This was my first time ever at this particular Phill's location and I didn't realize it was literally at the other end of downtown Willow Glen! Lol I was on my Phill app when I noticed there was a Phils nearby and I was parked by the high school, which is completely the other side of Lincoln!! Lol since I was picking up food at Adapa, you should check out my review of that delicious Latin cuisine! I figured I would drive since I walked two blocks and realized it was a lot farther than I had anticipated! Lol I was happy to park behind the table parking lot, and there was a Suze cupcakes on the other side of Phill's coffee shop!! Goodness, coffee, and desserts all in the same area?! I was able to quickly get my mobile pick up order and use the restroom. Their restrooms which was very well kept and organized. The barista at the bar still asked me if I needed anything added to my drink, even though it was a mobile order. The extra consideration was really thoughtful. They DO NOT take cash "no sir I do not like it" The Mocha: All I tasted was what I perceived to be powdered chocolate, super sweet and NO, NADA, ZIP coffee flavor. I ordered 2 iced mint mojito coffees and a bacon and egg burrito . The Philz app was easy to navigate and place my order. I really like how I was able to schedule a pick up time instead of my order being made by default and just sitting on a counter waiting for my arrival. I set my pick up time for 8am and was out the door at approximately 0804 with 2 freshly made coffees and my burrito hot ! Lately I've been rotating between the Mint Mojito, Honey Haze, and the Tiramisu, all iced. You really can't go wrong with any of them. I love the Philz signature Mint Mojito, Honey Haze and Rosé, but this drink was not it. It sounds delicious, but almost tasted like a black coffee with a splash of Oat Milk. I should've prefaced this review stating that I'm not a huge coffee fanatic so it may make sense why I wouldn't like this drink. The coffee flavor comes through strongly so if you like strong and bold coffee, this may be the drink for you. Who doesn't love themselves a nice cup of coffee especially when made right, part of the reason why we love Philz is the consistency & warm welcome we get no matter what Philz we stepped in at. As a former Starbucks barista that was one of the biggest problems we faced at the multiple locations I've worked at. Most of my companions were not really welcoming. So kudos to this particular Philz location for having a very welcoming atmosphere! Was sooo excited when this Philz opened! Just down the street from us and I love seeing more of my favorite coffee shops opening nearby. The outdoor patio in the back is such a nice touch: bright yellow umbrellas over the seats that give it a backyard vibe. Inside, there's a decent amount of seating with booths and tables, plus a couple tables out front. One thing I've noticed is that drinks tend to take a little longer to come out at this store vs others, but the staff are friendly and quality is still consistent, so it's worth the wait. As for parking... if you know downtown Willow Glen, you know it's rough. The 2-story lot across the street fills up fast, so best bet is trying the lot behind Aqui's or street parking. read more

This was one of my first visits to Philz coffee so I wasn't familiar with their cup sizes. When I was ordering, the cashier asked me what size I wanted for my drink. Because I was unaware, I stated if I could get a regular size. But when I said this statement the cashier looked at me in a very annoyed facial expression and talked in a slightly rude tone. She asked if I wanted a small, medium, or large because she didn't understand what I wanted but in an annoyed way. I understand it's a bit frustrating for me to not know the correct sizes and I apologize for that. But at least be understanding towards a new customer you know? There, Phil Jaber and his son, Jacob, started a small coffee shop that will soon become one of the best places in the state to get a cup o' Joe. Why it wasn't that long ago when the DTSJ location was the only one in the South Bay, and now there seven throughout, with this Willow Glen location being the newest. The Good: *I haven't been here in weekends, but weekday mornings are never too busy as there's hardly ever a line. *Friendly service *I'm glad they finally went to a more traditional approach to ordering coffee at the counter, as opposed to older method of having to speak directly to the barista. *Outdoor seating *One of the few places you can control the sweetness & creaminess level of the coffee; I always order "medium cream and light sweet." *While they don't have as many mixed drinks as the usual coffee purveyor, it's nice to see them have a few regular mixed, as well as some seasonal offerings. *Prices are actually pretty decent as I usually only spend ±$6 for a medium. The Meh: *Cashless business. Fwiw, I could care less, but someone might. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *Restroom needs a code which is mildly annoying *Linear store design, as it's much longer than it is wide, and only seats ±20-25 people. This is a cute place to sit and work or grab and go, I typically go! You must get there early if you want a seat. I always go for a drink whenever I'm around the area, Willow Glen downtown is cool! Often my reviews of coffee are about stopping in at Starbucks. However, when Philz is around, that is my ultimate go to. Why - the coffee blends hit it out of the park for me. Smooth, silky, deep, rich, etc. Taste buds are unique to each of us so having a favorite coffee spot is also uniquely, well, "YOU." Expect to wait a bit, especially if you enter and there is already a line. Is it worth it? Yes, but make sure you have the time to watch how the baristas do a hand poured coffee for you. If you don't have the time, there is most likely a Starbucks close by that will get you in / out quickly. This is not a fancy coffee blend. This is for true coffee lovers. However, I am a fan of their ice mint coffee (that's with fresh mint). Pastries? Yes, they have locally made goodies you can chose from as well to pair up with the delicious coffee blend. Take time to talk to the team before placing your order. Give them a bit of information around what you like and they can help you select a perfect blend. They will also ask how sweet (how much sugar, if any, you want) and creamy (how much milk, cream or alternative milk based product) you may want. HUGE FAN! Give them a try. read more

I generally love Philz. This location is an exception. They are very, very slow compared to other Philz locations. On multiple occasions, there has been no one in line and it has taken around 15 minutes to receive my cup of coffee after the order with no one in front of me. I realize that Philz takes great pride and it cane take time to produce a fine product, but this place is unusually slow relative to other Philz establishments. read more

Been getting Philz for the last decade! I love this location located in downtown willow glen, there is ample seating both inside, and outside. They have a back patio but the ambiance back there leaves much to be desired. If you don't mind the street noise, they have a few tables out front. Service is hit or miss depending on how busy they get, I try to place my order ahead of time on the app to reduce the amount of time waiting. As for the food, my go-to is the Kouign-amann which is flakey caramelized pastry. I suggest skipping the bagels. I got an everything bagel and it was the toughest, dry bagel I've ever had. Philz Coffee has the best coffee I've ever had! The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans lingers throughout the café. The coffee station is lined with a variety of coffee beans, and the team of baristas are busy grinding them fresh to retain the flavor. Although the café is very spacious, it has limited seating, so I opted for an Iced Mocha to-go. The coffee was incredibly aromatic, with rich, bold notes of dark chocolate, caramel, and a hint of smokiness from the roasted beans. The quality of the chocolate was exceptional--rich, and perfectly balanced, adding just the right level of sweetness without overpowering the coffee's deep, complex flavors. The iced coffee itself was wonderfully creamy, and unlike most places where iced coffee can taste watered down, Philz has truly mastered the balance. Today, October 19th, I went to Philz to pick up a coffee I ordered online. My order confirmation said it would be ready by 9:50 a.m. When I arrived, it wasn't ready, so I waited and asked the barista, Sabrina -- the app showed she was making my drink, but she told me the two guys on the right were handling it instead. After waiting another 10 minutes with no name called, I asked a tall male barista if my drink was ready. He said it had been "sitting there" the whole time. I was confused why it was just sitting behind the counter and no one called my name until I asked. To make matters worse, I ordered a large coffee but was given a medium. When I mentioned this, he took the medium, poured it into a large cup, and added more ice right in front of me -- using the same coffee that had already been sitting for 10 minutes. The drink was watered down by that point, and I didn't have time to deal with it because I had to get to work. I hope the manager reviews what happened (the cameras should show it) and addresses how this was handled. The service felt careless and unprofessional, and I'd appreciate it if the staff were more attentive to online orders and customer interactions. read more

It is just hard to find a place to sit since it is small and doesn't have many options, but I understand that it is no one's fault and it can get very busy. The only downside is that it can be inconsistent. This specific location is very hit or miss with the drinks and I have had to go back a few times to make my drink sweeter after I ordered it sweet and creamy. I live nearby and used to love Philz, but I've had some bad experiences lately. Today was the worst of all. I ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk via the app. On my first sip, I got an entire coffee bean in my mouth. I had no idea how it might have gotten in there, considering my drink had no coffee in it. I should have had them remake the drink right then, but I didn't want to be difficult and kept drinking. The flavor was just okay and the drink wasn't very hot, despite my picking it up as soon as the app said it was ready. I was about halfway through when I discovered another chunk in a sip--this time, a chamomile flower, likely from a tea mix. I have no idea how that got in there. I brought it back to the counter to let them know. The barista I spoke to was apologetic and asked if she could make me another. I was grossed out and didn't want more, so I politely declined and told her I just wanted them to know that it had happened. I feel lucky that I didn't have an allergy to either of the materials that somehow found their way into my drink, but this was a bad enough experience that I will take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

First time at this Philz, and I chose the stormiest of days! Due to the rainy weather the place was mostly empty this morning so yay, no line to wait in! I ordered a large hot coffee sweet and creamy and a croissant. Very surprised that the coffee was just too sweet. My coffee was the bold dark roast so I was not expecting that. Usually other places under sweeten when I ask for it sweet and creamy. I wish I had asked for them to re-do it, because it really was not to my liking to have it that sweet. Even my teenage daughter tried it and said, wow that tastes like hot chocolate it's so sweet. But I drank it anyway. Second thing , it was not hot at all ... totally lukewarm. Man, I was disappointed. Oh well, it's my own fault to drink something I was unhappy about. My husband ordered a breakfast burrito and it was way better here than at the Cupertino location, so not sure if they changed vendors or if every location makes them on site but these guys make a better burrito. I'd say this experience was between 3 and 4 stars, but I bumped it up to 4 because the people working here were all very nice and sweet. read more

Haven't been to a Philz that I haven't enjoyed! Beware: parking is difficult to find in Willow Glen. I was lucky enough to find parking behind the store, but there are limited spots. There's also a parking garage across the street you can try your luck at. I love the green/yellow color scheme at this location. The Philz closest to me is in downtown SJ and the color scheme is brown/orange. Willow Glen's location is much larger and has more indoor/outdoor seats. I also liked how there were little chalkboards with the names of the baristas, it's a nice touch and gives a friendly vibe to the place! I ordered a drink and took a seat. I stayed at a table for a few hours while I read and had my coffee. There were many customers coming in and out constantly, so this location gets a lot of foot traffic. Iced Coffee Rose: 3/5 This drink was recommended to me by a friend, but I wasn't too big on the floral flavors. I don't think it's bad on any account, but it's just not my cup of tea (or in this case, coffee)! Either way, I still finished the whole cup. Overall, the staff was nice and the store was clean.
