I got the noodles and the lemon grass really did pop. I thought it was very tasty. I actually ate the entire dish...no leftovers here with how good it tasted. I've gotten takeout pho from here a few times now and really like it. It's not the best I've ever had but worth it when it's the closest option nearby. I like how they package everything for takeout: noodles and meat together, broth and toppings separate. We tried the banh mi and summer rolls last time and those were a bit disappointing. Overall good experience. We ordered takeout, and the ordering experience was very easy. Everything was well packaged and ready exactly when it was expected to be. In terms of the food, everything was good but also somewhat underwhelming. That might or might not be a result of our mostly vegetarian order and the restaurant's focus on some of the meat-based items on the menu. Also: parking was fairly easy, despite the East Liberty location. In terms of the food, our order was good but not great. The shrimp fresh rolls were good, but the peanut sauce seemed to be lacking. The tofu banh mi was decent and included excellent bread, but it could have use more vegetable content: more cilantro, more jalapeños, more cucumber, more pickled carrot and daikon. I also added some sriracha to add a little more flavor. The vegetarian pho was good, with plenty of fresh vegetables on the side, but the broth could have used more flavor. They served the pho vegetables with a packet of sriracha and a packet of soy sauce, plus some fresh limes. That might suggest that we were responsible for seasoning things on our own, but I would have liked to see more flavor in the baseline broth. The salt and pepper tofu bowl was good, and possibly one of my favorite items. They also had an option to add extra vegetables to most dishes, but the vegetables were somewhat uninspired: carrot, broccoli, and mushroom. I realize that's just an add-in, but it didn't seem worth including as an option. All told, this was a nice destination, with nicely prepared Vietnamese food, but it wasn't a particularly inspired experience. Needed a warm pick me up and decided to on pho! Pho and Roll was a 20 minute walk from me and I was drawn to their pho selection and Summer Rolls. When I first checked this place out online, I was expecting a kind of fast-food atmosphere, but despite the storefront appearance, the ambiance is really beautiful and relaxing. The staff was very helpful and patient in explaining dishes and helping everyone in our large party order something they'd like - we're a mix of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. This place replaced Two Sisters after it closed (I loved Two Sisters!), and when I went to the new location the quality and vibe felt pretty similar. I got the pork vermicelli bowl, which comes with a crispy spring roll. The ingredients felt very fresh, and the portions were really generous. The meat was also cooked and seasoned really well -- super tender and savory. I went when it first opened up so there wasn't too terrible of a wait, but don't know how busy it is now. I'm definitely a sucker for a BYOB Vietnamese kitchen, and the new Pho & Roll in East Liberty does not disappoint! While the menu is relatively small, everything on it is delicious. The chef doesn't shy away from the fishy, sour, umami flavors of traditional Asian food that some American restaurants tend to do, and I love it! Serving a variety of Vietnamese soups & noodle bowls as well as fresh appetizers that are a good sharing size, I would definitely recommend stopping in! I personally recommend the spring rolls appetizer to share, and getting one of their soups (pho or bun bo hue) or a vermicelli noodle bowl. And don't forget to top off your meal with a Thai iced tea! We were nearby after a workout and wanted something warm and hearty on a winter day. Pho seemed like a good choice. I agree with other reviews that the broth here is not as potent, kind of watered down tasting. And the price of $16 for a bowl of pho seems a little on the high side, but I've seen crazier things in the post pandemic inflation world. Still, it was tasty and filling, so I'm satisfied. While the quality and amount of the ingredients were good, they skimped a little on the noodles and the fish sauce lacked a tangy sweetness I am used to when I have restaurant Vietnamese. New owners, fresh taste. Highly recommended. I was craving dry noodles and pork chops and couldn't decide, so I ordered both. Pictured is the tofu vermicelli bowl (no bean sprouts). Amazing. Tofu was hot, juicy, and crispy (until I soaked it in the sauce). It's actually quite flavorful on its own with out the sauce, but definitely better with. Don't mix it all in at once or you won't have anything to dip your spring rolls in. The carrots and radish were nicely pickled and you could tell the lettuce was fresh, washed, and chilled. Perfect! The pork chop rice over rice was tasty too. Sauce was similar but not the same. A little lighter, less salty. Paired well with the rice. I enjoyed the fresh cut cucumbers. Two big pieces of pork chop makes it a decent size meal all on its own. I wish it was a little more chard, but that's probably a personal preference. We also had the rare beef and brisket pho. It's nice that they combined the two meats. If I remember correctly, the previous owners had only the rare beef and I prefer the brisket. I love how it's just a tiny bit fatty, still thinly sliced and just melts in your mouth. Decent sized portion of noodles made this a good dish to share. The broth is definitely more flavorful than the previous owners. Ambiance hasn't changed much. A lot of the decore is the same although they did add some cute little woven baskets hanging from the ceiling lights. Service was good. Looked like there was one waitress doing everything and serving 8 tables, but a little later another lady joined her. Both were very quick, and politely checked on us. As I was walking out I noticed that they had a chalkboard wall with their special, Bun Bo Hue. Was sad I didn't notice it before I ordered but definitely a good reason to come back and try it. Hello fellow Yelpers! Points for being woman owned and points for taking over the two sisters Vietnamese restaurant legacy. The staff are nice but we will say that they are very understaffed. Unfortunately they got our order wrong twice and had to make corrections twice. To their credit they ended up making the dishes from scratch again, but this leads me to our next issue which was just the slowness because of how understaffed they were. We went in on a Saturday and nearly every table was filled, but it took about over an hour from getting into our seats and ordering to getting our food. They only had two servers and they were visibly struggling. Tough times during the service hiring downturn we are having in this post pandemic period. The parking is paid in this part of town so time is actually money here. If we come back we would just have a different mindset on how long it will take. They previously have been faster while they were two sisters, but they may not be anymore as a warning for everyone (perhaps they will be better in less busy times or with more time working under their belt). All to say, even with the servers being nice, the time it took for service and food to come out was slow and riddled with mistakes and left you feeling awful for the staff but also annoyed. The food is ok, we thought the flavors were sweeter than previously when it was two sisters and they definitely changed the formula on some dishes like the chicken wings. It was all not bad, but also not great hence the middling review here. The store itself is very clean and modern and has all the makings of the previous store (nearly identical), so if you liked the decor before and ambiance before, you'll like it now. We can't really recommend it, we'd say give it a chance and see if you like it, for us we may try again but our experience this day wasn't great. To be honest it would be more of a 2.5 but since we can't do half stars we'll bump it up. The pricing wasn't necessarily worth it for us as some pho dishes can go up to $19 if you add meatballs and their tipping options actually go all the way up to 22%. We know inflation is hurting us all but damn...over one fifth of the bill becoming tip...crazy times we are in. Thank you so much for reading, stay safe and well out there. This was my first time trying Vietnamese food, and I must say it was quite good! The items I tried came in quite good portions, okay prices, and amazing levels of freshness! I tried the vermicelli bowl with Vietnamese sausage, a shrimp egg roll, and sugarcane shrimp, as well as the Thai iced tea. The portion for the bowl was awesome! It had a great amount of white thin noodles, some sprouts, carrots, and other vegetables. It also came with a tasty and somewhat sweet sauce. I really loved the carrots, which were super vibrant and also a bit sweet. A decent amount of peanuts on the side, too. The meat was amazing! I've never had sausage quite like this, but I must say it's delicious. Almost a bit more like Canadian bacon than sausage but really good nonetheless. Somewhat sweet once again, but not excessively so. Great texture. The two shrimp items were really good, too. The egg roll, there wasn't much shrimp in there, but it was crispy and still tasty. Filled with a bit of vegetables, glass noodles, and the like. The sugarcane shrimp were really good. The texture was very soft on the inside, a bit of crisp on the outside. Juicy and flavorful. It almost didn't feel like they were made of shrimp, though. And, it wasn't that sweet, but it was just really good. Finally, the Thai iced tea was also very good. It was well balanced, although once again on the sweeter side. The portion was fine for the price. Simple, but well made. All in all, I would recommend this place. It's a great introduction to Vietnamese food. Although I'm not too familiar with this cuisine, I can say that the food was tasty and fresh. Our favorite dish was by far the fresh rolls. The rice paper was chewy and had the perfect amount of vegetables, herbs, and tofu. The sauce was thinner than some other sauces I've had, but it still had a great peanut taste. My partner got the Vermicelli Bowl with chicken and enjoyed it! The portion sizes here are pretty good! Perfect place for a Sunday Brunch! I started with Vietnamese coffee which was very well balanced! For mains I ordered Vermicelli Bowl with Tofu and Pho. Everything was fresh and delicious. It was also very well presented. The pho was served with Jalapeños, lemon and sprouts. The quantity is amazing -enough for two meals. The staff was kind and welcoming. Fantastic Vietnamese in East Liberty - hurrah!! As the chill set in recently, I had to have pho and opted for this highly-rated small business. What a great find on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. The interior is cheerful, relaxing, and the staff is attentive but not overly so. I started with fresh summer rolls - choosing shrimp among the many other options for a filling. The peanut dipping sauce was a bit too cold for my liking - lessening the taste of the peanuts - but still, rolls were excellent - packed with fresh fragrant herbs. My pot of jasmine tea was just perfect after steeping for a bit (they don't have it brewed - you get hot water in a pot with a tea bag). My main was chicken pho (totally would've gone beef as it's usually always more flavorful - but I'm trying to cut back red meat! Sigh), and it was surprisingly flavorful! The chicken was moist and shredded perfectly, so I picked up chicken with practically every bite! The fresh basil looked & tasted great, the sprouts nice & crunchy.
