I was looking for a go-to pho restaurant and Pho Dao came highly recommended. From the first bite, I loved this place and it did become my regular spot for pho. So far, everything we've had here has been very good. The service and staff are good and friendly. It was too fatty so I just have to my husband. We also got the lemon beef salad. Which was good, lots of pickled onions, so it's not too strong. I don't mind this, but if you're looking for a strong beef flavor in the broth it's not gonna be this spot. The meat can be hit or miss sometimes, but on a good day it's nice and tender! I think they cook the meat beforehand vs laying the meat on raw & cooking it with the soup, which is the one thing I'm not a fan of since I like my meat on the rarer side. It was my first time trying out pho and I was super excited for this experience and to expand my palette. I chose this place because I saw so many good reviews about this place. When I walked in I saw no one inside, not a single person was eating here. I should've taken this as a sign and left as soon as possible. I decided to give it a shot since I'm like "why not?". I go up to the woman in the front and not a single smile or friendly gesture she just tells us to sit anywhere and goes back to the front. I ordered the number 7 and my husband ordered the special. The woman brings us our bowls and then brings us the herbs. The herbs did not look fresh at all!! Some parts were black. I see that the woman sits down a few tables behind us. She's scrolling on her phone with the same gloves she used to hand us our food. I'm pretty sure she's been using those gloves for a while and hasn't switched it out which is pretty disgusting to me. When the food arrived, I was so surprised on how much food I received but I do want to mention that the menu said "eggrolls", I only received 1 eggroll. As for flavor, I thought the grilled pork was too sweet and the eggroll was cold and soggy. Service is quite slow here. The pho here is delicious and is currently standing as my fiancee's favorite pho restaurant in San Jose. He normally gets the Signature Pho which serves US Kobe beef. I normally get the bun rieu which I got last time but this time around, I opted for pho as well and got the signature. I did a small bowl and my fiancee got the medium. Size wise they do not look that different but I believe he has a bit more meat and definitely more broth. They offer fresh, dry rice and egg noodles options for the signature pho. I said fresh but didn't realize that meant they were the flat noodles which was fine but something to note if you wanted the regular pho noodles which I think would be the dry rice? Every single time we come here, we were always able to get a seat, there's customers flowing in and out so it never gets packed to the point where you have to wait. They are inside a small plaza so there's a parking lot attached. Two bathrooms in the back, one for women and one for men. The TV is always playing some random movie.
