There are some popular spots for Vietnamese coffee enthusiasts. I admit I am late to the party checking out Phin, but once experienced I am hooked! It is tucked away with Little Saigon a few blocks east and the rest of the International District further west. Often you can find 2 hour street parking around the corner proximate to the current tent village. First visit was back on 11/24/21 accompanied with The Homie on a multi-destination jaunt in the neighborhood. Ordered the standard coffee, iced for The Homie, hot for me. Amazing flavor! Love that the cups, lids, and straw were all compostable. It was nice to sit briefly to enjoy the visually pleasing surroundings and wow the aroma from the made to order pandan waffles being prepared for the two guys behind us in line, omg. If we didn't have a lunch destination in mind, I would have had one too. Second visit was on a recent cold, rainy, early Saturday morning (12/4/21). I ordered three pandan waffles to go. Again, that tantalizing aroma from the waffle irons wafted in the air. All three were nicely packed in a carryout bag. The scent permeated my car as I headed back up north towards University Village. I hand delivered two of the three to The Homie and his friend who were in a grand opening line for a new shop. They were both surprised and grateful for the tasty treat that functioned temporary hand warmers. I laughed when others in line said farewell to the "waffle goddess". I didn't eat the remaining one until much later in the day. Following a suggestion from fellow Yelp Elite/IG friend and Phin fan, Wendy K, I divided my waffle into quarters and placed them in the toaster. I spread a light smear of butter and it became quite the amazing late night snack. Another earlier review from Eileen H, said it best "like a mochi waffle and bubble waffle had a baby". Definitely do not compare this to a frozen Eggo. Clearly, the coffees and pandan waffles experienced to date are top quality, crafted with pride and focused attention to detail. One of my favorite Vietnamese coffee shops in the ID. I love introducing friends to it and was able to bring a new friend here yesterday. Everything is a labor of love here. House made almost everything and sustainable on top of it! I have been slowly making my through the list of items offered. I got to try two items I've been wanting to get for awhile the flan with coffee ice and chanh muối (salted limesoda) house made salted limes in a fizzy refreshing soda. The soda was refreshing and was like lime soda with a bit of li hing. Flan is not usually my go to dessert, but can't rave enough about this dish. I think its the contrast in textures and flavor of the coffee ice. One of the reasons I love this place, I feel like the experience is just as wonderful as their products. Because the Vietnamese coffee is made using phin it takes a little longer, and it makes you take a breathe and relax a bit. I am such a sucker for a good Vietnamese coffee. We're talking the type of coffee that electrifies your veins the second a drop hits your tongue and rids your body of any previous tiredness. The kind that punches you in the face with its strength and boldness. The kind of coffee that makes any other non-Vietnamese coffee taste like a weak tea. I'll take that straight to the veins at any opportunity, please and thank you. All this to say that Phin was far and away my favorite coffee that I had on our 4-day Seattle trip. And trust, we drank a lot of coffee. The cà phê sữa exceeded every expectation I had for it and was the perfect afternoon pick me up I needed. It was so strong and so good, with the delightful condensed milk bringing the perfect creaminess and sweetness to it without overshadowing the taste of the coffee. And on top of that, they had a pandan waffle?! Really checking off all of my boxes here. Pandan waffles are one of my favorite sweets but I almost never get to have them, so I was practically giddy with excitement. The Vietnamese coffee here is STRONG. VERY STRONG. Coming from a guy that doesn't drink coffee for almost a year, this coffee did me well for 16+ hours even though they added a lot of ice to the cup (hence the coffee is only 6oz for hot but 12oz for cold, but they give the same amount for either choice). But it's really flavorful and sweet. The pandan waffle seems to be a popular choice here as well so I went all out on the sweets and wasn't disappointed. Note that this is a local family shop so the setting is a bit modest on one side, but with an elegant contrast of the sign and various Vietnamese books on the other side to cater to the people that like to take food pics. Do take note that because there's only 2 people running the place, don't expect a quick coffee run - plan at least 30 min, and in such covid situations would not dock a star just cause of understaffing. This seems to be a local's favorite - the owners enjoy experimenting with new drinks etc from customers, if you wish to try that out. Humble coffee shop situated on the edge of Chinatown. They have a beautiful Lelit Bianca for their espresso drinks and are running with a Baratza Sette and two Encores. Really shows how far "home setups" can go! I really like their workflow setup, which has the barista facing the customers openly and not behind a massive espresso machine like most places. I've only ever gotten the yogurt coffee here which is insanely good. Sometimes I wish I could just buy a tub of their yogurt to take home. read more

Upon entering, I could immediately smell the lovely aroma of the Vietnamese coffee and the pandan waffles. This place was decorated beautifully with plants, books, and great seating. When ordering, the workers were so kind and patient as I decided what I wanted to order. Everything looked delicious and I ended up getting the pandan waffle (which is made with pandan leaves which gives it that green tint). I then waited in a comfy chair and found myself looking at the books they had. They were all children's and poetry books written and illustrated by AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) writers and illustrators!! I thought this was wonderful and I didn't hesitate to flip through the pages of all the books. This was a great way to wait for my order. Once they called my name, I went up and received a fresh pandan waffle which was warm and had a little crunch to it which I loved. I wish I went and purchased another one since it was so good! I don't drink coffee, but I've become a regular at Phin thanks to their addicting pandan waffles. They are crispy on the outside, chewier than your average waffle on the inside (like a mochi waffle and bubble waffle had a baby), not too sweet, and the pandan flavor is perfection. They may look unassuming but are a must try if you make a stop to Phin, especially because I can't think of any other place that serves up pandan waffles like they do. I tried their egg soda during my first visit. I was underwhelmed by the drink because it just tasted like a lightly sweetened soda and I don't think the egg contributes anything to the flavor or consistency of the beverage. They have a very limited menu, but I appreciate that they occasionally roll out with new items to try. If you need a reason to come here, do it for the pandan waffles. Parking can be a challenge because it's street parking only, but the pandan waffles are worth it. read more

The store itself is pretty small but very cute, it has a lot of decors and was very Instagramable. We ordered the Vietnamese coffee and a panda waffle. For $5, the Vietnamese coffee was not worth it at all. It was an 8oz cup and my husband couldn't even taste anything special about the coffee. The panda waffle was ok for me as well. It's crispy on the outside and chewy soft on the inside and has a very subtle hint of panda. I feel like bambu makes it better though. This cafe is one of the only places to order Salted Plum Soda (xí muội) in Seattle. This Vietnamese drink is my favorite, but difficult to find on restaurant menus. So I was very excited to see it on Phin's menu. The Salted Plum Soda was refreshing, but I would've liked more plum flavor and soda, instead of ice. I think the ice and water diluted the flavor. Perhaps, an option to customize this drink could be added in the future? My friend ordered the Yogurt Coffee, which looked and sounded interesting to me. I think it may be a refined taste for some people, but seems to be a popular drink on the menu! I also ordered the Pandan Waffle, which was soft and crunchy in the right places. During this week that I visited Phin, they were giving out free samples of their homemade condensed milk and encouraged me to try it with the Pandan Waffle. The condensed milk was great, but made the waffle a little too sweet, but both were wonderful on their own! During this COVID-19 pandemic, indoor dining is closed, but I look forward to the day I can sit in the cafe because the interior is beautifully decorated. Phin resides in the same building that houses both the newly developed Thai Binh Apartments and Phnom Penh Noodle House. I'm very happy to see Phin join this neighborhood to balance out the saturation of bubble tea places in the Chinatown-International District. Got the bac siu with oat milk (less coffee than the classic and lightly sweetened) and it was super delicious. Reminded me more of the coffee in Vietnam, like when the ice would melt from the ca phe sua da. I dunno. I really liked it, it wasn't too sweet or too bitter, really good balance. Interior is interesting, feels more like a parlor/library. Loved the collection of books by Vietnamese authors. Definitely a different feel than other Vietnamese coffee shops. This small cafe is tucked away from the main streets of ID, so parking in the area is a tiny bit easier (though still difficult). Their Vietnamese iced coffee is delicious and I love their pandan waffle. They even sell a waffle mix, which I haven't tried but I'm sure it's good. It seems family owned as well as each time I've been it's the same couple working. It's a small space with minimal seating though, so it might not be the best for working. We wanted to go somewhere for coffee this morning and decided to try some place 'new to us' which lead us here. The coffee shop is small with around 4 tables, lots of plants and a warm welcoming vibe. There is a small counter up front in which you place your order or go to collect your online order. Never having gone here before, we were not sure how crowded it would be so we placed an online order. We arrived ~5 mins after the 'expected ready' time and they had not realized or confirmed our order. Luckily for us, they told us 3 minutes and the order was ready. It was fast and friendly service. We ordered the: trà ô long (Yogurt Coffee) da ua (Vietnamese Yogurt) trà ô long (Oolong Tea) My favorite was the trà ô long. It had a nice rich vietnamese coffee taste with a tangy creamy flavor provided by the yogurt. I think for this item only it would be a must try if you are into trying new coffee places and go here. The da ua by itself was disappointing but that could have been my own expectations for it not to taste like grocery store yogurt. I even had my fiance try it and he said the same. This is something I would skip for next time. As for the Oolong Tea, my fiance said it was very very nice. I didn't get to try it he finished it so quick but sounds like a winner. read more

You give me a good Vietnamese coffee and I'm a happy gal! I was so excited for Phin's opening and they really delivered on all of my expectations and more. Phin's owners pride themselves in creating an experience in their space, hence the name, Vietnamese coffee and etc. They focus on sustainability and culture, and I believe their food and drinks truly represent that practice. Some of the really memorable items I tried are: Yogurt Coffee - iced coffee layered over yogurt. Surprisingly refreshing and the tanginess lends itself to compliment the strong coffee, don't sleep on this item! Vietnamese Coffee - what more can I say? Strong, not overly sweet, plus they use their housemade condensed milk, which really makes a difference imo. A must-try! Pandan Waffle - this is solidly the best thing on the menu. Dare I say, even more than the coffee? It was the perfect combination of texture and taste, crispy on the outside and soft/chewy on the inside. For $5, it's a steal. The Hong Kong egg waffle （格仔餅）is something that's offered in many places but hard to master. But I can confidently say that this place has gotten it right! Their waffle is fluffy and soft on the inside and it was delicious. The place is cute and located on the first floor in a new apartment building but the street outside is a bit rough (just the general area). Tasty, no frills, Vietnamese coffee. Vietnamese coffee has "taken off" over the past couple of years in the Seattle area with so many spots opening up with the tasty offerings. Each place has their own unique take and you can't go wrong with visiting any of them. Phin has some delicious classics and also has some fun treats with a twist. We ordered the pandan waffle (tasty), the flan w/ coffee ice chips (a crowd favorite amongst the 3 of us visiting), and a couple of drinks. My husband's brother was the one that ordered two different drinks (I can't remember what they were) but he loved them both. My husband is Vietnamese and when his family has been in town to visit...some other coffeeshops were a bit "too much" for them even though we loved them - or too sweet for them. We tried the cafe sua da and cafe sua chua. I never had it before. I love Vietnamese yogurt and what an interesting combination with coffee. It has a sweet, tart and bitter taste of coffee. Great little coffee spot in Little Saigon. You get to watch the workers brew the coffee using a Vietnamese phin right in front of you! The worker was nice and easy to talk to about the coffee and Vietnamese naming (we talk about sua chua vs da ua lol) I got the yogurt coffee and enjoyed it. Always on the look out for specialty coffee shops and this one is to check out! I was VERY hesitant on yogurt coffee (hah?). I first thought it was some Yakult dumped in iced coffee, but instead it seems like they use homemade yogurt! Vietnamese style I believe (not exactly as thick as your basic yogurt, but thicker than Yakult). It made the coffee oh so creamy, but confusing at the same time. It's something you should try for yourself to see! Pandan waffle: she was thicc. But so crispy on the outside but chewy mochi like on the inside. Good to share with at least one other person. Since moving to Seattle, I've developed a newfound appreciation for coffee. There are so many options here and Phin has 2 that seem particularly unique - Yogurt Coffee and Coconut Slush Coffee. The Yogurt Coffee was very interesting with a tangy taste. My husband really liked it, but I preferred the Coconut Slush - the coconut milk + condensed milk is such a great combination.
