Our smaller dog Ozzy needed her nails clipped. Not a task that neither Becky nor I wish to tackle. After some price shopping around, we settled on PetSmart in the Santee Town Center shopping center. We walked in and proceeded to the back of the store where the groomer and the Banfield Pet Hospital are located. We walked into the groomer and were the only customers. We were greeted by a very cheerful Heather. Heather was just finishing the grooming of a poodle looking dog. She took the dog to the back and returned to us. She took all of our info. We did not have proof of rabies vaccination for Ozzy. Heather was happy to call our primary vet at the El Cajon Valley Animal Hospital to verify. Once that was complete, she turned her attention to Ozzy. Heather was so sweet. Ozzy is typically a bit skittish, but she was fairly comfortable with Heather. Ozzy allowed Heather to leash her up without fighting it or whimpering. Heather's "bedside manner" was fabulous. She had us leave Ozz with her and asked us to wait outside on the bench on the other side of the frosted window. She said she'd tap on the window when Ozz was finished. About five minutes later there was a tap on the glass. Ozzy was finished and her nails trimmed properly. No muss, no fuss. 12 bucks. We went to the registers up front to pay and we were on our way. read more

I have been using this grooming service for a couple of years now and all of a sudden Grooming has refused to groom my large breed dog on a weekend appointment. I was told that he needs a 4 hr appointment instead of 2 hr. They would only take him during the week. They never made it clear as to why they couldn't block for that time. I work during the week and can't take him during the week. read more

I had my husky groomed here for a bath and brush and the groom was not completed. The groomer called me twice. Once to tell me the dog would be done in 35-40 minutes an hour in and the next to call me 5 minutes after that time was up to tell me that she didn't do the nail trim that was included with the service and that she was leaving for the day cause her shift was over. My dog was there for 2 hours, I don't understand how she didn't have time to complete it. She said my dog was being wiggly and that's why it wasn't done. I literally pay to bring my dogs here so that I don't have to trim their nails myself. I don't have the ability to do it at home. I am disappointed that now I have to take my dog somewhere else and pay more money to complete a service I already paid for. She was gone at 2:02pm when I came to pick up my dog and there were other groomers there that could have completed the groom if she needed to leave so badly. She also tried to upsell me on a Furminator package that I didn't order and now I think that's hilarious because she wouldn't have had time to finish it anyway. read more

HOW TO LOSE A CUSTOMER IN 2 SHAKES OF A LEG AND A DOGS TAIL WAGGING! Here we go.....Loyal PetSmart Customer for over 20 years. No longer! I am not sure what direction to take this review but suffice to say, their pricing in the Grooming Salon is highly suspect and potentially great substance for a class action lawsuit. Only a couple of years ago the nail grinding was a flat $15 and no need to make an appointment. They had a grooming package that they use to call a "top dog" that was between $35 and $40. Today I took the same dog that I have been taking there for 15 years (a 12 pound chihuahua minpin mix) Buddy, for a nail grinding. I was quoted $19. However the groomer Adan, said that if the dog nips it would be an additional $10. I told him that he was known to nip but the last groomers said he was getting better. Adan said that the grinding should take no more than 10 min. I also told Adan that if I had to pay $29 for a nail grinding that it would be the last time I would be a customer there...when I returned to get Buddy (7 minutes) my first question was, how did he do. Adan said he nipped a couple of times then settled down. He also mentioned Buddy didn't like the sound of the grinder. Duh???? What dog does? I left a $2 tip and thanked him then realized that I was indeed charged $29. For a nail grinding. When I asked Adan why, he said it was because it required him to not only grind the nails but trim them as well and that is why he charged an extra $10. Who makes these decisions? I never agreed to a special treatment and Im sure somewhere in the paperwork it stated that the ultimate price is subject to the whims of the groomer depending on how much he feels he needed to make. Though the Manager refunded the additional $10. And said she would speak to the groomer, I told her that never had I ever had to pay $29. For a nail trim for a dog that has had at least 100 in the last 10 years. Total BS is what my wife called it and I tend to agree. Regardless here is the bottom line to this epic review......across the street within walking distance is a PetCo whom I called as soon as I got home and asked what they charge for a nail trimming or grinding. They said it doesn't matter what ya call it the cost is $12. I also asked how much a full spa treatment would be for a dog including wash, nails, ears, and anal glands....the young lady said between $35 and $40 bucks. Worst dog grooming experience I've ever had . Avoid getting ur dog serviced here for grooming. This is the first time I've used petsmart grooming . I had an appointment at 11 when I dropped her off I was never told of a fee if you pick up after an hour the dog is done. My dog got done at 1:38 i picked up her up at 4pm on the dot . I get there and ADAN the front desk guy with the heavy accent has an attitude and tells me they have been done for SIX hours and I'm going to be charge a fee. Which wasn't true at all .She was finished at 1:38pm as the lady told me and I picked her up at 4pm. Adan also was saying my appointment was 9am and it was at 11 , he had he's timing all wrong or just didn't know how to count . He was also complaining my dog pooped in the kennel ,which shouldn't be a big deal it's petsmart dogs piss and poop all over the store it's what dogs do when they smell other dog scents around! Isn't that he's job to clean up and after dogs. My dog has anxiety and pees a lot if u put her down .I had let the lady know this on the checkbox upon checking in. They go to grab my dog and she has piss all over her .Then Adan says he will need to charge me double price to clean her up again . Just ridiculous no help no customer service skills . The manager VALERIE was no help she just listened to whatever Adan told her . Definitely not a manager leading anything or making the situation better . I usually avoid writing reviews, but my experience compelled me to share my thoughts. Unfortunately, it was the most disappointing service I've ever encountered. Today, my family and I went shopping for our Dachshund puppy. We encountered a team member who was very eager to assist us. He presented us with a coupon booklet, but we declined as we were not interested in it. After finishing our shopping, we approached the register, where several cashiers attempted to sell us the same puppy booklet. We explained that we had already seen it with a team member and had decided against purchasing it. The main cashier who was assisting us began to act rudely. She then asked us to return the coupon booklet, but we clarified that we had already returned it. At that point, she accused us of stealing the coupon booklet, claiming she had seen it in our hands. We showed her the puppy toy we were holding to clarify the situation, but she continued accuse us and treat us poorly and stated, "Well, if you take the booklet, the coupon won't work." After I finished paying and was ready to leave this uncomfortable situation, I told her, "Thank you for helping us, but next time, please don't make accusations." Our dogs look and smell great they came out of their appointments wagging their tails and super excited. It was their first grooming ever and the ladies said they did excellent and behaved well. As a fish hobbyist it pisses me off to overhear the manager of the store and the girl that works the fish department talk about how some of the fish have ick in the tanks and to just pull them out and to sell the rest. The entire fish wall is on one big filter in the back, so no matter what fish you buy it will have ick. This location is very large and has a large selection of products. Our focus today was the aquatic section and they had so many fish tanks on sale. I was really surprised at how competitive the pricing was, especially since it's so easy to scan a barcode and find something cheaper on Amazon. The fish were all in great condition except for the betas. All of the animals and aquatic life were kept in really good condition. The only thing i was less than impressed with was that the staff really had no background on any of the products that we were asking about. They were almost confused with very basic questions and we're just reading off to us what was listed on the box. I don't know exactly what I expected but I thought maybe they would be a little bit more informative. **Update - super impressed on this visit with the assistance we received from Abby today. Great customer service! I was having trouble finding the right size harness for my new rescue cat when Kaitlyn approached me. She was very sweet and patient as I explained how I've never raised a cat before. Kitty is about two years old and likes to eat trash. She was rescued in my backyard and is still house training. Kitty loves to climb trees and hiss at the neighbors Chihuahua. Kaitlyn needs recognition for her bravery when helping me harness Kitty. She was even bit and played it off like it was no big deal. Kaitlyns animal experience made me feel like I was shopping at the right store. If you need her help she is the tall one with brown hair. She is super hawt too! read more

Took my dog here after having previous bad experiences at other groomers cutting my dogs tail. His hair is similar to a husky and when it is cut short, it will not grow back the same. I told the lady behind the service desk here several times in the grooming department "don't touch his tail" and to put "do not touch his tail" in the groomers notes/instruction. Throughout our interaction and her visual inspection of our dog she promised us that his tail was not to be touched. When I came to pick up my dog for his nearly hundred dollar grooming bill his tail fur was cut. I then asked her why his tail was cut, and she practically shrugged her shoulders at me and walked away. The managers were kind enough to refund the haircut, but, I will certainly not be taking my dog here again. If you expect to get what you asked for, seems like to have to talk to groomer him/herself, otherwise your instructions will be ignored. Very disappointed with this experience. read more

I visited this store yesterday. My husband and I were going to purchase two algae eaters. I have a 60g tank with 7 1 inch gold fish. They refused to sell me the fish. The lady said she couldn't sell me any fish because my fish tank was over populated. So she REFUSED!!!! I have never in my life heard such a thing.. NEVER!!! I'm affected by this whole situation. Took my dog to Petsmart Grooming for a bath two weeks ago and picked her up with two eyes filled with blood. The vet on-call said this happens when a dog is strangled. Saw my vet last week and she agreed. PetSmart leader said they reviewed the video and nothing happened. Went on about how much they care about pets and their employees are trained. Well something obviously did happen! I asked to review the video and they had to get approval. That was two weeks ago and not a word. Googled PetSmart and grooming incidents with dogs, and there is definitely a problem. I'm only glad my girl is alive. Others weren't so lucky. This is a great read! It is about a real "know it all!!" named "Craig" you'll love it! So I've been to this location now twice and both times I ran into this guy named "Craig" he is tall and wears glasses and he is always in the fish area. This is where it started... He told me I should run my tank for a full week before adding fish to a tank. I say "why? All the tanks for sale say you should wait 24hrs". He said it's common knowledge so then I say where? He says "google it and that it's everywhere". At this point he thinks I don't know squat about anything so I throw him a curve ball So I stated to him several sources that say it's okay to run 24hrs and then add fish in and I asked if he had a specific source that could solidify his point of view and of course he defers me to google again. We are officially here and this point he is talking out of his you know what... Please continue reading it does get better! Anyways, let's get onto the next subject. Then I wanted to buy a goldfish and he said my tank is way too small because the goldfish will outgrow the tank. This is true if you don't know what you're doing and let me explain... goldfish release a growth inhibitors and when this hormone overwhelms the tank then the goldfish stops growing and he becomes unhappy and dies off. If you do regular water changes this negates the hormone by diluting it and you have yourself one happy goldfish. So with his pompous very holier then thou attitude he refused to sell me a goldfish. Yes!!! He refused!!! I seriously thought it was a joke but he said no. So then I asked him if he was in charge of the area? He said "yes" and to that answer I looked around and I noticed plenty of dead fish in several tanks, visible algae, cloudy water ( bad water quality for fish), parasitic slugs (very bad), and there were signs of ICH and that can be seen in white spots and other fish having signs of fin clamp which the top fin on the fish is stuck in the down position. At this point I'm thinking what's wrong with this guy? He is giving his holier then thou opinions and he can't even take care of the fish there. Conclusion: I would probably recommend buying fish from a different location and as I discussed earlier in the review look out for algae, slugs, lots of dead fish because of disease, and moron customer service employees named Craig. read more

Great company except 1 RUDE Employee My pup always looks great when leaving here, But I might not return because of the ladies attitude. usually everyone is exceptional as is the job they do. But tonight, one lady was busy, but still very nice.. The 2nd young lady ( with blonde/brown streaked hair) walked my pup out to me, and handed me the leash, then she just turned around and walked away. So I said ''thank you" then she mumbled your welcome have a nice day, (with a rude tone and as fast and as fake as she could possibly say it. What did I do to her? I'm sure she had a hard day, We all have been there. But you don't ever show it to a customer.. (at-least a professional wouldn't make it apparent that something has upset them..) Especially when I was trying to be polite and move on with my night. She ruined my day, just because she was having a bad day, And for that, I will take my dog & business elsewhere. It's not like she did something to offend me , but with an attitude like she was displaying, I don't want my dog to be handled by her. And I can't imagine her treating my dog any better then Me..Considering she didn't have to work with me at all and still had no patience.. The grooming salon went from bad to worse. Today was the second appointment in as many weeks cancelled by them with only a few hours notice. Last week was a family emergency and this week was a sick day. I feel bad for the groomer if all of that is true but all they offered to do was schedule a new appointment. They should at least offer a discount or some other incentive to make me want to give them a third try. But nothing. I was told that they are getting a new grooming manager next week so they should be able to "be open more than three days a week now". What a joke! I stayed home from work twice for nothing. We are definitely going to go somewhere else from now on. So disappointing. read more

This review is for the online ordering system. Last Friday, 9/2, I placed an order for items to pick up at the Santee store. The online ordering system had a glitch and thus we were charged for the amount but the order didn't go through. However, the amount charged went through and was immediately pulled out of our account. I have been in contact with the company for over a week with no satisfaction, letting them know it was unacceptable to be charged for something and then not receive the product. This is what they told me today " I have found that the attempted order did not process. As the order did not process, the authorization hold will fall off within 10 days, or one billing cycle. As for the pending charge, you should see this authorization hold fall off on or before 9/19/23" That is 17 days from the day we were billed! The order was for over $100 (including a $50 gift card) . We were charged the money on the gift card as well as the money from our checking account. UNACCEPTABLE - FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR. read more

I originally went here to get things for my fish but when i walked past the tanks I couldn't help but notice the condition. As an animal lover and someone that wants to grow up saving animals this was depressing to me. bacteria is growing all over the pipes and walls of the fish tanks and I didn't even get pictures of the worst ones, some fish tanks even had no structures, rocks or ANYTHING at all in them except water. This is not healthy for the fish nor is it promoting a good environment and these fish look so drained and depressed. I would rate this location 0/10 for animal service because of the malnourishment of their fish, and how murkey and disgusting the water and tanks are and 10/10 for products. Love all the variety and products they had but again, these poor fish. You are a pet store!! treat your pets as such!! :( Birds, Guinea pigs, hamsters, and chinchillas are all in a VERY small tank as well. hamsters need up to 50 gallons for a good healthy life, but these tanks are like 5-10 gallons with no forage or place for them to hide. very sad. read more

My husband took my dog in for a grooming, and the groomer ask if she had Any seizures recently, he said maybe the last couple of weeks but said he would call me. It had been over a month. Love Pet Smart!!! I know some people dont like big box stores, but I feel local pet stores aren't as knowledgeable or happy to see you. Pet Smart is awesome they carry extra large and giant puppy pads. A large variety of dog toys, treats and bones. They have everything you need for your puppy or dog child. They even carry puppy pools right now. We also use there vet Banfield located inside the store, there great to. They offer optimum wellness for dogs and puppys at a good price. The staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this pet store over others. read more

Associates working there are not helpful. I went with my sister to get crickets for her bearded dragon. Walking by the crickets you are by the aquariums. I look at the hermit crabs as one of my children had mentioned wanting one. When I walk by all the hermit crabs were dead or dried up to a crisp like they've been that way for a while. I do not recommend buying a pet here as they cannot care for a simple hermit crab. read more

I called this location a few times to see if they have a specific product that my pup needs, it's a prescription item and my dog needs it.
