For the most part, Vietnamese restaurants in NYC are either run by Americanized Viets or Chinese-Vietnamese (hoa ky). To no surprise, Pho 60 is among the latter, and while that usually makes me apprehensive, I'm willing to say the food is solid here after several visits. Is it the best Vietnamese in the borough? Not even close, but as a establishment with a larger menu, I certainly appreciate the variety they have. Pho 60 seems popular, especially on the weekends. During the afternoon there can be a wait and street parking is a challenge. The staff is usually so busy that they're constantly rushing folks out and turning over parties. The interior is big enough for all kinds of groups and the place is well lit, especially during the daytime. Most of the staff here is Chinese, with no knowledge of the Viet language. Once I came with a Vietnamese speaking group and ended up confusing them with our orders; we eventually had to point at the menu and/or say the dish in Mando / Canto. Super typical, it happens so often that I'm no longer phased by it. Let's start with the pho, after all . The murky broth was disappointing and the blandness made me question the soup entirely. It wasn't a total loss, I liked the freshness of the meats and how raw it was. I've never ordered banh mi from here and am unlikely to since it's not a dedicated bakery. Plus, the ones I've seen look tiny; more like rolls than actual sandwiches. Looking beyond the pho, they have a decent variety of other things including a range of noodle soups and other regional Vietnamese classics. They have canh chua, bun rieu, and even the fiery bun bo hue. The latter has blood cubes, copious amounts of cha lua, and while it might not be all that spicy, I appreciate they were able to make a halfway decent attempt at it. They did a good job with the goi cuon (summer rolls), banh xeo, and banh hoi. The real surprise was the fact they had banh beo, which came without the mini plates. Fish sauce was a little watery, but had enough flavor to keep things interesting. The prices are standard, which is to suggest this place is neither expensive nor cheap. Service is a little jittery during their busy hours but otherwise is solid overall. I feel like I haven't tried enough at Pho 60, so I'm already looking forward to another visit. read more

I have to thank my boyfriend for introducing me to this place. Initially, came here for date night and I've been coming since, as a lunchtime treat. First time trying Vietnamese food and my palate is grateful. I've tried the fried chicken wings, which were delicious and crispy. You must try it with the sauce otherwise you're just cheating yourself. The beef cubes with fried rice definitely a fav. Every dish has unique flavors that make you crave more. We were seated at the table directly in front of the cashier and where the waitress was standing and it was kinda awkward cause my mom would be having a private convo with me and the waitress would sometimes pipe into our convo..... Besides that awkwardness, the food was really good. We ordered two bowls of pho, spring rolls, and a salad with pork chop. Though the portions were a little smaller than other pho places, the taste was pretty good. We really enjoyed the salad and the dressing used. Spring rolls are a little skinnier than what you may be used to but the filling is the same as other pho places. Service was also very quick and friendly. "I know spot" is what my friend said when we were craving pho noodles. This place is definitely the spot. Flavorful broth in the pho special with a variety of ingredients from beef balls to sliced beef. It's been a while since I dined here! Being one of the few places that offer pho in the area and I was feeling pho yet again, I went here for lunch on a weekend afternoon. The place is packed, from the outdoor seating to the inside. The ladies running the show were fast to keep up, speaking Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. We each ordered a Pho 60 Special Noodle Soup ($10.50) and Summer Rolls ($5.50) to share. The Summer Rolls were nicely cut in four pieces. While I liked the neat presentation, taste wise the lettuce is better in chunkier pieces than smaller ones. The sauce was also saltier and less peanut tasting than other places. The Pho 60 Special Noodle Soups came in beautiful wide bowls, now with a ladle-like spoon, perfect for broth drinking. Their broth was not my favorite, but they do not skimp on the various beef variety! They have all the beef pieces you would ever want in pho, even the beef balls! Best of all, they played familiar Canto songs, featuring two from TVB shows! That's a plus in my book! I think that everything here is pretty standard and OK but the one thing that pops out to me is the ambience. I like the seating and spacing and how authentic it feels in there. This little Vietnamese spot is just what the Dyker/Borough Park border needed. In the past, I've ordered from a couple of other Viet take-out spots in Bay Ridge that are willing to deliver to Dyker, none of which were any good. Pho 60 is where its at though. Although on the pricier side, I will say that Pho 60 is authentic and quick. If I was writing this review based on my first experience alone, I would be giving them 2 stars. The food arrived lukewarm, strewn about in the bag haphazardly, and the portions were totally off. I ordered the Grilled Sliced Pork with Rice Vermicelli ($8.95) but the bowl consisted almost entirely of rice noodles and a few small pieces of pork. I also ordered the Pork Spring Rolls ($4.95) which were left in the fryer for too long. These were also super oily and tiny, and not worth the price. The saving grace this time was the Rainbow Ice ($3.95), which I haven't found at too many other Viet spots in Bay Ridge/Dyker. It was super yummy and I was happy to see it on the menu. My second experience was much better. I reordered the Grilled Sliced Pork with Rice Vermicelli, the Vietnamese Rice Cake ($6.95 for 8 pieces), the Vietnamese Rice Crepe ($8.95), the Tapioca Cake/Pie with Coconut Milk ($3.95), and another Rainbow Ice. I opted to skip ordering those tiny, tasteless spring rolls altogether. The Vietnamese Rice Cake was something I had never tried before, but we really quite enjoyed them. The Vietnamese Rice Crepe was awesome and the portion was huge. The vermicelli bowl was much better than the first time I ordered, and even though we were SUPER stuffed, we managed to devour the Tapioca Cake which was delicious and arrived still hot, as well as the Rainbow Ice. If I has to nitpick a little bit, I'd say I just wish that I had known the tapioca dessert came with sesame seeds on top. I'm happy I gave this place another try. I honestly was a little hesitant about trying this place at first because it's not your typical Vietnamese restaurant concept. The food is really good. I came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with a group of 3 people. There was indoor and outdoor seating during COVID-19 times. They check your temperature and collect your contact info. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls appetizer, the Pho 60 special pho (brisket, fresh eye round, tendon, tripe, beef balls), and the pork chop with crab patty over rice. The spring rolls were crunchy but the vegetables are a bit bland. The pho was okay but I felt that the broth wasn't very flavorful and more on the bland side. The pork chop was was grilled well and juicy even though they precut it. However, the rice was on the mushy side which was not very appetizing. Overall, it was an affordable meal and the portions were large. Service was fast and friendly. I had a decent experience but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Most viet places I've been to usually don't have one or the other; or like the viet shop in Toronto; made Bun Bo Hue + Bun Rieu mix but couldn't deliver that uniqueness robust flavor. Pho 60 got it just right. The tomato + crab flavor balanced each other out. Bun Bo Hue, spice pork knuckles, blood pudding, viet ham, cilantro and the broth is just amazing. The vermicelli is slightly thicker. The Bun Rieu is just as robust in flavor, with shrimp, meat patties, blood pudding and fried tofu puff. Thinner vermicelli is used in this soup and works even better. I've tried both back-2-back and added extra blood pudding for $1.95! Totally worth it! Spring rolls are decent, still prefer the traditional rice paper skins but the filling was good. Also tried the Viet Rice Cakes... not a fan of the diced fried shrimp topping but overall decent appetizer. Also got the Pho Special (For Chear Toa); husband liked it, wished for more beef. Tried the Grilled Pork Chop and Chicken over rice. The broken rice was soft and the pork & chicken both had really good flavors. Kids loved it! We would definitely return! I have been to this place once prior to COVID and I recently got take out from them and wanted to leave them a review. They definitely have lots of room with both outdoor and indoor seating. Their outdoor seating was very well lit even as it gets dark super early these days and everyone was pretty spaced apart from what I was able to see when I walked by to pick up my take out. All the staff were wearing masks when I went inside and they had my take-out order ready in about 15 mins since I called them which was the exact time they told me it would be ready. I went with the Pho 60 Special for a big hearty bowl of pho and it did not disappoint. The soup base was so yummy and tasty and went amazingly with the noodles. We also got beef cubed fried rice which potion wise was pretty large - I wished the beef cubes were slightly more tender but the flavor was pretty decent and went really well with the fried rice. The pork chop with white rice was also huge in terms of portion and the pork chops were really tasty and it was definitely what we were looking for. The last item we got were the fried spring rolls which were also really good - I think it's because I got it as take out but they were not really crispy by the time I got home but the taste was still there otherwise. Overall, the price was about $56 which I found to be fairly decent especially for the big portion sizes of the rice dishes. I will definitely be coming back in the future. read more

At first, we weren't too sure what to expect from this spot especially when we were so used to getting our Vietnamese food fix from 8th Avenue and in Queens. My family order a variety of things such as the Pho 60 Special Noodle Soup, Grilled Pork with Spring Rolls Vermicelli, Beef Cubes with Fried Rice, Vietnamese Steamed Rice Crepe, Pork Spring Rolls (so crispy, so delicious!), and Grilled Pork over Rice. Everything was really tasty and would totally order again! A bowl of pho is how we would judge a place and we're happy to say that it was great here! Get the Pho 60 Special Noodle! This is pretty much equivalent to any other pho places' Special Combination noodle. This variation here was delicious! It comes with our favorite traditional beef brisket, tendons, tripe, and the most tender beef balls. It was packed with beef flavor but at the same time, it tasted light and healthy - I am so impressed with how they managed to pull that off! I recently got takeaway from Pho 60. I called ahead and went to pick up in 15 mins. I had to wait for a little bit i.e., 5 mins but no biggie. It was my first time getting takeaway from them during covid so it was great seeing how serious they take social distancing. There was a big table that separates the customers from the workers. When paying, they passed me a container to place my credit card and when I paid, they passed it back to me in the same container. There was hand sanitizer on the table. I ordered a pho with grilled pork and pho ga i.e., chicken pho. I think they changed the broth recipe. What I liked about their old broth was that it was deep and flavorful. Almost to the point of greasy which I loved. But this time, the broth was light and clean. It has become the typical pho ga at any other Vietnamese restaurant. I understand this is a personal preference but I actually would go out of my way to eat their old pho ga. Therefore, I removed one star for the lost in uniqueness. They no longer give bean sprouts, mint and lime with pho. It usually comes with the pho with no extra charge. If the new standard is to not offer it, then I wished they let me know because I usually add them all to my pho. I'm a born and raised New Yorker, eating at Vietnamese restaurants since I was a kid. My family was in town visiting from California. We were in the area buying some fruits for my grandma & my mom spotted Pho 60 so we decided to go sit down & eat. Inside the restaurant is hella nice, clean, & bright! We ordered a whole bunch of other things on the menu because we wanted to compare Bay Area pho & pho in NY. My favorite was the chicken curry with bread on the side. The broth is super flavorful & it tastes so amazing! I believe it is better than what my dad cooks at home haha. My sister loves the pho. The broth was also hella tasty too but she says it's comparable to what we get at home, so that's not a bad thing! I also got a durian shake & it's was bomb! It had small chunky durians in there blended with ice. It wasn't too icy where it defeats the purpose of it & can barely suck the drink. It was perfect, smooth, icy enough & perfect flavoring where it was too over powered with sweetness. Along with dinner, we also got dessert! The star berry shortcake was bomb! The warmth of the shortcake & the ice cream together combined together in your mouth is so satisfying. It's like the fried bananas & ice cream together. Also not super sweet just how I like it. The location for this place is pretty random but decided to give it a try since people have posted on social media. The place itself is not that big, not a lot of tables. Compare to Vietnamese restaurants at 8th ave, this place is pricier. We got spring roll which comes with 4 rolls for about $6. The spring roll is different from other Vietnamese places but still good. My husband got the normal "#1" and it came with a lot of noodles but not much meat. I got pork chop vermicelli and the pork chop was very juicy. In general, the food isn't bad but just a bit more than other Vietnamese restaurants like two avenue down. I've been here a few times pre-covid, as well as during. Outdoor dining only, they do have heat lamps, and there's plenty of tables open. Pretty safe here, since it's a corner restaurant, there's plenty of air movement. Service is still great. You might have to duck indoors if you don't see staff running around outside to grab their attention.
