Banh Mi Sandwich
Bob S.

So happy to have Pho available in Aspen now. Selection isn't like a pure Pho Restaurant but the flavor was excellent. Side vegetables we scant and wilted, but the jalapeños were nice & hot. Oddly there was potato & carrots in the Pho, but it beats driving to Willits for the real pho. The Banh Mi sandwich flavor was really good, but the bread didn't live up to worthy review. Outside seating was very nice and shaded. Plenty of free parking in the shopping center lot.

Great restaurants bathrooms inside and street parking…read more Servers were very attentive and it gets busy so if you want a table i would consider making reservations. I came with my flight crew (just a couple of pilots in addition) and we just sat at the bar. I had the kale rotisserie chicken salad. The peanut dressing does have soy sauce so it is not gluten free, so they brought me a champagne vinaigrette instead. It was delicious. I got this during the cyclospora outbreak, because I'm a wild person now lol but they assured me they only get quality ingredients and super clean all veggies and fruit coming in. My pilots got the meatballs, creamed corn, and deviled eggs and they LOVED them.

The service was wonderful, we got our food very quickly, and the ambiance was adorable. A little loud but nothing too crazy. The food itself was fine. We ordered the duo dip, French fries, the French dip, and the chicken sandwich. The guac and the other dip were really good and we loved the chips too. The fries are pretty much what you'd expect, except once they got to room temperature they became super hard and not very edible. My husband said the French dip meat was good and tender, pretty good flavor overall. I had the chicken sandwich which was huge! They split the sandwich into three wedges and I could only finish two. I liked the texture of the chicken was nice and I liked the slaw on it, however, the flavor overall was kind of lacking. I would say it was a bit overhyped. Overall, it was a nice experience for a decent price and I'm glad we went. Would we go back? Probably.

My husband thought the whole place felt affectatious. The place seeks to have this nightclub-lounge-speakeasy vibe with its super-dark lighting (almost black!). It took a good 15 minutes for my eyes to adjust to the dark lighting. I have terrible night vision...and initially I could barely see. It was stylish and sexy, but definitely not comfortable. Like a nightclub, there's even a coat check station. The overhead music was very cool...progressive, metro chic and loungy. Whatever you'd call that music genre now lol! It was cranked up a bit loud...and I think it weighed on my husband, who doesn't love this genre of music like I do. The place was obviously a magnet for a ton of pretty, young people of Aspen. I was just glad that my husband was facing me, seated away from the room, which was filled with a ton of hot, single ladies lol! The pricing was completely outlandish...to be expected of Aspen. We ordered several items off the menu to share...White Fish Tempura, Shrimp Tempura, Smoked Kurobuta Ribs, Spicy Salmon Roll and Ube Waffle. For drinks, I got this Chai cocktail...and I think my husband got the Sake? All items were delicious...but in a way, I thought they could have been better. Also, they should have cranked up the presentation more...considering its price points. I just felt that the foods could have looked as expensive as they were priced. Guess if I HAD to choose, I liked the Ribs and the Ube Waffle the most. The service was good...but somehow, a bit inconsistent at times. Overall, I was impressed with the decor and the vibe much more than the foods (again, quite underwhelming in presentation...especially for the price points). Still, I enjoyed the dining experience here...despite some disappointments. However, my husband may not have quite loved it when he got the final bill lol.

Please excuse the lack of flow in my review but I'm still confused…read more Weird vibe, touch-and-go service, great filet. I've never had a $1500.00 dinner with ZERO rhythm. The pace of dinner was SO weird (I know weird is going to be overused in this review) The restaurant itself was SO noisy. The waiter was seemingly on-stage. He was so animated while explaining specials or answering questions, he often missed the point of "serving"...the sommelier was also VERY theatrical...made me wonder if the prerequisite to serve at Catch is to have a theater major? The problem was, neither the server or the sommelier seemed to LISTEN. I ordered a martini and I still have NO IDEA what was served to me. It tasted like the bartender used pickle juice rather than olive juice? It was HORRIBLE. The server graciously took it back and actually tasted it and agreed with me. I was too scared to order another drink so I just shared a glass of wine with my hubby: and that brings me to the wine list. It's HUGE and GiANTLY over priced. I found two bottles I was price familiar with and they are both $50-$60 bottles, but at Catch they were both $300!! Is that even legal? We all ordered a glass of wine out of principle. I am giving 3 stars for a nice filet, money back on a bad cocktail, and the overall thought that the owners or managers under-higher because towards the end of the night, our waiter (who also had a shadow he was training) was in the weeds so bad that he was crashing out. He literally threw the desserts and check on the table and was really sporadic in his movements. He seemed like he was spiraling and I genuinely felt sorry for him. We all (party of six) walked out saying it was the weirdest dinner of all time. I think there are better places in Aspen to have a good steak without the unwanted entertainment....

Later on, I discovered that they added 15% gratuity for TAKE OUT. The American tipping culture has already gotten out of control but this is the first time I've experienced having the option taken away. Ask all you want, but it must be the consumers decision. To automatically include that tip without a warning or a mention is sneaky and a poor business practice. Now, the food we ordered: Wild pineapple fried rice - an interesting combo of really dried out salmon cubes, sour pineapple and cashews. Not bad, but seems like a mishmash of leftovers you use from the refrigerator. Happy Wings - pretty meaty and a definite sharp spice but doesn't linger long. Makes for fantastic leftovers as well. That's all - food wise, I give 3.5 stars, but the one-star is well deserved for what is really stealing from customers. That's all.
