Got the Ice Coffee Rose, small regular, and Iced Mint Mojito (made by mistake and the barista was nice enough to let us try it coz it would've gone down the drain). The Rose was preferably better than the mint even though I love mint, I didn't really like the mint beverage. The medium roast is strong and powerful. Overall, it was alright. Absolutely love Philz coffee I always use to have them in california when I would visit but now they are Chicago ! FINALLY lol! Still a little bit of a hike for me about 35 min there and not to mention back, I come out from Lombard! So once a week I go in and get about 5 large mint mojitos one for the ride and the rest in the fridge for the next couple of days and they stay good! Wish there was one closer but all good because Joey and the team are amazing and know my order and know me personally! Always amazing service and funny conversations. You guys ROCK! Tasty coffee. Rich and yet light, full flavored. However, My iced coffee was mostly ice...I should have said "easy ice". I was served mostly a cup of ice with a splash of coffee. Needless to say I was really disappointed to pay $5 for a cup of coffee flavored ice. Additionally, I take issue with the set up. As a first timer it's slightly confusing to order. You essentially wait in line to place your order at the bar then move into another line to pay for your coffee. You have to specify at your time of order if you want any milk or added sweetener as this is not accessible on the side like many other coffee shops. That being said if you're in a hurry, maybe skip this place. I did try the baklava and a Oatmeal cookie. Wow, phenomenal. But it is so damn good. On days that you want espresso, don't come to Philz. The first Philz Coffee in Chicago caught my attention months ago and I can't believe I'm only just writing a review now. Since its opening in June, Philz Wicker has been my go to spot for coffee and studying. I first encountered Philz sporadically in San Francisco many years ago, but only had the Mint Mojito from there. It was good, but honestly, it wasn't until Philz was in my hometown that I was able to try so many of the other options they had and fell in love with the place's culture, vibes, and drinks. Like I said, my first Philz drink ever (in San Fran) was a Mint Mojito and they make it the same here too. But perhaps it's just my body that's changed over the years, consuming pure mint has started to give me a headache, so I explored the rest of the menu and I haven't gotten the Mint Mojito since opening. All of their blends are fantastic, and as a guy that usually drinks black coffee, I found the Philharmonic to be my absolute favorite blend, at least when taken straight up. However, my all-time favorite drink at Philz is most definitely the Iced Coffee Rose. I've honestly never tasted anything like it, and it's just fantastic. The Rose with extra cream and sugar is my usual order at any Philz here in Chicago, though I might experiment with different blends for the base. The staff here are all fantastic. Super friendly, warm, and the culture of Philz here is the exact same as it is on the west coast. The owner who's name escapes me at the moment is always a joy to be around when he's working; he's always incredibly friendly, genuine, and outgoing to all customers. This is without a doubt my favorite coffee spot in Chicago, not simply because of the coffee itself, but the vibes, location, and staff. It's within proximity of great food choices; I personally do not indulge in the food at Philz because I'm more of a "quantity" over "quality" guy so I'd rather walk a few blocks to Bonchon or, depending on my level of self-loathing that day, Popeyes. At time of writing, I've also visited the Hyde Park and Lincoln Park locations but Wicker Park remains my favorite. So happy we finally have Philz and will definitely be coming back as much as possible! read more

Best coffee ever!!! Every time I come back to Chicago from California, I am so sad there isn't a Philz here. When I found out that Philz was coming to Chicago, I was ecstatic! I visited this WP location twice for an influencer event and a community event. The service and coffee were AMAZING. It was the same level of greatness I have experienced in California. It PAINS me to give this place 3 stars. I used to live in the Bay Area so I do have a bias towards Philz, but this just did not live up to the expectations. Its crowded, there aren't many instructions, and the staff isn't super friendly. Stopped in around noon last week. There was no wait to order, as there were multiple baristas behind the counter. After ordering your drink, you pay at the register and walk back to your barista to get your drink. It was a bit of a wait. I did notice they have online ordering, so I would recommend going with that route if you want to be in and out. A large mint mojito with oat milk was $6.89! As a California native I was overjoyed that Philz coffee was coming to Chicago. If you're a coffee purist you may not like their offerings, but it's still definitely worth a try. They are known for their unique drinks, most famously the Iced Mint Mojito, which is creamy, sweet, balanced, and of course minty. I also tried the Tantalizing Turkish, which was slightly bitter (in a good way) with a light hint of cardamom. The baristas are all very knowledgeable and helpful as well. I happened to get the news that my friend was pregnant right after drinking a large gingersnap. I think their flavors doesn't always match the description, which is why I want to indicate that this review is based upon the actual store/employees. The staff there are awesome and kind. Anytime I've gone in, they've always greeted me and are very full of energy. I also am super happy that they have clear COVID instructions that helps people to easily navigate. Unique ordering process where you go directly to one of the five baristas and place your order directly to them (so there's nothing lost in translation). You then go pay the cashier and the barista flags you down when your drink is ready. I just ordered a basic coffee with light cream and my son ordered a mocha and both were perfect and tasted great. Their process (of ordering directly to the barista) I think is a game changer in the premium coffee shop segment. Watch out starbucks and the 4 other coffee shops on the same block as this one. I was so excited to see a Philz coming to Wicker Park over the spring! I tried Philz in San Francisco last year and absolutely loved it. The drinks definitely live up to the hype, but are on the expensive side. A small drink for one of their fun flavors is over $5. Due to the price, I couldn't get Philz all the time but when you're wanting a treat I would 100% recommend their drinks. Their iced rose is my absolute favorite. The location is darling and you can hang out and feel welcomed, as the energy is great inside or on the outside patio. All of the employees are very friendly and helpful! I have only had the iced coffee, but it was sooo good. A nice change from the Starbucks that I drink everyday. Also, nice food options. Great outdoor seating. I only gave four stars because as the mom of an 18 months old it is very unfortunate that's they do not have any high chairs. I get it that this isn't a place that caters to children, but being in a neighborhood there are many parents with kids in coffee shops. As someone who comes from L.A. i was very exited to see they were building a Philz here in Chicago as it was my favorite place in LA. I was glad to see that not much had changed from their predecessors out west. Friendly staff, a beautiful open-floored interior with options to sit outside. My hands down go to drink is an Iced Mocha Tesora, and it was like a blast from the past getting my hands on one again! One thing I've always adored about Philz is that they have you try your drink before you pay for it, that way they can adjust or simply remake the drink you want so that you want it. read more

I believe I have found my go to spot for amazing coffee. All their iced menu is incredible. For example, my favorites are their iced mint mojito and iced rose coffee. There's something about the crunchy ice coupled with refreshing mint and rose with a hint of sweetness that clears my head. Been meaning to write this review for awhile, but I haven't been able to find the words to sum up what the Philz on Division means to me. I was told you only meet angels when you go to Heaven, but talking to Joey, Petra, Liz and crew every morning makes me seriously question that. Philz feels less like a coffee shop and more like a daily family reunion (but the kind you actually do enjoy going to). Don't get me wrong, the coffee is great, but what makes Philz special is the people who work there and greet you everyday with a warm smile. I thoroughly enjoyed my first time experience at Philz Coffee. I walked all over Lincoln Park neighborhood, attempting to find a spacious coffee shop to kill a couple of hour before this info session at DePaul. Eventually I circled back to DePaul campus area and found this gem on Yelp. There is ample space and various couch seats and chairs. The staff who worked on my coffee was helpful and kind. I ordered Philtered Soul because I enjoy a hint of hazelnut in my coffee and it was made perfectly. My barista asked for detailed instructions like how strong and how sweet I wanted my coffee. I'm not a coffee expert so I replied medium to all her questions lol. But it turned out great. Also, I love the couch seat because it is positioned just perfect considering the height of the table, which is something a lot of coffee shops miss. I assume this is a relatively new (?) coffee shop because everything looks new and clean. Or maybe they are just doing a really great job keeping it spotless. It is a good place for work/study because you have got a big enough table for your books/laptops. Also, the internet is easily connected and I fly through the webpages. No tricks to WiFi is always a plus. Five-star experience and will come back if I'm in the neighborhood again. read more

Very unique coffee flavors and combinations: I had the Rose coffee which was fairly sweet and creamy, more desserty than I expected. There needs to be a better guide for first timers here: first of all it is a long process to get your stuff--they hand make each coffee on the spot. I waited a good 5 minutes before I could even place an order and it took a few minutes to get it after that, they tell you to sit and wait. There are unique questions about your coffee that you don't exactly know how to answer but I chose to stick with the creamy option, etc. The coffee was great, I sat down to try to order it and wait out the massive thunderstorm outside just before the manager said they are closed and we all had to leave the store. I finished in the mist outside the front. A small coffee cost $6 without tip, so this is not your cheap option. Regardless it's a unique brand that I would love to sample more in future pass-throughs! Come if you have money and time to spend. read more

I might be one of the few to go against the grain and say I don't love Philz and I've had it before in SF. I think the people working here are really friendly which is awesome and I like that you can customize your drink but I don't think it's amazing. I went during the first week they opened and it was a madhouse. There was a line out the door (which was to be expected since everyone was so excited they opened a location here) but it was so disorganized inside. We waited in line for awhile which was fine but then when it's your turn, instead of going to the register to order and pay, you go up to the counter where they make drinks and order with the next available barista. Like I said the customization is great, you can choose your milk type, beans, how sweet you want your drink and they'll make it. Problem is, they don't write down orders so they ended up messing up my sisters and had to remake it. Anyway, after you place your order with the barista, you go to a different area where the registers are to pay and then you wait for your drink to be made. It's incredibly loud in here and when they call out your order it's so hard to hear it. I saw so many confused people and I just think there needs to be a better system. As for the coffee itself, I wasn't wowed. Was it good, sure? But was it worth $6 something for a medium specialty iced coffee? Personally I don't think so. I tried the gingersnap with oat milk and it was good but that's about it. I also tried an iced Philtered soul with oat milk and a sip of my sister's mocha. All in all, it's a nice experience and I'd recommend trying it but I don't see myself as a regular here. read more

Not gonna lie... I was brought here after watching Emma Chamberlain's YouTube videos (she pretty much goes to Philz in LA at least twice a day). Since I'm in Chicago, I thought it'd be cool to see if it really lives up to the hype. When I walked in, I was greeted by the super sweet baristas and was amazed by how nice the aesthetic of this place is. I ordered the mint mojito (which I HIGHLY recommend) and looooveeed it. It's super creamy, minty, and nothing like I've ever tasted before. The reason for four stars is because after drinking the mojito, I definitely got a headache. I'm not sure if this is because I got more coffee than I normally do or because of the creaminess in the drink, but it didn't make me feel too great. Either way, I would definitely come back here and hope that one-day Philz pops up in more states! P.S - if you bring your own cup/mug you get $1 off. Plus, it's good for the environment! I just went on Sunday 8/11 at 7:57 to grab a much needed coffee and I understand it was close to closing (8 pm) but the doors were already locked and the employees from the inside looked at me while I knocked on the door without any acknowledgment to me trying to get in. If you're going to close your doors early I'll go to another coffee place that's more reliable than someone who's trying to always get off early. We came to check out Philz Coffee since we love coffee shops and it's right in the neighborhood. The place itself is really cute, nicely decorated with plenty of seating and a cute outdoor area. I ordered the Philz iced tea which was great! My boyfriend ordered a hot mocha which honestly tasted a lot like a McDonald's mocha. It wasn't very busy inside but our drinks took 10+ minutes to be ready. Unfortunately it's pretty expensive ($12 for two basic drinks) for not the greatest quality. Overall, I don't think we will be back. I'd much more likely hit up smaller neighborhood coffee shops. read more
