I liked this place! There's a parking lot right next to it. It wasn't that busy since we were eating dinner fairly early and we were greeted and sat right away. Our server came by and gave us waters and dropped off the pho add-ins (bean sprouts, Thai basil, etc) assuming we were getting pho. I wanted to come here for the Bo Kho which I didn't see at many of the other Viet restaurants. You get the option of getting noodles in it or bread. I opted for the bread. My mom asked for her soup to be made with chicken broth which was nice that she had that option (instead of beef broth) and she also asked to have her bean sprouts cooked beforehand. Which they also accommodated. We also started with egg rolls. It came with many things to eat it with and dipping sauce. The shell was nice and crispy. Very good. My bo Kho (spicy beef stew) came. It had lots of big chunks of beef. And was a good level of spicy. The bread wasn't that great. I was hoping for a proper baguette versus a bread loaf they use to make banh mi. We enjoyed our food. Yum! The hubs is under the weather so naturally pho is the immediate and only food choice for a head cold. I ordered to go and this was quite possibly the best packed pho to go ever. We didn't love the use of styrofoam but the noodles were protected from the veggies, from the herbs. He opted for shredded chicken in beef broth and I went for the veggies and tofu in veggie broth. His broth was delicious and one of the best traditional pho broths we have had in Denver. My tofu came fried which I love because normally that's a special request but shouldn't be because it's the best way to eat tofu in pho. My broth was outstanding and dare I say we both liked it a touch more than the beef. It was nice and spicy and went beautifully with the veggies and tofu. This used to be our favorite and popular spot to go to every time we had a fixing for pho. However that has since changed. One time when I was there, I ordered the extra large because I like to take home my leftovers. However, my waiter probably saw the size of my person and figured I didn't need that much and downsized my portion. I've ordered an extra large before and I know the amount you're supposed to get. So I was disappointed with my reduced portion. The dish itself was pretty tasty. It's a toss up sometimes because one time the soup was bland and off. I enjoyed the soup quite a lot, and it was clear and a lot cleaner than most places I've gotten used to. Broth usually makes or breaks my opinion of a bowl of pho and this place passed my test. The amount of onions, limes and basil provided. The egg rolls were alright, not as crispy as I'm accustomed to but the filling was still delicious. Oh Pho. How I love thee. After moving to California (Central Coast) five years ago I thought there would be pho on every corner. Why not it's that much closer to the ports for supplies, etc. Nope. Not sure it has not gotten better but cemented it's way into "the book." Why, you ask? First the ambiance or feel is just right. Today there was a packed room of people all enjoying the mighty food with TVs, lights, and lots of things going on but were not taking away from the mood. Plus there was Xmas music playing which is a plus, as it's banned in other states. The food, ie. Pho, is where is starts and ends. They have the traditions s/m/l bowls where you can then pick your ingredients. I love the brisket and raw steak so that was my choice today. The broth is heavenly and just by itself is enough. Another, amazing and basic component is the noodles themselves. You would think pretty easy to get right?! Nope. Most places in my local area (in CA) try to use different noodles. No. Don't do that. Stick with the champion basic pho noodles (period). Pro tip: be sure to try the soup first then add the amazing concoction of brown sauce and sriracha. Blend to your spice level of comfort. My friend TT went to college in Boulder Colorado and she recommended me to try this place out. She's Vietnamese from Vietnam so she knows good Pho and Bun Bo Hue restaurants. I definitely trust her recommendations when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine. This was my first stop when I arrive in Denver since she said so many good things about this place. My first meal was going to be Bun Bo Hue. My mind was already made up my before landing in Denver. I arrived by Uber in their private lot. They are a freestanding restaurant on Federal. Building looks newer and the restaurant is very clean inside. Service wasn't great and they were talking about me in Vietnamese with each other (3.5 stars overall here due to this fact). The Bun Bo Hue was very different from what I'm used to but it was still pretty good. There were a lot of veggies and the portion was filling. They took our money, but were too busy to make or give us food. We ordered online. The site said the food would be ready in an hour (woof!). The parking lot was full when we got there. I dropped my spouse off and circled for ~30 minutes. During that time, not a single employee would talk to him or help him. I picked him back up, we parked in the lot of the market next door. Went back in, still no food. After 60+ minutes, went back home hungry and pissed. Left several messages and emailed asking for a refund.
