I've visited Pettey Ventures twice, once for fingerprinting before I began volunteering at a school (free, subsidized by the organization), and another for the CA Bar ($25). Both times, I easily set up an appointment with Mr. Pettey on the same day. The office is in the Flood Building, right next to Gap and Anthropologie in Union Square. Mr. Pettey was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. FYI: He accepts credit cards, but if you pay by credit card, he adds $1 to offset the credit card company fees. read more

I am an attorney and I had to get re-finger printed due to a new federal law regarding attorneys. On May 23, 2018, the Supreme Court issued California Rule of Court, rule 9.9.5, requiring the re-fingerprinting of most active attorneys licensed in California, effective June 1, 2018. Mr. Pettey was very knowledgeable about finger printing live scan, ID passport, etc. and all of the rules! He can be an expert in these matters. The best thing is he knows what forms you need for what type of government request. If you go anywhere else they are just robots that fingerprint and know nothing of the process or what forms are required. LIVESCAN IS TOO IMPORTANT TO RISK DOING IT WITH THIS VENDOR! Others may have had a great experience, but I took time out of my day to write this review to warn you that when things go wrong Mr. Pettey is not the person you want to be doing business with. Keep in mind that because LiveScan screening is essential for many positions, a mistake can cost you valuable time and money, since you won't be able to work unitl the error is cleared up. In my case, the ever gregarious Mr. Pettey was too busy making smalltalk to fill out my forms correctly. This caused my entire certification process to be suspended. I found out only when I received a letter from the California State Bar telling me that the forms I submitted had been filled out incorrectly by my LiveScan operator. I sent him a polite, to-the-point email explaining his mistake and asking him to provide the missing information ASAP. He sent me back absolutely the nastiest email I have ever received from anyone I've ever done business with. He denied all responsibility, insisted the error was mine, claimed I was "popping off" in my email and, if you can believe this, even ended his email with "[d]on't bother to apologize." I was blown away. I responded by letting Mr. Pettey know that the error was indeed his (and that I had a letter from the California State Bar and a copy of the form to prove it). I told him I was shocked to find that even after his lack of professionalism caused the error, he would respond in such an angry, petty, unprofessional fashion. He never bothered to apologize or even respond. I can say without doubt that this is the absolute worst service I've ever received anywhere, from anyone--so much so that I felt compelled to write this review. My opportunity to begin work--to earn a living in my chosen profession--has been delayed by this. He literally cost me several weeks of pay with this error. You know, this is a basic, fungible service. There are literally dozens of places where you can get LiveScan fingerprinting done and most of them offer mobile service. I urge you to choose someone other than Mr. Pettey for this very important task. Your opportunity to start your new job or get your professional certification may depend on it. read more

I was referred to this business for security check, fingerprinting. It' s located in a tiny office in The Flood Building. The owner, "Marvin" was very professional and friendly. He said it's been a family owned business for over 30 years. He also does passport photos. Fingerprinting is all by digital scanner. Very cool! I didn't have an appointment and was in and out in under 20 min. I would definitely return if I ever need fingerprinting again. Highly recommend! read more

Great place to get Canadian Passport photos in San Francisco

I got some passport-style photos taken here and, when I realized I needed more copies a couple of weeks later, I went back and he kindly reprinted them on the spot, without a hassle (or prior appointment). His small office/studio is located in The Flood Building, which is conveniently centric, and the owner/photographer is accommodating and professional, so it's an all-around smooth operation. A small business in downtown San Francisco, worth supporting. The man who runs it is very accommodating; this is a good place to go get passport photos; my whole family got passport photos done here, and the man knows exactly what size/type of photo is needed for American versus European passports.
