I frequented the Petco down the street before I found out that this gem existed, and I absolutely adore this Petsmart location! I came here for the fish section, and all the fish are very well-organized, clean, and well-presented. It's easy to locate all the food and equipment that I needed. The fish food and aquariums here are cheaper than the Petco down the street, which is very important to me. Browsing around is a very enjoyable experience; there's adoptable cats and rabbits that you can look at, and the place smells very clean despite all of the animals. :) read more

I've been to many petsmarts and I've never felt the beed to reveiw. Last week I brought my baby in for a bath with Casiano. I got a call after a little more that 1 hour saying that I could pick her up. Usually, when i get her, shes ready to leave but this time she didnt bolt for the door. Don't trust the groomers with your precious fur babies here. My puppy got groomed and when I brought him home he was acting like a different dog. Depressed and hid under the bed for days... the male groomer we had seemed grumpy and lazy. I'm extremely pleased with this PetSmart, I've been coming here since I was little since I live down the street. They've grown a lot since then in terms of the quality of their items and the way they take care of the animals. My dog comes here for her grooming and we've personally never had a problem. My dog is very finicky when she's being groomed and she's also extremely shy but they always take good care of her. She always leaves with a nice trim to both her fur and her nails and she always has bows on her ears when she comes back to us. I'm not sure if we're lucky or if we're missing something. But we've always had great grooming service. The only problem we've had was when they had her for four hours one day and we weren't so sure as to why. I'm pleased with how they take care of the other live pets, especially the reptiles. They're always stocked with food in their bowls and none of them look dehydrated or extremely skinny. The ball pythons are always extremely active and I've never seen any of them look lethargic. They sell a whole variety of dog foods that are nicely priced especially when you have a pet perks card which is always nice. I would say they have a large selection for just about everything. The aquarium plants are a little pricey (only to my knowledge since I sometimes I go to other aquarium shops and their plants are usually very cheap) but they are pretty healthy. Overall, I'm pretty happy about this PetSmart and I've been to some really bad ones in the past. I do believe they've got a good amount of variety for the size of the store. read more

Worst costumer service. I waited 15 minutes for someone to simply get me a container of mealworms for my gecko. The lady working the reptile fish department was busy with a customer. Two employees who were doing nothing but walking around, I asked if they could get me the mealworms. They both said theyd get the manager. I waited another five minutes for this "manager". that they would "get". Irritating! The employee who had said she'd get a manager was just waiting at her empty register and just stared at me as I walked out. This isn't the first time their employees walk around, say they're going to get someone to help and are of no service at all. How hard is it to get mealworms? Cashiers are unable to go past the swinging door, open the fridge, identify a container labeled mealworms? I don't even work there And I know where they are. Never coming here again. I've been grooming my dogs at Petsmart groomers in San Antonio Texas, El Paso TX, Vacaville CA, and thus year here at the Laguna Blvd I'm Elk Grove . The past 2 times I have noticed a very negative vibe from the groomers . The first experience was that I was 19 minutes late and they would not take my dog anymore. They did not give me any 15 minute courtesy . I was upset and asked to speak to the manager. He said he would not take my dog at that time because he did not feel comfortable with me. He contradicted himself by offering me to take my dog back the following day and he would give me a discount. I did not have anymore time off and was not able to take him in any other time. That was last month . Today, a month later I take my dog in 20 minutes early for bath brush and haircut. My dog is a Shnoodle and has fluffy hai when it is long. They were refusing to groom him because they said he was matted. I pleaded with them to bathe him and they refused unless I agreed for them to shave him all the way down to his skin. I just wanted a bath for him and they refused. We will not ever go back there again. The groomers and the manager are entitled millennials . They do not care about the customer or the pets. They are lazy and don't want to try to find possibilities or opportunities to satisfy the customer and pets needs. read more

I bought dog food from here and instead of having the sale price like online, they keep their dog food the original price. I didn't realize it until after I got home, so I decided to order it online instead since I didn't want to go back to the store and the online sale price is going to be over the following day. Their "sales" suck too. Not enough sales and when there is, you still save nothing. I also ordered online from this place before and the experience was so bad. Instead of sending out my dog flea medicine, they canceled it without telling me. I received nothing about my order except that it's been received. I bought the flea medicine online cause there was a sale going on online for flea medicines. I waited for over a week and had to contact their customer service to find out why my order had not arrived. They finally told me, in chat, that it's been canceled. The flea medicine is no longer on sale either. I will never go here again and I will never order from this online again either. I'd rather spend my money somewhere else. read more

Brought my 2 dogs 1 for bath service and the other for bath and groom. Upon drop off, the groomer assigned to Coco says he will cut down most of Coco's fur to an inch ( she is not matted). It took us almost a year and a half to let her fur grow (acquired her with an awful haircut) to be able to trim her nicely. The groomer did a great job that I brought her back .. This trip, To my dismay, they can't trim her to my expectation but more so to their wanting not the customer's. The worst is that the GROOMER and the SUPERVISOR DENIED, Coco have been groomed there. I insisted they did and that I have to drive 10 miles away for this. They stood their ground and I did too. Been going to THIS same Petsmart for 20 years and this time, I was DENIED of our existence... One less customer for you !!!! read more

Best place to get any pet shopping done in Elk Grove. Great customer service, always willing to help and answer questions. They smile and approach you to make sure you're finding everything alright. They will search near and far if it's not on the floor and etc. They're also quick to clean up doggie accidents. Good prices, especially compared to Petco and etc. One of the cheapest places to get high end dog food (Eukanuba, Royal Canine) Also, the Grooming salon here is amazing. I don't like large chain pet stores. If you've been to one Petsmart you've seen em all and this one is no exception. Generic low quality products at average prices. Any of the cat/dog foods carried here are below the quality of anything I would ever feed my pets, by-products cause cancer and tend to be main ingredients. Most pets can be expected to have behavioral problems, worms/parasites and other ailments. As a professional pet care provider who worked for Petsmart years back, I find taking a close look at the animals disheartening and frustrating as it's impossible to not see disease and inappropriate care. For me I just go here to socialize my dog and grab toys. They do price match with online prices and I always take advantage of this, so for that they get 3 stars. For everything else I need for my pets I go to small mom & pop type places where quality rules over profit. read more

Grooming department is great and always do a good job on my dog baths. Store is always clean and staff are ok, some better then others. Great place to adopt a cat who needs a home. I love how they have the foster kitties there for adoptions. So much better then having puppies from puppy mills. If you want to adopt a cat, come here! Food is WAY overpriced. Compare them to PetClub, go to PetClub for food if you live in Elk Grove. You'll save money that way. For adoption on animals, however, stick with PetsMart. read more

Made an appt on line form my dog for grooming and it was today. I called to confirm and a male worker responded from store and I asked to confirm my appt. I guess the way to book on line is not user friendly and worker said I only have a wash and brush. I can do that my self and will not book an appt. SO I asked the man to connect me to grooming and he said again you booked for wash and brush they cannot add on a separate task. REally? He wouldn't even connect me to as and as he said the groomers can get "fired" if they add on another service to what was originally shcheduled for. FIRED???? I wanted to simply ask the groomers if I can add services and he would not even transfer me. What kind of nonsense is that...very ridiculous way to show great customer service. Horrible groomers at the Elk Grove Laguna Blvd. location. I took one of my dogs there and the woman who trimmed his nails couldn't have been more rude. I watched from the counter so she knew she had to actually trim his nails, but evidently she didn't like me being there because the next time I took him back for another nail trim, she lied to my face and didn't actually trim them. The Coronavirus changed their protocol a bit and clients have to wait outside the lobby now because only one pet parent is allowed inside at a time, so I had to wait in the store instead of watching her, and she actually faked trimming his nails. When I asked her specifically about his dew claws she said, "Oh yes I trimmed them" but when I got home I checked and she did no such thing, in fact she hadn't trimmed any of his nails. I didn't check him there because she was rushing me out the door, not only because someone else was waiting to come in, but because she had just lied to my face and was afraid of being caught. When I called from home to complain a guy answered the phone (there were no male groomers when I was at the store just a few minutes earlier) so I told him I was trying to contact the grooming salon not the main store and he said he was from the grooming salon. When I told him what happened he put me on hold, conjured up a story with the nasty female groomer, then told me I was the one who was "giving them attitude" and that PetSmart and I weren't a good fit!!! I was flabbergasted, told him I had no idea what he was talking about, I wasn't even in the salon while my dog was since they make people wait in the lobby! So they made the entire thing up when the female groomer was caught lying. I still don't have my $15.00 back, I complained on Facebook because PetSmart never answers email, and someone was supposed to contact me in "1-2 days." They haven't. I will NEVER go to PetSmart for anything again. They not only price gouge but they have despicable groomers who hate dogs, who I recently found out by Googling them have been sued for their unprofessional treatment including killing some dogs, and they steal from people, lie about doing service they don't really do. This review is for the grooming salon. I recently brought my cat in, they didn't have her rabies information correct in the computer, and we have been customers there fore the past decade. Some of the groomers are nice, but most of the time they are slightly grumpy and I always feel like when I bring my cat or dog as a walk in it is an inconvenience to the groomers who are grooming dogs that have appointments. They don't allow appointments for nail trims, so of course I am a walk in, I should be made to feel as valuable as the clients who have appointments. They offer anal gland expression for dogs, I have tried that service a few times but they don't do a good enough job. Service at this salon has declined in quality over the past year. I don't plan on bringing my pets back. read more

I prefer PetSmart over Petco. I find that there is generally more variety in products, specifically the clothes and toys. Their sales and clearances are also more generous, which makes them more affordable. I came at the beginning of December and nearly all of their holiday themed products were already on clearance! They sometimes have 15% off printable/mobile online coupons for in-store use so do check. There's a Banfield at this store but I go to another one. I heard from an insider that it's not a great location here. I remember having an unpleasant brief encounter with one of the receptionists and it seems to be true. read more

With my busy schedule and the dogs in desperate need of a full groom I decided to give Petsmart another chance and made a last minute appointment. They had an 8:30 Friday appointment available. Awesome! But because it was a Friday (peak time), cost was an additional $3/dog. So a total of $48/each. Ok...fine. So I arrived at 8:24. 2 groomers were present but not currently grooming any dogs. After telling them I had an 8:30 appointment, I was told that I had to wait 6 minutes to be checked in!!!!! WTH? They explained that our groomer had not yet arrived to work. Ok...fine. I sit and wait 6 minutes...8:30 rolls around...No sorry, can't be checked in yet because our assigned groomer has not yet arrived! 5 minutes later? Nothing..so decided to cancel and leave! Ugh! You're one stop shop for all things animal! PetSmart is my go to place for crickets and super worms to feed my bearded dragon. Their prices are great and the lifespan of the insects is better than standard. I love shopping their discount toys for my dog as she tears any and everything up that I get her (she'd rather play with the squeaker than the entire toy). However, great insects aside, I find the layout of the store confusing and the merchandising messy. When I take the time to look around to see what's offered I feel like I get lost and then get distracted trying to sort through stuff. Overall not a bad store. Prices are competitive and the staff is friendly enough. The corporate office just needs to come in and revamp the layout to improve the overall feel of the store. read more

This is a much better PetSmart than the one on Stockton Blvd. It's cleaner, smells nice, and the staff is more friendly. They also have an adoption center where quite a few cats are looking to be adopted - great place to go if you want a cat! They are all so cute and I wished I could have taken them all home with me. Great selection of birds and fish as well. The birds are adorable! Overall, great PetSmart location, just wish I lived closer! read more

This review is for their grooming center. Called ahead for an appointment 2 weeks in advance and upon making it, let them know that my dog was elderly and required caring hands and patience. The day comes and I drop my dog off. She wasn't ready until SIX hours later. What on earth are you doing with my dog for 6 hours?! Upon pickup they tell me that my dog is no longer welcome to be groomed there, simply because she got fatigued standing for such long periods of time and tried to sit down out of comfort too many times, resulting in an inconvenience on the groomer. My dog is sixteen years old! Of course she cannot stand for 6 hours straight! Do these groomers not have experience working with all types and ages of dogs? Each dog is different and unique, the groomers should be trained on handling small dogs, large dogs, puppies and seniors. Ridiculous. read more

I frequent this PetSmart often. It is spacious and clean. The staff are friendly and are proactive in offering help. When we have bad weather, I like to bring my pup here to do some indoor walking and expose him to their variety of sights, smells and sounds. I find it cheaper than PetCo but more expensive than PetClub (two other large stores in the area). PetSmart has convenient hours, so it's a great place to get what you need. However, I wouldn't and don't buy pet food at this store because they don't sell the higher quality brands that I feed my dog. While they devote a lot of shelf space to a large variety of dog food, most of these, frankly, are crap-to-medium quality. If you want high quality dog food, go five minutes down the road to Pets To Go, or even check out some of the brands at PetClub. We had our puppy groomed here once, and were quite pleased with the results (though it wasn't a breed-specific grooming style, he did come out looking good). We'll probably go back to them for this service. I'm not sure about their dog training. Their classes seem to be on the cheaper side. I had filled out their cards a couple of times to have one of their trainers contact me, but no one ever did. That was a little disappointing, but since they aren't the only dog-training game in town, it wasn't a big deal to me, personally. I just took that business elsewhere. read more

I have been taking my dog for grooming for 5 years. Today I quit! I had an appoint. And when I showed up they said there was another dog ahead of me and he would have to sit in a cage & wait for her to finish. I said I have an appointment and some rude groomer from the back yells "we always say 2 hours in case of walk-Ins" I said, I have an appointment and do not want him sitting in a cage while you take care of walk-Ins. So she says, "you can pay $11.00 to expedite the grooming" WHAT? I pay $40 & tip and have an appointment!!! I cancelled & complained to a manager. I will never go to Petsmart for grooming again. Waste of time and you will be treated like dirt!!! read more

All Petsmarts are relatively the same in respect to the store layout, selections, etc. This one is no different. There are discounts scattered throughout for PetPerks cardholders- it's free, and can really make a difference when purchasing bulk or multiple items, so do it! Unfortunately it doesn't offer all the amenities of my Petsmart of choice out in Folsom, including Doggie Day Care and boarding. They do, however, have an on-site Banfield Pet Hospital. I have never used Banfield, but hear that they are comparable in price to other local vets and that it's convenient. They do offer a reputable grooming service by appointment as well. This one also has a cat adoption area tucked on the far wall that is always there; on weekends, they also partner with two companies nearby called LapCats and another that sets up station outside with shelter dogs and puppies for adoption. I go to this particular shop because of the convenience as well as the service. I enjoy bringing my dog in just to browse or for special community events. They know him by name and breed :) I also appreciate the abundance of 'clean-up stations' around the store, something not as noticeable or utilized at Petco. This is our store of choice close to home. read more
