Came here specifically to try the coffee and was honestly really impressed. First off, the place is super cute. You can enter from the outside, but it's also connected to Vinh Hung Supermarket, which makes it such a convenient little hidden gem. The coffee was strong, bold, and sweet, exactly how I like Vietnamese coffee. It had that rich, authentic flavor without being overly sugary. We tried two versions: the yellow foam was the cheese foam, and the white foam was the salted coffee. The cheese foam was interesting because it honestly reminded me a little of Cheese Whiz, which I was definitely not expecting. It was still good and fun to try, just different from the cheese foam style I've had at other coffee shops. The salted coffee was more what I expected from a creamy foam topping and was probably my favorite of the two. It paired perfectly with the strong coffee. Overall, this place is really good and inexpensive compared to Saigon Coffee in North Park. I'd honestly say the coffee here is comparable, if not maybe a tad better, here at Saigon Corner. Went to check this place out because my wife and I wanted soup. She ordered the bun Bo hue and I ordered beef rib soup. Service was great but I think the servers didn't speak much English which was fine because we pointed at the items we wanted on the menu. The food came out and it was a good portion. Both our soups were pretty tasty especially when you add the condiments they had. Wish they offered lime to add like all the other Vietnamese restaurants but the food tasted fine without it. I finished my bowl and my son finished his kids meal. The fried fish with the roe inside was soooooo good! Reminded me of China max back then because they were the only one that had that. The menu keeps changing as they are still figuring out what works and what doesn't work. We came at peak lunch time on a Saturday and our food came out quick. We ordered: -Chicken wing garlic fish sauce: This was crispy and seasoning was right on. We liked how it was fried and wanted to try other flavors but got too full. -Broken rice grilled pork: Loved that they offer legit broken rice, the bbq pork was nicely char and moist. The egg loaf was a bit dry. -Bánh canh tôm cua: least favorite out of all. The broth has a thick consistency similar to egg drop soup with starchy tapioca noodles. Broth wasn't as flavorful as other places and lacking more shrimp flavors. -Crispy fried egg noodle w beef: Can't go wrong with this dish. Crispy noodles with veggies on top. -Periwinkle snails in coconut milk: wow, the portion was generous. I prefer the curry broth to be more curry-like, it was more of a watered down coconut curry. -mussels with green onion sauce: This was prepared nicely. You must dip in their sauce to get the whole experience. For drinks, I got the coconut coffee I tasted the coffee and coconut flavors, wasn't too sweet. My friend got the coconut kumquat. She likes that it was refreshing and they used whole kumquats with the skin. She also tasted a bit of lemon and preferred it to be more sour and not so sweet. Overall, this place gives you a glimpse of Vietnamese street food. I like the seafood items. Reminds me of night market. Not very many places make this hearty soup. 1st thing I noticed is that it wasn't even that hot when I got home and I only live 5 mins away. Had to reheat it in the microwave. They give a decent amount of offal for 1 bowl and it didn't have a bad taste or odor. Overall 2.5 out of 5. Nothing too special. I wouldn't order it again for almost $17 a bowl. TBH I haven't heard a lot good things about this place but supposedly they recently changed up their menu and they're trying to see what works best for them. Hopefully they can do better. Saigon Corner is the replacement for another Vietnamese eatery that had occupied a corner annex to the Vinh Hung Supermarket in the Village at Mira Mesa. The space was connected to the market through a corridor filled with other vendors. About 50 customers could be seated in the dining area which also had a small karaoke/stage setup next to the main entrance leading outside. Several menu screens were mounted behind the service counter, but I found it easier to read from the takeout menu. The listings were in numeric order, but they didn't seem to follow any logical progression. There was a mix of appetizers, soups, small plates, and entrees on the internal pages. The beverages and desserts were located on the external pages. I selected the Fish Balls with Garlic as a starter and the Garlic Butter Noodles with Crawfish as a main dish. There were three skewers each speared with three fish balls that were sprinkled with garlic seasoning. The exterior was chewy while the inside was not as firm as I expected for the ground up fish. The noodles were served with chopped onions and several pieces of crawfish. A side salad was also added to the dish. The noodles were buttery yet I didn't find the garlic flavor to be strong. Had cravings for banh cuon and my usual spot was closed, so decided to give this place another try. For a Wednesday afternoon, it was super empty, but I had called my order in so it was ready when I arrived. I decided to add a coconut coffee, which took a while to make. Worth the wait but definitely something to consider if I'm in a rush. It had great flavor, perfectly sweet and had toasted coconut on the top with jelly at the bottom, and definitely had lot of caffeine! The banh cuon I got was the traditional one with the pork loaf. It was good, but I feel like the ratio of meat to carb was off.. I would've liked either a little less rice sheet or more meat. The fish sauce it came with was good and it was a good portion. The whole place doesn't feel that welcoming, no background music, no ambiance light, staff don't come and check on you whatsoever. I've been seeing a lot of good review about this place so we decided to try it. The place is clean and the staff are friendly. The waiting time for the food to arrive is very long. We order udon crab noodle, soup, mussel and French fries. The udon crab noodle come out 15 minutes after we order. The next one is mussel and it took another 15 minutes. We have to ask the staff to do the French fries first since my kid getting inpatient. The fries took 45 minutes to come out and the soup took almost an hour to come out. We end up taking the soup togo since it is too late. Food is okay, the soup is a little salty and they didn't have the ketchup to eat with French fries. We ended up buying in the market next to it. Came for a late lunch -- definitely better than last time since it wasn't as crowded. The place has a modern, dark-toned vibe that's geared more toward a younger crowd. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, and we were greeted right away. We ordered the Saigon Noodle Soup (light, clear broth with shrimp and pork -- a bit too plain for our taste), the Vietnamese Udon Soup (thicker broth with crab and mushrooms -- decent but not memorable), and the Filet Mignon Steak Platter (the best of the three). The beef was flavorful, and the crunchy bread with egg yolk dip was a nice touch. One thing we really liked is that their menu has a good variety -- from noodle soups to rice dishes and appetizers -- so there's something for everyone.
