We saw this cute little restaurant and said let's try it. Let's say the worst ever. They have a guy standing there like he patrolling the place, he was rude and nasty. I ordered a soup with seafood, they had no seafood in it. They take it back, less then 1minute later, they come back with the soup. Was it not made fresh n seafood was old n just not fresh. unlike some of the reviews, my family and I have never received bad service here. It was near closing and they still accommodated us with a nice table and gave us jovial, genuinely friendly and attentive service.They were especially friendly towards my 2 year old son! Our server even took the time to cut his food and playfully engage with him. It was an overall pleasant experience for the whole family. The prices are fantastic and you get a large portion of food! The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are absolutely delicious and unique in flavor. We've driven by this place several times on our way to and from Tahoe. The name of it always makes me laugh. Reminds me of this place in Oakland called Pho King.. I know, right? I could say Pho Country all day. Anyway, the decor is nice for a Pho joint. They did a good job hiding the arched windows from the remnants of a former Taco Bell. I appreciated the upgraded dinnerware. I expected a higher bill to cover the extra expense, but the price was very reasonable. Pho Country is more than a pho joint. They have plenty of Chinese dishes as well. For our party of four, the food was out within minutes. I had the Singapore noodles with shrimp. The generous serving of shrimp was cooked perfectly. It needed just a touch of sriracha for my taste. The spring rolls were just ok. Those who did order pho were pleased to see a generous serving of meat. Been here twice in the last week. Both times the food was delicious and fresh While the service was acceptable. Portions are plenty and it won't break the bank I plan on coming back again soon. On the first visit, we started off with the potstickers. They were tasty and fresh. Cooked proper. For entree, I had the # 33. A combination of meats with wontons in it. It was awesome. The best pho that I've had in the area. The broth was spectacular. And it was very filling. I couldn't finish the bowl. (That is a rarity) Today, we started off with the chicken lettuce wraps. They were awesome. I had the #49 it was a fried shrimp and BBQ pork noodle bowl. It was good. But nothing to write home about. Overall, 4 stars. Like I said, I will be back soon and frequently. I always eat here but I always forget to post a review. So it's about time. I have been to the menu and have settled down on a few favorites. I come here for the Pho. I always order a number 29 or a number 30 large to go. The number 29 is flame broiled and very tasty. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service is quick. If you know what you want you can get your food and be in and out within 30 minutes if you want a quick hot lunch. I highly recommend the spring rolls and mix some peanut sauce along with some Sirrachi and you're golden. There isn't to many good places in the north part of Carson City but this is a nice little secret local spot. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. read more

i'm in carson city every now and then for work, and rather than having to drive to reno, i think this is the most decent place in the area for pho. Now don't get me wrong, this place would never survive in the bay area or any asian dominated area, but considering its location, its decent. i ordered springrolls, the pho combo (dac biet) and thai ice tea. can't really mess up on the tea, otherwise, that'd be an automatic 1 star restaurant. thank goodness they didn't mess up. spring rolls came out, it was fine, came with peanut sauce, nothing special, but was fresh enough. pho came out, def not authentic home made broth, more like a really good instant broth (again, that doesn't say much) but when you just want some pho, this is ok. it didn't have all the meats you'd usually expect, some brisket was missing, there was really more broth (and msg) than needed, noodles were few (which i like, i'm not big on noodles) and enough meat to fill me, but i think if my friends were to eat it, they'd think that it was a bit skimpy for a "large" bowl. if i'm in town again, i'd probably go back, mostly cuz its cheap enough, about $5.50 for the majority of the pho bowls, but don't expect homemade broth people. i think this is mostly because not all the ingredients are readily available to make an authentic broth in carson city. its an ok place. i've tried the other pho places in carson city, their broth is like water, completely unacceptable, so its not so bad here. read more

Came here again on a snowy afternoon to warm up, and the food was even better than it was before! I got the Singapore Noodles, and one of my friends got the Flame Broiled Beef with lemongrass... it was some of the most well seasoned asian beef I have ever had. The meat was lean, not overly cooked, and had a beautiful presentation. My noodles were delicious. They had a light yellow curry flavor, and a few fresh vegetables on it. On top of it all, our waiter was very friendly; he seated us promptly, brought water out immediately (even tho they were packed), and made suggestions on how to eat our food after we received it. So... there we were in Carson City, on February 14th, and the restaurants, recommended by friends who live there, were full up with Cupid's best efforts. After 15 years of marriage, we were just hungry.... happy, but hungry. Luckily we came upon Pho Country. Now, it's also Tét (Vietnamese New Years) so Pho Country was busy as well, but we got in. Wow, were we happy we did. There was a predominantly Asian crowd inside, which we took as a good sign! It's hard to know what you're gonna get the first time in a new place, so we tried a few things ... Imperial Rolls (they call them simply "Egg Rolls") and they were delicious and not greasy at all. We actually ordered a second order, just to have some later, at home. We had two different Pho, and some salads, and a beer each. All the food was fresh and bright. We found service to be prompt, friendly and accommodating (we asked for a half order of something). We highly recommend Pho Country as an all around good experience. P.S. In my opinion, this is not a such a good place to eat. I think it is important to share my personal experience, whether it be good or bad and to let other people know. I ordered chicken Pad Thai to go. I was hungry so I took a couple of bites on my way home. I immediately noticed that the chicken tasted rubbery and "different." When I got home, I looked at the chicken more closely ... oh my! There were chicken feet, cut up in my food order! I am "really" bothered by this! I do realize that this is the traditional way to eat in Thailand and other Asian countries however, I am not accustomed to eating certain foods. I grew up in San Francisco near a large Asian district and I have seen this before. Like I mentioned, this is common in Asian countries. There should be some guidelines within the health codes or city codes, however there aren't any. I was told to request breast meat or let the proprietor know my feelings. Decent bowl of oxtail pho; egg rolls and chow mien were great, nothing extraordinary. Fairly inexpensive for portion sizes.

There is little in Carson for Pho but Pho Country is definitely the place to go. The Pho itself is good, and I eaten in Reno and Bay Area and this ranks up there with most. I have not tried other foods, but Beef and Chicken Pho have served me well. When I worked on a project for the state I met my colleges and friends here and the outside covered patio area worked best. It can get busy at lunch and this area is the best for acoustics and talking with others, plus it is pleasant and protected from the outdoors. The staff was friendly and warm, and prompt even though they were obviously busy and maybe understaffed for the peak hour in observation, but in reality they got the job done with a smile and the quality of food did not suffer. Price is right, and parking is sufficient. Exterior is deceiving because it is an old fast food place (taco bell?) and you may drive pass it, but after I found there was little Pho in Carson City worth it, I tried it and have not been disappointed. ~ Enjoy! read more

Very busy on a Sunday evening - always encouraging. Huge menu. Hot and sour soup was the best we've ever had. Even the tap water was tasty. They seemed a little overwhelmed with the number of customers but they worked hard to keep up. Excellent meal, great prices. I got past the 1st hair that was rolled in it, but my stomach couldn't get past the second one. I return the rolls half eaten, THEN THEY CHARGED ME FOR IT!!! The atmosphere entering was amazing. I love the beaded drapes! We had a party of 10, so the seating was a little crowded. Ordered the spring rolls and egg rolls for our appetizers. The peanut sauce was really thick and amazing, the rolls were fresh and appealing. I ordered the war wonton as always, was impressed on the size of the bowl. I could probably hold it in my lap like I used to do with a giant bowl of popcorn. Huge portion! (You're welcome for the visual.) It was perfect, for 8 bucks I had lunch, and got to take home the rest for dinner! I'm pretty simple when it comes to Vietnamese food. Usually I just opt for rice noodle soup with vegetables only. This place is great! The service, while still a little rusty, is decent and the people are friendly. The food has been consistently tasty. I recommend the #48, it's my favorite. You can usually eat for two for under twenty bucks and have plenty of leftovers to take home. The family that runs this place have been my neighbors for just about 10 years and have always gone out of their way to be great hosts and have always cooked with the freshest ingredients. Give them a try, I suggest waiting till after the peak hour rush for the best experience. read more

It has been a while since I had lunch here, but overall my experience was good. I liked the atmosphere and the restaurant was clean. The food was awesome and reasonably priced. I had to knock a bit off the star rating because our service was sub-par. Our waiter wanted to spend as little time at our table as possible and seemed uninterested in answering the questions we were asking about the options. I recently moved to the Carson Valley from an area in California with a large Vietnamese population. There were numerous Pho places and I ate it at least twice a week. I was very happy to find Pho Country and I find the food there very good. Is it as good as you might find in the the Bay Area of CA? During my 3 days ski trip, I went to this restaurant twice. Their menu is combination of Vietnamese and Chinese, which means variety of choices. I ordered cash chicken and calamari for appetizer and rice noodle soup for main. They are not something special but good enough for the price. Soup is average and the soup isn't as hot as I would like. The large comes in a large bowl but the noodle seem to be about the same amount. I got the regular large bowl with rare meat, the soup was not bad. However, their egg rolls are no good, it has the pork smell which I cannot enjoy. A good Vietnamese restaurant is hard to find. Dunno why - they all seem to have good cooks but they can't help but mess it up somehow. This place comes pretty close to being one of the few really good Viet place outside of the main Vietnamese areas in the USA. I have a wheat allergy and they saw to it both times that I got food I could eat. It was all delicious. Of note: the chile sauce in oil - at many places this tastes like tobacco, here it was really good and I ate a whole lot of it. The Vietnamese iced tea seemed to be jasmine and was aromatic, flavorful and unsweetened. Prices for lunch were pretty low, compared to other Viet places I've tried in Oregon and such... This restaurant will be on our must-visit places when we return to Carson City. read more

This is the best restaurant in Carson City. It is worth the drive from Reno and I look forward to eating here whenever I am down here for meetings. The food is extremely fresh and well prepared. Their fresh rolls with (grilled) pork and shrimp is good. I've never had grilled pork in a fresh roll before. Their pho is nice on a cold and rainy day. I just like eating the beef balls and tendons and their broth isn't anything to write home about. Fried spring rolls are good and the vegan enjoyed her tofu fresh rolls with veggies.
