Everything tastes incredibly fresh, and their fish sauce is the perfect complement--so flavorful and delicious. We come here pretty much every Sunday, and even when there's a waitlist (especially around noon on Sundays), it's always worth the wait! That's how much we love this place. The restaurant itself isn't too spacious, so it can get pretty busy during peak hours, but the staff are always friendly, kind, and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. So glad to have found a place in San Diego that serves bánh cuốn as it's not an easy-to-find dish outside of OC! I grew up going to Bánh Cuốn Tây Hồ in Westminster and crave this dish from time to time ever since I moved to SD, so I was so overjoyed to see that they serve a pretty close version of one of my favorite entrees, the Bánh Cuốn with Ground Pork [$15.08 w/ tax] -- the only difference being that Thien Huong does not pair the dish with the shrimp and sweet potato fritters. Nonetheless, the dish itself is exactly what I was looking for! Freshly steamed rice rolls filled with a savory mix of ground pork, wood ear mushroom, and onions and topped with crispy fried shallots with a refreshing side of shredded cucumber, cilantro, and bean sprouts! The dish also includes several slices of chả lụa as added protein. Everything is not only fresh but is just so well balanced! I am generally a picky eater, but this is one of the dishes that I will wipe clean as it's not only nostalgic but also THAT good! They have other dishes and classic Vietnamese drinks, like Viet coffee, but I have yet to try them. Parking is relatively easy if you're going during the weekday, but it does get crowded during the weekend. My gf took me here after the airport to try the traditional sizzling platter that she used to have back home. I got combo with meatball hotdog steak strip and two over easy egg. It came with two sauce pour on the meat like gravy and a sweet tomato sauce similar to marinara on the meatball. Over all it was a good dish. I could see some people thinking this dish is bland, but I honestly love more mild flavors like this, and the fish sauce it comes with definitely adds a lot of flavor. The chao was good; every individual item was cooked well and had a lot of flavor. This is my favorite place in Mira Mesa!! I am so happy that Jason's Pizza House pivoted to Thien Huong. It is so much better and way more successful. Dining in is the best experience but takeout is great too. It gets crowded on the weekends so go early (before 10am) if you want to get a table without waiting. We love getting both a Chao and banh cuon to split. Favorites are Chao 1 because it has the beef and no cream cheese. The sauce is so flavorful and the meatball, onions, hot dog, eggs, and beef are all so delicious. For the banh cuon, we like the special which has the ground pork and crispy onions. My wife was DYING to try this place because she had some rice rolls in San Fran and has been obsessed ever since. Unfortunately these were not as good. Just no flavor and the sauce only helped a little. Beef egg was probably the best. My foodie in-laws were not impressed either. My mom was coming up and this was the perfect time as she probably never had this kind of Vietnamese food before either! There is a relatively big free open parking lot with ample stalls that could be difficult during rush brunch hours and the weekends. Upon entering, I saw how big the portions were and since my group of 3 (including me) wanted to share, I ordered two items to share (and surprisingly, it was enough! Only because we're small eaters LOL). I ordered the Special 2, which came with egg, shrimp and ground pork, and the Chao 2, which looked like a Vietnamese breakfast meal consisting of cha lua (pork roll/ham), eggs, sausage, and bun cha (meatballs). This came with a side of French bread to scoop the food and sauce up with. The portions were again quite big, and everything was very good and flavorful, especially the fish sauce with the Special 2. Both meals had a lot of umami flavor which is my favorite taste bud. It was rather refreshing to have this kind of brunch/lunch, different from the carb-heavy meals (yet so delicious).
