My regular repair shop suddenly stopped doing Smog Tests. So, of course, I looked into Yelp for help. Phan's SS in Newark received 5 stars and now I can attest and add my high recommendation as well. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and was surprised to find only one vehicle in front of me for a test. The test was done quickly, safely and the guys are really nice to their customers. The place won't win any building beauty contests, but frankly, who cares? Like jury duty, you want it to go by fast and painless. I thought I had a flat tire, but it turned out to just be low air pressure and my sensors going crazy from the cold weather. I forgot the son's name, but he helped me out and put air in all my tires. My mom went to this tire shop to get 1 of her tires replaced. They "checked" the tire and told her everything was fine. The next day it was flat! So my mom went back and they told her, "it's your fault for driving with a flat tire!" Like wth?!?!?! She's a old lady that can't change a damn tire herself. They even told her not to come back. WTH! I needed to get my 2005 Passat smog checked so I could sell it. I called before they were supposed to be open on Labor Day. The guy answered the phone and said to come anytime, they'd be there until noon. So, I showed up about 5 minutes later. I explained what I needed. He performed the smog check and I was out of there in less than 15 minutes. He made conversation while I was there and even told me I could have sold my car for more. He's probably right, but that's ok. I was very pleased with the service and friendliness. I will definitely come back the next time I need a smog check. I paid $60. I'm not sure if that's the regular price or if it may have cost more because it was for selling the car. read more

I had a screw in my tire yesterday, and like most of us, work a 9-5. Getting tires fixed midweek is difficult at best. Headed over to Walmart after calling and despite the fact that they said they were still doing tires, they couldn't take me. I texted my girls and they came through! Sent me over to Phan's and told me to expect to be amazed. No wait, showed up at 5:50, and within 10 minutes my tire was back on my car and I was pulling out of the lot. Updated Review: The first time I went to Phan's Smog Station (About two years ago) it was great... second time was absolutely horrible. First of all... I was not told that the price had gone up significantly. Secondly... they told me that my car failed due to some sensors not being ready. I was told to drive around a few days and come back for a re-test (another $20 for the re-test). Don't most smog places do a second re-test for free? Anyways, I did as they told and went out of my way to come back there a second time after a few days only to be told that another sensor is "Pending" and will cause me to fail the smog test. So I went to another smog place in Milpitas to fix this "Pending" sensor and was told that it would not affect the results of my smog test. Lo and behold I get my car tested there (Only $40 at the Milpitas place by the way) and my car passes. So basically I was scammed out of the first smog test fee that I had got done at Phan's, wasted time making two pointless trips to the shop, and stressed out over nothing. By the way I did try to call Phan's Smog and explain the situation and was told NO REFUNDS. It's a no-brainer that I'll never be doing business here again and highly suggest going to a different Smog Check Station to avoid the chances of an awful experience like the one I had. Old Review: Went in for a Smog check and was In and Out in no more than 15 minutes. Price was very reasonable $40 (including certs and everything) which is cheaper than most places I saw online. The guy helping me was very friendly and communicated everything clearly. It was Fast, Easy, Cheap and an overall very pleasant experience. I'll definitely be doing business again! read more

These guys charge a lot for a smog. I went to another place and their machine was down so I went over here and they weren't busy. They do the smog right in front of you so there's no waiting room or anything. But I guess then you know what they are doing to your car. I also wish they would have put a mat down in my car especially since it was raining. read more
