Anyways, my friend and I came here for lunch recently, and I was surprised that I've never been here before. They are known for their Bun Bo Hue, which is what my friend got, and it was very flavorful, the broth was perfect. What I got: - Bánh Bột Lọc Lá: the texture and flavor on these were really delicious. When we ordered it, the waiter gave us this nod like, "good choice," and it was! Especially dipped in the fish sauce. - Bún Chả Giò Thịt Nướng: I asked for mine to have no bean sprouts, but he must have forgotten, because my bowl came with a generous amount of bean sprouts. That was not an issue for me though, I can just eat around it. I did feel like the meat they put was on the fattier side, so that was a bit of a let down. Came here for breakfast after driving in from Temecula. There's a shared parking lot area which is convenient and this eatery only accepts cash only. The restaurant is on the smaller size, but I saw many people arriving to pick up orders to go. I opted for the Bun Bo Hue after seeing all the positive feedback on yelp and the reviews are pretty spot on. Service is prompt and friendly by the staff members. My large bowl arrived quickly, and the broth was clean and contained a good amount of proteins and the price is reasonable compared to Little Saigon prices - possibly due to cash only policy. This Is the only place in San Diego in which I will eat BBH. I have tried the other place in city Heights and my family and I thought it was odd tasting and very sweet. I've been here a couple times when I crave BBH and it honestly takes me back to my childhood where I used to eat at authentic Vietnamese restaurants with the TV playing Vietnamese cooking shows and menus that are taped onto the walls. The only thing I get here is the BBH and and I love to put extra sate chili sauce because it's that good. They also sell their chili sauce on the side in jars if you wanna grab that too, and I think they sell cha Lua too. The vibe here is very authentic Vietnamese and so are the workers who are the owners. They are very sweet and they're really friendly. It's cash only so make sure you have that. I think they have ATM inside. Parking is a little tight. I hope this place stays open forever because there is so little good Vietnamese food in San Diego already so this place needs to stay open so I can eat bun Bo hue when I crave it and am missing home. read more

We got a large to share since it wasn't that much more ( I love a good price anchor) The broth was more pork focused instead of shrimpy which gave it a light flavorful broth. I thought the portion size was decent but after going to Hoai Hue right after and getting their bbh dac biet which was bigger for not much more, I think Mien Trung is still decent value. The cash only thing isn't a big deal since they have an ATM right inside their shop. Lotta viet locals came into eat while we were there which is great to see. If you prefer it to be a bit more flavorful, you can add the premixed shrimp paste sauce and extra sate chili oil they have available on the table. Small restaurant with not very many tables inside. I sat for a meal for two and ordered the following: Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet Bun Rieu Dac Biet: Tangy, rich, light. This is probably the best Bun Rieu that I have had in all of San Diego. Cha Gio (Egg Rolls): Crispy, flakey, refreshing. This dish comes with 6 eggrolls and lettuce wraps along with a savory chili fish sauce (nuoc mam cham). The eggrolls are made fresh meaning each bite is hot, crispy, and flakey. I enjoy lining the lettuce wrap with the chili sauce at the table and wrapping the egg roll with the lettuce and finally dipping that all in the fish sauce. Such a legit hole in wall type of restaurant! Circled around because Google Maps kept leading us to different plazas but it's on the side as a stand alone restaurant down the street with its own parking lot. Got the banh beo, chicken wings, and duck bamboo shoot noodles #7 bun mang vit Portions are big and great value for what you get! I got the duck noodles because I don't see it often on the menu at most viet restaurants. It was great, at first I got a kick from the spicy chili oil in the broth but it isnt too spicy at all! Lots of pieces of duck meat and came with veggies to add to the noodles. The fried chicken wings were the best tho! Extra crispy and fried to perfection and beautifully golden too! Loved the flavor on the wings. The banh bao was good, comes with a bowl of fish sauce to dip or pour and two pieces of cha lua. I will say ordering may be a bit more difficult because the staff that took our order seemed to only speak Vietnamese but our broken Vietnamese came thru to say which items we wanted to order lol also note that this place is cash only but there's an atm located inside the restaurant. It is different from pho with its thick noodles, choices/slices of meat, but still has the comforting elements of spicy, sour, umami, and essence of Southeast Asian flavors from lemongrass. This place was recommended to us by a local Vietnamese friend who said it was the best bun Bo hue in San Diego. We ordered the large bun Bo hue and their number 3 (fish noodle dish). The noodles came with a complimentary side of freshly chopped lettuce and bean sprouts and lemon/lime wedges. The broth was super flavorful and tasted so comforting and homey- like something you would eat at an auntie's house. The flavors are deep and rich and you can tell the broth has been simmering for hours. We loved their chili oil to add extra spice to the noodles. It is CASH ONLY, but they do have an atm machine in the store. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. For around $13-14 per dish, we left feeling stuffed and happy. This restaurant truly delivered what I consider to be one of the best Bun Bo Hue bowls I've ever had in my life (coming from a household with Hue grandparents). The broth was very rich, spicy, and balanced the umami of the beef with the lemongrass herb blend. Mien Trung has surpassed any BBH restaurant I've had in Texas and prices are amazingly fair for such large portions. On top of high quality food, the owners were very kind and attentive. It comes with veggies, crispy sesame crackers, and a pungent shrimp paste dressing. This is very strong and will challenge food adventurers. I've also had the bun rieu with snails. *Cash Only Mien Trung brings me back to growing up in Socal and going to Westminster and Garden Grove with my family for Vietnamese food. Most places would have very extensive menus, but were really only "known" or cooked a specific dish really well. This is very common and exactly how Mien Trung is. I knew that I was going to get the Bun Bo Hue and those that come here should probably do the same (even though I wanted to also try their Bun Cha Ca and Bun Rieu lol). The staff were very friendly and could understand my pigeon-level of Vietnamese-speaking. The waiter even asked if I wanted the Pork Blood with my Bun Bo Hue which was a subtle but really appreciated question because I don't eat that and he probably knew that too lmao. The BBH was super flavorful and great! The broth is a lot more clear and lighter than others I've had, but the flavor was absolutely there. My gf also got the Bun Cha Gio without the pork and she really enjoyed it. It was quite good but unlike the other ones I've tried, it didn't have much of a "deep" crab and pork flavor. Regardless, the taste was really good! For a small, it doesn't look that big (peep pic) but it was super filling. I loved how it had a TON of toppings, including pig's blood, which I don't usually see on bun rieu dishes. My friend got their small Bun Bo Hue. I tried the broth, and it had a very earthy, herby which I didn't like and care much of. I do want to come back next time to try their Banh Beo and Banh Khot! A true go to for all family gatherings. I always think of them when I need a giant meal to serve hungry family members. First off, we love their BBH, who doesn't. We usually bring a giant stock pot or two and ask them to fill them up with pork blood and hocks. Extra $ but totally worth it. We also ask them to give us the noodle and veggies so we can be extra lazy. Also an extra $20 but again, TOTALLY worth it bc they are SUPER generous. I was worried we wouldn't have enough noodle but there was a literal bag full. We had also ordered their small tray of chicken wings and lemme tell ya those were on point! CRISPY, fish saucy, so so good! The kids munched them up. the BBH usually ranged around $80-120 to serve like 8-10 ppl but honestly I find that we had leftovers. The wings were $60? This most recent time, we decided to get their Bun Rieu which we don't usually get and it was a hit! My MIL doesn't like spicy food anymore so we got this cuz the BBH gets so spicy (especially after you let it marinate a few days). We loved that they put tofu, tomatoes and crab-sage in there. I actually can't wait to get this again. I think this was around $85 with noodles and veggies and served 6 people with plenty of leftovers. I don't think it's necessary but generally I call ahead (either morning of or day before) and let them know how many servings I want. This ensures that I can get what I want. Haven't been able to find a place that's better no matter how many places I've tried in LA and the OC.
