I stopped by this Philz location a few times now. My last visit was yesterday, Jan 25th right before 10 AM. I prefer ordering on the mobile app and picking up since it's so convenient. I've tried both picking up my drinks in-person and drive-thru and they are both pretty efficient. I ordered the following yesterday: Hot Medium Ecstatic - Creamy Cream, Medium Sugar, Hot $4.70 I've had the ecstatic before, which is an easy go-to for me since it's coffee with hints of nuts, toffee, and toast. Unfortunately, when I picked up my order, the drink was made cold when I ordered it hot. However, I asked one of the staffers and she helped remake my drink. I was quite happy since even though she wasn't the one to make it (I'm not sure I saw Phil there lol..the person who prepared my drink), she didn't hesitate to help me and did it with a bright, cheery attitude. Afterward, when she finished making the drink, she had me try it to make sure she can make any customizations if needed. I didn't catch her name but she made the whole coffee buying experience so much better haha. Location: conveniently close to CSUF and located in a plaza with Dollar Tree, Sharetea, Pieology, etc. Right now students are virtual for the first two weeks so there were plenty of parking spots available. However, I've never had a problem with parking before when visiting. Store: clean with plenty of seating for people who want to meet up or stay to study. Move over SB. By far my absolute favorite place to grab coffee. The golden ticket can be found here where every cup is a winner. I came here with my sis in law for lunch who has never experienced such a treat. The iced mint mojito extra sweet extra creamy is the perfect prescription for anyday morning or night. The coffee is nicely complimented with pieces of mint leaf. Pure yumminess in a up and an instant moon enhancer. My SIL had a iced mocha something and substituted cream for a non dairy, I think she had oat milk. She LOVED it. Both drinks cost me $11 and some change. Service is great. This coffee (winter bliss) tastes like heaven itself brewed it. It was so good we drove back and got a bigger size just to have some for later. I've been to the original Philz in the Mission District SF and would often buy coffee at their truck in the Marina District, so I'm familiar with their coffee. The service here is always good and my drinks always come out to my liking, but this review is mostly about the service Kayla provided to me in this visit! She was forcing herself to have the bare minimum customer. We asked her a simple question on which drink was the "Tiramisu" and which one was the "Winter Bliss" and she responded with "The one with Chocolate on top (they both had chocolate on top)" and it wasn't even that at every other location when it comes to getting our drinks we're approached very nicely and asked if everything was okay with our drinks but with Kayla it felt as if our question was an inconvenience for her! I love doing my work here, and everyone is really friendly and helpful. It's just way too cold, and there is no way to escape the cold air. I often end up leaving after about an hour, even though I would love to stay longer. It is just way too cold inside. I really hope there is a way to turn up the AC so people wouldn't be so quick to leave or try to change seats to get away from the air vents. It also makes me want to go to other places more often because I know I will be comfortable for a long time and not freeze. read more

Environment: Parking was easy to find. Walking in, it was a busy environment. There are students studying everywhere, and other customers walking in and out with their coffees. All tables are open, no social distancing, and masks required when entering. I didn't mind because there was a nice vibe. There was a large bar where baristas were visible. I asked how many ounces were in their medium sizes, and it took 3 people to tell me because the original cashier that rung me did not know & her other coworker did not know either. I figured they were newer. Overall, staff gave off great vibes. Coffee: I ordered an Iced Mint Mojito with extra sweetener. I like my coffee sweet. I read a lot of reviews, and many people recommended the Mint Mojito. The Mint Mojito is made with their signature iced drink & crafted with fresh mint (as their menu states). Personally I am not a fan of minty coffee, but I figured I'd give it a try since it seemed so popular. Honestly, I was not a fan of this drink. It had a very earthy mint flavor to it that I did not enjoy. Though, it being blended with their signature ice drink made it easier to drink for me. I've read many people made their own adjustments to the Mint Mojito; I'll definitely give it and their other drinks a try next time. Price: I thought their prices were fair. Loved this location, but the last couple of times I visited, my hot drink was lukewarm, almost cold. The app tells you the status of your coffee being made. Once done you'll be notified. You then step in the store to pick up your coffee at the designated table. Currently, their drive-thru has been "converted" to an outdoor seating area. It was hardly used as a drive-thru even before the pandemic. So now you can enjoy your delish cup of coffee on their outdoor "patio!" Seriously, LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mint Mojito coffee w/ easy ice. It always hits the spot. There are many coffee places trying to mimic the Philz Mint Mojito coffee & I've tried. NONE of them comes close to ever being like how Philz Coffee makes it. So save your time & money - don't bother trying it from the other coffee shops, Philz is hands down the only place to get it :D I've tried a few other coffee blends from here & my 2nd go to coffee is the Tesora. There's gotta be a coffee you'll find to love here! In terms of their bites I've had the Avocado Toast & Protein Bowl. Price is good, unlike other places that overcharges. Oh, Philz. Great things start with the name Phil - Phil's BBQ in San Diego, the TV show Phil of the Future, my AP Physics teacher in high school, and Philz Coffee. All joking aside, this place is great for iced and hot pour-over coffee. And while purist coffee geeks may not be a fan of these beans, their mint mojito and iced drinks are really great, especially on a hot California day!! LOCATION When this location first opened, their brewing wasn't as dialed in- but for a year now, this location is solid and consistent with the ones in downtown LA and Huntington Beach. WHAT TO ORDER ICED DRINKS Iced Mint Mojito Their most popular drink is the mint mojito. If you haven't been here before, I recommend this drink. It's their pour over of their Tesora beans with mint leaves muddled. Most people order this sweet and creamy; but I find this overly sweet and too creamy (at Philz, they use a heavy cream of you order 'creamy') I usually order my drinks 'light sweet' and 'normal cream'. Also, instead of cream, I love to order the 'vanilla soy'. It's their best alternative milk without changing the flavor too much. Oat and almond seem to do that, with this drink. Iced Rosé Coffee Delicious too, but if I had to choose between the mint mojito and the rosé, I'd pick the mojito. The rose syrup they use doesn't taste artificial. And their default milk that they use in this drink is oat. It works well for this drink. Iced Philtered Soul This drink is also my favorite here. The Philtered Soul is great if you're wanting something chocolatey/hazelnut without being too rich (like the mocha tesora - which is also good!). It's great iced, with vanilla soy, and light sugar! BEANS Their most popular blend is the Tesora. Very good- their main bean for their most popular drinks. I enjoy the Greater Alarm and Dancing Water in pour overs. Sometimes I order these iced and slightly sweetened too! I've read online that these beans are flavored with hazelnut oil or cardamom (like the Philharmonic- which is also great if you like spiced coffee) during the roasting process, and they're arabica beans. They only have a couple single origin beans. So, for the most part, Philz isn't for the single-origin coffee geeks, but iced coffee lovers and more casual coffee drinkers. These beans are also good using the French press method. And for $18 per lb, it's a good price compared to a local craft roastery. The only thing is, they don't roast on site or provide a roast date, so I'm a bit wary of the freshness. SERVICE Service has always been great here. On one visit, they had accidentally messed up an order and allowed me to keep the extra bean bag. Very kind. COVID SAFETY and ORDERING PROCESS No indoor or outdoor seating. Order through the app (very easy!! And lead time on drinks is about 10 minutes) No drive through available (I miss it). And pick up orders are at the outside entrance (no inside entry), there are line markers on the ground to distance customers, and all employees and customers have been wearing masks. read more

I was so amazed at how spacious the inside is and how well they are maintaining social distancing. The guy at the front taking our order was super helpful and kind! He gave us awesome customer service. I told him I wanted a medium roast black coffee and he recommended the Tesoro. I loved it! My friends a regular and she got the Tesoro lightly sweetened. She's a huge coffee " snob" and loves the coffee here- I agree with her! Wish they had philz around when I went to undergrad nearby here. Literally never coming here ever again! As someone who works in customer service, I'm APPAULED at the way I was served here. I asked for a simple large hot honey coffee. The woman who helped me (kayla) was blatantly rude and dismissive when I pointed out that the drink was cold when given to me. She first ignored me for a couple minutes at the window, then rudely corrected me and explained that the drink I asked for could not be made hot, so I then asked her if she could make me something similar and she rolled her eyes and said yes then slammed the window shut. I haven't been here for an year and it seems like some things changed. Their customer service is very superb and so is their iced coffee. I love to come here when I'm feeling something sweeter and creamier than Starbucks or other coffee shops. I ordered the "Philtered Soul" which consist of delicious hazelnut flavored coffee (iced). It wasn't too sweet but sweet enough and creamy + nutty/toasty. Only thing I didn't like is that I couldn't order from their drive thru window. I came here with my fiance after our morning hike, the place is nice and their peeps, super friendly. We absolutely enjoyed their coffee cake & Monkey Bread and bold Turkish coffee, OMG - they weren't kidding - it's seriously bold so if you're not into strong "wake up your body & soul" coffee, I do not suggest you get this lol ---I like it!!! This Philz Coffee location is bigger than any that I have seen around Los Angeles and it also has a drive-thru. Philz Coffee is a specialized coffee chain out of San Francisco. That alone will make me want to support them. They have been popping up around Los Angeles lately and it was our first time at this location. Being that it was in Fullerton, you definitely saw a lot of college students at this location. My friends all wanted some sort of coffee drink. They got everything from the popular mint mojito to the ecstatic. I, of course, got a non-coffee drink which was a Philz ice tea. I asked for it sweet and it was filled at the bottom with many mint leaves. I really liked this iced tea. It was refreshing, sweet and a drink I would definitely order again. The workers here were swamped. But they worked with smiles and all the ones that we encountered had great attitudes. I was shocked that the young lady that took our group's order remembered verbatim all of our drinks. Props! The line was a long one as we arrived and got even longer when we were leaving. My favorite coffee place- hands down! I frequently visit this Philz location and it never ever disappoints. It is located in a very busy shopping center, so parking is pretty limited. The overall ambiance of this place is modern/chic, the atmosphere is so fun and vibrant, and the decor is hip asf! Ordering here can be kind of confusing as a first timer, but all you gotta do is wait in the designated line, then a barista will take your order and make your drink in a matter of minutes. After the drink is made, you wait in line to pay. Then comes the best part- time to enjoy your drink! My favorite order? Honestly there's too many. But if I had to narrow it down, I would definitely recommend: Silken Splender, Philtered Soul, Mocha Tesoro & Mint Mojito. Every one of these drinks have such great individual flavors, and if you're into a lighter coffee taste in your drinks like I do, these are perfect choices for you!
