However, Ashley served us with such kindness and excitement. Ashley recommended the fish tacos. And dang were those tacos fried to perfection! Clean oil, correct temperature, high-quality cod. Brava brava! The baja sauce, fresh slaw and tomatoes with limes were the cherry on top. Even the slaw tasted fresh, instead of being inundated with sauce. The presentation left little to be desired but the flavor was fantastic! I would have loved the crab cakes but hesitated because of the $40+ cost. Otherwise, I would love to report on those! I had about 25 minutes to spare at terminal D between my flights and used self serve terminal to order a salad with mahi, a side of fries, a slice of cheesecake and a bottle of water. $56. Yes, fifty six US dollars. Took them 20 minutes to make it, I had to run to my next flight. Anyway, for $56 they forgot to put dressing for my salad. The portion was pretty small too. Fries were overdone, almost brown color (I wish I took a picture but I was on a plane and so hungry). Cheesecake slice was microscopic, served with one sad strawberry on a side. Very pleasantly surprised with my latest airport meal. This time I had a meal at Phillips Seafood and enjoyed almost all of it. Was seated promptly and there weren't many people there so had the place almost to ourselves. Very nice place and clean but the waiter wanted to spend as minimal amount of time with us as possible. We could have practically done a "grab your own food" with less speed and more personality. I had the crabcake sandwich and it was off the charts good. Really enjoyed it, well cooked (or warmed?) and tasted excellent. Nice waffle fries with it. The blue moon on tap was jus the perfect complement to it. The Mahi of course was frozen 3/5 ( we're in an airport). The most surpassing thing was the prosecco that was $20 a glass. Krazy, wild, insane work. The shrimp were small and likely the frozen box kind. The mashed potatoes weren't rich or satisfying. More like someone subbed skim milk for whole in the making. The coleslaw was good, not too sweet like others I've had lately but the star of the plate was the crab cake! Filled with chunks of crab without tons of binder. Came with waffle fries, seasoned, thick and fits well in the face! My SO had the mahi mahi plate. She said that it tasted great but it was chewy from being overcooked. And it was very salty. For airport food, Phillips Seafood was so good! Sharde was our bartender/server and not only was she excellent at her job, she was fun and pleasant! I'm so happy we stopped here for a bite before we boarded the plane. We were able to enjoy the food (nothing to complain about) and relax before the flight. Airports; love or hate them, you're likely in one every so often. And when that includes a layover, food is the top priority. Now I'm not on the go constantly, but my flight paths have taken me through the same airports enough to start building a list of where and where not to go. Seafood though, that is a whole different story. You have to serve up those fish and chips just right. There better be a pale ale on tap to pair with it. I was en route to home and being in the mood for such, I saw Phillips. Of course stop number one was Yelp. What's the rating? What do the reviews say? Let me scan those photos. But the final test comes in the aroma. You just have to walk up close enough to smell the oil, batter, and fish becoming one. Either it draws you in or repeals. Obviously, it won me over. I was soon sitting with a view of a plane and the blue sky. Now I wasn't in a hurry to catch my flight (two hour layover), but I was hungry so timeliness was still important. And that it was. The team member had a menu and a glass of water out quickly, soon followed by my first pale ale. Beer battered fish and chips, with coleslaw, was close behind. I kid you not, this was a quality dish. The texture and flavors were spot on, the portion was able to appease my appetite. But I still had a sweet tooth about me so I gambled on the cheesecake. And I gambled well. I was so excited to find a seafood place in the Atlanta airport. And Phillips is a name I know. I had an hour and 45 minutes in between flights so I figured I could sit down and have a nice meal. It took forever to have someone come over to me after being seated, and no one even offered me water. Then I finally begged to order and they said I had a different server. When I finally got the server to come over, I ordered my meal. After an hour and 30 minutes I told the server I needed my food to go because I did not have time to eat it and I needed to check out right away. After almost $40 I shoved a couple of bites of food down and had to leave. This was not worth the money at all, and the servings were incredibly small. Wow!! What an actual scam. I am traveling for business. So I have to have alcohol on a separate check from my food. I get two receipts at the restaurant. Pay for them with two separate cards. The receipts that I signed had one with only food and one with only alcohol. However, when I get home and get my receipts in my email. I have alcohol charges on BOTH receipts. Which is NOT what I signed. I would not sign. My company does not pay for alcohol. I checked my receipts carefully before signing them. Also I am being charged for a drink I did not order nor receive nor consume. What kind of petty fraud are yall pulling over there Philips Seafood??? And when i call customer service to get this fraudulent charge handled, I just get hung up on. On the negative side, the food took awhile to come out when there were only a few tables occupied. So I'm not sure what happens when they are busy. Better than that was the extraordinary assistance of the staff who helped me in a time of distress due to the airline failure to care for stranded passengers. I had an unplanned 5 hour layover, was using wheelchair service and denied airline admittance (for a fee or mileage). The Phillips server and the hostess allowed me to remain comfortable after my meal and the most delightful hostess, Kembria Williams, offered to push me to my gate which was at the end of the concourse when Delta airlines was not available to assist. The meal was good wish the crab cake had less filling and the brand of tartar sauce they use was not tasty and wish they had remoulade sauce instead.
