Many years ago when I lived in Fountain Valley, I would frequent this pet store... until I was attacked by a customers dog. I was wearing brand new jeans, and the dog ripped my jeans, cut my leg, and no one gave a single care. The dogs owner yelled at me, when I was literally standing looking at an item and not even at her or her dog, when it attacked me. The cashier did nothing, the manager did nothing, and corporate did nothing when I wrote to them about the situation. I never set foot in this store again, until yesterday... I was looking for a specific item that was sold out at almost every Petsmart, but online showed this store had one. So I went in, didnt see it... and was asked by the Natures Balance guy if I needed help with anything. He helped me look for the Skull Martha Stewart Dog Bed I needed.... and he asked an actual employee of Pet Smart who just shoved him off, no surprise there. My friend happened to see the one small bed on the top shelf in the back of the store and screamed OMG I FOUND IT, lol. This man went to get an employee to help me, with a ladder, and returned with the ladder himself and got the bed down for me. My VERY generous three stars are for the Natures Balance food man helping me. Not for a single employee in this store, ever. This location is usually not too busy unless you're waiting for fish. The few times we've purchased fish it always seems someone is ahead of me. But the checkout line isn't usually longer than 3 people long so that's a plus. The parking lot is massive so you can always find a spot, even with Costco members spilling all the way down to PetSmart. The only difficulty coming here is getting in the lot, usually because of the Costco traffic. If you enter off of Newhope you can avoid most of the madness. We came here for dog training and our trainer was very nice and knowledgeable. We learned so much and I would say the training worked quite well. This review is specifically for the petsmart dog training classes that we enrolled our westie pup, Marley. We started with puppy level, $124 for 6 sessions (once per week). After our first experience at training, we decided to enroll Marley for the second part, immediate training with the same instructor, Shiloh. I am so happy with our results and Marley had the best time each session. Our second session was another $124/ 6 weeks. Our trainer was so loving, passionate, and knowledgeable about the specific breeds. I really appreciated her patience and compassion toward these animals. A HUGE shoutout to Shiloh W for all her hard and dedication to teaching our pup the past 12 weeks and providing us with some tips/ tricks as first time dog owners. This location will not honor the marked down price for an item which was mistakenly "parked" on a shelf for products with "no home" (see photo). Even after showing this item to the manager, Quy, she chose not to honor the clearance price. Her rationale was that although it was their mistake, she cannot honor the marked down price because it was too discounted from the regular, retail price of $19.99. The best she was willing to do was go down to 50% percent for $9.99. However, later that evening, I went online and noticed the price was even LOWER than that (see photo)! Every location is slightly different and even though it's a little further to me than the location off of Adams and Brookhurst. This location is larger and has a better selection. Starting off strong, I walk in and all staff is just talking by the shelves instead of greeting the guest. A hello goes a long way. Training for staff is needed to cover the basics of customer services starting when the client walks in. Went in for a stand alone grooming service, which staff Isabella was able to accommodate and let me know I can come back when needed without appointment. Came in today and a frazzled older woman with dark black hair and some greys shouts from the back of the room, "can I help you?" I asked for a stand alone nail trim, which Isabella stated I can come back and get. The older woman tells me in a rude and unprofessional tone that she is busy doing an express service and cannot accommodate a service. Instead of offering me to wait or give me an estimate wait time, she instead badgered staff Isabella when I mentioned that she was the one that told me I can come by for a stand alone. When speaking of Isabella, she stated "oh she is new here, she doesn't know what she is doing, she hasn't worked here long." Her rude tone, unprofessional attitude, and unnecessary criticism of her new coworker told me everything I needed to know. I don't want to bring my dog somewhere where they rush everything and have a bad attitude while handling people's loved ones, their dogs. I used to tell people this was a great welcoming place, even told my niece that they should work here. Now i know this place condones unprofessional behavior from their employees. Laura in pet grooming is absolutely wonderful. I have two dogs with very different issues that makes them troublesome to groom. Not only did Laura take their issues in stride, she successfully used accommodations to give them beautiful haircuts (the best I've ever seen them!). For the first time, my pups were happy and calm when my husband and I picked them up. When I was younger I got a lot of my pets from here, it used to be a fun and nice environment. As of recently i decided to buy a hamster with my friend. Here, we were immediately treated harshly by this woman with pink hair, and another woman with straight shoulder length dark hair and other personelle. It was almost like us just asking for help bothered them immensely. when we asked politely if they could show us the hamsters they loudly sighed to show we were inconveniencing them. When we wanted to use the restroom they yelled "we said we'd send someone" even though i only asked once. After returning a hamster for her own reasons( she just didn't feel like they were the right fit) they almost were laughing when we returned them, and when i said i wasn't going to get another one one of them said "right." with attitude??? i understand that us returning them twice probably looked suspicious but we weren't ill intentioned, the animals just weren't the right matches. this fountain valley location needs some customer service lessons. as someone with a service job myself, i know how it can be hard to keep a smile during the job but wow these people were unbelievably rude from the start. I never thought i'd make a karen yelp review, but the service here genuinely was terrible, before we returned anything. i was actually scared to return this pet- and on top of that, we are young so the fact that we were treated this way by older people who were supposed to be helping us was genuinely disappointing. i can see how the second return might've looked weird to an outsider perspective, but at the end of the day they're getting paid and their lack of friendless was so uncomfortable. i just hope that they become nicer to new customers so that other people have a better experience than us. glad there's multiple locations, cause i'd rather drive farther away than feel that way again. read more

If you're a puppy parent with fur babies even other pets this is another good store to shop for your pet's needs. What's good is this location is a large store with lots of different brands from regular to organic. I spoil my puppy with Wellness organic dog food with the mini filet's, toppers and small breed puppy dry food. Fuchsia my Maltese puppy does not like eating the same wet puppy food everyday so if if I mix in some other wet food like toppers from Core or Mini Filet's from Wellness with her regular puppy wet food she will most likely gobble it up like she is having a Thanksgiving feast. It's a good idea to mix other wet food within the same brand when it makes their meals satisfying. This way you're giving them different nutrients on a daily and weekly basis. I don't think any puppy or dog wants to eat the same thing everyday not even you. I do suggest that you don't make the wet food too wet like pour less juices or gravy especially with long fur or haired dogs the juices from the wet food soaks onto their fur or hair then you will have to wipe them up or wash their face unless you want it to smell like wet dog food. If you have a smaller dog give them smaller potions and freeze their potions in small bowls. I do meal prep on a weekly basis when Fuchsia doesn't eat the whole can of food when she is a toy breed. I need to cut up the food then add some mini filet's or toppers then wrap up the food in smaller bowls to put in the freezer. I take one small bowl out of the freezer the night before then put in the fridge to thaw out when I cut her food in smaller cubes. I think for larger dog meal preps let it thaw a little on the kitchen counter then place it in the fridge so it won't be too frozen in the morning. read more

After our horrible O Udon experience we came over here to waste a few minutes before heading on over for a doctor appointment up the street. We've actually adopted two cats from this location one of which is still with us. I even held my first tarantula here at this store which is amazing being that I'm arachnophobic. Cool store if you need stuff for your pets or you need to purchase a pet. Of course on this visit we had to buy a Christmas stocking full of toys for our cat which we've hung up on the stair railing. I called 4 other grooming places and nobody groom cats! Why would people even called their business 'Dog and Cat Grooming' or 'Pets Groomer' then refused to groom cat? So deceiving and false advertising. Anyways, not all PetSmart groom cats, but this specific one in Fountain Valley does. Why is that? The groomer here is comfortable with grooming cats. My cat came in with drools because she gets car sick and was stressed out with being in a room with other dogs. The groomer suggested to give my cat the aromatherapy to calm her down since it seems to work with other cats in the past. Hmm, aromatherapy for my cat? As I was tossing and turning last night, I tried to cuddle with my little furry friend. Turns out, my little furry friend was a little smelly. Bath time. Needed. Pronto. This afternoon my sister and I headed out to Costco and we had plans to go to visit Petco after. Well what do you know? A Petsmart. Perfect. No need to drive all the way to Bristol. We walked through the busy parking lot and as soon as we walked in...ADORABLE KITTENS. My heart melted. You get one star Petsmart. I'd probably get kicked out of my home if I brought in another animal. Dismiss adopting a kitten and the search for dog shampoo begins. The store is huge and it's very clean. Hooray. You've earned an additional star. My sister and I found the shampoos and we were trying to decide which one to chose. I then realized that while we were smelling the different shampoos a plus sized lady (who works there) was standing at the end of the aisle just staring at us. I first saw her from the corner of my eye and ignored her. She didn't leave. She just stood there. She didn't pretend to clean or look around. SHE JUST STOOD THERE. WATCHING. After a few minutes, I turned to look at her and smiled but she gave me a blank look and stared on. Feeling awkward. I turned the second time and smiled a second time. Still awkward. I grabbed a shampoo and went to pay for it. I've worked retail before when dinosaurs ruled the world. Employees do that for one reason...when they think you're gonna steal something. The best method to prevent that from happening is to approach the person and ask if they need help. That woman made me feel like a criminal. I like that the store is organized looking. Other than that, my experience here was not great. Came here to buy a parakeet, and it took them 15 minutes to get someone to help get my parakeet. Turns out, the person who they sent to me told me that he sucks at getting the parakeets (they can fly) and told me he will get someone else. Fast forward anther 10 minutes, and a girl comes to help me with the parakeets. She is unable to catch the one I picked, taking another 7-10 minutes trying to figure out how to get the parakeet. I offered to go in the cage room to catch the one I picked myself, but employees are only allowed to. I kept my cool, but was irritated that the employee helping me was incompetent. The more time passes as she's swiping the net around, the more stressful the birds get...which can cause health issues within the birds. I lost my patience and told her to turn off the lights in the cage room. Parakeets cannot see well in the dark, so catching them would be easier if it's dark. She finally was able to catch the one I pointed out, and then stated, "I didn't know they can't see in the dark." Petsmart needs to train their employees. Here is the part where I get even more irritated. I asked the employee to clip the parakeet's wings. She proceeded to take him into a room where I can't see and takes 15-20 minutes in there doing God Knows What. As the time passes, I started suspecting the girl employee did not know how to clip the poor bird's wings. She was probably scaring the crap out of the bird and not getting the job done. She finally comes out with the bird, and I can see that the wings are hardly clipped. The poor birds wings were clipped unevenly, and it's long flight feathers looked tattered due to the incompetent employee not knowing how to clip the wings. I paid for my stuff, along with the parakeet who has probably been through a nightmare. Came home, and as suspected, the parakeets wings are not clipped properly. He started flying all over the house, hyperventilating in his new environment. I had to catch him, and clip his wings myself. This was absolute unnecessary stress for the baby parakeet I brought home, and would not have happened if PETSMART TRAINED THEIR EMPLOYEES PROPERLY. The bird supplies are overpriced too. By the way, I named the baby parakeet I got Bubbles. Bubbles had a horrible experience Petsmart. At least he can now live in my parakeet mansion for the time being. read more

THIS REVIEW IS FOR KITTEN GROOMING: I brought my kitten here to be groomed but was told that they only provide those services on the weekdays so I opted to just have my kittens nails trimmed since they were extremely long and sharp and to have her ears cleaned since its never been done before. The girl who was assisting us was very nice and was very sweet to my kitten by she did a terrible job cutting her nails. Out of 18 nails, I had to ask for 6 of them to be re-cut because they were extremely uneven, jagged or it looked like she had a hang-nail. Again, the girl was very accommodating and had no issue with re-doing the work BUT it should have been done correctly in the first place. The total price for her services was $21 ($12 for nail trim, $9 for ear cleaning) which is the cost of a pair of nail trimmers. Next time, I will be doing this myself. read more

Understaffed. Grooming is pretty good here depending on whomever does it. But there are issues in other departments. First, it's hard to find anyone for service at this location. And they often have only one checker with a constant line. Plus, I've never seen so many dead aquarium fish at a Petsmart before as I did on this past visit. Someone should be removing them for the health of the fish. Plus it's unsightly. It isn't always like that here, but it still worries me. Death and disease are so easy to introduce to a home aquarium. Pet supply prices are average here, animals are usually a better value. Everything here is cheaper than Petco. But Walmart beats them both. These days I only come here to kill time with the kiddies, since I prefer buying from a good local pet shop instead. Im hardly one to complain but I was just there to get my 4mo puppy's nails trimmed. Before walking into the little grooming lobby there's a sign that says one pet family at a time, because of the layout you can't really tell if there's someone in there so I poked my head in and immediately one of the workers said oh no you can't be in here right now. I end up walking around for a bit then eventually go back. I also understand that's there are polices in place that workers have to abide by, with that being said they asked if my puppy had his rabies vaccine I said no the vet told me he should get it when he's 5 months. The lady who was checking me in still asked the initial worker who was rude if there was still a possibility that he could get them trimmed and she immediately said um no. My issue here was the lack of customer service in the grooming department. There were a few different ways she could've interacted with me without being distasteful. read more

They get to know my baby and they're so flexible with my schedule, I felt bad rescheduling many times. They have appointments as early at 7AM, and latest as 5PM on a weekday, except Wednesday! I really like this Petsmart. It's my favorite one out of the whole Fountain Valley/Westminster/Garden Grove area. About 5 months ago when my puppy had fleas I called 2 different Petsmart (the one on Garden Grove and Brookhurst and the one on Beach and Edinger) and neither had the Zodiac brand flea and tick spray for pets. I called this location and the employee confirmed they had it in stock. When I got there, I also found Zodiac brand flea and tick spray for carpet and upholstery. I told the cashier my story and she told me that this location is usually stocked the best because it's larger than the other locations. Bonus for me, it's the closest one to my house! Today me and my boyfriend came in with our 2 puppies and were looking for a big new temperpedic bed for them. We saw one online that was originally $50 but was on sale for only $25. When we got there, they were all out so we told a cashier and the manager came out and told us he would price match ANY bed we want that's $50 or under for $25. We ended up getting 2 $50 large temperpedic dog besd for only $25 each. Basically BOGO!! We walked around the store some more and saw cute shoes I wanted to get for my puppy. An employee saw me looking at them and offered to open the package so I could try them on my dog. How considerate! He looked so cute in his new shoes but he walked funny in them. They do not have my service on their apps drop down menu so I must call. I guess the store manager doesn't care enough to direct employees how important answering the phones really is. When in the store heard the phone ring 15 times and NO ONE blinked an eye at answering it. Finally another caller had it ring 12 times then a girl decided to answer. Wow.
