This place is awesome! The staff is friendly and their food is delicious. I've tried many things on their menu but the tops for me is the pho with beef flank, the BBQ beef with rice, and their egg rolls. All their food is good these are just the top ones in my book. Very clean and food comes out super quick. I've been to tons of pho places around San Diego but this is my regular spot. Prices are cheap and reasonable also. I never leave disappointed. And if you like coffee and want something strong and delicious get the iced Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk. This is by far my favorite pho place in east county. Their broth is so flavorful and they provide just the right amount of meat and additions for their soups too. The rice paper rolls are super delicious as well. The service is about what you would expect from a pho place--it's not like American cuisine where they're trying to win the biggest tip. Thanksgiving Day 2012...everyone's been sick here at the old germy homestead and someone groaned "Pho would be good!" And off we went...thank you fellow yelpers for the great reviews on this joint. When we walked in there was only one couple there but when we left, there were several tables filled and that's a good thing. The menu is an experience in itself, it's a book really but for people who have never had Pho, it is a mini education on what to order and how to order. Pho is soup, Bun is all the soup ingredients over DRY noodles, no broth and then there are the rice dishes. They have a small kid's menu in the middle of the first page with all meals priced at $5. This includes the main course, a small bowl of soup and a soda. Oddly enough the only downer to the meal was the kid's soup which looked oddly yellow. I tasted it before I gave it to my grandson and it tasted like pure oil. I think that they may have scooped it right off the top of the pot but once I said something, they quickly took it away. We also ordered an order of fried eggrolls and again, they were some of the finest eggrolls I've had in a long time.Lots of fresh lettuce to wrap them in, two big bowls of dipping fish sauce and fresh herbs to accompany them. I have eaten Pho all over San Diego, from City Heights to Chula Vista and now Santee, and this is definitely up the with some of the best broth I've ever had the pleasure to eat.....now let me share with you what the BEST part of the experience was. *The customer service, plain and service.* Greeted by a friendly man when we walked in, wonderful and pleasant service from beginning to end and with two hungry kids, the wait for food was unbelievably short....WOW!!! Nothing like some fast, good, hot, steamy Pho! Ooooh yeah!! I'm not a super adventurous eater so I always get my fav item P18 with sliced rare steak, can't go wrong there. This place is always on point with their service and food, I have never been dissapointed.... Good stuff, man! I love Vietnamese food because it's delicious and usually very inexpensive. This place fits right into that category. The food was great, the service was fast and friendly, and the boba was amazing. And they don't skimp on the boba either. I was full from boba before our meals came. But that just meant that I got to bring lots home and have leftovers the next day! One of the spoons they brought to our table had lipstick on it from a previous guest, but whatever. I mean, I didn't use it but shit happens. We enjoyed our meals and it was comfortable and clean inside. There was also lots of takeout activity which leads me to believe many Santee locals eat here regularly. Consistent humble hospitality with great food for reasonable prices that even my kids love...it's a keeper! My daughter loves to create and mix her little master chef ideas with soup. I'm not very adventurous so I always eat the well-done steak but my husband eats the seafood with fish balls, shrimp, and imitation crab meat. We also ordered the egg rolls and wrapped with lettuce and mint. My suggestion is to order the soup as created by the Vietnamese people. It's really good. Broth was great. Initial appearance was good and service was fast. It's close which I was so excited about but it doesn't matter if they don't deliver on taste. Noodles basically broke into mush. Not enough meat. Rare steak looked really really weird not nearly the quality I'm used to. Like pink play doh it didn't even look like meat. I wanted to try something different. This place had great reviews and is close to my new location. I have went twice, and took my Mom once. The food was great, the flavor's interesting and new to me. The people were great, we had a lot of fun trying unfamiliar foods. And the servers were so friendly and very attentive. We all laughed a lot , got very full, and had plenty to take home. This used to be one of our go-to restaurants in Santee. We were Pho Ca Dao's regular costumers since the beginning of their business, before Takka Sushi the next door was even open. HOWEVER, they must have changed the management. Despite the menu is different now, the service was disappointing. I was just there a few days ago ordering food for to-go. While I was waiting, there were 2-3 parties waiting to be seated for a while, but there WERE tables available. I felt sorry for them. Then I started feeling sorry for myself... I waited for 55 min before I got my orders. When the waitress handed me the food, she gave me a COLD "sorry," and her head turned away as she got better things to do. I could not believe how this was handled. THEN, when I got home, I realized they did not make my order right!!! Also their shredded pork skin in the clear bag smelled sour the next day. I'm hoping they care about their costumers enough to make some improvements in their service and food ingredients. The app is not letting me do zero star but, anyways, I suggest you don't go here if you're impatient and is currently in a bad mood. I'm usually a patient person, but the fact that LITERALLY five people got their food first when I ordered first is just triggering. Also, as my companions and I ordered, one of them had their cards declined and they were so rude to laugh so loud. Service alone was a five star experience, then they brought out the food. We had egg rolls, pork rolls and 4 different types of pho at our table within 10 minutes of ordering. This business is expanding all over. This pho place is small. I ordered pho dac biet, the biggest pho bowl. It has all the basics right as you would expect. The problem is the meat. The meat in my bowl was mostly fat. There weren't that much meat, just fat. Also, they didn't provide enough greens. It was just a tiny portion of it. The table didn't have a napkin dispenser. One napkin came with the bowl. One. I used that to clean the utensils of course. There was no service help either. So I was stuck in a uncomfortable setting. Overall, a subpar pho business. Simple the best pho restaurant in all east San Diego, I have been all pho restaurants in my area and if you want good food fresh and good service this is your place, they cook fast and derived to your table in only a few minutes. I made this pho restaurant my favorite and go like 3-4 times a week for almost 2 years. I have tried others but this is the best no questions ask. Pho Ca Dao has their stuff together; with prompt, and friendly service. The hostess Joyce, was so friendly and professional! The broth is delicious, with a perfect ratio of oiliness, giving it great mouthfeel. The location they are in has been, well challenging for other businesses, and forcing them to close doors. I've seen at least four businesses call it quits in the last five years! I have talked with the managers before and they like to hire Vietnamese students who do not speak much English to help them learn English and how to work a job. Which I think it great. Usually our go to spot. But service lately has been lacking. Language was definitely a barrier on our most recent visit. Lots of miscommunication. The waiter didn't understand a special request and had initially told us they were able to accommodate. The kitchen staff comes out with the completely wrong order and when we tried to explain that the waiter told us is was available he rudely told us the waiter didn't speak English. So he goes in the kitchen thinking he understood our order. Again brings it out incorrectly. We tell him and he again rudely tells us to talk to the guy that doesn't understand English. He basically throws his hands in the air and storms back into the kitchen. RUDE... they need to keep him in the kitchen if he doesn't know how to treat customers. read more

GREAT Pho Restaurant! Been there twice in a week. It is cheap, filling, and really delicious. I went there with my girlfriend last week, we got two Phos, spring rolls, and teas. 17 bucks is all! The only thing that makes it 4/5 is that none of the employees speak almost any English. It is very VERY difficult to communicate with them. They struggle with the most basic of words and questions. When I asked for iced tea, they brought me warm jasmine tea and didn't understand me when I said I wanted normal iced tea. So I just stuck with the Jasmine. It was good and only 75 cents. TL;DR Great restaurant, great food, quick service, cheap, but nearly impossible to communicate with the employees. GO! It is GREAT! read more

Really really really good pho. This is definitely going to be my new go to spot. It's really close to my house and it's so delicious and really inexpensive. Really happy I found this place. I ordered the rare beef pho. So good and I love how their jalapeños are super spicy if you want to add them that is. The meat was tender and very well cooked. The broth was delicious and so are the noodles. Everything just seemed like it was made with a lot of care. I'll definitely be coming back here. Came to my table and did not ask "what can I get you" and just stood there expecting us to acknowledge him first. Asked to split the bill, and he says okay, and stares at me because there was more cash than the total bill. He then goes to the cashier, says a rude remark to cashier about splitting the bill and stares at me while waiting for change. Turns out he didn't split the bill, and looks over my shoulder as I split the change accordingly and he says it's $11 change each when we ordered two different price items. Excuse you. Pho: noodles undercooked, diluted broth, and my brisket was sour? Garnish plate (bean sprouts, basil, lemon) was old, dehydrated, and wilted. My friends rare steak on the side came out frozen, which effects the pho broth temperature when cooking. Overall, never returning here, the service and quality is significantly different from original Pho Ca Dao, and do not recommend. read more

For real though, I may not have tons of experience but I am a foody and love trying new food and new places and new countries. PROS: Although busy, I was seated within 10 minutes and got my food within 10 or 15 minutes. Service was friendly. Food was decent. I had charbroiled pork roll and the chicken Pho bowl. CONS: No mint. No cilantro. Could have been given more veggies. *You CAN ask for more or less of noodles, meat, or veggies though*. Found out too late. They also could have put a little more meat in there too. That being said, it seems others have had much more bad experiences than I did. This is a totally white boy perspective, as I have absolutely no frame of reference when it comes to Vietnamese food, but I think this place is tits. First off, you can see in this restaurant the cultural shift that has occurred in Mira Mesa over the last 15 or 20 years. The restaurant was clearly a Baker's Square, or a Coco's, or something along those lines. The decor does not look like it has changed....ever. I dig it, personally. As for the food, I have gotten the same thing each of the times that I have gone. Egg rolls and pho (with everything). I have not been disappointed. The egg rolls are hot, crispy (not greasy) and I love wrapping the lettuce leaf around and dipping the whole thing into the fish sauce. As for the pho, the broth is flavorful, not too fatty, and the cuts of meat have all been good. The fresh veggies to put in the pho have all looked and tasted really fresh and clean. I nit-pick because I gotta. I have ordered my meal to take home the last couple times. The pho broth is put in one container, and the noodles are in a separate container, so that you can mix the two together yourself when you get home. The noodles the last two times were really badly clumped together, and even with the broth added, did not separate. I think the clumpy noodles dilemma is due to the fact that they sit in a take home container by themselves, without the broth, and that they continue to steam and meld together, not that they are overcooked.
