Not what it used to be....admittedly I haven't been for quite awhile until yesterday. It appears that there is new management in the last year or two, causing a turn for the worse. 1- The walling of of the side windows makes the place dark and dingy. 2- At my visit many of the more "exotic" meats were not available - just the steak like cuts. I was steered by the waiter to "#11" 3 - Finally, and worst, although the Pho tasted ok - it gave me a 12 hour digestive upset. This has never happened after my many previous visits. Came here for the first time because my friend was in town and staying in the area and we were craving Pho. The pho was good, like any other delicious pho place. The portion size of the regular was slightly smaller than I've gotten at other places recently. Not necessarily a complaint because I'm always dying of fullness after Pho, but just something I noticed. One thing I will say is that the food came out LIGHTNING FAST. LITERALLY. Ok but actually... we sat down, ordered, I went to the bathroom to pee, and when I got back, the Pho was there. I'm pretty sure it was the fasted I've ever gotten Pho. Anyways, I probably won't be back unless I happen to be in the area again but I definitely have no complaints about the place. Great pho - but please note that nothing but pho (and some desserts, which I haven't tried) is sold here. No spring rolls, summer rolls, etc. are available. The broth is some of the best I've had - anywhere - and although they got my last order wrong, I was not at all bothered because of how good it was. They offer ample accoutrements (Thai basil, bean sprouts, etc.) with each order. This place only accepts cash, which keeps prices reasonable. Hands down, the best bowl of Pho in the area. You can order small sides of the various cuts of meat that can go in the Pho. They will bring it out for you in a separate small bowl with a slightly different broth for each type of meat. This is probably as good as the Pho 75 on Hungerford Rd. but I like that one better. The pho here is delicious. I usually ask for #10 with more fatty brisket than regular brisket (gau) and fewer noodles. This is a 5 star place if you compare to every other pho place in the area, but if this was in a Vietnamese neighborhood, it would be a 3 star at best. Broth and some of the meat is good quality...the other cuts leave you wondering where the meat came from or if it was even in the bowl. The place is on the dirty side, but food comes out super fast. The best Pho in the area. I have been coming here since 1998. BUT... It is sad that this particular one on Univ. Blvd. has some of the rudest people that work there. I go to the other ones when I am in the area but refuse to go to that one because I will not continue to patronize a restaurant if they consistently show that they feel you are just a number and at times ignore you if you want another glass of water or some other common thing. The first place I had pho (1998) and it's the best pho you can get. Don't go for the atmosphere, because there isn't any. Usually a good idea to wipe the chop sticks and spoons with a few napkins before use, too. Location is a little scary, but the pho is worth the trip. The meat topping was not a lot at all--- sure, the portion was huge if you're talking about noodle and soup but I want to eat a decent serving of meat as well. Best Pho I've had around. Been a costumer for 6my or 7so years now and still can't find anything better than this Pho. I eat italmost every Sunday for lunch. My favorite is a large number one. I also love the pink yelly(not sure wat its called. Always order "pink yelly"") that they have. Its like a mix of bubble tea with coconut bits n coconut milk and jelly and juice. Its delicious. The scenery isn't as good though. You got all these long beat ip Up tables crammed into a small space. Its dark and small. Best time to come is when its not soil busy. The place looks bigger and small cleaner. Regardless of anything, I always get my order in minutes and come out satisfied and full for under $10.00. My favorite for a cold rainy day. While it is not fancy, the owners have done some renovations since some of the fans have written their reviews. With turquoise and fuchsia painted wainscoting and trim, drop shade lights fitted with compact fluorescents (not the usual long bulbs) no TV (generally ubiquitous in this neighborhood) and a red thai frame around the cash booth with tastefully arranged certificates, and a big square well lit room, the dining is much cozier than other Pho options in the area. If you are very hungry, you may notice that the tables and chairs are fairly standard sturdy 1970 and 80s leftovers, but once the steaming hot fragrant bowls of pho arrive with the abundant plate of fresh toppings, you will not notice the lighting, the room, your neighbors, or even a bad day at the office. Nice for the non-beef eaters they do have a no topping or chicken option. This place is better than Pho 301 across the street regarding the taste and quality of the food. The atmosphere at Pho 301 is way better than Pho 75. Pho 75's atmosphere is lacking. It almost appears very worn and dirty, but that is because there is a high turn over of customers/traffic at this location. The noodle soup is the only reason to come to this location. It is the best in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. There is no other like it. That is the only thing to get here. And I thought I had great Pho in my area. Aside from the Eden Center in Virginia, Pho 75, yes right here, was and is the Best Pho restaurant I have ever been to so far. Now dont get me wrong, I have been to a good amount of Pho restaurants, around 10 - 15 and none of em is as good as this place. Ambience is obviously not so great, but its not about the ambience, its about the food they give you. Very small and selective menu, Pho only with a few other selections like Vietnamese Coffee which is really good and strong. I ordered a #1, which is a combination of meats in a bowl of pho. Small or Large, mind as well get a large since its only like 1 dollar extra. Not even 5 minutes later, the hot, fresh, great smelling bowl of tasty pho comes. Usually at other Pho places, I pour in alot of Hoisin and Siracha sauce. This place? None. I repeat, none. The bowl of pho..... Unexplainable, The Best I have ever had. So good and yet its so cheap.
