This Petco is on Adams (and Magnolia) near Smart & Final and has plenty of parking. It's a smaller store but always seems to have what I need when I order online for pick up. Historically, I have received wide ranging customer service from employees who are friendly to borderline rude. I guess it just depends on who is working on the day I visit. THIS REVIEW IS SOLEY FOR THE GROOMING FACILITY. This was my first grooming appointment for Finn with Petco. I've been so busy lately and my little cockapoo needed some TLC as his long curly hair was becoming very long and unmanageable. He also desperately needed a sanitary trim along with ears and nails. After booking, the groomer confirmed my appointment by text. It was nice to receive a text as sometimes it's challenging to get a live person on the phone. I rushed late out of work for the appointment & txt messaged so and quickly received a reply back. I was grateful she could still get us in when I was running late. She was very responsive and notified me of cutoff time. Once I arrived, the groomer (Claire) took great care in the consult learning about Finn. She asked questions regarding the notes I left regarding his behavior, which I really appreciated. She asked what look we were going for as well. I requested a summer cut to keep his body short, especially his paws bc he often gets very wet from the morning dew. She agreed that the do-over is great to start fresh. I loved the puppy cut for his face, asked to keep his tail long and showed her a few examples of cuts from his past. Finn was ready for pick up within two hours. Claire had told me that if they close exactly at 6p and if it was after I just have to go to the pet store register. When I returned to pick him up, I was pleased. His body was short and his face was cute. Due to his aggression, Claire mentioned she couldn't trim his nails or do his ears, which were the two things I highlighted on his pre-visit questionnaire. She mentioned he might not be a great fit for their salon due to his aggression (which is understandable). I gave her a FAT $20 cash tip and went on my way. One thing I was surprised to see was that there was a discount for services not rendered, but it was fine. His puppy cut was cute. That night, I noticed Finn seemed super anxious which was weird being were in the comforts of our home. I noticed a couple nicks on his belly (maybe rice grain to pea sized) & his tail stayed down where he wouldn't expose his rear. Finn's behavior to leave the house was strange as well. Whenever I pulled out his leash, he hid under the sofa. He'd also shake non-stop. It was just so unlike him. Then, I finally noticed he had a HUGE SCAB on the bottom tip of his left ear. Apparently, there were more than the nicks on Finn's belly. It's no wonder he doesn't want to leave the house!!! I was so upset!!! I had a phone conversation with Sarah, the grooming manager. She was so kind to explain what potentially happened. She explained some dogs shake their head a lot offer grooming and maybe something ruptured. She also reassured me she was in the grooming room the whole time and there was no incident. She was generous with her time to reassure me which I appreciated. Unfortunately, it's been weeks and Finn is still hides under the couch anytime we need to go out. This behavior never occurred before grooming with Claire. I spoke to another person who's taken their dog to the same grooming facility and mentioned their dog behaved strangely post-grooming. The description of the groomer matched. I don't think it's any fault of the manager, but maybe Claire just needs more training if dogs are leaving their facility traumatized. I honestly feel a little let down because I LOVE this location of Petco. I drive all the way from Costa Mesa just because I LOVE Dr O'Connor & his amazing staff at Vetco. I, then, grew to love the store associates & managers here. This groomer left a sour taste in my mouth and it's a sad! I honestly can't recommend this particular groomer esp if I'm hearing someone I know had noticed a change in his dog post-groom with the same groomer, but I know there are many more groomers there who've done it for years. I would definitely request someone else since it seems to be an occurrence. 5/5 for Grooming Manager customer service (Sarah) 4/5 for Puppy Cut, customer service for being accommodating 2/5 for not doing all the services requested and still having to pay for it (sanitary trim) -5/5 (negative 5/5) for Finn's continued post-groom trauma read more

This review pertains to the grooming salon experience over the past year, as well as the general lack of cleanliness of the store. The store floor could use a good sweep and mopping due to the numerous staining and dog hair everywhere. I'm not sure who is responsible for cleaning this facility but something ought to be done. The bathroom looks horrendous no matter when I go. It's absolutely disgusting. The floor has tissues and urine stains. The big spider and the cobweb has been there for months. The sink is abominable. The shoes shouldn't feel sticky or wet on the floor. The grooming salon needs improvement. I have chosen to finally write a review about my experiences as I don't plan on returning again. My dogs hates getting their nails trimmed especially due the recent incident. Supposedly, one of my dogs who is known to be easy to nail trim was being wiggly and Sara lost control of the grinding tool. I heard my dog make blood curdling screams I have never heard her make in the nearly 7 years I have owned her. I also heard the groomer berating my rescue dog. It also sounded like she had actually slapped my dog behind the closed door. I had to look for a store employee and beg for my dog to be returned. He didn't believe me when I told him what was going on and why I wanted him to go retrieve my dog. There were other employees working at the grooming salon too. The employee who is apparently the manager there gaslighted me with Sara. I was told that everything sounds scary when you can't see what's happening behind closed doors. My dogs returned to me shuddering and with missing fur on her paw pads. I felt so guilty for putting her through such hell. This was one of the most horrifying nail trim visits I have had there and I am still appalled after a whole month since the incident. I have also had my appointments with Sara last minute canceled at least 4 times this year while I was driving in traffic on the way there. Twice because the register wouldn't be open because it's too early and twice because she's sick or simply unavailable. Or that she had to leave early for the day. I called back the salon but nobody answered to let me reschedule or cancel. It's hard to reschedule on the app when driving in bad 405 traffic. Why even offer appointments early in the morning for nail trims if the store itself isn't open and requires checking out from the front of the store? The lack of apologies and nonchalant nature of cancelling or showing up late so often shouldn't have become such a daily occurrence. The appointments also won't start on time a lot of times especially if it's in the morning. Afternoons slots aren't much better. There will be no apologies given either. Not to me, or customers patiently waiting before or after me. We just all stand there awkwardly waiting. So keep that in mind if you like your stuff to be done on-time or have other places to go. Lastly, I don't recommend getting your dog bathed here due to both of my dogs having ear infections shortly afterwards. Something that the hounds are prone to if their ears aren't properly cleaned or dried. I used to prefer having my dogs get groomed here due to the convenience from work to the salon location. Best to steer away for the safety and comfort of your pet. We as owners must advocate for our pet safety because we are their lifelines and they cannot call us or verbally convey what's happening. read more

Josh is the most patient and kind employee, I came in tonight and fell in love with one of the snakes there. I wasn't prepared for another reptile in my life so I was back and forth the whole time I was there. Not only did Josh give me space to think it over and answer every single question I had, he was understanding and not annoyed by me (which he had every right to be) checking prices, checking stock on things, he truly went above and beyond for me today. Every time I come in your staff acts like it's their first day. It's getting really frustrating. Getting crickets is a chore here... put it in the front like other Petcos, cause your people just disappear back there and take forever to get them. I only come here when I have to because you never have large crickets and every time the staff asks if I need egg crate, I say yes, and they NEVER put one. The conditions for the animals have not gotten any better since my last visit. This time i visited the guinea pigs and was surprised to see so many there, in the dark, and in filth. Their nails are all quite long and curling and twisting which is quite uncomfortable to stand on. Many were also quite itchy and this one had scabs and hair loss. These conditions do not happen overnight. You can smell their enclosures well before you reach them. The one employee i talked to to ask a question about stocking was quite high and clueless so i left. The fish tanks were all gross, with dead and sick or stressed fish and pest snails. read more

The restrooms are filthy! Today I used the women's restroom while my dog was with the Vet. The sink was so dirty it had a 3 inch film of dirt in the basin. The infant changing table had cob webs and spiders right near it. There was a sign that read please see the store manager if the restroom does not meet your expectations. I reported the condition of the restroom to Dan, the store manager on 8/16/25. He thanked me for letting him know. Later on I saw Dan, the store manager and he went on making excuses for the dirty restroom. He said last night it was cleaned. (Which the dirty sink and cob webs were still there this afternoon at 12:00 pm) Dan, the store manager chose to make excuses for the unsanitary conditions (he as manager is keeping at the Petco store.) He went on to say the store customers leave it filthy with blood and tampons on the floor. Which was very inappropriate to say. The OSHA health & safety commission should cite this store for an unsanitary, unhealthy environment. I will be reporting this to them as well. read more

We've been to this Petco for vet visits and shopping, and decided to try out grooming yesterday. I booked the appointment via the app and tried to not have too high of expectations based on my bad experience at at another store. When we arrived, we found grooming located to the left of the entrance past the vet. I noticed you could see straight into the grooming area and it looked very clean and sterile. I rang the bell, and even though we were a few minutes late, Claire greeted us with a friendly face. I was asked to answer a few questions and then we were set. As she began to take my pup into the back, I realized that she hadn't asked how I wanted him cut and styled. She shared with me that she wasn't certified to cut hair, but that she could do a face, feet and fanny trim. I thought this was odd, but later realized that this was something that is not included in the "bath" selection - I needed to have chosen "bath and haircut" on the app to get what I needed (hope this helps so you don't make the mistake I did!). She told me to come back a few hours later, which worked perfectly because I had a doctor's appointment in-between. When I finished up at the doctor, I saw that I had missed a text saying that my pup was ready (about an hour and a half earlier than expected). I learned that they are able to crate the dogs in the back after their grooming so I didn't feel too bad about missing the text. When I went to pick him up, Claire was occupied, but I was able to ask her about the self-washing area for next time - $20 and they give you everything you need - shampoo, conditioner, styling tools, etc. Definitely going to try this out after a trip to the beach! I paid $80 with vital care for this groom (and not the one I had needed, with the haircut), so it's good to know that this option is available. Based on my experience, I would come back here for grooming, but would ensure that I book the right service. I would also recommend the vet here as well - if you do come here, sign up for vital care - all visits are free and you get product / grooming discounts and coupons so it's worth it! read more

Petco beats out the other big box pet stores. First don't know the manager but they know how to hire happy people. Thats something you cannot train. Good job manager! Then there is the trainer/therapist I've been seeing. I bring my dog for morale support lol. Cameron is awesome. He really knows his stuff and has helped my 72lb pit mix to obey and take the stress off me. I rescued this dog on Halloween night. He had so much anxiety and fear. I believe that the training has helped him to know what is expected of him. He is a pleaser dog for sure. I come in to bathe him in the self service baths. $20 and they provide soap,towels, scrub brush and comb. They also have the blower dryers available. I use the other big box for the daycare/ hotel because petco does not offer that service. I buy my food and supplies from petco as they have an awesome return policy. I have returned items within 90 days with no questions asked. Having your phone number set up in their system helps so I do not need to worrying about the receipt. To all the other employees I have met at this petco Amy loves my Mr. EZ, Dan is very knowledgeable. Justin is friendly and helpful. I was at the Petco Store on Adams Avenue in Huntington Beach this morning to pick up my online order. I walked into the checkout area and saw a young man. He stared at me and asked, "What are you here for?' Very authoritarian the way he stared at me and the way he asked. Employees at the store normally just ask, "Can I help you?" but not this guy. I'm Asian and maybe that is how he always looks and talks to minority people. Very unfriendly the way he looked at me and the way he asked the question. I told him I was here to pick up an online order. His reply was, "doordash or online?" Maybe he thinks I'm a doordash person, not a customer. He searched and found my order. He came over and handed me my order when I was trying to open the email on my phone so I could show him the online order email. With both hands on the phone, I asked him to put my order on the counter. He angrily said he didn't have time for it. He could easily walk a few steps to the cash register and put my order there, but he didn't want to do it. I was surprised he didn't even try to verify my identity before giving me my order. I wasn't happy with the way I was treated. I asked for his name so I could talk to the store manager. He proudly said, "I'm the manager." If a manager is arrogant, had no customer service, didn't do his job properly and treated the customer this way, I better go shop someplace else, such as PerSmart. I'm very surprised. I shopped at this store many times in the past and always had a very nice experience with everyone at the store. I'm 75 years old and have never been talked to in such a disrespectful manner at any store. read more

Grooming, Clare is absolutely clueless. My dog gets groomed at Petco regularly and I have a spaniel who constantly has ear issues, it's part of the breed and it's literally chronic, she is always at the vet for meds or cleanings, monthly. Clare tells me they can't take a dog with an "active ear infection" although she was just groomed at this SAME location 3-4 weeks ago, with the same, chronic ear issues. Literally find a different groomer. Terrible place will never go back. read more

Don't use their " vetco " vet. Unprofessional and don't care about your pet unless you're willing to pay everything they offer. Once you start choosing what you'd like to do your choice will result in vet walking out and not coming back. Went in for my dogs eyes she's been having discharge and instead they related it to skin condition she's had for 2 years and now her eyes are worse and have to go to an actual professional vet. Save your money and your time. They will also keep you waiting in the room for 30 mins+ for the vet to come in for 2 mins. read more

Went to this Petco today for vetco I had booked an appointment online because my cat was wheezing and I wanted to come here since the exam fee is waived off with the vetco total care and the doctor that helped me was absolutely useless she told me my cat was aggressive so they had to take him to the back but before that she tried to take his vitals and he immediately hissed at her like he always does when I take him to my regular vet and they never have a problem and she immediately gave up and didn't even try to take his vitals and just prescribed a amoxicillin that was about $109 bit got it at my local cvs with a couple coupons so only paid $20 but DO NOT COME HERE!!!' read more

I've taken my dog here for grooming for quite some time and I've never had an issue with fleas. Unfortunately, I discovered fleas on my dog after she was groomed there. It's concerning about the sanitation of their facility. We also noticed that all of her nails were not trimmed, and whoever cut her hair did a mediocre job. The service that we received was very disappointing. Our dog was there well over 4 hours, and after all that time, she evidently got a rushed grooming in an unsanitary environment. My doggie Nick need a vet checkup for itching on his paws. I was able to book an appointment through the app the evening before. The vet staff confirmed in the morning via phone. I checked in with Karla. She had a warm smile and took nicks info efficiently. My wait was less than a minute and I was placed into a room. Nurse Lori was amazing and took her time asking questions. I did not feel rushed. Dr. O Conner is wonderful and did not up-sale me. I love that I can trust the vets here. With the economy the way it is.... I really appreciate the honesty. I couldn't be more disappointed with this Petco store. I needed to buy prescription food for my cat. I had my prescription with me, but because I didn't have the bar code that is supposed to be provided by the in-house vet office, the service representative wouldn't sell it to me. When I said, I understand the law requires a prescription, which I have, why won't you sell me the food, the customer service rep said, "Yes, that's the law, but it's our policy that we have to scan the bar code which you don't have." I'd submit that it isn't a policy issue, but an operations failure point to not be able to facilitate a transaction when your customer has the necessary legal documentation to buy the food. I was forced to feed my cat food that it shouldn't have, and will shift all of my purchases to Chewy. "Petco, where Pets can't go to get their food" should be the new tagline. read more

I love this pet store when it has all my pet supplies for all the pets I had over the years. I now have a Maltese puppy named Fuchsia that I spoil with good organic Wellness Small Breed Puppy dry food and Wellness Just for Puppy wet food. She is loving the new food when I am switching her from Royal Canine puppy gel and wet food when I prefer she eats organic food. The store has a good selection of collars, leashes, some outfits and other items for your dog, cat or other pets. This is a small store not large like some other locations with well organized aisles that you can easily find all your items and don't have too far to walk to the cashier to check out your items. The store is very clean and looks like it need some remodeling. There is a good size spacious parking lot too. This is where I shop for my fur baby locally in Orange County. read more

took my poor dog there on Friday 12/29/23 for a nail clip . Brought her home and after her nap I took her for her walk all her four paws started bleeding heavily and continued to bleed for three days every time she stepped outside on the street ! They must have carelessly clipped her nails too short which caused this amount of bleeding . I called them to get some help or assistance in what to do for my dog and they NEVER answer the phone ! The most unprofessional groomers and obviously clueless. my poor dog was bleeding so much and probably in a lot of pain and distress. The staff in the grooming department did a FANTASTIC job grooming my buddy Max. He is a large breed senior and gets tired and wants to laydown. Drying him was a challenge but when I picked him up he was clean and happy. Hats off to the team. Max and I really appreciate the effort. Completely disappointed in the lack of patience by the Vetco staff and vet at this location. I went in for a wellness check, teeth cleaning, vaccinations, and to check for a possible ear infection. My dog can be wary of strangers and need a little bit of time to earn trust before handling him. In prior vet offices, this would be normal protocol for new pet examinations. I wanted to try this Vetco (aka Thrive) veterinarian since it was closer to my home and had a great experience at another location, but further away. Well, after my experience today, I will never come back or recommend this location for quality vet care. Rather than asking the owner to give sedatives to their pet prior to an appointment, how about trying to build trust in your patients first when you meet them? That is medical empathy 101. read more

First of all, the staff was nice and polite, that is not the problem here. Here is the story: I took my dog to this Petco grooming for six years. Even before training, right out of the pound, we always had a good experience (see my previous reviews, all 5 stars). Yesterday, I called to make an appointment for nails, and took him. I realized the whole old grooming team had left, but decided to try. Didn't work out... I tried again today, to avoid a refund,and give the girl another chance. Didn't work out. My dog had been good for six years with the girls, even right out of the pound and now all of a sudden, "he wasn't". So today after it didn't work out again, I was told: "I think he gets nervous with other dogs". WHAT? There are always other dogs. "Well, maybe something changed". "Yes, the staff", I said. I understand that accidents happened and if she pinched him or something, it would be normal that he would pull his paws away, and I would totally understand and not make a big deal of it. But don't tell me that a dog that leads the way, and jumps on the grooming table, "probably forgot and it's not familiar anymore". Nope. Thank God, I kept in touch with one of the girls and she told me that Miranda (from the good Petco grooming team) was still grooming in town, at Salon de Pawz. So I called her and she took us in. She clipped his nails, gave him treats (he was SO happy to see her). The other groomers were super nice also, helped, pet him, and everything ended in a good note. Sorry Petco, you lost your great grooming team, and with that you lost your regular clients, and all the merchandise we purchased while we were there grooming. We are moving to Salon de Pawz, even if it is literally on the opposite corner of the city. read more

This place has the worst customer service I was a long time customer for bringing my dog Skipper to the groomers there. But about three months ago the problems started. I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone to make an appointment. I kept leaving voicemail messages for them to call me back but they never did. So I could never get an appointment for several months. Then finally when I got an appointment through their app I was so excited to get my dog groomed again. But when I went to drop him off they wouldn't touch him because his rabies vaccination had expired. But they Didn't tell me ahead of time so I have no idea that they didn't have the current paperwork. I sat there for about 20 minutes while they tried to call my vet. After 20 minutes I said forget it. I will never bring my dog back here. I just wasted all my time driving down there. They have terrible customer service and terrible communication to the customers. read more

This review is for Thrive. I took my extremely sick pup who had massive anxiety here and Dr Ledesma was so sweet to him. He felt so calm and at ease after their interaction. We were sent home with probiotics and antibiotics for a potential viral infection and he's feeling a lot better. The whole staff there was nice. I highly recommend them! read more

Gladys in the grooming salon does not like to be interrupted while she is texting on her phone and grooming a dog at the same time. Thankfully, the manager Rachel was aware and well spoken. A very bad experience was turned around because this manager knows how to handle things. The cashier barked at me for asking a question, which I did interrupt her, but I was not there for an interview. I was surprised to see so many giant cobwebs in the store, considering how new this unit is. The amount of outs in the store would have embarrassed me as a leader in addition to the excessive amount or dead fish. Overall, the store vibe is please leave me alone, and we don't take pride in our business. The Vetco guy was also on his phone, an African American gentleman, and noticed I was looking at him.
