Bun Rieu - 3.5 stars. Tomato base was nostalgic for me. The tofu was nice and spongy/soft. Fri dinner 2024-12-20

No wait on a Friday night around 5:30pm for 7 of us. They had plenty of space for any group size. It cost $25 total including tax/tip for 1.5 large pho bowls. Service was fast and friendly * Bun Rieu - 3.5 stars. I couldn't taste the crab, and I've only had this dish a couple times, but the tomato base was nostalgic for me. The tofu was nice and spongy/soft.

This has been my Pho Ga spot after the Turtle Towers closed. Their version is as just good, notably the order with gizzards and livers. A large bowl should fill you up. I would go out of the way to have it here. The Deep Fried Wings were decent and should go well with rice. The Bun Rieu was decent though broth was on the sweet side. Bun Bo Hue I'm not sure would get it again. The Spring Rolls are also big but is full of lettuce and rice noodle as fillers. As a result, it's bland and the dipping sauce was just okay - could not saved it. Plenty of metered and residential street parking in this busy area as there are many eateries around.

5 spice chicken: Decent piece of chicken but is it really 5 spice. I swear they're just buying the seasoning for my past 2 dishes from hoi wah. Fish sauce was more of a sweet and sour sauce, you can see the redness of it. It was tender at least. Also cmon... half a slice of tomato. Fool me once shame on me fool me twice... ya know. Apparently the pho ga is good but I'm done. Catch me at pho recipe if anyone wants the best pho ga in the city

Good little spot. Have been coming here for 6 years. Chicken salad pretty good. Pho is good. Cash only.

Came in and got seated right away as a party of 4! The store had a good amount of seats inside and has decent flow of customers. Our party ordered Imperial Rolls as an appetizer and I ordered the Bun Bo Hue as my main dish. Imperial Rolls: 5/5 These came out fast and was super fresh. The skin was crispy which I loved! Bun Bo Hue: 5/5 The soup was piping hot when it came out. Came with a good amount of meat as seen in the picture. I can tell they did not skimp out on the meat/ingredients to cook the broth as it was so tasty! Service was friendly and very attentive! Would definitely come back again if I'm in the area.

The Bun Bo Hue was GREAT. Though the vegetables on the side did not look fresh so I did not eat them.

Omg I was amazed at how good this chicken pho was! Place is like a typical older pho restaurant, but the food is great. Pho seems fresh and broth was perfect. Good service but it was definitely hard to find parking. We drove around for a good 20 minutes to find something :(

their bunrieu is exceptionally good here!!

This review is solely based on their bun rieu. I'm such a fanatic for this dish that I honestly have no interest trying anything else on their menu LOL. Since the pandemic, I've been satisfying my almost weekly cravings of bun rieu from this restaurant. This one surprisingly does not serve it with any pork cake, sadly :( (and porks blood) like most other places do BUT that's okay. The taste and authenticity makes up for it. I usually order a small/regular portion and it usually comes with enough noodle and soup to feed TWO people. Sometimes if I'm feeling fat and mighty, I end up eating the whole order to myself which ends up into a major food coma...definitely do not recommend doing that if you want to have a productive day hahahaha. As of right now, I don't believe the restaurant is open for dine in since the doorway is still being blocked from the last time I ordered from them which was this past week.

We had chicken salad and the usual stuff, the pho. The only bad thing about this location, street parking is very hard. The second time I had the food was by Uber Eats. I also ordered the salad. Unfortunately it didn't taste as good as I had the first time. But it came with a lot of peanuts.

Cash only! Pho #1 is apparently known for their Chicken Pho, so I ordered a small of that. No need for a large unless you are super hungry, but for some perspective, a small fed my 6'3" guy friend fine. The chicken pho was really delicious! The broth tasted clean, and the chicken was nicely shredded. The flat rice noodles tasted fresh, with a great chewy consistency. Perfect for a chilly day, recovering from a cold, or satisfying a need for some comfort food. I also ordered the 3 Color Drink. I think the ratio of toppings to drink was a little off for my liking. I ended up tossing half the drink because it was just the toppings in the end with no liquid. My friend got their mango slushy, and it tastes as if they blended the Costco mango nectar juice with some ice and sold it for $5. Both drinks were not worth getting in my opinion.

    Five Spices Chicken with Rice

Busy, busy San Bruno Avenue. Cars double parked, cars waiting at parking lot entrances for people to leave, people living in cars in one lot, person changing their oil in the same lot, what the heck, it's a turn-off to go into the area unless you live close by or are just desensitized to the whole car congestion thingy.... So we found a space around 11am to have an early lunch on a Sunday. Short walk to Pho Uno with no wait, place filled up within half an hour. Cash only place for large bowls of Pho, Bun, and Rice plates. Wife had Grilled Pork, Fried Viet Roll over Vermicelli Noodles with side of fish sauce, I had Five Spice Chicken over Rice with a bowl of House soup. Tasty main courses with a lot of food, had better Five Spice Chicken elsewhere but it was passable. Need more Five Spice... wife's Bun was huge and she boxed it up for dinner. Service was passable. Around $11 per person with tax and tip for lunch.

Pho #1 is not my #1 choice for pho. My roommate ordered a pho and I ordered a pork vermicelli through DoorDash. Firstly, they never notified that our food was ready and the step kept showing that they were preparing our order, even when we got home with the food. We just went in to check because it was taking way longer than we expected, so if your order doesn't move, just go in and check. My vermicelli was fine. The portion was really big, packed to the top with a lot of meat. My roommate, on the other hand, ordered pho but got thick flat noodles. In addition, she thought the flavor was off and broth was too oily.

We also ordered kakesoba, chicken tender and mochi. Both cold and hot soba are unique and yummy. I like soba texture and yhe broth cold and hot are yummy. The kaikage is unique as it is a bit chewy. The tempura ended up being too oily, so I didn't finish it, but I did really like the soba soup. It was quite tasty and savory. Also got to sit next to the lucky Buddha, and I rubbed the feet, so that was actually quite a nice blessing. The chef is really, really nice. Even though he was being swarmed, he was very nice to me and taught me how everything worked. Bad: The soba noodles themselves were just okay. They didn't have much flavor, and they didn't taste that great to me. It's also pretty expensive to get just an appetizer and a soba dish. It was over $40. Overall, I'm glad I came and tried out this super unique and special place in SF. I had a day off, so it was worth the wait. If I weren't coming on a day off, it would be harder to justify the wait.

The food was good, but there were a few things that kept it from being a 5-star experience. I ordered the Pad See Ew, and while the flavor was tasty, it was noticeably salty to the point where I ended up drinking about four cups of water afterward. The portions also felt somewhat small for the price. For example, the crispy calamari was $14.50 and came with only around 4-6 pieces, which felt a little underwhelming. Service was probably a 3/5 for me and my family. When we were ordering, the server's tone came across as a bit hostile, and we felt rushed both while ordering and eating. That said, the food still had good flavor and I can see why people enjoy this place. The ambiance definitely added to the experience, and with slightly better portion sizes and a more welcoming service experience, this spot could easily be even better.

One of the standout appetizers was the spicy enoki chips. They were packed with flavor while still feeling light and crispy. Fair warning--they definitely bring some heat! I love spicy food, and while the spice didn't linger much on my tongue, it definitely had my nose running a bit. My husband ordered the GKO ramen bowl, and it was absolutely loaded with flavor. The garlic-forward broth was rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. It does get a little heavy toward the end, and you'll probably leave with garlic breath--but it's 100% worth it. I ordered the Spicy Signature Toripaitan ramen, and we were both glad I did. Despite the name, it's not particularly spicy, which was perfectly fine with me. The broth was creamy, flavorful, and comforting without being as rich as the GKO. The duck chashu was incredibly tender, and the oyster mushrooms added a wonderful chewy texture that balanced the bowl beautifully. Add the enoki chips to the broth, you won't regret it! Service was great. We were checked in on frequently and always had a refill when needed which was definitely needed when we ate the enoki chips. At least for my husband anyway. We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. It was just so good and flavorful. The soup dumplings were amazing. So much perfect flavor. They held together until the bite. So good. The hot and sour soup was plenty tasty. Not the best I've ever had but certainly among the best. The only thing I will say is that one of my companions can't have seaweed. The wonton soup was amazing but full of seaweed. It wasn't listed on the menu and we have never had seaweed in any other wonton soup so didn't know to ask if it could be left out. That was sad. I'd actually rank this place slightly above Daeho given the shorter wait, the quality, and the price. I'll be back for sure.
