Pho 1 is Awesome! The food is delicious with large portions! The atmosphere is perfect, chill and colorful. The staff are friendly! Go here often with my husband to dine in and to take out. The menu is on point. The shrimp in the blanket (see pic below) is unique and fresh. The coconut soup with chicken (see pic below) is absolutely delicious and loaded. I went here for dinner one day with a friend and we were not very impressed. We ordered spring rolls to start off as our appetizer. For entrees we had the #47 Dac Biet, which is is the beef noodle soup with flank, tendon, and tripe, and the #52 Rice Noodle soup, which comes with shrimp, pork, calamari, imitation crab meat, and fishcake The spring rolls were just awful. First of all, I like my spring rolls whole and when the order came out it had already been cut into 4 pieces. These spring rolls were very bad, I tasted the vegetables more than anything because they barely put any shrimp or noodles in there. It was like 70% veggies with barely any meat or taste. We did enjoy our extra large pho soups, but we did note that there was barely any meat in them. For my rice noodle soup, there was about 2 pieces of shrimp, pork, calamari, and fishcake. I don't even remember there being imitation crab in there. There was plenty of noodles, but I wish they had at least a little more meat. They didn't even apologize...and no one from the kitchen came out to say sorry. We didn't make a scene but we should have considering how careless they were. I've been here a couple times now, and it is always pretty yummy. Prices are good and the food is tasty. It is an Asian fusion place with a combo of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai, so it's less focused on authenticity. But I would def come back for the pho. Lots of great vegetarian/vegan options. My husband has gone to this restaurant 3 times in one week! It does help that the location is super close to work where he and his coworkers go for lunch as well as close to our house that he can grab take out. Wanted to share with everyone that they do make Korean fried chicken. Per Hubby, It may not be as amazing as Bon Chon or Crave but it'll do if you have a craving and it's so close by. It's called Double Fried and they can make it with soy garlic ( mild) sauce or crazy(spicy). The spicy isn't as spicy as he expected but he loves the chicken so it's just convenient. 3 stars since we haven't tried out many of the other items yet. We have only done take out because of the reviews about how busy the restaurant is so we probably won't visit for a sit in until after a few months. Came here after we saw a pic on IG of their Pho #1 double fried soy garlic chicken- looked SO GOOD! Im always down for finding alternatives to our favorite Bonchon Chicken in Allston. Since it's in Waltham, parking is way easier and there was no wait on a Saturday night. CHICKEN: The chicken was DELICIOUS. I felt that it was cooked very well- Incredibly crunchy on the outside, but still very moist on the inside. This is one thing I find that most double fried chicken wing places don't do well as the inside frequently ends up dry and hard. Also, the chicken wings and drums are MUCH bigger than bonchon or crave. The sauce is soy garlic- however it does NOT taste like bonchon's sauce. Still very good though. PHO: The dac biet pho was good but I wouldn't say it's the best- my fiancé felt they really skimped out on the meat and the broth didn't have as much of a strong beef flavor. The food was really excellent. However the service was terrible. We didn't get anything unless we asked, including the check. From there we had to literally chase the servers down so they could process the payment. Happened last time we ate here as well. I also didn't appreciate being scolded for not liking a dish and sending it back. To be fair, the server told me it was a smelly fish, but fish by definition is smelly, so I didn't quite understand. Once I told her I didn't like the dish, didn't eat it, and wanted to order something else, she told me I would still have to pay for it because I had been warned. Why is such a problematic dish still on the menu? I said I wasn't going to pay for something I hadn't eaten and was told I needed to speak to the manager. I agreed, but the manager never came out of the kitchen. Instead I was told they would take the dish back and not charge me, but I was not to do this again. Geez, thanks for that slap on the wrist like I'm a school kid. To top it off 18 percent gratuity was included on the bill. We couldn't even decide what we wanted to tip. Since I've been to the Pho 1 in Brighton, I would assume this location is just as good for satisfying my craving for a warm bowl of noodle soup. I really wanted to get the clear noodle soup with seafood (#51), but unfortunately, that didn't happen. We ordered on Grubhub and I saw the 2 options for #51 one for clear noodles and one for rice noodles, so we ordered the clear noodle option, a vermicelli dish, chili duck, and Thai iced tea. Delivery came a bit early, which was great and I was so excited, but at the bottom of the dish, there was not clear noodles, but rice noodles. I was quite sad but still was able to enjoy the sweet broth of the soup along with the seafood. The Thai iced tea was super sweet and tasty but does leave your tongue a little bit orange afterward. The vermicelli looked great and the chili duck was alright. It wasn't too spicy and comes with a sweet glaze. The portion sizes are perfect for one meal, filling, but not overly stuffed. First time here so I dont want to knock it just yet, but Im used to eating Vietnamese at Pho Pasteur in downtown boston. This place has a long way to go, it seems, to get to that standard of food. I tried Rice Paper Work (Banh Hoi), which is described as "A traditional Vietnamese style of eating where fresh mint, lettuce, watercress , cucumber, tomato, roasted peanut, scallion and steamed rice vermicelli are rolled by hand at the table into softened rice paper. Season it with homemade sauce "nuoc cham" on the side." I loved the idea. I didn't know what I was doing -- but had a lot of fun and it was delicious. (Word or warning -- you put the rice paper into the hot water before trying to eat it!) My wife had a tasty dish -- although she accidentally ate a hot pepper that lasted all day. Hey, these things happen. We were so happy, we went one week later. OMG -- what a mistake. We were seated promptly and then they totally forgot about us. No water. No server. Other people got things. We got annoyed. Eventually, we caught the eye of our server. Already, we were hungry. I wanted to try the Korean Fried Chicken -- which is talked about a lot. Well, it came hot on the outside and RAW on the inside. I do not know how they did it. But, it was red, raw chicken -- which I consider a health risk. Fortunately, I saw it right away as it is my tendency to cut my fried chicken drummies. But, it I just bit into it ......... My Bi Bim Bop was terribly overcooked. Stopped in here yesterday and I was quite surprised. It was not busy at all and it seemed welcoming. Not too small and not too big of a place. Seems like they had a good amount of takeout orders. I got the beef pho and it was really good! The broth was tasty and hot and the noodles were tender. Not too salty, just the perfect amount. I would come back on a cool winter day for the pho. I also had the honey bbq chicken strips and they were really good as well. Super crispy. Maybe try another sauce but otherwise really good. I would come back for the pho. Wow what's happening with this place? Notice all the recent reviews from everyone.... ? Who's managing the place? Why is it getting worse and worse? If there was an option for no stars, I would but whatever. I just can't believe how badly, rudely, unprofessionally and hurtful the service was. Atmosphere: 6/10, definitely a good place to bring the family or hang out with friends for good thai/korean cuisine and drinks. Menu: 8/10, there were so many choices on the menu, everyone can find something that they can enjoy, but it did take our group a long time to go through the menu and make decisions. Appetizers: 9/10, the double friend chicken wings were absolutely amazing, definitely recommend getting them if you are eating here, comes in multiple flavors for those who like do and do not like spicy foods. We were giving two sides with the wings and we chose radishes (amazing) and French fries which were surprisingly good. Entrees: 8/10, I thought I would try something different so I chose the chicken budak and it was an excellent choice. It was a little spicy but oh my goodness was it delicious. If you like a little spice in your entrée but don't want your tongue to be on fire, this is the choice for you. Also, the portion was a little small, so if you like smaller portion sizes, then this is for you. The Menú was definitely overwhelming they have many many options to choose from. It's a small restaurant that has amazing food !! I always get the Pho which is like a soup with veggies, noodles and if you want you can add meat to it, I've had it both ways. Simply breath taking! Well here we go. A new name, an upgraded menu, but the same let down as before. Pho 1 has been rebranded from its predecessor Tom Can Cook. However, despite the emphasize on Vietnamese cuisine as the name should imply, it's still the confused version of its past self. Branding themselves as an "asian fusion" restaurant (God I hate those), Pho offers a variety of Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese and Korean dishes. Now the reason I hate fusion restaurants? It means there's too much variety and most likely, no dishes are expertly prepared. You end up getting a shell of the true dish, and a plain, sad experience. Typically though, fusion restaurants are a combination of two, maybe three different cuisines at most. But four? Geez, I came in expecting a train wreck and I walked out of a blinding nova explosion. Ok ok, that may be too harsh. After all, it isn't a one star review, nor is this place unpopular by any means. But again, it's marketed towards students / locals that can't bother driving closer to the city to get better asian food. This place provides a one stop shop all situation for Asian cuisine, and I can see the appeal. After all, when this place used to be Tom Can Cook, I loved it here as a Bentley college student who couldn't travel too far outside the Bentley bubble for fear of suffocation in this strange, outside world. I had to stay close to my roots, y'know?  Still, if you want real, authentic cuisine, please don't go here. It's made worse by the fact this place actually tries hard on its menu to make it authentic.  There are plenty of dishes you wouldn't see in a standard fusion restaurant, and that have real roots to their corresponding culture - not just the more common mainstream things like bibimbap, pho or pad thai, but items like tofu chigae, Korean wings and vietnamese noodle dishes. Unfortunately, it falls flat. We ordered various types of these dishes, and boy was it far off. The food was just that lackluster.  I will have to say, their lunch specials are ok for the price, quality and quanity. One last thing that pissed me off - they don't want to deal with pennies (even virtual pennies as I paid by card), so they round up. ROUND UP. I know it's just a few pennies, but a scam is still a scam. Pretty sure that's technically illegal as you're no longer paying the listed price on the menu, so I HIGHLY recommend changing that business practice sooner rather than later. The large portion of the pho was a big bowl and had a good amount of meat. my boyfriend ordered the medium sized chicken wings and there was a lot, so he couldn't finish all of it. Good pho place with great prices! I've been here or ordered from here many times. There's convenient parking around Moody Street, so it's also pretty easy to get to. I usually get pho or bun (vermicelli), and the food is always fresh. The sprouts, basil and mint that come as toppings are really good quality and fresh year round. Every table also has chili oil, which I like to put in as a topping. The meat in the pho is also good, with generous helpings of that and the noodles. The shrimp toast is also legit and reminded me of what I used to get at Vietnamese places all the time when I was young. The scallion pancakes are pretty good for a non-Chinese place. I've eaten here three or four times now, and the food is a solid 4--pretty good! However, when we were here today, the service was not the greatest. Firstly, the person taking our orders didn't seem to understand what we said, or maybe wasn't listening keenly enough. For example, we'd say "double fried chicken with garlic sauce, small combo with radish", and the server would need the number of the dish, then ask what size, whether we'd like wings/drums/combo, ask for the side, and ask what sauce we like. This would have been less annoying had it been just for one dish, but no, every single dish had a multi-step ordering process. After orders were in, they got two orders wrong. Our Pad See Ew became a Pad Woon Sen. We told the server that we ordered Pad See Ew instead--no worries, they made us a Pad See Ew. We also ordered a Banh Hoi combo, which has shrimp, shrimp with sugar cane and grilled pork, but only the grilled pork portion came. We figured that it must have gone in wrong, and didn't bother our server. When the bill came, we were charged for the Banh Hoi combo, which was $4 more. They fixed it--no problem, but it was just rather annoying that after the whole long step-by-step ordering process, that things still came out wrong. Like I said, the food is good. The Indonesian rice was amazing! I added fried tofu to the order and it was worth the extra. My friend have had Indonesian rice at other places but say this is one of the best ones. Don't try this one! Bad taste and the WORST SERVICE ever! The orange hair waitress is so rude and scared me and my friends! We sat down but no one came to us for at least 20 minutes, so we asked her when she passed by. She angrily shouted at us "can't you wait? Did you see I am busy?" I was shocked! I had never been treated like this! So I asked back "excuse me?" She said even more impatiently "don't you have ears?" Whaaaaaaaat???????????????????? Also - they charge you more without letting you know!!! When I check my bank statement I found this restaurant add at least $10 on me!
