    Bun rieu small

Great little authentic hole in the wall spot. I ordered the bun rieu, it was lacking in flavor so I asked for some more shrimp paste and it made it a little better. The place was filled with Vietnamese locals so I had high hopes for bun rieu, maybe this is just the bun Bo hue spot. The owner was so nice and sat me right away! I will be back to try the bun Bo hue and leave an updated review :)

Fried chicken wings, this is a must to eat here!

The food was amazing! This is a truly a hidden gem! I really love the fried chicken with scallions and jalapeño, such a unique flavor like none other! The BBH was very unique too, pretty spicy but the broth is clear. The service was good and the place is hidden but it's such a good spot to eat!

Came here for breakfast after driving in from Temecula. There's a shared parking lot area which is convenient and this eatery only accepts cash only. The restaurant is on the smaller size, but I saw many people arriving to pick up orders to go. I opted for the Bun Bo Hue after seeing all the positive feedback on yelp and the reviews are pretty spot on. Service is prompt and friendly by the staff members. My large bowl arrived quickly, and the broth was clean and contained a good amount of proteins and the price is reasonable compared to Little Saigon prices - possibly due to cash only policy. The bowl of bbh was solid and I could really taste the lemongrass seasoning. Overall, a pleasant experience and I would certainly return here in the future.

There aren't too many restaurants in SD that have this type of Vietnamese food. We came here for lunch and got com hen, mi quang, banh nam, and banh bot loc. The last two items came out 20 minutes later, so we thought that they forgot LOL. The food is authentic and they are known for their bun rieu or bun bo hue! It's cash only and service is pretty nonexistent, FYI.

Visited this place on the drive through Linda V. Didn't notice this place at first. It's like a hole in the wall spot. Nothing fancy but you'll get a bang for your buck. I really wanted to try their fried chicken as the picture on the wall had me sold. Unfortunately it was not what I expected. It sort of sweet. To sweet. I balanced it out by eating lettuce with. The chicken was cooked perfectly though. The guy tried to talk me out of getting the chicken cause he said it was 15 mins wait. I got the chicken. But I should have listened. Haha The egg rolls was delicious.

A cozy spot for some delicious and very fairly priced food! We got a Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong (L) and it was huge. Portions were also generous for the Bun Cha Ca (S). They both came with heaping portions of vegetables and were filling. Food came out just a few minutes after ordering. They are cash only! We will be back to try more of their food.

The pho here hits different (spicy beef noodle soup). Highly recommend. The coffee, very strong with a distinctive taste. 3rd sip into yours hooked on the style though. Been coming here for years. Awesome mom& pop service too. Kinda small inside. Great hole in the wall find.

This Is the only place in San Diego in which I will eat BBH. I have tried the other place in city Heights and my family and I thought it was odd tasting and very sweet. I've been here a couple times when I crave BBH and it honestly takes me back to my childhood where I used to eat at authentic Vietnamese restaurants with the TV playing Vietnamese cooking shows and menus that are taped onto the walls. The only thing I get here is the BBH and and I love to put extra sate chili sauce because it's that good. They also sell their chili sauce on the side in jars if you wanna grab that too, and I think they sell cha Lua too. The vibe here is very authentic Vietnamese and so are the workers who are the owners. They are very sweet and they're really friendly. It's cash only so make sure you have that. I think they have ATM inside. Parking is a little tight. I hope this place stays open forever because there is so little good Vietnamese food in San Diego already so this place needs to stay open so I can eat bun Bo hue when I crave it and am missing home.

    Bun Bo hue large

Mien Trung's bun Bo hue was really good. We got a large to share since it wasn't that much more ( I love a good price anchor) The broth was more pork focused instead of shrimpy which gave it a light flavorful broth. I thought the portion size was decent but after going to Hoai Hue right after and getting their bbh dac biet which was bigger for not much more, I think Mien Trung is still decent value. The cash only thing isn't a big deal since they have an ATM right inside their shop. Lotta viet locals came into eat while we were there which is great to see. If I were sick, I'd definitely come eat this bbh because the broth was really refreshing.

We recently ate here for the first time and enjoyed each dish that we ordered. Most authentic Vietnamese noodle house that we have found since traveling to Vietnam. Friendly service (they do have English speakers), clean restaurant, large free parking lot, CASH ONLY. Dishes are ample portions with plenty of fresh veg on the side. We plan to go back and try new dishes. Definitely worth checking out if you like Vietnamese food other than pho.

Super cozy little spot! Parkings a bit small, but nonetheless was able to find parking right away. Food was quick to get out. I ordered a bun boe hue(large) and chicken wings. Never had tried bun boe hue before but it was pretty good, the lemongrass citrusy flavor was delicious in the soup and the wings were super fresh and delicious!!! The wings had garlic and jalepenos and were slightly sweet but the flavors complimented eachother. Service was good and quick and they seemed pretty busy on a Sunday.

Great quality, Great quantity, Great value This is the restaurant for you if you are looking for an authentic and genuine Vietnamese dining experience with great food at a great price. From the aromas and taste to the ambience and regulars, everything about this restaurant screams genuine. This has got to be one of my favorite hidden gems that I have tried recently and I am surprised with how few of my friends and colleagues know about this place. The only potential downside of this restaurant is the fact that they are Cash Only but this is a very common practice for genuine asian restaurants back where I am from. I sat for a meal for two and ordered the following: Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet Bun Rieu Dac Biet: Tangy, rich, light. This is probably the best Bun Rieu that I have had in all of San Diego. Cha Gio (Egg Rolls): Crispy, flakey, refreshing. This dish comes with 6 eggrolls and lettuce wraps along with a savory chili fish sauce (nuoc mam cham). The eggrolls are made fresh meaning each bite is hot, crispy, and flakey. I enjoy lining the lettuce wrap with the chili sauce at the table and wrapping the egg roll with the lettuce and finally dipping that all in the fish sauce. Few words need to be said for how simple yet delicious the egg rolls here are. They are also quite cheap so I highly recommend this appetizer

How big of a pot do they accept? Approximately how much cash should you have on you to buy a pot worth of bun bo hue?

Once inside, we stood there for about 15 minutes, and not one employee acknowledged us or asked if we were waiting to be seated. There appeared to be no hostess managing the front or any clear process for letting someone know that your number had been called. Eventually, I told my husband to flag down a waiter just to find out what was going on and how we were supposed to alert someone that we were there. When he finally spoke with an employee, we were told that our number had been called and that after five minutes they considered us a "no-show." That explanation made absolutely no sense because we had been standing inside the restaurant for at least 15 minutes, and during that entire time, we never heard anyone call a number or a name for ANYONE. To claim we were a no-show when we were physically standing there waiting to be acknowledged was extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, things didn't improve much from there. I'm from Dallas, Texas, where we have plenty of great Vietnamese restaurants, so I know what good pho and Vietnamese food should taste like. Unfortunately, this experience fell short. I ordered the chicken pho, and my husband ordered the bbq pork vermicelli. For appetizers, we ordered the egg rolls and the pork paste spring rolls. I did enjoy the pork paste spring rolls, but the egg rolls were very greasy and tasted like they had been re-fried. My chicken pho was also disappointing. The noodles were cut in half and were so mushy that they practically disintegrated in the broth. The service was also lacking, and the staff did not come across as particularly friendly or welcoming. While the pork paste spring rolls was a bright spot, the overall quality of the food and service left a lot to be desired. Don't believe the hype.

Today, it's one of the most well-known Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and after this visit, I can definitely see why. One of my favorite things about coming here is the location. Even though it's right in Convoy, parking has never been an issue for me. I usually avoid the area because finding a spot can be a headache, but Phuong Trang has a large parking lot that makes stopping by so much easier. I came in for a quick takeout lunch. One thing to know before you go is they don't accept Apple Pay, so make sure to bring a physical card or cash. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They greeted me when I walked in, gave me plenty of time to look over the menu, and never made me feel rushed. That kind of hospitality really stood out. I ordered the Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli and the Shrimp, Pork & Jellyfish Salad. The salad comes with shredded green papaya, celery, cucumber, carrots, shrimp, pork, jellyfish strips, fresh mint, crushed peanuts, and shrimp chips. The salad was refreshing with plenty of shrimp and jellyfish throughout. I especially liked the crunch from the green papaya. My only complaint was that the dressing felt a little one dimensional. I wish it had a little more brightness to bring out the fresh herbs and vegetables. It was still enjoyable, though. The Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli was my favorite of the two. It came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, pickled daikon and carrots, crushed peanuts, plus five grilled beef rolls wrapped around scallions. The beef had a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The only downside was that the inside of the rolls was a little chewy since it didn't get the same char as the outside. Even so, every bite was packed with flavor, so it wasn't enough to take away from the dish. Between the friendly service, quick turnaround for takeout, and solid food, I can see why Phuong Trang has stayed so popular for all these years. I'd happily come back and keep working my way through their menu.

Service: Great, the servers check in a decent amount of the time and you can usually flag them down if you need anything Food: This is where my review goes downhill. The only thing I would say is worth getting at this restaurant is the baguette with butter (no add-ons, caviar or whatever they have going on at the time -- its just not worth it -- when I got the black truffle on my butter the shavings were so thin they might as well have not been there since it made no difference in flavor) The tamarind wings are one dimensional -- the wings are fried well, but lack in flavor, its straight *overwhelming* tamarind with no other notes. House made egg noodles lack any sort of noticeable flavor, most of it stemming from the Lap Cheong but most definitely not worth the price tag that it holds ($36) The dry aged duck is where I feel the most "scammed out of". Ive gotten this both times i've been here. Both times its been overly salty. I understand its dry-aged, but the saltiness overtakes any other flavor of the duck. The sauces try to make up for the lack of flavor but they just cant carry the entire dish on their own -- especially not for a $100 price tag. The first time I ordered this dish (Jan 2026) the duck came out cold-warm, and the second time I came here (July 2026) it came out warmer.
