Amazing sandwiches best in the Portland area. The only good cheesesteak I've ever had outside Philly

Sometimes it all comes together. Nothing too much nor too little, just an exercise in balance to brighten up the day. This place delivered one of the truly balanced and delicious sandwiches I've ever had, no hyperbole. Go there. At its essence, a sandwich is two things - bread and filling. Both were excellent. The bread hit that perfect spot between too soft to hold together and too tough to chew. It was soft and firm at once and fantastic flavor. The filing was a phenomenal combination of meat and cheesy goodness, and there was just enough for every blessed bite. Reminded me of my Mom's Minnesota inspired "hot dish" dinners as a kid, only swap in good steak for hamburger. But in a good way. They hit it out of the park. I was in the area and saw this place had really good reviews but I did not like the sandwich. The customer service was great but I took my sandwich to go. From when I left and ate my sandwich at work, it had been in the bag for maybe 12 minutes. I had so much trouble unwrapping it without everything falling onto my car seat. Half of the filling was outside the sandwich in the wrapping and the bread was so soggy it was falling apart in my hands and I hadn't even taken a bite yet. By the time I got halfway through my sandwich it was much and it started to get all over my car. I didn't end up finishing it because it was too much of a mess. read more

I picked up these chubby little cheese steaks as a welcome lunch for some friends who just moved to Vancouver. We are all spoiled now. The sandwiches were hearty and delicious. Plus my friend was in love with the mozzarella sticks and has mentioned them since. I'm sure we will all be back. I have only been here once and I was impressed. Had the classic philly. Was definitely the best cheese steak I have had in the portland vancouver area. Took a friend there who has been to philly several times, and he thought this place was better than any cheese steaks he had in Philadelphia. The service was friendly. I've eaten PCS sandwiches all around the country as well as make my own. This was the best PCS sandwich I've had. I had the "traditional " and it was soft and flavorful. Absolutely outstanding. Anyone bagging on the the sandwiches here is a full on troll or doesn't know their face from their ass when it comes to sandwiches. Period. This is a great little spot for a yummy quick bite. The staff is very friendly and helpful when trying to pick menu items. They use Boar's Head meat in their sandwiches which is delicious. The meat is thinly sliced and mixed with cheese and onions. The cheese is so melted and creamy it truly is what holds this sandwich together. This place is ridiculously expensive I come from Philadelphia I can show you an existing menu from an open restaurant that sells 7 inch cheesesteaks for seven dollars. Bilmos 16 inch cheesesteaks 25 bucks you can keep it!!! You can get nine hamburgers at Wendy's for that $25 three triples or FIVE 5 whole roasted chickens at Costco oh and by the way all their sandwiches are $25. Traveling for work during Covid isn't ideal by any means and understandably, everything was only open for take out delivery, so I decided to see what the local Yelp community recommended, in the area I was staying. This is where I found Philly Bilmos. I was a able to place my order for pick-up using Yelp, which as it turned out, was managed through GrubHub. (honestly, I am not a fan of GrubHub, so had I known this was the engine for ordering, I would have called Philly Bilmos direct.) Not even sure if the restaurant team received the tip I gave if the greedy GH team took it - anyway, enough of GrubHub) The order process was easy and within about 30 minutes, my order was ready for pick-up. I arrived, walked up to the counter and waited about 10 minutes for the team to help others, before getting to me. When it was my turn, I checked the to-go bag and luckily noticed I was missing an item. They resolved the error and I was on my way. Upon returning to my hotel, I unwrapped my cheesesteak and was impressed by how large of a sandwich they provide. The bread was great (as expected for a Philly or why bother making one - right?) The meat was plentiful and peppers tasty. The old adage, you get what you pay for is in full effect here. I will tell you, this place isn't the cheapest option, but they give you your monies worth. Maybe I just went at a bad time (it was apparently national cheesesteak day, so we had a 20 minute wait), but.. I don't know. I read in other reviews that the bread doesn't get soggy, but my entire sandwich was so soggy I felt like I was eating soup. Their prices are really great, even their beer prices were cheap, but if I returned I don't think i'd order a philly again. Maybe i'd try their chicken parm. I had a traditional cheesesteak with onions and cheesewiz. I couldn't taste the onions or the meat, honestly. I just tasted 50 pounds of cheesewiz on soggy, disintegrating bread. The fries were plain with no seasoning. We added salt and they were okay, I guess. Based upon the other reviews, i'm wondering if we just visited at a bad time, because everyone else seems to love this place, but none of us were particularly amazed by our experience at all. read more

We're new to the area and a local recommended we find out way to Philly Bilmos for some great cheesesteaks, and they sure delivered! The sammies are huge, too. The Hubs & I shared the smaller (8") "loaded" cheesesteak and an order of fries and that was plenty! The "loaded" version is your choice of steak or chicken with cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms, red bell peppers & banana peppers. The folks working there were really nice, too. While the sandwich was edible, I can say without a doubt that it was the worst cheesesteak I've ever had. It was hot and loaded full of toppings, but I just wasn't keen on the flavor. Hub and I came here for a light dinner. The dining area is small and clean, but I'm sure a lot of their business is takeout. We had the "Traditional" sandwich and plain fries. Both came out fresh and hot. Although both sandwiches were yummy, they really didn't hit the mark as a true Philly cheesesteak. I believe these are made with cooked deli roast beef and liquid American cheese. The real-deal PC sandwich is made from thin slices of raw beef and browned on the grill with onions, peppers, etc. The bread was excellent, tho...very important. So, all-in-all, this was a tasty bite and I wouldn't hesitate to drop by again. read more

I've eaten here 10 or 15 times and finally doing a review. I've always had exceptional service and the food has always been exceptional. Highly recommend. If I had to say anything negative it would be sometimes the weight for the food is longer than I feel it should be. But that's normally because they're extremely busy. Best cheesesteak place in Vancouver. I would rank it up there with some of the best I've had up and down the west coast. I order it the way it should be with the proper cheese and the cheese fries. It pairs great with a ice cold beer if you have a minute to have a drink, but will also suffice with a nice cold Coke too. I also must commend them on their selection of hot sauces which make a nice addition to the fries or steak depending on your taste pallet. Bottom line is I don't think I would go anywhere else in Vancouver if I'm looking for a cheesesteak, and I'd recommend you check them out next time you have a chance. read more

I've been enjoying Mike's sandwiches since 2001 and I'm just now getting around to writing a review - sheesh. I have to admit I've been pretty monogamous when it comes to my menu selection, but I have had the cheese steak in all its configurations (hot & sweet peppers, loaded or not). It's fantastic. There are two distinct modes of enjoyment for this particular item - dining in and take away. If you eat it immediately, all the flavors blend together with a more pronounced cheese taste. If you take it to go and eat it later (as we often have to do - they're huge) the mushroom flavor stands out a bit more. Tip: Have a bottle of IBC with your sandwich. read more

I have zero allegiance to this joint, so my review is honest. Ordered the 8" Loaded steak philly, $8.25. Loaded means besides steak and cheese it also comes with peppers, both bell and banana, and mushrooms. If you don't want both order the regular and pay $.50 to add either. The sandwich comes with white american cheese but I opted for mozzarella. I found the sandwich to be very flavorful. Unlike other customer reviews I did not find the meat and veggies finely chopped. I found them the perfect texture and size. The sandwich was flavorful and no complaints here. As for being pricey, Subway charges $10 for a footlong philly, so $7-$8 for 8" or $14-$15 for 16" seems reasonable for freshly made. I also ordered a small chili cheese fries. $1.50 plus $.75 each for chili and cheese. Their small is other joints large. More than enough for the money. They put the cheese whiz on which tasted good. My only complaint is the dish was a little salty, but that is because they salt the hot fries before adding the chili and cheese. Next time I'll ask for unsalted fries.
