I needed a new color for my cat and decided to see what PetSmart had available. This location has cats for adoption and doggy day care. They have a nice selection of pet food and treats. I did find the isle with the cat collars and was happy to see they had a nice selection. Since my cat is indoor and outdoor, I always get him a collar with the easy release. I made my selection and headed to the checkout. I had to wait for an employee to come to the checkout because nobody was there. They seem very understaffed for such a large store. The Petsmart on Almaden Expressway is our go to for our Lucy's needs. She took puppy training classes here and learned a lot of basic manners. The training was very individualized as there was only one other dog in her class. We also visit the grooming services to get Lucy's nails trimmed/grinded. She absolutely hates it and wiggles like crazy, but the staff does such a good job with her. I feel guilty that it's usually a group effort for at least two groomers to hold her steady (and she's a small, 15 pound dog!) but they are always so gracious and get the job done without complaint. The PetHotel is where we board Lucy on the rare occasion we travel without her (2-3 times per year). It makes me anxious to not be with our girl, but Petsmart is very receptive to check in calls and sends photos of her at playtime with other dogs. I've had my dog Oliver groomed here twice. I've been satisfied with his hair cut both times. I made his grooming appointment online through their website. You need to provide proof of a rabies vaccine in order to be eligible for grooming. Every year their prices have been slowly increasing. A bath and full hair cut is $65 now. Their prices comparable to most other grooming services. You can also add on other services like nail grinding, teeth brushing, etc. When you arrive, they do a quick hands on assessment to check for matting or any other things of concern. They let you know that the grooming can take 3-4 hours and they will give you a call when your pet is ready for pick up. Oli was ready in 3.5 hours. Nichole did a wonderful job! I always get the teddy bear hair cut. She gave me a brief summary of how he handled the grooming. Oli hates having his paws touched so she said that was a little challenging but they got through it. In the past at other pet smart locations I've had some groomers charge me a "handling fee" because he was fussy in certain areas. I appreciated that Nichole was able to handle Oli's sensitivities. Riley C., who took such great care of us the first time, went off to cram more dog grooming knowledge into her head (training), so our next groom was with Stephanie K., who is also awesome. These groomers clearly love their clients and take really good care of our girl. The only part she doesn't like is the part where we have to leave her. Stephanie K. continues to take great care of her. We've gone once a month since our first review, and every time we've been very pleased with the care taken with her grooming. They did recently change the service packages they offer, but Stephanie was very helpful figuring out how to make sure we got what we wanted out of the new offerings. I called about getting my dog's nails cut originally, and I wound up booking a full grooming appointment for my 16 year old Husky . I was shocked that it was half of the price that I normally pay at my regular groomers, $55.00! I dropped her off in the A.M. with Christina , her groomer . I explained to her my dogs physical challenges, and she was fine with all of them . When I picked my dog up , she looked absolutely beautiful. Christina was so kind , and she was able to do all the services with my dog without problem. What a great experience! We will be back . I highly recommend her . Today I went in to get some fish, and I scanned the bar code, an employee saw me and said she would help me. She helped a couple that came before me and then WALKED AWAY. I'm standing there and nothing. The employee behind the register asked if I needed help with the fish, and I told her what happened, and she said oh she had to go on her lunch. I really like coming here whenever I can't find what I need at Petco, for clarification Petco is just much closer to me than Petsmart but I also know that whenever Petco is lacking I can always turn to Petsmart for what I need. I love that they have these giant toy plushy's for dogs for different seasonal events. My mom has a big Rottweiler and I bought him this giant carrot plushy from here and he absolutely loved it. He completely shredded the thing but I knew he was going to when I bought it. I'm just happy that he had fun with it. For Easter they had these really cute bone shaped cookies for dogs and they said 'some bunny loves you' so of course I had to get one for my mom's Rottie and he absolutely LOVED it! I really like coming here to buy treats to spoil my mom's dog, because it just seems like they have a better selection when it comes to seasonal goodies than any other pet store in the area. The store itself is always well lit, clean, it has very spacious isles, they have the vet clinic in the back and the employees are always very friendly upon entering. I am disabled and have been sitting outside of this PetSmart in the curbside pickup parking space, calling them 15 times over the last 30+ minutes and have had absolutely NO ONE answer the phone. This is despicable. I cant even believe that after I have called so many times, they refuse to answer. I've tried to press 3 for curbside pickup as well as pressing 0 to try and get SOMEBODY and still not one answer. I have been sitting here for a half hour and continue to wait. My dog stayed at the Pets hotel for 7 days and this is what his skin looked like when I took him home. Same thing happened when he stayed at the Pets hotel in the Mountain View location in July. They are either not cleaning the enclosures properly or they are using very harsh cleaning chemicals that are not pet safe. Never had these issues when he stayed at the VCA. I will continue with the services there, even though it costs more. My dogs safety is more important! Update: Glen offered to have my dog seen at the in house clinic free of charge, which was a half ass gesture if I'm being honest. He never apologized and even nonchalantly admitted that what happened to my dog is a normal occurrence. And to be honest, I don't think an actual vet evaluated my dog. They took him in and quickly took him out with a list of OTC meds I could buy. I never was told an actual diagnosis. I updated our regular vet and he confirmed it's a severe skin infection that requires antibiotics and a medicated shampoo. The staff here are unreliable and you are putting your pets life at risk by leaving them here. They need to be shut down! read more

This location has excellent customer service! I brought my pup in for grooming and everyone was so friendly. The person who groomed him let me know what to expect and asked about personality, skin conditions etc. before she got started. He was nervous and she really made it a nice experience for him. She had to work him to get through some things like the hair dryer and the table, but was able to get everything done as expected. He was super happy when I picked him up. However when i came to pick him up, he was in the bottom shelf in the corner. This is one of the worst PetSmart locations. Every time I go here, I have a bad experience. The staff are just straight up rude. What made me the most upset was the groomers. Do NOT go to the grooming place here. I have a large dog & we can't wash him in our apartment because we can't lift him up. So I always pay for someone to wash & groom him. I usually go to the Curtner location. The curtner one, they are so sweet and friendly. My dog had been in the ER few nights before, and he needed a bath because his coat was a mess. I made an appointment, since curtner location was booked that week. My dog is an older dog, he is very calm, & sweet. When I got to the appointment the two girls at the grooming desk looked me up and down. Cold tone of voice saying that they were actually so sorry but they were booked. There were no customers there?! I showed my appointment time and confirmation email. They didn't want to take him at all. They said I could look online and see if another location would take him. I was already upset from the stress of my dog's health declining. I'll never forgot how the treated us, when we actually needed help. My dog died a few months later from his health complications. I miss him everyday. This situation happened a few years ago, and it still makes me so upset with how they acted. Especially considering what a sweet dog he was. I couldn't write a review back then because every time I would think about it. I would be so mad. It was a simple bath and they couldn't even do that, when he actually needed it. *UPDATE: my dog passed away, weeks after mishandling at Petsmart groomers. He saw his vet who confirmed he clearly had some type of trauma to his legs, he could barely walk. Nothing was broken but his skin under his chin was all inflamed. Now I am thinking he may have been dropped or possibly fell off their grooming platform. He also had swelling around his bottom, it was red, doctor prescribed pain meds and antibiotics. My poor baby never recovered and no explanation was given. I asked them to review footage. But they did reimburse me for his medical bills and euthanization, so clearly they felt some fault and/or responsibility. My dogs were neglected. One evening after picking them up from boarding, they were not fed nor taken out as reported by some of the staff. It smelled like urine when walking in the store. Now, here's the real deal: They cram their schedule and just want to rush through everything, and you can see how stressed the groomers are. And when they're stressed, they don't bother with any extra effort. Made the mistake of scheduling with another groomer when our usual one wasn't around. My poor pet was left soaking wet and utterly traumatized. I foolishly held onto the hope that things would improve once our regular groomer returned, but it was a total letdown. Even someone like Christina, who's supposed to know her stuff, starts doing a bad job because I guess she doesn't think it's worth the trouble. Taking the easy way out, they blame the pet.The thing is, you've been the one grooming the puppy from day one and you've been doing it for a whole year now. What annoys me is the complete absence of genuine empathy and a barrage of excuses, but absolutely no genuine effort to make things right. Fortunately i was able to find another pet salon on short notice and complete the grooming. I encourage you to rethink your approach. I understand this is commercial venture, and repeat customers might not be your primary focus, but instead targeting new unsuspecting customers for quick gains. The Groomery! What a bunch of great people, they took such great care of us for our very first experience. My pup, Milo did so well and my guy got such nice little haircut from Nichole R - they bathed him, gave the haircut, even trimmed his nails and my boy let them! My boy only met Nichole R that day and he just loved her, that made me so happy. Do NOT get your dog pet groomed here. I wish I could give PetSmart Zero Stars. This was the second time I took my dog to PetSmart and it was horrible. The first time went smoothly. I first checked in and we specifically asked for the groomer we had the first time. It seemed very hectic as well. There were a lot of dogs getting groomed and I didn't know who was in charge. Also when we walked in this groomer said my dog was a cockapoo which is completely incorrect, because I have a Bischon Frisé. She had no place to say that because she is not a Veterinarian. It was a very strange thing to say. I did not get a text message at all to pick up my dog and luckily I checked my email and saw that my dog was finished getting groomed. When I went to pick up my dog it was very hectic and other dogs almost escaped as well. I was so shocked to see that my dog was still not groomed/ trimmed properly in some areas and his entire tale was shaved off. This had never happened before. When I got into the car my dog was traumatized and shaking. When he layed down for a nap he did not want me to touch him. I felt so bad, and he was there for 3-4 hours. I learned at the end that we did not get the groomer we wanted and we tipped someone who did groom him. I was so disappointed because I spent a lot of money too. I called PetSmart and they did not get me a refund at all. I am crushed. Save your money and I highly recommend going somewhere else to get your dog groomed. Although I paid for the bath and brush package, they didn't do any brushing, sanitary trim, ear cleaning, or shaving paw pads. They barely ground her nails and made her yelp throughout the process. I paid $45 and waited for 2 hours for just a half-assed wash. I am deeply dissatisfied and regret taking her here for grooming. The sales associate who usually helps me understand the products ands nutritional needs of my pets and offers suggestions for my picky eaters. The selection for most product categories is decent, and when they don't have something in stock, I order from the website through the app for store pickup. This is a comprehensive PetSmart that has a veterinary office (Banfield Pet Hospital), PetSmart Dog Hotel/Day Camp, and grooming salon all in one as well as all of its regular offerings. They had a good selection of holiday themed toys when I was there. Even though it was a smaller warehouse, they had a lot of variety in the size and type of toys that they had. I was looking specifically for toys for a big dog and saw a really cute almost life-sized goose plush. I did also take a peek around for larger dog jackets but all the cute ones are mostly for smaller to medium sized dogs. I swung by the dog day camp which is one room with some enrichment (a ramp and some boxes). There was a caretaker in there playing fetch with one of the bigger dogs. The other dogs seemed more interested in barking and walking around. Coming to Almaden is always kind of hectic because of how busy the neighboring Costco gets. The PetSmart is located by the Red Lobster and there's usually lots of parking closer to the restaurant. read more

I dropped my dog off for grooming at 9:30 AM with Krystal and Stephanie. Both so kind and were great with helping me decide on how I'd like my maltipoo's fur to be cut. I picked up my dog at 2:30 PM and he was bathed, had his teeth brushed, nails trimmed, and had his fur cut exactly the way I wanted it. Thanks a ton to Krystal and Stephanie for their hard work! My 10 month old pug puppy was bitten by a Husky at the doggie day camp inside the PetSmart located at 5353 Almaden Expy, San Jose CA. The Husky stalked him into a corner and bit him... twice. The employee tending the daycare was overwhelmed with handling the larger dogs who were triggered by the excitement. My puppy (Boba) continued to cry out in pain, for which the trifling supervisor responded to his screams as "he was being dramatic". Her blatant attempt to redirect blame on my puppy is a testament to her own and the store's incompetence and poor judgement. To be fair, there was a male employee who took swift action to rescue my pug from further harm. He demonstrated genuine concern. They're not all bad, I recognize there are some employees who do care and are capable. But the store policy doesn't make it easy and then you have these mouthy supervisors who don't give AF. She will get what's coming to her. I hope anyone who goes to PetSmart Day Care, Boarding or Day Camp sees this so they can avoid what could have easily been a fatal incident. Luckily, Boba is as thick as oatmeal and that the Husky was curious and joy aggressive. As a customer, I have a choice to not use their services. But as a dog owner, I must speak up and warn others so as to avoid endangering their pets needlessly due to poor resource management and lack of concern for the well-being of others. It took 3 weeks for someone to return my calls/emails. To put it nicely: their customer service is shit. Their safety protocol is utter bullshit. Change will have to come from the top down. I am advocating for PetSmart to change their protocol and separate the large dogs from the small into separate play rooms. This could have been prevented. If they can't operate safely under these COVID conditions, then cease these services until they can. When making the appt, I was not informed that pets cannot be taking ANY sedatives. No mention of any medication limitations. Then, on the form it says only Acepromazine. So when checking in, the manager on the floor says pets with ANY sedatives cannot be groomed. Nowhere on the website or email does it state this. Online, all the appt spots are booked, and when I called in, they had availabilities. When I went in, there were 3 people inside and only one grooming. Furthermore, the form I was given to take home has someone else's information on it. I don't know the quality of their service but if it's this disorganized, you wonder... Hello all: TLDR -- This location needs to hire staff with better customer service excellence skills. Especially when it comes to our dear animal family members. I came in on 2/8/2021 between 230-330pm. Typically I have a very awesome experience at this location. As it turns out, this time it was just extremely offputting and disappointing. I visited this location to purchase cans and a bag of hills science diet cat food. However, there were only 7lbs bags available when I need the 15lbs bag. I go to the register to kindly ask the sales associate if they could check their inventory in the back. (I worked with 2 younger, dark haired, women, possibly Hispanic descent.) She came back to inform me they did not have what I needed. I then expected her to ask me if I wanted her to call a different location as other sales associates have done for me in the past. When she didn't, I asked her to call another location for an inventory check. To which her reply was, "No, we can not look up another store's inventory." Which I can understand but that wasn't my question. I asked if they could call. To which, she rolled her eyes and asked the other sales associate that was cleaning a cash register at the time. That particular sales associate, clearly exasperated, replies with, I'll just help you here..." I declined at that point and left the dry cat food. Why would I want to subject myself to a negative experience with a woman that's clearly lazy and doesn't want to help me? My goodness, it's as if I asked these women to perform a Craniotomy. All I asked was for them to check the stock at another location by calling. Perhaps this location will reevaluate who on boards, especially since we are talking about our precious animal babies. First and last time I will be having Petsmart on Almaden do any service for my dog. I dropped her off for a shower and nail trim. They called me and told me that they will not be performing the service because she was getting "snippy" with them. I found that odd because she is actually really calm. Calm with other dogs, people, while showering, etc. when I took her home, I noticed there was blood on my floor. Upon further inspection, I found out that it was coming from one of her nails. Looks like they tried to trim her nails but cut too deep on I understand accidents happen but for them to try to hide it... that is unprofessional. That makes me wonder what else they hide from you. Pet smart had so many betta fish to choose from that it was so hard to decide which one to take home. I wanted the whole collection!! And it was so convenient how the store set up it's isle. Everything I needed for my fish was in arms reach! There's also a pet hotel here! I don't have a dog but if I were to get one I would use this pet hotel. The staffs are super friendly and helpful.
