making that decision.... The staff was rude. We had to wait 20 min to hand off Ziggy upon arrival because our groomer was bathing another dog. Three other groomers were standing around complaining about their life and talking about their drinking experience the night before, in the meantime. After 20 min our groomer came running out huffing and puffing in a less than cheery mood. The consultation was non-existing unless one count the groomer snapping at me and cutting me off while trying to discuss the pending hair cut. We were subsequently yelled at for not brushing Ziggy's teeth or fur at least three times per week by the groomer who had a terrible attitude. Know that our dog is very well taken care of and there was no ground for this. Later we were called back to the store because the tail was matted. Again told in a very off-putting tone that there was nothing to do but shaving it down. Trying to argue that opinion in a friendly tone was not an option. At this time we strongly suspected that Ziggy had not been washed or brushed out prior to the cutting started. There was so much "unprofessionalism" going on during this experience that this review would be too long to publish, should I go into details. We handed in a beautiful labradoodle and walked home with Santa's Little Helper..... After speaking to the manager we got a full refund. However, I am not 100% sure if he got the seriousness of the situation. He allowed the same groomer to continue to work at Ziggy another hour AFTER the complaint. Long story short, worst experience ever. I would not recommend this grooming salon to anyone! We will continue to take our dogs to the stores upstate. read more

I've talked to employees at the store, vet, and grooming facilities in this location. Customer service is horrendous. Either no one is around to answer questions or you encounter someone who is rude. I stopped coming here after I asked the groomer if they groom FIV+ cats. They do not, which is fine, other places refuse as well. BUT they reasoned that they do not groom FIV+ cats because the virus is airborne. I could have argued with the groomer but thought it best not to waste my time. Our westie has seen Jasmine a few times for grooming and we just love her! Macy is high maintenance and whines and howls the entire time (I know this is extremely annoying and Jasmine is always so sweet and caring). Macy always looks great when she is finished and seems really happy so I feel as though she has a good experience when she goes. I highly recommend Jasmine, she is very kind and does a wonderful job! I just returned from Pesmart and had my Sheltie (dog) and Persian cat (both rescues BTW) groomed. I was very nervous about using them but my groomer at another salon of many years and many pets is injured and out on leave. What a pleasant and professional experience! We had an appointment and it started right on time. The groomer spent considerable time asking me what I wanted. She was genuinely interested in both animals and quite warm and friendly. Both animals look wonderful. There are groomers who really don't know HOW to groom a Sheltie but mine got the classic grooming and he really looks great. The Persian looks equally great with her summertime Lion's Shave. Although all the groomers there seem good, we were assigned Renisha and I will be asking for her again. Cost was reasonable and we got 'the works'. I highly recommend Petsmart on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn for pet grooming. read more

I had the WORST experienced trying to adopt two kittens at this location Adoption Event. I saw a kitten I really wanted to adopt and I was told that I must "adopt two kittens so they can keep each other company." I didn't have a problem with that because I really wanted a kitten. This is my first time ever going to an adoption event and the workers there seemed nice. I told one of the workers " Was there anymore kittens arriving because Im very much interested." She had me fill out an adoption form until the other kittens arrived so I can be all set. The lady who was the foster mom or owner of all the kittens and cats that came to PetSmart was Extremely Rude and Nasty. I didn't know that I had to get her approval to adopt one of her kittens because every time I picked out the two I wanted she keep telling me "no" she think they would be a great pair to take home. Even when I wanted a different cat she still said "no!" Then the owner had the audacity to ask me for my former cats vet information in detail, but I noticed when other people wanted the same kittens I wanted she was like "ok." I was really hurt and disappointed because the employees were not really helpful except one young girl. I asked her "This is how adoption events happen?" She was like "yes because these are all her cats and kittens." My niece started crying because she really wanted the kittens too. I was so upset when I realized that I was not getting the kitten or cat I wanted. Even when I went to another store employee for help I was brushed off because this lady had the final say. I'm all for saving a kitten or cats life but I should be treated with respect!!! This was the first and last PetSmart Adoption Event I will ever go to!!! read more

Brooklyn Heights is filled with all these little boutique pet stores where they only cater to cats and dogs, everything costs an eye watering amount, and the hours are sketchy. Finally we get a real pet store with a giant and reliable supply of products for all pets. Along with stuff for my cats I can buy frozen mice for my snakes and live mealworms or crickets for my lizard. There is an excellent fish section, reptile section, dog section, cat section, rodent section... Etc. the place is no thrills but the prices are decent and its an actual pet store. read more

There isn't anything intrinsically wrong with PetSmart. In fact, there's a lot going for it: decent product selection, pretty well stocked, reasonable prices, good location. But what is wrong with it is that given all of these resources and convenience, the place should have better service, more attentive staff, more carefully selected products. Do we really need to choose between 24 different kinds of poo-poo bags, all of which are paper thin and shitty? No pun intended. It's simply an uncaring corporate space. I'll stick to the locally-owned places, even if they charge a bit more and have odd business hours. As far as grooming goes, I shudder at the thought of bringing my dogs to an assembly line. I cannot overstate how much one should not bring their animal to this location. I brought my dog in for a routine grooming. They cut her so badly she needed stitches. They then left her waiting for over 5 hours before they gave her those stitches. They also entirely failed to keep me abreast of what had happened / when she would be ok for pick-up. When I spoke with both their grooming manager and the receptionist for their in-house vet, I was essentially told "too bad--you can come get her when she is ready." There was a total lack of empathy or even cynical attempts at customer retention. At the end of my phone call with their grooming manager, he, in fact, had the gall to tell me that I would not have to pay for the stitches as if that was something that I should have been grateful for. read more

I took my dog here to get groomed. Overall it was an okay experience. This was his first grooming experience so I knew it would be challenging to get him groomed. I got him the full package. Once I picked him up he looked great. That wasn't the case when I took a closer look when we got home. There was a huge area on his back where his fur wasn't cut at all. Because of that reason I'm only giving the grooming three stars. Side note for anyone getting their pets groomed...check your pet before you leave. Don't make the same mistake that I made. read more

This is a review for the pet grooming service on Atlantic Avenue. I guess I should've read the reviews before I went in, and I learned again that you get what you pay for. I'd not take my dog here for grooming, and will go to support another small business in the area with better service. I took my dog here once when I was still a new dog owner and didn't know any better. My terrier mix had a cut with Lexi, which was good, so I made an appointment for her second grooming. I showed up 15 minutes late, which I take responsibility for, and was in line for another 15 minutes as there was a sign on the door that said "One family at a time". Once I finally got in at 9:30, they said I'm too late for the appointment and that they canceled it. I understand policies are policies, but 1) that was the first time I'ddheard of this policy (maybe it's in the fineprint I didn't read?), and wish they had made this more explicit in the multiple emails they sent and when they called after I booked the appointment. 2) Both Lexi and the other woman there kept insisting I wasn't in line for more than 5 minutes, and I was like, I can show you my Citibike dock time which wouldn't have been more than 5 minutes away from the store. I called back to express my disappointment and that I wish they hadn't kept insisting that they didn't see me standing outside in line. The woman kept insisting I wans't there for that long and said I was lying and hung up. So I won't go back. Also realized I probably don't want to leave my dog in this type of environment or support a business where they don't really seem to care about the wellbeing of their customers, both humans and dogs. This is a review of the grooming salon. I don't shop for supplies at PetSmart as they do not carry any of the products I use. The groomers are fine. The prices are very high. The service is insanely terrible. They make you wait to sign in your pet for no reason at all. I've had them refuse to check in my dog simply because the groomer who was scheduled to groom him was late to work or on a smoke break or something. I had to wait for her to arrive. I never am able to get out of there without blowing like 15 minutes simply handing off or picking up my dog. It's their little game they play. I took my little Chorkie to be bathed and groomed, and Courtney did a wonderful job, pampering, bathing, and giving her a trim. This location just opened recently, and at first I was nervous to see this giant come to the neighborhood, as we have some nice independent pet supply stores around. But I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and knowledgeable staff at this location. They also have a great selection of harder-to-find items (like fungus cures for fish tanks, etc.) as well as grooming and veterinary services. The groomer didn't do the best job on my dog, hence the 4 stars instead of 5, but he was very friendly and nice and my dog seemed happy and like he had been well-treated. read more

Don't bother getting your pets groomed here. They will butcher your dog/cat! I bought my dog to get groomed with them and when I got him back he had red razor rashes all over his body and a thick scab on the top of his head. That night he was whining and scratching because he was so irritated and uncomfortable, he barely slept. I noticed him acting much differently over the next two days, lethargic, irritated and uncomfortable. He couldn't even eat because he was focused on scratching. 4 days after his groom I noticed his neck was wet with a viscous fluid. I took him to the vet and they told me he was forming a skin infection all after his groom! My poor dog is traumatized because of their carelessness with animals, ever since I got him from petsmart he's been lethargic, lifeless and untrusting, traits he never had before. I had to come out with money from my own pockets to take him to the vet from something that they did to him. If I can give this petsmart no stars I would! read more

I brought my dog in yesterday for a 10am appointment (which she was late for.) And boy do I regret it. I brought a clear picture of what I wanted him to look like (pic of him cut the way I liked) which Kathleen didn't seem to pay any attention to. I asked her multiple times if she wanted me to email it for reference and she repeatedly told me she knew what I was looking for. (I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH-KATHLEEN HAD NO CLUE WHAT I WANTED AND ENDED UP DOING COMPLETELY HER OWN THING!) I stressed that I was particular and she assured me she knew what I wanted. She said it would take 3 hours, but it actually took 6. Not professional but understandable. We called at least twice while he was there to check up on his progress which the staff claimed was fine. Needless to say it WASN'T. My girlfriend went in to get him and as soon as he came out a wave of anger came over me. SHE HAD SHAVED MY GOLDENDOODLE DOWN TO THE SKIN IN A FREAKING BLIZZARD!!!!! (Unevenly I might add!) He looks terrible! She shaved his LEGS down to the skin as well!!!!!! Which is NOT the correct way to cut a doodle. Then my girlfriend informed me that WITHOUT CALLING OR ASKING US they decided to go over him with a shorter blade than we had requested. We called this place MULTIPLE times, they couldn't mention to us then that they were having issues? Pathetic and inexcusable. She obviously had no idea how to cut a goldendoodle and instead of informing us that she was incapable, she decided to use MY dog as an experiment. SHAME ON YOU KATHLEEN! I literally was in tears as soon as I saw him. He looks absolutely disgusting and there isn't a single person who saw differently. She basically gave him the complete opposite of the cut I asked for. Which was actually way MORE work than the groom I PAID her to do. I'm beyond upset. I demanded a refund, which I got, but that doesn't give my dog his hair back. Also my girlfriend gave her a 20$ tip that she did not in ANY WAY deserve. Kathleen is a completely incompetent groomer. If she were my employee I would fire her in a heartbeat. Please do not take your dog to Kathleen. Now I have to buy my dog a jacket because he is freezing outside. People used to stop us to say how beautiful he is but since his cut yesterday he has only been stopped by one person who commented on how I needed to find a new groomer.
