With Eggs / Bánh Cuốn Nhân Trứng
    Eugene C.

Came here for a breakfast cause I heard the banh cuon was good and it definitely did not disappoint. When I initially came here I had never tried chao either so I decided to try that as well. The chao was good; every individual item was cooked well and had a lot of flavor. The banh mi included with the dish helps soak up the sauce and turns it into a customizable sandwich with whatever topping from the chap you want. As for the banh cuon, every item included in the plate also tasted great. Only slight nitpick I would have is the fish sauce which I felt was somewhat watered down but it's not a dealbreaker. Lastly, I also tried the egg coffee. It was fairly priced and flavor wise it was solid, pretty much what you'd expect out of a Vietnamese coffee. If I was craving either chao or banh cuon again, I would definitely come by again!

Thien Huong is an absolute gem in Mira Mesa and a must-visit for Vietnamese breakfast and bánh cuốn. We ordered the Bánh Mì Chảo (Chao 1) -- a sizzling cast iron skillet loaded with eggs, beef tenderloin, meatball, and hotdog -- and it did not disappoint. The eggs were cooked perfectly with runny yolks, the beef was tender and flavorful, and everything came together in this rich, savory sauce topped with fresh cilantro. It arrived piping hot and stayed that way. We also got the bánh cuốn plate -- steamed rice rolls filled with egg and ground pork, topped with crispy fried shallots, served alongside chả lụa (Vietnamese pork loaf), bean sprouts, and fried rolls. Light, delicate, and incredibly fresh. To wash it all down: iced Vietnamese coffee. Strong, smooth, and perfectly sweetened. Exactly what you want. The food is authentic, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. One heads up -- this place fills up fast during lunch hour, so come early or expect a wait. Thien Huong has been around since 1982 for good reason -- this place is the real deal.

If you're looking for bánh cuốn in San Diego, Thien Huong in Mira Mesa is definitely worth a try. They specialize in bánh cuốn (steamed rice rolls with meat fillings) and other Vietnamese street food, which is hard to find around here--so it's nice to have a spot like this locally. It's a small, no-frills place, but the cashier is super sweet and friendly. The cooks are older, and it honestly feels like your parents are in the back making your food lol. Everything is made to order, so it comes out fresh every time. They do close pretty early (around 5pm), so plan ahead. It's also a great spot for seniors since the food is light, easy to chew, and easy to digest. Simple, homey, and comforting--definitely worth checking out if you're craving bánh cuốn.

I was craving some Viet food and the pictures and review on Yelp reeled me in (and did not disappoint). You order and pay first, then they'll give you number, and you choose whichever table you want, then they'll bring the food out to you. Service was fine. I ordered the #1 and it was yummy! The fish sauce was great too. It is a lot for one person to finish, so I asked for a ToGo box and finished the rest at home too. I would come back here. Large parking lot connected to other restaurants.

I searched on YELP for Bahn Cuon (Vietnamese rice noodle rolls) in Mira Mesa and Thien Huong appeared. They have protein options of shrimp, pork or no filling. I've never tried the rice noodle roll with eggs before so I got the special combo... SPECIAL COMBO #2: 10/10 Rice Noodle Rolls with shrimp and egg. The one with the egg comes with pork. I usually don't eat pork but, I really enjoyed the one with the eggs and pork inside. My hubby usually doesn't eat a lot of shrimp but he really enjoyed the one with the shrimp inside... SERVICE: A Excellent and friendly service. It's mostly self service. You can order at the cashier and then you are given a number. Then, the food will arrive at your table... AMBIANCE: It reminded me of Chick-fil-A. So it's kind of like the Asian Chick-fil-A with a limited menu items that are really good. They specialize in Bahn Cuon so it's like In-&-Out Burger as well where all you need to be good at is one thing to be a successful business! ROCK ON THIEN HUONG!!!!

Best bang for your buck for an amazing banh cuon. Restaurant is pretty much cafeteria-style -- you order up front and they'll assign you a number, which you'll bring to your table. They'll locate you from that assigned number and bring the food to you. The Special 1 had a great mix of textures -- delicate and springy rolls, tender and fresh pieces of cha lua, cha chien, fried tofu, and ground meat filling, some crispy bits, and fresh herbs on top. It was super flavorful but still light, especially with all the herbs balancing everything out. The Special 2 felt a little heartier since it had egg, with richer flavors and a more savory, satisfying bite overall. The nuoc mam here is also crack LOL The banh mi chao (#4) was served sizzling and super aromatic. The meat + sardines were juicy and flavorful with that slightly caramelized edge from the hot plate, and everything came together really well with the sauce and cream cheese. Service was friendly and pretty quick, even though it got a bit busy while we were there. Nothing fancy, just solid, satisfying Vietnamese food that hits the spot. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm here. Wish they had a banh cuon spot like this in New York LOL

I had never tried Vietnamese breakfast before, so I was excited to check this place out after seeing the great reviews and it did not disappoint. We ordered the Special Dish with ground pork and fried shallot rice rolls, bean sprouts, cilantro, pork meatloaf, and fish sauce. The rice rolls were soft and delicate, and the fried shallots added a nice savory crunch. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, especially with the fish sauce tying it all together. We also had the Banh Mi Chao #1 with meatballs, beef, egg, and hotdog. It was hearty, rich, and super satisfying. For drinks, we got the iced coconut coffee and Vietnamese coffee, both were delicious. The coconut coffee was creamy and refreshing, while the Vietnamese coffee was strong and bold. Service was great! Friendly staff checked on us and kept the place clean. Parking was easy for us too. Great spot if you want to try an authentic Vietnamese breakfast!

This cozy Vietnamese restaurant off the Mira Mesa Blvd is definitely worth stopping by if you are craving a rice roll plate, or even cà phê sữa đá! The workers here are very kind & your order comes out fairly quick. We will definitely be coming back for lunch! * Special #2 - 8.7/10 (the portion was HUGE, & very much worth it. this dish had rolled egg & pork together, & rolled ground shrimp. the egg & pork is made for a delicious combination, but i do wish the layer off egg was slightly thicker. the flavor of the ground shrimp was yummy, but i do wish the chunks were slightly larger for more chew. the rice roll itself was fresh, but thinner than i liked. there was a perfect amount of meatloaf & tofu, & the nước mắm had the right amount of pungentcy. there was the perfect amount of bean sprouts & cucumbers for balance. overall, a solid plate if you are craving rice rolls! ~tine) * Special #1 - 8.6/10 (the portion size was way bigger than expected. the filling of the ground pork with wood-ear mushroom was quite flavorful. the side meatloafs were delicious. the vegetables were fresh & crispy. the nước mắm was perfectly sweet & dank. i wish the consistency of the rice roll had more bounce to it, as it disintegrated too fast. ~jerm) * Egg Coffee - 9/10 (the coffee itself was the perfect strength & had the classic Vietnamese flare. the egg foam was rich & mixed perfectly with the coffee, adding a sweet & salty creaminess. this coffee definitely rivals banh mi shops)

This is my favorite place in Mira Mesa!! I am so happy that Jason's Pizza House pivoted to Thien Huong. It is so much better and way more successful. Dining in is the best experience but takeout is great too. It gets crowded on the weekends so go early (before 10am) if you want to get a table without waiting. We love getting both a Chao and banh cuon to split. Favorites are Chao 1 because it has the beef and no cream cheese. The sauce is so flavorful and the meatball, onions, hot dog, eggs, and beef are all so delicious. For the banh cuon, we like the special which has the ground pork and crispy onions. It is so flavorful and refreshing. Their drinks are also all really good but pricey in my opinion. Feel like the drinks should go back down to about $5 versus the current $6-8. Steep. Parking is ok in the mornings in the lot.

We love this spot for authentic Vietnamese breakfast in Mira Mesa. No frills, quick service, reasonable prices, tasty food.

They have a twist to their flavor of bahn cuon. Its a little sweeter than what I'm use too. The portions are very generous, it can definitely feed 2 people. I ordered the 1st special rice rolls with a passion fruit green tea. Parking was easy but I can see where it will get backed with Tasty Pot right next door. My bahn cuon craving was satisfied.

First time trying this banh cuon spot on a Saturday afternoon, and there was a line out the door (so we know it must be good) The wait time was quick, and we ordered at the front before sitting at our table. I really enjoyed my avocado smoothie, because I could clearly taste the condensed milk used in it. My boyfriend also liked how the Vietnamese milk coffee wasn't too strong or left a bitter aftertaste. Special 1 - I loved the variety of fish sausage and pork sausage. There was banh cuon (filled with ground pork) and banh uot, my favorite combo! Special 2 - The banh cuon (filled with shrimp) was so flavorful and delicious! However, I didn't quite like the texture of the egg banh cuon. The nuoc mam here was pretty decent, wish it could have been more savory, and I would have loved if they offered chili peppers for some extra spice. Overall, this is a solid spot for a quick meal and their portions are generous.

Banh Cuon is probably one my favorite things to eat. Pros: - I love that they offer egg roll version. It makes me feel "healthier." Their egg roll reminds me of the homemade one I've had; I think they put taro in it? - Wintermelon can get super sweet, but over here it's perfectly sweetened. Viet coffee also wasn't crazy sweet and definitely will kick you awake. - Clean and decently spacious restaurant. The place seems decently popular; tables fill up quickly. Cons: - I like my nuoc mam stronger. Theirs feels watered down. I also asked for chili and it seems that they've cleaned out the seeds pretty well because the fresh chili wasn't that spicy. This is a personal preference of mine though so might not be a con for you. Tip: everything is pretty shareable unless you're really hungry. My banh cuon fed me for 2 meals!

It's a cozy spot. The people who work there just seem happy and work well together. They're friendly and patient with me as I navigated their menu items. I could not decide what I wanted so I accidentally ordered 3 drinks: Roasted Oolong Milk Tea Osmanthus Oolong Milk Tea 3Q Milk Tea The roasted oolong was for my sister so I don't know how it was but she wanted another one so that should tell you all you need to know. lol I love floral teas and Osmanthus oolong is my new favorite and it delivered. I opted for the agar aka crystal pearls and that was the right choice for the floral tea. I also accidentally drank the 3Q tea after and while not my favorite, I appreciated all the toppings and the tea was still good. The boba is super unique! It's got a nice, chewy kinda texture. I have never had boba like this before and I wish I had blacked out and gotten double boba.

Honestly, boba fits the area way better now, especially since more tea spots have been popping up around here. I stopped in for a quick drink and there was a steady flow of people coming in and out, which is always a good sign. Inside is clean and modern, very simple but put together. You can order at a kiosk or go up to the cashier, which makes it easy depending on what you prefer. The menu has a solid variety. All your usual milk teas, fruit teas, slushies, and blended drinks, plus a good amount of toppings. They were also advertising a matcha ice spinner which caught my attention, so I'll probably come back to try that and see how their matcha quality is. I went with a mango fruit tea at 75% sweetness and added boba. I sat outside while waiting, they have limited indoor seating but a couple tables outside which is nice. The drink came out in about five minutes, so pretty quick. First thing I noticed was there were actual mango pieces in the drink, not just syrup. That was a nice surprise and added a good texture. They were soft enough to go through the straw too, so it didn't feel annoying to drink. Flavor wise, I do wish I went lower on the sweetness. Even at 75% it was still a bit too sweet for me, but that's more personal preference. The part that didn't really hit was the boba. It was a little mushy and didn't have that chewy texture I usually look for. It also had this slightly artificial honey taste that kind of overpowered the drink a bit. Not terrible, just not my favorite. It's a solid and convenient spot for the area. Good variety, quick service, and a nice setup. I'd come back, but probably switch up the toppings next time.
