Petsmart's PetsHotel is a life saver for all those times when your doggie just can't come along on an out of town trip...affordable overnight care with enough amenities to assuage my guilty conscience. This joint is nicer than some of the value places that I've been to. There's a dog theme lobby for checking in. "Elli" gets her own room with her own bed, blanket and toys. Additional walks and play times are available as add-on services. 7am check-in means we can get an early start heading out of town. When we pick her up, there is a report card telling us how well (or not so well) she did with playing, eating and pooping. An extra plus is that we can schedule an exit bath or a full-on grooming session (also extra fees for these) on check-out day so that Elli is sweet smelling when we get her home again. read more

Dog Grooming at This Pet Smart Can be sketchy-- I had a large dog grooming business many years ago in the midwest and helped start one of the First dog Groomer associations in the U.S. I retired from grooming and have a different vocation. Trust me--- I know the work good groomers do. I had two BAD previous trys of this particular location when they groomed our Shih Tzu. By bad I mean uneven, one leg longer than another, head uneven just totally botched up. She also was extremely agitiated. I have no iudea who does the training but obviously it is not good enough and I don't want them practicing on my pet. I finally said "NO MORE". I popped in one day as I love this store to get dog food etc.great selection here. We also use Doggie Day Care and the Pet Motel. I saw a woman in the dog grooming section doing book work. I walked in and complained and asked her how long she had groomed and it was years. In Groomer speak-- I told her my issues; she said come back I will groom your dog. I made the appointment with " Lori " the salon manager. Our dog never looked better, extremely well done. Exactly as I wanted. I will be back, I was impressed. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING If you are impressed by your ability to view your dogs being groomed; realize that every time your beloved pet who is being groomed sees you or someone who LOOKS like their family; they will generally have behavior issues such as moving around , jumping , barking etc. You can't pay in there you have to go to the outside cashiers, another issue as your dog wonders why you left them again? Please also note the scissors and hand held tools groomers use are sharp and your pet being viewed through public windows is not wise. Understand that grooming dogs in cubicles surrounding the grooming table and offerring privacy to your pet is MUCH easier on them. The reason other grooming shops do not want YOU or the general public visible to your pet being groomed is it usually upsets the pet. Close the windows , dogs like privacy & train prospective groomers longer or better . read more

The cat food our cats eat is not sold at Target or grocery stores, so we have to shop at PetSmart. I both love and hate PetSmart. I love it because it's easy to navigate and I can get in and out rather quickly. I love that I can also browse and take my time because there are so many different things to look at. I love looking at the birds, reptiles, small animals but at the same time I hate seeing the animals for adoption because it makes me so sad! I wish I could adopt them all! I usually try to only go on the weekdays, since adoptions are always held on the weekends. I usually need my husband for moral support if we go on the weekends, otherwise I'd come home with 10 new pets every weekend! read more

I take my little pooch to the Petsmart Hotel here when we absolutely have to board him. He seems to love it! He always enters and leaves lookig pretty happy! The rooms are big enough and you can see into the boarding room and I liked that so that I could see that is clean and roomy enough for him! They offer so many options for them while they are staying that it is a lot like camp! Even though we try to take him with us as much as possible, this is the place I take him when we are away! I have to only give it four starts though because I agree one one writer...not much of a selection of items! read more

All your pet needs - 1 roof. Vet service good, although big vet change-over. Reasonably priced, espcially on days like Tues & Thurs 1-3 (times/days change, so ck in advance) where u do not pay the $25 exam fee - big difference if you have several pets. (Yup, i have 3 dog, 3 cats: makes a difference!) Meca for hundreds of products - i just wish more clearance, sales, coupons and customer appreciation discounts. Groomers ok, although last time they changed their policy with me & wouldn't not let me hold my 5lb Chi~Chi while nails getting clipped, the guy was quite rough & brisk in grabbing her and snipping, so I left w.o him finishing. In the past, they used to let you hold while they clipped all the nails in 60 seconds flat - worked for me! Overall, I'll still be back for pet basic needs, but not the groomers. read more

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Went in for help with a red-eared slider turtle that I inherited. The internet has way too much info and I really just wanted to talk to someone who is a turtle expert. I figured that I would end up with a well meaning teenager who would pretend to be a fountain of knowledge but didn't know the difference between a tortoise and a turtle. Boy, was I wrong (thank goodness). Max was amazing. He is extremely knowledgeable about anything reptile. I suspect he knows everything about mammals, fish and birds too but we stuck to the subject of reptiles. I really appreciated his help and interest. We needed a place to leave our pets while attending daytime events in the Scottsdale area. The pet Day Care service at PetSmart's PetsHotel was just the thing. The staff was very friendly and helpful to first timers, and very good with our dogs, one of whom is a howler. Our cat and both dogs came out looking happy and all three were excited to go back again. Our first visit was on a Sunday, and we were pleased that this was not a hassle. There seems to be plenty of staff. The play areas are indoors, and smaller than what our dogs are used to, but that didn't seem to be a problem. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the discount our PetPerks card gave us. This made the cost very reasonable. With a service like this available, there's NO excuse for leaving a pet in a parked vehicle. read more

My cat Tokyo comes to this location to get her nails trimmed. The cat groomer is very professional and handles Tokyo with care. Tokyo's nails are always clipped even better then when I take her to the vet for the same service! The nail trimming is a walk in service, just be sure to call to make sure the groomer is in. read more

I will not shop at PetSmart due to this locations customer service. The salesperson refused to sell me a fish stating that my tank was too small. This is a dime sized fish that I have owned most of my 25+ years of having tanks. Hailey did not ask anymore questions, like would I be upgrading my tank later. Rude to judge a customer without clarification! I also saw employees giving treats to dogs after being asked not to by their owners. PetSmart, you need to retrain your staff on good customer service instead of thinking they know it all. I will spend my hundreds a year elsewhere. read more

Very unhappy with the way we and our dog were treated today. We went in for what was supposed to be a quick nail grinding for front paws only for our well tempered short haired 10 pound dog.. They asked if we would like him to be shampooed and we replied 'not if there is a wait'. They assured us there would be no wait as they could get them right in. We emphasized that we did not want him in a cage for an hour. They said they understood . After 2 hours our dog was still not ready. After speaking to the manager and expressing how unhappy we were with the time it took for the dog's bath, she said that he was being dried now. After another 20 minutes my husband just demanded to get our dog back as is and he was still very damp. Two of the nails were ground to a sharp point worse than they were when we brought him in. Very difficult time working with this business. We have used them twice yearly for my dog. They require rabies shot verification. We had one on file within the past year. They said we did not, and that we had to get Banfield (which is literally in the same store) to call them to verify. We asked if they could call Banfield. They said no. We asked Banfield to call them (this is getting ridiculous), but Banfield said no, too! They said Pet Smart had to call. Pet Smart said we don't do that. Ugh! read more

I've been coming to this location ever since it opened. I acquired one of my rescue kitties here. In my experience the store is always clean, well-stocked, and there are helpful associates around. My most recent experience this evening, though, is the reason I'm yelping about them. Daniel is an employee who deserves recognition. I'd ordered dry cat food online, both to save myself time and money (15% off purchase by ordering online, AND the initial price was literally MORE THAN FOUR DOLLARS less than the on-shelf price!!). What I didn't realize until after receiving a confirmation email was that since I had ordered it less than 2 hours within closing time, my order wouldn't be ready until tomorrow. Ugh. I called and asked if I could please pick it up tonight; the young lady on the phone was very polite and said they could do it, no problem, but that it would likely result in me having to purchase the item in the store and they'd cancel my online transaction. I get it-- computers need to process things. But I couldn't afford to pay again and wait for my account to be credited (times are tough and I desperately needed the money for groceries and gas, and I needed it tonight, not in three or four days when the money would be back in my account). That's when Daniel helped me. I walked in, explained things to him, and in no time he plucked a bag from the shelf for me and took care of it. I'm so happy it didn't take a manager to override anything (at least not in my presence or on my schedule) and I SAVED FIVE BUCKS by ordering online!!! I have been going to this location to board my pets because the employees at the PetHotel have always been attentive and reassuring, and they seem like they care. Recently, there is a new young girl there who has not yet learned the definition of customer service. She has an attitude and it got worse when I pointed out an error.. she talks down to customers decades older than her and seems to think she runs the place. I just hope she cares for the pets much better than she cares for the people who pay to board! read more

I took my dog to this PetSmart for a bath. I was visting from out of town, and had no experience with the groomers here, but how can you screw up a simple bath? Well, when I picked up my dog, she emerged from the back room with her front legs covered in blood. The groomers told me "Oh, she must have caught her dew claws while pawing at the crate door." We walked her over to the in-store vet to get cleaned up and checked out. The vet's assistant also determined that she must have caught her dew claws on the crate door. My dog does have separation anxiety, and that's why I asked the groomers to call me as soon as she was done with her bath. I was there within five minutes of receiving the call. She's been to other groomers, and I sometimes crate her at home. She doesn't like it, but she's never bloodied herself. After I got my dog home, she became lethargic and wouldn't move. When she finally did get up, she made a loud yelp. I checked her out, and she yelped more as I moved one of her legs, so it was clear something more was wrong than just a pulled dew claw. I returned to the vet at the store (and this time saw a vet, not an assistant). She said that my dog likely sprained her ankle, and that we could do x-rays, but that my dog probably wouldn't be able to stand at all if she had broken something. But perhaps the most disconcerting thing is that the vet mentioned that she's seen other dogs coming out of the groomers with injured paws. The crates apparently have wire mesh floors - not smooth floors like you'd have in a home crate - and that dogs can hurt themselves if they paw at the floor. The store did pay for the vet visit and pain medication for my dog - it would have been ridiculous had they not - but how can they continue to use unsafe crates? And is their policy to simply ignore dogs who are freaking out and may be hurting themselves in these unsafe crates? read more

How do these people even tie their shoes??? I take a (what I thought was stray) cat in here to be checked out and was told after the office visit that she is not spayed (they did shave her). So my friend and I took her to a neuter/spay clinic for $75 to do the actual procedure, only to find out from their staff THAT SHE WAS ALREADY SPAYED! Petsmart shaved her too far up, in the stomach area. A letter to Petsmart pointing out their error and asking for reimbursement of the $75 was not responded to. Hence this *glowing* review of their knowledge of cat anatomy. This review can only be removed upon reimbursement of that $75. read more

Love this PetSmart been going here to take my dogs for years and love the employee's. They're always very helpful and can always help find exactly what I'm looking for when I walk in. Only complaint I'd have is some of the management in the hotel. I've boarded my dogs there a few times and some days are better than others usually when I'm dealing with Christina or Abby. The other manager Jackie however doesn't seem to know what she's doing majority of the time and seems lost on how to manage everything. If I was an employee under her I wouldn't be very confident in her ability to manage time and tasks to get everything done like it should and think maybe she needs to do more training to enhance how she manages the hotel better. The way I've seen her treat her staff is the definition of micromanaging and power hungry as if she has no control in her life. This sounds horrible to say but speaking the truth is better than sugar coating the disaster she's running in that hotel. My advice would be switching her out with someone else or finding someone more competent that can manage the hotel efficiently while treating the staff with respect. read more

Pretty bummed. My dog has been using petsmart for everything. We use Banfield. She's loved doggy daycare. She occasionally needs a professional bath and nails trimmed. I picked her up last night she was still wet! Luckily it's hot out. She has matts in her hair! Her nails are not trimmed. I asked she said she did them. Not at all. What a waste! I now need to find a new groomer in fear this happens again. I think she was in a rush! Regardless I paid full price and not sure what I paid for! read more

WARNING: This PetSmart starved my 2-year old French bulldog for 6 nights in their pet camp/hotel. My dog, Reid, is a healthy, happy dog who loves people. I had to be out of town for my sister's wedding, so I dropped Reid off at PetSmart (at the 10825 N. Tatum Blvd location) for the Doggy Day Camp and boarding on December 27tharound 4pm and picked him up January 2nd around 3pm. Reid was supposed to get 12 ounces of his food every night, portioned out by PetSmart (this is a service they offer and one I agreed to pay for). When I picked him up on Sunday, PetSmart returned 42 5/8 ounces of his food back to me along with a very emaciated-looking Reid. When I asked what they had been feeding him and why they had so much food left, they said they had been feeding him his food but they didn't have access to a food scale (aren't they a pet supply store?), so they just used a small measuring cup (which apparently wasn't even a full cup) to estimate his food. Based on the amount of food returned to me, they had been feeding Reid about 5 ounces of his dog food a day (assuming he was actually being fed every day). That's less than half of what he should be eating! When I asked more questions trying to figure out who was responsible for him throughout the week, they were unable to give me one name because they said everyone is responsible for the care based on different shifts. So, apparently everyone is "watching" but no one is really paying attention. Reid lost a considerable amount of weight over the course of a week and is now having major digestive issues. He was very eager to eat the second I got him home, but immediately threw it up. I am HORRIFIED to think about the care I left Reid in for almost a week (what if I had been gone longer?!). I read the reviews of this PetSmart before I dropped him off, but clearly didn't pay enough attention to the other negative reviews about the Pet Boarding situation at this PetSmart. This is a warning to other pet parents: do not leave your animal in the care of this facility. I understand that many companies are short-staffed these days, but there should be safety protocols in place such that someone is responsible for the overall welfare of the animals. If there isn't one person ultimately responsible for ensuring the pets in their care are getting properly fed, how would any pet parent know that their pet is getting proper walks, enough clean water, or any amount of affection? Their response to my outrage was to discount their service by $150 (I had paid the bill before they brought out Reid, so I still paid $167 after the discount). I don't care about the money, but I feel horrible that Reid suffered for a week and don't want another pet to suffer the same way. I have attached a picture of Reid on the day I picked him up. Quite frankly, he was probably on the "sturdy/chunky" side when I dropped him off, so to see him with protruding ribs breaks my heart. I've had him since he was a puppy, so he doesn't even understand cruelty. I've emailed PetSmart about the situation and asked that they review their protocols to avoid this situation in the future. If I hear back any meaningful response, I'll post an update for the pet parents. read more

They will quote you low and then give you the "but once you get here the groomer will let you know what it will be for sure".... If you see my past reports you will realize I never leave bad reviews about anyone... so I had a note for a free day camp session at pet smart after having 10 evidently this is generated in the system which keeps records of my dog stays... I lost the coupon and told them to look up my dog who had her stays... the lady lied and said she had only 8 and I was wrong... funny how God works later that night I found it and turns out I was right and my free stay did not expire ubtil4 January 2017 ..I will save my receipt and see how I can file a formal complaint read more

The store itself is great. I have never been to the Banfield clinic nor boarded my pet or have done their day care, so no information there. My post pertains to their grooming services. The store has terrible grooming services. I was very excited to take my 7 month old puppy there and spoke to the staff hoping that my puppy would have a great experience. I booked an appointment with them at 7 AM in the morning. I was told that would help her experience as many pets are not there at that time and she won't get overwhelmed. I took their advice. I arrived there 10 minutes before, brought all her paperwork, expressed just a simple bath, no drying, hair or nail trimming. I had given my puppy baths before and she has done great with them. I asked if I could stay and they said it would take an hour, so I told them I would leave and come back. When I had left she was the only dog there with 3 associates. The woman took her in the back room, the other associate told me they would call me, so I left. I walked around the store for 15 - 20 minutes to get a few items and then I left thinking I would be back shortly. As I left I saw another dog being brought in and two other associates arrived as well. I went home and waited for my phone to ring to pick her up. After almost two hours later a groomer called me saying that my puppy has been in a cage barking and I need to pick her up. I asked how long has she been in the cage and she quickly said she didn't know but maybe over an hour. I got upset and asked them about keeping my dog caged for that long without calling me. The woman on the phone then mentioned that my puppy tried to bite them, which blew my mind as I have never seen or heard of my puppy doing that to a person. The only thing I could imagine was that the reason why she would have, if have, attempted to bite someone was more than likely based on how cruel a person was treating her. After I got off the phone with the woman I rushed back to the store and saw that she was sitting at the back, outside of the cage, on a leash. Apparently she was now able to get out of the cage and not bite while doing so. She was not even barking when I arrived. She just sat there in the corner. I asked why it took them so long to call me. I asked why she wasn't barking if she was barking the entire time and how did she get out of the cage without biting anyone. I asked why she didn't get seen right away and why she was put in a cage right away when there were more than enough employees around. I was told that they were too busy to call and that there is only one person available to touch the dog while being washed. That they got swamped with people, which I challenged with the 20 minutes staying in the store and seeing one other dog there and two more associates arriving for a total of five employees. The guy told me she was ok but then proceeded to tell me that she's too young to bring to the groomers and that she's not ready to be washed. He was rather rude with me, which I turned right back at him, especially seeing how greatly disturbed my puppy looked. This whole visit frustrated me greatly. I was very upset with how these people treated my dog, my puppy, my little baby. I trusted them and thought they would take care of her. I still go back to the store for some food items, as that is the closest PetSmart to me, but she whimpers and cowers every time we past the groomers. She remembers that something happened to her there and tries to walk away from that area or avoid it. During the time I picked her up I asked to speak with a manager and I was told they were not in. I asked if they could call me, but no one called me. Since I went back there a couple times I inquired about it with a manager and they told me I should have reported it then, but I responded with, "You weren't in the store, how could I have reported it?" I highly don't recommend anyone bringing their pets, family members, to this groomer. Something happened there, I don't know what, but my dog, my baby girl, remembers and she avoids it. Take it from her, my dog. Avoid this place, she sure does!!! read more

I took my German Shepherd to the grooming department for the first time to help get rid of some of the dog hair issue, the customer service in there is horrible. Nobody working in there looks like they like there job :( makes it difficult to want leave your animals with them. Anyway... My German Shepherd was supposed to have a bath, dried and brushed out, her under coat was still wet. And her fur looked like how I brought her in, I was wondering if they even did anything... needless to say she won't have to worry about going back. Absolutely horrible experience at this store with an extremely rude employee! We were switching dog foods and had a small bag of our food and a small bag of the new food. This dog food was recommended to us by our vet. Who knew our dog, his breed, activity level, health and had an education as a vet. This employee at the checkout had the nerve to tell us without us asking for her opinion at all "This food is only for athletes are you sure this is for your dog? We said yes , "Well my dog is well exercised and taken to training 3 times a week. Are you sure you exercise your dog?" If we had asked for her opinion great. We did not and we're going to listen to our vet over a rude employee who wasn't even kind in the way she said those things. As well making us sound like bad pet owners. Very disappointed in how pets smart has their staff trained. I worked in retail during college and I would've never talked to a customer like that. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

This was my first time bringing in my little yorkie ... I had always observed how clean and professional the grooming salon was so I thought I'd give them a try.....I was more than pleased... Jorden did an amazing job on my Shelby ...it's her best grooming ever and not only did she smell and look pretty, she was very calm when I picked her up... Unlike other places where she was traumatized. Everyone working there were very courteous and helpful and I would HIGHLY recommend this salon... And so does Shelby. We went to purchase one small fish for my daughter's friend on her birthday. We were denied unless we also purchased a ten gallon tank to put it in. My daughters friends tank is over 500 gallons. Business must be slow to try and con a faithful 10 year customer. That will be the last we set foot into that store again. Management was once nice, it is not now. The Manager is the worst dealing with people. In fact, people as her should not be in contact with the public It's her way or the highway!! We chose the Highway, pass it on. read more

I like this PetSmart. There are many people at the Pet Hotel who I think truly like dogs and they are attentive to my requests. Although, there is at least one person in particular who throws blankets and belongings immediately on the floor in front of me when I check my dog in. I do not understand why this is protocol, to step on items that dogs sleep on and place them where dirty shoes are? Then I picked up my dog and found that the dog's name was written in two inch large letters along the side of the blanket in black permanent marker! No one asked me if the blanket was expensive or if I wished to see the name scribbled everyday going forward on my dog's blanket when my dog is at home. If they get confused about what belongs to what dog, they need a better process. They should have more respect for people (who pay for items and for service) and dogs in this regard. It wasn't appreciated that someone did not consider that the owner might not be in favor of any of those actions. I paid my several hundred dollar bill and left. I hope they gain some common sense. read more
