Wonderful lunch! Good selection for vegetarians, but be warned that the "vegetable soup" has a chicken broth base. We got #31, the Lemongrass Chili Tofu Vermicelli, Tofu Cashew Nut stir fry, fried tofu triangles, and #17 Special Beef Combo soup. Portions were perfect for lunch, even had a little leftover for a snack later. The tofu triangles were hot and crispy on the outside, very custardy on the inside. My Beef Combo soup was filled with noodles, a fragrant broth, and plenty of meaty bits, I added the basil, sprouts, a touch of Sriracha and the squeeze of lime for a fantastic, filling lunch. My husband really like his #31 noodles, but admitted he didn't find any strong lemongrass flavor, which he expected. We were a bit disappointed with our lunch here last weekend. We had been here a few years ago on our drive up to Burlington and we were really looking forward to eating here again. It was fine, just nothing special and not how we remembered it... Service was friendly but they were seriously short-staffed I think because there were dirty dishes on most tables in the restaurant and patio that hadn't been cleared. Aside from having a voracious appetite I wanted to check out more than one dish. I was pretty stunned by both. Pho was good and the beef came out slightly rare. Seafood soup broth tasted like broth I've had at other Vietnamese restaurants down south. My one nit picky thing, or 2 rather, is I would've hoped for a slightly less sweet broth (I prefer salty, umami, and sour flavors as opposed to sweet flavors) and also bigger portions (I'm used to larger portions). Pho came out with usual accoutrements- Thai basil, bean sprouts, and lime. Seafood soup- had fish cake (like a fish sausage) and shrimp Other than those 2 things, the food is spot on, especially for somewhere as far and isolated as Vermont. I am from California and we have wonderful Vietnamese restaurants and noodle houses there. I was hopeful that this meal would be on par. I ordered the egg rolls which were good. Green papaya salad was ok. And special beef phó. I was disappointed with the lack of complexity of the broth and lack meat in the dish. The broth was nearly colorless and did not possess the mouth feel of a properly simmered beef phó. The meat in the dish could barely amount to 4 ounces, if that. The special should have brisket but i only fished out one piece of the signature yellow fat that brisket is known for. I was happy to find this restaurant and i hope the owner takes my honest opinion for what it is. If better attention is given to the broth this could be a regional gem. read more
