This Vietnamese restaurant has opened up a branch on the UCSD campus after exclusively serving the Mira Mesa community for many years. The shop debuted a little over three weeks ago in the Pepper Canyon complex which is a short walking distance from the Gilman Parking Structure. It's a fairly straight shot when you are coming northbound on Villa La Jolla Drive and reach the structure where there are paid visitor parking spaces for $2.25 per hour. A tablet was placed outside the entrance to enter your party name on the waitlist if necessary. I came on a weekday afternoon before the dinner rush. There was no wait, however the seating capacity was at least 80 percent filled. A multi-page menu was given to me as I was escorted to some countertop seating along the western facing windows. Three pages were dedicated to the pho offerings, but I was looking for a bowl of vermicelli noodles (bun). The ten varieties were priced between $13.25 and $14.80 each, depending on which and how many proteins you wanted. My selection was the Grilled Shrimp & Grilled Pork. The rice noodles were topped with shredded lettuce, cucumbers, bean sprouts, mint, pickled carrots, daikon, and roasted peanuts. Four pieces of grilled shrimp and at least a half dozen cuts of grilled pork sat on top of the mound. A cup of vinaigrette fish sauce was provided on the side. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick the order was prepared after a worker took my order on a tablet. It could not have been more than five minutes, and it was certainly faster than their flagship location in Mira Mesa. The amount of food in the bowl was good for the price which is great for students on a limited budget. For the efficiency of service, cost, and quality of my meal, I gave a 4.5 star rating for my visit to Pho Cow Cali.

Very convenient location for UCSD students and those near medical campus. It's located in pepper canyon West residence building.

It's so modular and easy to order from the table through our phone app,, it honestly felt as high-tech as Tony Stark commanding F.R.I.D.A.Y. from his suit tbh. Although this was not our first time eating here, they must have changed the business model, as the last time we went was almost a decade ago. Their menu has changed significantly, and although they were excellent before, I think they are even better. We tried pretty much all of the proteins, from the steak, chicken, pork rib, ribs, and they were all excellent very fresh ingredients. The meats were so perfectly cooked and tender they basically fell apart easier than Thanos's army at the end of Endgame lol. We especially love the side dishes. The broccolini was excellent with the sesame sauce. We loved the brussels sprouts as well. And I really loved the beef and mushroom soup. It had such a comforting and rich flavor that it felt like Scarlet Witch used some chaos magic in the kitchen to get it exactly right. French fries were pretty good, and pretty standard. That was the only dish that was average, but everything else was excellent. Good service and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We even brought our pups! The patio was so spacious and chill it basically felt like relaxing at the Avengers compound after a mission. Parking is super easy. It was such a breeze we didn't even need to use Pym particles to shrink our car to fit into a spot. Five out of five stars

I ordered the chimichurri steak with Brussels sprouts and macaroni and cheese, and the experience was disappointing from start to finish. The first plate came out with cold sides, so I sent it back. The replacement was still barely lukewarm, and neither plate even had the chimichurri sauce that was supposed to come with the steak. The manager admitted they were having trouble keeping the food warm and offered a refund. Looking back, I wish I had just taken it and left. The meal was completely inedible and a waste of $27. I ended up taking the steak home for my dog and leaving the sides untouched. I went to Mendocino Farms instead, where I finally had an enjoyable lunch. I won't be returning. What a waste of money!!

We picked PERUVIAN STEAK SANDWICH, a seared steak tossed in Spicy aji amarillo sauce, then their CHIMICHURRI STEAK BACON; it's a seared steak and applewood-smoked bacon, and also got their SMOKEY BBQ BRIOCHE SANDWICH , this one is a smoke Pork burnt ends with BBQ sauce. Every sandwich we had tasted good, but i like the most the Chimichurri Steak & Bacon, it's more to my palate, not too sweet or not too spicy. Service was quick our sandwiches were done quickly, plenty of staff go around checking the tables and greeting the customers. Parking is easy, with lots of spaces.

I think I was sitting in the store for at least 30 minutes while a family member waited in our car and watched several people park, get their orders and leave. Two people who ordered after us received their food before we did. I finally stood up and only then did an associate crabbily pack up our order and give it to us. When we first arrived, no one even showed up at the counter for at least five minutes. There was another customer waiting behind us as well. My sandwich (Happy Hippie) was not very good...insubstantial and put together in a blah manner. A family member who had the "not so fried chicken sandwich" said it was too salty. I paid $62 for this order (with a tip, which I had added before the long wait...) It obviously wasn't a good value, This is a beautiful and clean store but a general lack of enthusiasm from the associates, inconsistent customer service, high prices, and mediocre quality food will dissuade me from making any future visits to this location.

She is incredible, but how overworked she is reflects in how slowly the line moves and how long it takes for you to get your food. Food: 4/5 The food is decent! The crispy pork appetizer is crunchy, and the spicy sauce it comes with is delicious and spicy enough. The pad thai was a little soggy, but it's still very good. Be warned: the level 5 spice is as spicy as eating a healthy dollop of wasabi by itself. Service: 2.5/5 Don't get me wrong, the woman manning the cashier and floor is efficient, amazing, and clearly hardworking--she gets things done. But we waited about 30 minutes in line just to get our order in on a Friday. I would not recommend that you come here during your lunch break unless you order ahead. Ambiance: 2/5 There is not a lot of noise insulation inside the building, so loud conversations echo around the room. Outside, the tables are very grimy. The interior is very nicely decorated, and there are lots of shady areas outside. I would recommend this place to someone who works in the area and can call ahead. This would not be my first pick for Thai food. Final rating: 2.83/5 (rounding up to 3 on Yelp)

One thing I absolutely LOVE about this place is the whole garden café concept. They have two separate counters, one right in front of the parking lot for food orders and another tucked inside the garden for coffee, pastries, and bowls. The Green Power Bowl sounded tempting, but I ended up going with the Pitaya bowl, and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. After the first bite, I could immediately tell the fruits were fresh and no syrups were used and the fruit didn't have that frozen texture that some places use. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. For $12.50, I also thought the portion was surprisingly generous, especially considering the fresh ingredients. The couple taking orders and serving customers were incredibly friendly to me and others, and the whole place had that welcoming, local neighborhood feel that's becoming harder to find these days. I found the garden beautiful, with plenty of outdoor seating whether you want to sit in the sun or find a shady spot to relax. I'm already looking forward to coming back.
