Coming from NY, I'm embarrassed to even try to compare the quality of our pho to SD. This was definitely better than anything we have here, and it was just a casual spot we found on Yelp! Came for some piping hot soup to recover after a bachelorette weekend, and pho bo hit the spot. I ordered the #1, and portions and toppings were both super generous. That first sip of soup revived my soul - it was such a clean broth but deeply flavorful. I always wondered why they never provide onions w/ vinegar in NY, but I loved the ones that they gave here. The only thing I'll note is that it's an open doored restaurant for all the vibes, but with that, comes flies as well. The flies were a bit of a nuisance, but I guess that's the tradeoff here. read more

Came here on a weekday for some lunch noms and it did not disappoint. I got the grilled pork with egg roll over vermicelli and a thai smoothie boba. The pork was flavorful and the eggrolls had a good amount of meat filling. The portion is huge, good to share for 2 people if you wanted. They normally dont blend their thai tea but the guy was kind enough to do it and he was nervous it wouldnt taste right. It tasted great and the boba had a good chewiness to it as well. I also tried my friend's grilled pork banh mi and it was good. The sandwich is a big portion. Bread had the perfect crust and not too hard and not too chewy. Service was great. They have a good amount of seating. For parking, there is the northgate market across the street but im not sure if they watch the parking lot of if people get towed for parking there and not going to the market. But the veggie pho with soft tofu was really bad. The broth was neither a veggie or chicken broth. It tasted flat/empty with a sour tang, maybe it was the water from the tofu? It had very little portion of noodles. - I ate the bean sprouts, most of the carrots and a little bit of the broccoli, the noodles, and soft tofu - B/c the broth was so off putting, I could not eat the zucchini - I usually finish my pho but bc of the broth, the bowl was nearly still full - It was missing sliced onions, cilantro and green onions that are normally served at other Pho places. Not the best dinner in San Diego. Maybe I ordered wrong? Maybe I should have asked for the veggies with meat broth? Sad solo dinner for me. read more

Honestly, the best Vietnamese porkchop rice (Com Suon Nuong) in SD (but with a higher price tag). Pho Bo is in a trendier area than some of SD's class Viet restaurants and the prices are a bit higher, but the rice dishes are consistently delicious. We got the com suon nuong and the char and marinade are excellent every time. We also got the fried chicken leg over fried rice and it was delicious as well! The pho is pretty solid but doesn't beat Pho Hoa for me. However Pho Hoa ONLY serves pho so if you're hoping for a variety of dishes (including rice dishes), Pho Bo is my pick. read more

Have been craving pho for a while now so decided to give Pho Bo a try. Gotta say, their food is solid. Started with their Cha Gio (egg rolls) which came with lettuce, herbs and of course nuac cham for dipping. Wrap a roll in lettuce and herbs and get to dunking. Crispy, savory, sweet all the things really, very well done. For pho I went with Dac Biet that was loaded with all the goods. Meatballs, rare steak, tendon, and fatty brisket were all so tender and that broth, so fragrant and balanced. Plus ample amount of rice noodles. I was in slurpy heaven! I did take out and everything was packaged perfectly. Fortunately Pho Bo is close to where I live so my order arrived piping hot. Good job! After dropping our luggage off since it was too early to check-in, I was thrilled that Gavin wanted Asian. The Uber ride was less than 8 minutes. We were the first to walk in. They open at 9. We picked a table right by the outlet so we can charge our phones. We ordered their P1 (pho dac biet) and Gavin ordered their C14 (BBQ pork fried rice). Service was fast and friendly. My daughter wanted pho and this was close by to Coronado. The pho here was amazing! The broth was nice and beefy, the depth that only comes from plenty of bones and meat stewing instead of the instant seasoning paste so many restaurants use in large quantities. I got pho dac biet and you can tell each cut of meat was carefully tended to make sure it was the right texture- the ve don ("crunchy flank") actually had a crisp bite that is so hard to get at restaurants! Very good food. The pho broth was very rich. I would say the normal size would be too small for normal appetites but they do offer a larger size for $2 more. Got the crispy noodles with beef and veggies, 2 phos, and 2 banh Mis. It was not air conditioned but they left the doors open so gave an outdoor seating vibe. Even the bathrooms had nice decor and were clean, which says a lot for a pho establishment. We had egg roll appetizers that were nice and hot, and crunchy. Could have used a little more salt or seasoning in the meat, but not bad. We specifically went here for my pescatarian friend, who asked me to make sure there was vegetarian pho. There was, but after the meal, she said the noodles were a bit overdone. I had the broken rice with grilled shrimp and pork. Mine was delicious, I'd order it again and again. Everything was seasoned well, pork was juicy and caramelized, and the 5 shrimp were a good size, with good bite... Not the dinky kind that I'm used to seeing, and not rubbery. Pho Bo offers a trendy atmosphere in what appears to be a gentrifying Barrio Logan. I had the shank rib pho (P2), and it had to be one of the tastiest broths I've ever had. I ordered delivery from Pho Bo to my hotel. I tried the grilled pork summer roll, and the rare and flank pho. Overall, food was good. Though I do have a few suggestions. 1. The summer roll tasted great. My only complaint was that I wish there was peanut instead fish sauce. The flavor of the roll would have gone a lot better with peanut sauce. The picture online also showed peanut sauce, otherwise I would have asked for it. 2. The pho has good flavor, and the meat is plentiful. However, the rare steak in the pho was raw. This was usually fine at the restaurant because the boiling hot broth will cook the meat to a perfect medium rare. But for someone who ordered delivery from a hotel, I do not have the means to reheat the broth. And the broth was just warm to the touch, definitely not hot enough to cook the meat. I suggest that for delivery orders, maybe briefly cook the raw meat in broth, for just 5 seconds, before packaging it. My entire hotel saw me carrying a bowl and soup tub going floor to floor looking for a microwave... Overall, I like the food. And want to eat there in person sometime so I can get the best experience with the food. read more

They were decent sizes, they were fresh, and they were delicious, and the Peanut dipping sauce was perfect. I always like to add Sriracha to my Peanut dipping sauce for my Spring rolls and it's just so good. Their Combination fried rice was also good, they weren't soggy or overcooked. I love Vermicelli Rice Noodles, everything in my Bowl was flavorful, the grilled Pork and egg roll were delicious with all those noodles, sauces, and veggies. The main reason I came back here 3 more times already was because of their PHO BO (RIBS & SHANK) SOUP! This is so good, I really like the BROTH here on the RIBS & SHANK, the Rib's size was good, but I wish that they could make it so that the Meat of the Ribs is easy to pull apart from the bone. But the meat is still tender when it's already separated from the Bone, it's still soft to eat, it's not hard or chewy at all and the meat is also very tasty. All in all, I love their RIBS soup here.
