Ok, so im comparing Pho 96 to Pho Lang Thang... for starters its like the Subway of Pho.. it is very "chain" feeling. For starters their spring rolls are not what you would think spring rolls are. Their spring rolls are the completely uncooked clear wrapped veggies with shrimp. Their egg rolls are what spring rolls in my opinion are thin fried rolls with the veggies and pork. Was a little frustrated when we ordered as we told them spring rolls and explained the thin fried rolls instead of explaining those were their egg tolls they just gave us the wrong ones anyway .... when they arrived i was in the restroom and when I went to the front to explain those were the wrong ones they said you said spring roll, those are spring roll. So ended up having to pay for 2 separate orders just to get the correct ones even though I explained which ones we wanted. As for the Vietnamese noodle bowl. In my opinion the broth was a little bland compared to pho lang thang but the sriracha & hoisin sauce provided on the table saved it. Another difference is the "egg roll" is served with a sweet sauce which Im used to them being served with ponzu-like sauce. All in all the good was pretty good for the price. Pho 96 strips away the cool hipster vibe of your typical noodle shop and delivers a mean authentic Vietnamese Pho grandma would be proud of. Although I appreciate the different new takes on the traditional Vietnamese Pho...nothing beats the traditional approach - a light, clear beef broth with the traditional fixings. Walking into this establishment, was a bit hesitant on what to expect on the authenticity and quality of the Vietnamese cuisine. The entrance is similar to your typical Chinese take out restaurant. A cashier with a large lighted sign of the different menu selections behind them. There is essentially 2 main options you can get, the different variations of Pho and some additional side/noodle dishes. You place your order, take a number, seat yourself, then wait for your food. Went with my go-to order at any Pho noodle stop - drip iced coffee, summer roll for appetizer and the Vietnamese pho with tendon - double tendon. For those who have not tried a pho with tendon, you have try it out - prepared correctly, tendon is the perfect pairing for a pho and is lighter than the steak or brisket. Coffee came quite quickly but was a bit disappointed that it did not come with the traditional dripping mechanism - that's the main fun with getting an iced coffee at a pho place. It was already premixed. Coffee was above average. Summer roll was below average. The outside skin was prepared well however the inside was filled primarily with shredded lettuce giving the roll a relatively bland taste. Would have liked to see more basil and green onion in the inside to give it better texture and flavor. Would not recommend this appetizer. Next came the star of the show, the beef tendon pho. First check and most important check is the broth - the broth was light and not loaded up with fat, salt, and MSG. Good flavor but not too rich. Next check, the beef tendon. Most places do not cook the tendon long enough to get a soft texture - this place nailed it - great texture and flavor. (Went a bit overboard on the double tendon, probably should have went with a single order). Noodles were prepared well and had good texture as well. The fixings were a bit small and we had to ask for more. All in all, the trip here from Cincinnati was worth it for the Pho. Cannot say the same for the other sides, but the pho is definitely up there as one of the best in the area and worth a try. read more

Glad we went, if only to check it off the list, and to see once again how high Yelp ratings match up to one's own personal experience at any given restaurant. We had spring rolls, egg rolls, shrimp stick, and a #11 pho. None of it was horrible, but nothing was "great." The pho broth seemed a bit "thick" and not piping hot; apps seemed warmed over, and the spring roll lacked basil or mint. It was a low volume late afternoon, so not crowded, and the staff seemed disengaged. Maybe I got them on a "so so" day, but IMHO there are better options (but perhaps not in the immediate geographic area, which may result once again in higher ratings). read more

I had went to this place several months ago and was equally as disappointed as I am now. Reason being? I ended up paying $15 for two spring rolls and a really big bowl of chicken pho. Don't let the big bowl fool you in the pictures, it's mostly a whole bunch of broth and noodles with a Sprinkle of whatever meat or vegetable you decided to add with it. Granted they do give you a little side plate with some other vegetables but not everyone wants to add a big slab of jalapeno slices to their pho. I wasn't a big fan of the service either. When I had asked for a to-go box for my pho, I was basically given one of those extra large styrofoam cups with a lid that will pop off with a slight squeeze. Maybe I wouldn't be as annoyed if they had offered to help pour the soup into this gigantic cup but they didn't and while trying to maneuver the soup and she the cup I ended up burning my hand and getting a whole bunch of broth everywhere on the table. I do want to add even though I'm complaining about this the staff are nice it's just that their customer service is kind of deterring. I saw other reviews that the spring rolls and their pho were pretty good but when I went they both tasted mediocre and Bland. Definitely not worth $15. I wanted to give this place another chance especially after seeing all these five star reviews but after the second experience oh, I am definitely not going to return to this establishment. read more

Stayed in a hotel down the street and wanted some hot soup in our stomach. Decided to give this pho restaurant a try and was not disappoint by it. The portion size is a little small to what they charge for it. The soup flavor is a little on the bland size but the condiments they provide more than make up for it. The waft of delicious aromas hits you as soon as you open the door. By the time I made it to the line I was already salivating. I decided to get takeout combo Pho since there didn't seem to be an open table in the place and it took about 15min to get since they were so busy. I counted while in line and they had over 60 people on a Tuesday at 2pm. That says a lot about a place. The staff was friendly and helpful in ordering. Even a couple people in line were willing to offer suggestions since they had already been there 2 or 3 times since they opened. The noodles were superb and the broth was perfectly balanced. The combo had all the meats and I was pleasantly surprise. even the soft tendon was done so well that I couldn't find a complaint. Finally came to Pho 96 after hearing all the praises from my friend, and man, I have to agree, this place is legit! You order and pay first with the cashier and they bring you your food. They have good combo deals, ~$7 for a sandwich and soda, ~$11 for pho, an appetizer, and a soda. I love that they are not stingy with the veggies that come with the pho (lots of bean sprouts!). Their pho and the broth are very authentic and don't seem to have loads of MSG; very flavorful yet not too salty. I've had very flavorful pho but was so thirsty afterwards b/c it was loaded with MSG, but not here. They are also generous with the meat they give you in your pho. If you have a big appetite, you can supersize your pho for $2.30 more. They have a good variety of bubble tea & smoothies, avocado, mango, pear, and kiwi smoothies are made with fresh fruit and not powder. Their boba/tapioca actually exceeded my expectation, not too hard or soft, it's just right, very chewy. I agree with Sarah's review that their prices aren't as cheap compared to other big cities' pho, but it's very good for Cincy. we had our first pho experience recently in Hawaii. we both had bronchitis and the spicy soup was just the ticket. so when my allergies were killing me ... thought we would try places close to home. this was about 30 minutes away. the reviews were good ... some complaints they would had preferred more meat.. so I thought it would be ideal. I dont want alot of meat. we both got the steak ... which was very thin and tender. I'd read reviews on the tendon .. I inquired hoping it was a Vietnamese word ... but no it was a tendon. might be delicious but the thought of that weirder me out. so I didnt try the tendon .. just steak pho with extra bean sprouts. This place has online ordering for covid and it is easy to us. Set-up for pick-up is poor. You wait in line behind everyone ordering because there is only one way in now. They package up extra side sauces and keep wet and dry seperate in the packaging. We pick-up while on road trips, we live 2 hours away, and it travels well. I have been searching for authentic Vietnamese food, and this is only the 2nd "Vietnamese" restaurant that I can say is authentic. The flavor of the Pho reminds me of ma'n'pop Pho shacks (the good joints) back in LA. I also ordered the Vietnamese Banh cuon (rice paper pancake), which was good but not as good as the Pho. I ordered online with pick up at 5pm. I arrived at 5.15 pm and my order was not ready because they couldn't find it...it appears they printed it and forgot about it. Mistake happen so no big deal I can wait. The problem is they were rude enough to say that it was my fault because I have ordered online at 11 am before their kitchen opens...but The thing is that their website give us the option to order at any time of the day. They did not apologize and when I asked for a commercial gesture for the wait they were rude and didn't do anything. Finally there was a mistake in my order. Amazing food, I've come here for 1/2 a year now and the smoothies are really good and the food. The ambiance is always made up of photos on the wall of vietnam and also with calm piano music. I have been dreaming of trying pho since seeing it on a travel show about Vietnam. I sometimes do business in Cincinnati, so I found this place and bookmarked it for a future visit. Well, yesterday was the day! When I walked in, I was excited to see that a large portion of the clientele were Vietnamese. This is usually a good indicator that you will be receiving an authentic dish. This is also intimidating, especially when it is a food you have never attempted to eat before! The menu was very clear and easy to read. I had plenty of time to decide on my choice, as the two young ladies that worked there, were busy serving hot pho to the customers. I decided on beef flank and meatballs. Seemed interesting. I also was excited to see they sever a large variety of bubble teas, another Asian specialty that I wanted to try. I ordered a mango flavored tea. I was a little concerned about the tapioca at the bottom, but I wanted the whole experience. I took my number and placed it on my table. Within a couple minutes, I had my bubble tea. The mango flavor was strong and it was cold. The first piece of tapioca I sucked up the straw was a little frightening. I knew they where down there and I knew that the massive straw was designed to pull them through, but it caught me off guard. It was fairly tasteless, but chewy like a gummy bear. It was a little off-putting at first, but I began to enjoy it the further I got into the bubble tea. Before the pho, I had plenty of time to explore the variety of condiments and utensils on the table. There is also a large, laminated card that explains how to eat pho. I did not get to read through the entire card before the ladies brought out my soup. It was a massive bowl! I saw on the menu that there were three sizes: child size, regular, and large bowl. I ordered a regular size. Either they gave me a large by mistake or the large is the size of a punch bowl, I am not sure which. Regardless, it was intimidatingly big for a lunch! With it came a small plate with mong bean sprouts, Thia basil, saw herb, sliced jalapeño, and a wedge of lime. The point of pho is to create your own taste. The broth this deep and rich, but somewhat bland. The condiments and veggies are there for you to make it what you want it to be. I mixed in the veggies, poured in some fish sauce and a large spoonful of the hot chili paste. I like heat, so my goal was to make it spicy. The chili paste is potent and a little goes a long way. Pho is a two-handed experience. Chopsticks in your right, a broth spoon in you left. This was a bit awkward. Never do I eat with my left hand, so that was new and unfamiliar. My chopstick skills are decent, but Pho96 has reusable chopsticks, not the cheapo bamboo sticks you normally see in Asian joints. These things were long and heavy! Very tricky to use at first, but I finally got the hang of it. The soup was delicious and the experience was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly and the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. This place flat rocks it! Been here a few times, and every time the pho is delicious and the service is quick, efficient and friendly. I get the chicken pho and it's outstanding. The chicken is very tender and flavorful. The pieces of meat are perfectly sized for pairing up with the noodles. The fresh herbs and other accompaniments are perfect. I can pick up hints of lots of the beautiful spices used to make the broth, but they are subtle which makes for a lovely broth. We've adventured away from the pho by trying the crepes and found them a worthy try. Crispy and delicate and a little oily (in a good way). Served with sprouts inside & accompanied by very fresh and beautifully arranged vegetables. There is also tasty dessert there in little cups on the ordering counter that looks like beans in jello. That stuff is GREAT! The one we tried was coconut flavored & we couldn't stop eating it! The texture and flavors were just dynamite. The Thai iced tea (with boba) is wonderful.
