Tried this place on a whim with some friends and it was amazing! I tried the BBQ chicken Bahn Mi and the Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef/Pork). Peach Bubble Tea for the drink. We got it to go, but it was VERY tasty. There are a lot of vegetarian options, and free bubble tea refills at the restaurant. We were in town and decided to grab a few banh mi's to go. Inside is nice and small, great for a quick bite but not for large groups. Prices are cheap compared to others in bigger cities in NC, which we appreciated. Service was good, but the food was lacking for us. The bread they use are not the traditional viet style which is normally light and airy with a crisp outer "shell." The meats themselves were very disappointing. The bbq beef was soft and shredded as if they had been boiled..and seemed to taste as if instant pho powder was sprinkled on them. I tasted a lot of it towards the end of the sandwich and had to spit it out due to that particular bite being so salty for some reason. Nothing bbq asian-style about it. The other meats were subpar and just okay. We were pretty disappointed with the food. Perhaps we'll try this place out again in a few months. read more

Pho Cafe is pretty much the only authentic Vietnamese restaurant in this city, since its current owners closed down Saigon Bistro. The restaurant itself is quite small. With only six tables, it's often difficult to sit down and eat. Many people opt to do take out. The service is not poor, but not excellent. It seems like the girl at the register is always overwhelmed. She definitely needs some back up in the store front. Cups of water are often forgotten to be brought out. Orders are taken at the register then brought out to you from the back, but you have to clear your table yourself. Because of this, the tables are often left uncleaned when the next party sits down. The food is average, to say the least. I have tried a few of the menu items, such as the beef pho, vermicelli noodles with grilled pork (bun thit nuong) and the combination banh mi. I would recommend the vermicelli and banh mi over the pho. The broth lacks flavor, and the broth to noodle ratio is uneven. I would have to say the worst thing to get would be the bubble tea. The flavors are horribly artificial, and the tapioca pearls are overcooked to the point of mush. You should check out Tap Tea Bar for boba instead. I don't find myself at Pho Cafe too often, just when my friends and I desperately miss a taste of home. read more

I justed Pho Cafe when they first opened and was blown away. Finally delicious Pho in Wilmington. Today, however, was a different story. I purchase Beef Pho and a BBQ Chicken Bah Mai. The soup had two pieces of beef in it and no matter what I did to seperate the noodles, they stayed in a congealed and mushy clump. The sandwich bread was almost burnt and very tough to bite in to. I ended up throwing the food away and making a turkey sandwich for lunch. I hope this is just a one time bad experience and I will give Pho Cafe another chance due to my first experience being great. read more

Best option in Wilmington for Pho. The portions are extremely generous, but most importantly the quality and the authenticity of the food. Great flavor, fresh ingredients, friendly staff and clean environment makes for a great experience. It is a self serve restaurant once you've placed your order. It's a small menu but has the staples. I've had better Banh mi's but it will definitely give a great fix for an easy to go lunch. The regular milk tea is good and not sweet which is how I prefer my milk teas. The Vietnamese coffee is nice and strong - definitely not watered down! The chicken curry with rice is a thick curry soup and tender chicken. There's also sweet potato in it that makes it a very hearty yet light meal. The pho is flavorful and my favorite is their Banh xeo and bun bo hue or spicy beef soup. My only complaint about the bun bo hue is the meat they give varies with each visit. I prefer mine to have pork knuckles and cuts of pork and beef but these last few times it's a bunch of sliced pork sausage roll only and that's not really what I want to eat when I'm having bun bo hue. The satay that goes with it has a nice kick to it. Great place to eat authentic Vietnamese food for a very reasonable price! read more

The Bahn mi beef sandwich was ok. All the flavors were there. My biggest issue was a smear of beef. Not more a ounce of beef. They ran a spoon of beef across a banquet and called it a day.
