I actually had the BEST quesadilla EVER from here approximately 2 months ago. I have ordered 3 more times since then hoping to get the best quesadilla again. Unfortunately, the last 3 times have been completely unsatisfactory. (Even the containers for delivery have gotten cheap and less sturdy.) Came here for lunch hoping to find the former Phat Burrito menu resurrected at this new location. Not so. Got a steak burrito, asked for sour cream, guacamole, and queso. Was asked what beans I wanted....i begrudgingly chose black beans although in hindsight should have chose none. Also ordered chips and queso and a Jarritos bottled soda. Total was $27!!! after tax and a $2 tip. Un-freaking believable. Chips and queso were good, the cheese just right...just like Salsaritas cheese but better. Ran out of cheese before chips. Oh well. The burrito.....biggest letdown. Took a huge first bite and got a giant mouthful of unexpected white rice. Ugh. Didn't notice that on the menu description nor was it pointed out. Sneaky sneaky filler....shame shame. The rice and beans were all mushed together in this mouthful of spicy starchy flavor. I guess the black beans have jalapeño juice or something because it threw off the flavor of the rest of the ingredients. You ever taste "hot" but can't detect an accompanying flavor?...just a hollow spiciness that lingers? There were a few chunks of steak in there somewhere....a dab of guac, drizzle of queso and no detectable sour cream. If I wanted a rice burrito I'd go to Qdoba or Moe's. The old Phat Burrito downtown had eclectic meat options; chicken tinga, etc... no fillers, and an amazing selection of homemade salsas. Basically a food truck style offering at a no frills location. Here we have a really nice/new location with boring meat options and mostly filler in the burrito. Not worth the price nor navigating the block trying to find a parking spot. Ya'll need to find the old recipes and menu stat or I don't see this place lasting more than a year. Too many legit Mexican food trucks in gas station parking lots for real deal offerings...all for way less than $27. read more

Not my favorite place unfortunately! There was a lot of fanfare for this given the history of the restaurant in the area for so many years but I found the fast casual places to actually be better. I got a tofu burrito, and the extra toppings were additional $. It got delivered to our table. The burrito itself was pretty bland as was guacamole for our chips. read more

Went here last week after all the hype surrounding their reopening. Granted I did have high expectations for their food, but was a little let down. Don't let their name mislead you- this is nowhere near a "Phat" burrito, burrito was very small and fairly mid. I think I went two days after their opening, so I'll cut some slack, maybe they'll phatten up the burritos next time. Really enjoyed this place, I went for take out and got the chicken burrito and an order of nachos. They were both spectacular. The pricing is good and the portions are large. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a full bar with lots of different beers options. My only knock on the place is the are not a lot of options for parking and it is hard to find a spot close by. read more

I was so hyped to get a phat burrito since their reopening. Phat Burrito was a staple spot for me when I was in high school. I had such fond memories of their original location. It was a cool spot with an alternative vibe. The burritos tasted great and were really affordable. Unfortunately, none of that was the case for this new location. For starters the burrito was overpriced. I ordered their "burrito of the day" and it rang up at $16 for just the burrito with no side and no drink. When I saw that ridiculous price I changed my mind and just went with a standard chicken burrito with all the free ad ons which still came out or be over $10 (still pretty overpriced when you consider some of the best burritos in California, the burrito capitol of the US only cost $8). First I'll give the highlights of the burrito. It was big in size and was wrapped very nicely with a perfect grill on the tortilla. Also the red sauce was great. Now for the bad. Honestly the burrito was overall bland. There was very little flavor. Luckily the red sauce helped with that. But without that sauce the burrito itself was mid. Solid 5 out of 10. Lastly, the vibes were off so bad. It felt like a lame south end bar that also sold burritos. It didn't have the cool punk atmosphere it used to. The room was filled with lame finance bros instead of cool people. I can't blame the restaurant for that, that just seems to be the way charlotte as a whole went. The city really lost all of its culture to be replaced with a bunch of yuppy cheugy overdevelopment. The nostalgia I had for this place tasted way better than the actual food itself unfortunately. I'll try to remember this place for what it was in its heyday rather than this watered down reboot. read more

You will be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of the original PB than me. For a solid 13 years I had lunch or breakfast there. I found some awesome friends in the staff and ownership and I absolutely loved the food. So to say I was looking forward to the reopening is an understatement - especially when I found out that Steven was involved, even if only a small bit. The new PB is okay...not great...food is passable , salsa is not what it was, but man is it bougie...nothing like the original atmosphere. I'm sure it will do well with the new SouthEnd but don't go expecting the original PB! read more

I'm going to give this place five stars but with a suggestion to the cooks. It's called Phat Burrito but the burritos aren't actually that big. They are well priced but just not the size you'd expect. That being said, the taste is really good and it was fast. Location is good and service was friendly. Nice outdoor seating too. read more

Food is okay but atmosphere is not for people of color/people who expect to get what is advertised. My friend and I walked in and were not greeted. A few moments after a Caucasian couple walks in, the waitress greets them and explains their specials. When the waitress was walking by us, I said "excuse me" and asked if she wouldn't mind explaining their special for today. She then went on a rant about how they cook the special instead of what it included or the price. I then told her we would like to look at the menu and would order in 60 seconds. The Caucasian couple ordered and we're served way before us despite us being there first. There was barely anyone inside so no excuse. We waited about 10 minutes for our food, and when we received it, there was not complimentary chips and salsa provided as the menu mentions. I asked the waitress and she stated that it's only when we dine in?? The menu doesn't state this and regardless we basically dined in as we had to wait 10 minutes for two burritos. Not only did I pay $17 for a burrito but I left a tip. Highly disappointed in my experience and again this is not a business that POC friendly. read more

Very Meh. I'm very disappointed because I had heard so much about this place, and never got to try the original one before it closed. So I wanted to try it out once it reopened. I ordered a steak burrito and queso. I ordered online via toast tab and when I came to pick up my order I assumed there would be a quick pick up spot for an already placed order that is sitting on a shelf. When I asked an employee where to go for pick up orders he pointed at the long line of people waiting to place in person orders. Didn't even bother to use words to address a customer. My order was in a bag with no receipt to indicate what the order actually was, and when I got home I found that my burrito was missing all the additional toppings like the pico, lettuce, and slaw. In addition to this, the burrito lacked flavors majorly and was cold (I picked up order right at the ready time and live 10 mins away) . And it definitely didn't live up to the giant burrito stories I heard. It was the size of any burrito you would get from any Mexican joint or even Moe's or Chipotle. I believe this is going to be a one and done trip for me. Doesn't come close to living up to the hype. Disappointing experience all around. read more
